Since firmware update 7.5.2, erratic powering down.

Since I updated my firmware from 7.3.2 to 7.5.2 two weeks ago, I have been experiencing poor performance. The reason I was still on 7.3.2 was because 7.4.2 gave me erratic connections, and thus I rolled my firmware back to 7.3.2. I tried doing the same this time, but the Airport Utility is not offering anything but 7.5.2, and the 7.3.2 firmware was deleted from my system when 7.5.2 was installed. The Airport Utility is refusing to offer 7.4.2 or the 7.3.2 firmware.
My setup:
I do not have special settings like a VPN or things like that. I have the Airport Extreme connected to my cable modem, and the Airport Express on the other side of the house. The Airport Extreme creates a network, and the Airport Express extends that network. The network is using a WPA2 password. Channel 7 is being used because that's best for my area.
My problems:
- Random disconnects, which start at the Airport Extreme and spread to the Airport Express.
- The Airport Express has been shutting down on its own randomly, must unplug and replug several times in order for it to come back on.
- This morning, my Airport Extreme started showing the same behavior.
I have owned these devices for going on 3 years. This is a new problem, because I never had problems before. I was ready to buy another Airport Express because I thought it had started dying; but when my Airport Extreme started showing the same behaviors this morning I was alarmed. It has happened twice since this morning.
Please help! Or provide any information you know about this.

Have you tried to download via...select Airport Utility in the Finder>click on "Airport Utility"> on the drop down menu click on "Check for updates" as you hold down the Option key. Down load the version you want...then upload and install using Manual Setup>click on "Version", third line from top. Good Luck, RJB
BTW: I'm running Airport Utility, 5.5.2

  • Seagate external drive not recognized since firmware update

I've looked through the posts here and haven't found this issue addressed specifically, so here goes. Any help will be appreciated.
I ran the firmware update on my MacBook Pro the other day, and everything has been normal since, except when I went to switch on my Seagate external HD - which I use as a backup drive - this morning. The mac doesn't see it at all.
Brought the drive into the office this morning and the iMac here, which hasn't been updated in at least 6 months, sees the Seagate right away.
I haven't upgraded to Leopard, though I have it, becuase I'm in the middle of a project and don't want any trouble with ProTools. In fact, I hadn't been making any updates at all, but in a moment of weakness ran the firmware update!
    Thanks in advance.

  • AirPort Utility Opens By Itself EVERYDAY Since Firmware Update

Ever since the AirPort Express firmware update a few days ago, the AirPort Utility opens everyday by itself, usually in the AM and under no specific set of circumstances. It always goes to the same info regarding sharing music and only gives me the option to continue to set up the AirPort automatically. When I quit and then check the settings manually, the music settings seem to be set up just fine.
Anybody else have this problem? Doesn't seem like the firmware update could affect the software on the Mac, but I have no other explanation.

In Airport Utility, check the preference menu item. There is a checkbox to monitor airport devices. If a device reports a problem, Airport Utility will launch automatically. Maybe somehow this option is turned on??

  • My ipod nano 6th gen doesn't appear anymore in iTunes since firmware update.

My IPod nano was upgraded to the firmware update to 1.2.
I've lost all my music on it during the firmware upgrade (not sure this is normal).
I can't see it anymore in ITunes.  I got some windows blue screen when trying to solve the problem.
I've tried to uninstall-reinstall all Apple products on my windows 7 (following the apple support, with bonjour, quicktime, ...).
I've also tried to connect it on 2 other fresh windows machines, but it doesn't appear either ...
I've tried with other software but impossible to use because the first libray must be created with iTunes.
The iPod seems normal and the screen is reactive ... but I can't use it without any music on it.
I've reset my ipod with no luck. Tried in disk mode also, .... what can I do more ?
I cannot restore it because it's not visible in iTunes.
Many thanks for your help !

  • I can't wake up my MacBook without power cord since firmware update

Even though my battery charges fine and it's on 99% full
it won't wake up without a power cord.
when I walk away from the computer and close the lid, when I open it again and hit the space bar nothing happens. I have to hit the power up button and still nothing happens. then I plug in the cord and I get the grayed out screen and see the energy coming back with the white stripes loading across the screen.
Now I just pulled out the cord with it on and sat there for 1 minute to see what happened. The computer shut down! My MacBook effectively can't get the energy off my battery. What is going on??
This just started 2 days ago right after it asked me to load new firmware. I don't even know why I needed to update the firm ware but all I know now is my Macbook can't live without the power cord now and I was fine before. HOW DO I UNINSTALL that FIRMWARE UPDATE?? or HOW do I fix this??
    please help me

My macbook is presenting the same problem after firmware update. Resetting the smc didn't work, as well as resetting the pram and repairing permissions in safe boot mode. Help, please... my mac suddently turned to be a PC.... simply not working!!!!
I tried to clean the battery plate, as well, but i am able to wake my mac up only with power cord plugged in... after restarting the computer, by pressing the power key for 10 seconds, the battery works pretty good...

  • Camera not working since recent update of itunes in November-shuts down pho

Everytime I try to use my camera it either shuts down my phone or says I don't have enough room for pictures (which I know I do-because I have had many more-and I have deleted thirty pictures). Also my phone one day just would not turn on for a while after the update. Help!! I use the camera all the time and this is frustrating. any ideas? The screen looks funny after the I click camera and then it shuts down. I tried powering down and reseting.

Did you try a real reboot, not just turning off and on (totally different things)
    A reset/reboot is:
    Go to Home Screen
    Press and Hold Home Button
Keep holding and press and hold Lock Button
    Keep holding Both
You will see Slide to Turn Off (Don't let go to slide, just keep holding)
The phone will turn off (in time, but screen will look like it has some white lines)
    Keep Holding
When you see the Apple Logo, you can let go.
Turning off via the Slide to Turn off while good and fine to turn off, is more like the Sleep Mode on a computer. Thus any locked up issues in memory remain when you turn back on. A reboot as described is like doing a real Turn off and Turn On on a computer.

Anyone experience the same result after installing MacBook Air Flash Storage Firmware Update 1.1? Why did my macbook shut down?

    Reset SMC.     http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
    Choose the method for:

  • Loss of Speed since Firmware update this morning.

    Hi
As confirmed in the .204 update thread since this morning I have lost over 5mb of downstream. Prior to the update I was syncing at between 39.02 and 38.82 Mbps downstream and around 9.6 Mbps upstream since been installed over two weeks ago. Now I,m syncing at 34.18 Mbps downstream and a slightly less upstream of 9.2 Mbps. As you can see in my stats below my noise and signal attenuation for upstream seem to be much higher than my downstream. I,m sure before the update the upstream was at 0. Have just read on another thread that this is not normal and should be lower than the downstream and is indicative of a high resistance joint fault. Could this be the case, or is this just DLM kicking in due to the update reboot and everything might go back to normal after a couple of days. The only other change that has happened since yesterday is I installed a BT 8500 trio phone system and have read the Call Guardian feature can interfere with infinity. Have disconnected that but the download still seems the same. Have also tried a quiet line test and it appears to be quiet with no crackling, only a very very feint hiss sound which I assume is the phone as the listening volume is set at max.

  • ITunes cutting out via Airplay since firmware update

Today after updating the firmware for my airport express my music now cuts out playing from my macbook pro.
I've tried every comination of 5 ghz network and 2.4 ghz network and it cuts out every ten seconds or so.
This is maddening. My music system is hosed because of an "update" by Apple.

Same problem as yours but I've found a way to downgrade the Airport firmware on OSX Mountain Lion. You need to install the Airport Utility 5.6 on wichever OSX version you are (http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1482). Mountain Lion will refuse to install the package. To bypass this, you have to use the shareware Pacifist (http://www.charlessoft.com/) wich will enable the installation of the package.
From Airport Utility 5.6, select "manual configuration" / then click on the word "version" / and finally choose the firmware version 7.6.1 or whichever other previous version you wish. And voilà!
Does not resolve the 7.6.3 issue but at least, it permit to listen to audio without  constants cut out. Just have to wait for another upgrade from Apple. But for my part, I'll stay away from them ;-)

  • 10.6.7 Update wouldn't complete, I powered down,now I'm stuck

This pertains to my wife's Mac Mini's update last night. It hung at the end of the installation. I really had no choice but to power down I think. When tried to power up,, the boot starts,,and then about 10 seconds later the power cuts out.Tried that many times. I tried SafeMode with SL disc, pressed "C", and menu came up, and by accident started a fresh install instead of doing a Restore from Time Machine backup. I powered off one minute into this fresh install, after I realized this isn't what I wanted. So, should I, or can I start over by doing SafeMode, and choosing restore from TM backup,, or should I do a fresh install (which I guess would be 10.6.0), then use my TM backup to Restore (last time I did the backup it had 10.6.6)

Personally, since it appears you're not having any hardware issues, I would boot from the OSX DVD (insert DVD, restart and hold down C after you hear the startup tone); then go into Disk Utilities, erase the HDD and perform a TimeMachine restore back to your 10.6.6 install.
From personal experience, after the restore is completed, you may not be able to boot to your desktop. If you see the grey screen with the Apple logo and the progress indicator continually spinning, you will need to reboot with your OSX DVD, reinstall OSX and reapply the 10.6.6 combo update. You should then get to your desktop. All your restored apps and data will not be affected. After you do this, run the Repair Permissions. You should also check all your apps to be sure they are working OK. I had to reinstall one of my apps.
    Good luck!

  • UC320W stuck in firmware update

I'm working with a new client that has an existing UC320W. When I first attempted to login, I learned about the incompatability of their current firmware with newer versions of Flash. I downgraded my laptop's Flash and was able to login. I was immediately prompted to update the firmware.
The system told me it was a two part process. The first part seems to have run fine, but when the second part of the upgrade begins it shows the attached screen.
This screen continues after "downloading" for about 16 hours. It also puts out phones in an unusable state.
Is there a way I can escape from the "automated" process and update the firmware manually with a downloaded copy of the fw file? I attempted to reboot the router, but as soon as I logged back in it immediately returned me to this process.
I made the mistake of launching this process without a backup. Any advice you can offer is greatly appreciated.

I downloaded the firmware update to my laptop, and powered off and on the router. On logging into the router, I glimpsed a message in the top right corner, something to the effect of "Update from my computer." I selected this and was able to successfully update the router. Problem is resolved.

  • Firmware update always asks me to reboot to install it.

Hi, my gf's father finally bought a new MacBook Pro. Tonight we've installed the updates included the firmware update 1.2.
The update (only few kb), tells me I just need to close all the applications, reboot the MBP and wait until Mac installs the update.
Everything looks fine, but when I log in, Mac tells me there is a software to update: it's always the same firmware. And always tells me to close all the applicantions, reboot and so on... (-.-)
We've tried again, and again and again... Always the same thing..
    What else could we do?

You'll want to read over the instructions that come with the firmware update a few times, since firmware updates are not part of the operating system and do not install like normal updates. Most firmware updates are installed by running the installer, shutting down the computer, and then starting it up and holding down the power button until you hear a long tone (not the normal startup tone). Release the button, and the update should begin running automatically.
Because not all firmware updates are installed the same way, be sure to follow the instructions that come with the update in preference over the above instructions.

  • EFI Firmware Update 1.2. won't install

I can't find exactly my problem but some threads are close. I keep getting software updates for EFI Firmware Update 1.2.
I shut down, then startup holding on-button until it flashes, release, buzz buzz, chime, then very briefly the apple logo and status bar, then gone, buzz buzz, chime and restart. After everything loads, there is the update window with install instructions, telling me to repeat if I see them, to no avail (tried several times over several weeks). My HD appears to be correctly partitioned, with this boot ROM: IM51.0090.B03 which would seem to indicate the update has not happened. I have unplugged all my peripherals (printer, zip drive) but not DSL modem.
    any ideas?
    thanks in advance
    craig

I would delete the firmware updater that is in your Utilities folder and check your account settings(System Preferences/Accounts/Login Items) to see if it has been added to your login items. If so then remove. Re-run your software update and see if the Firmware update shows up again. If so then download and try again. According to Apple your BootROM should be IM51.0090.B09 after the update.

  • WiFi Problems - TC to MP, since recent firmware update

    Hello,
i found some threads about other people having trouble here, but nothing seemed to fit my situation.
I have 2 Macs - a Mac Pro (Early 2008) and a MacBook (Late 2008). And a Time Capsule, which i purchased sometime between the Macs. Up to now, everything worked perfect, both machines were connected via WiFi to the TC. But since the recent firmware update, the MacBook works fine with the TC, absolutely no problems, but the Mac Pro (a bit longer distance) doesn't work any longer.
This started on Friday (i don't use the MP daily), it was impossible to get a WiFi connection, tried re-entering connection data and so - no success.
On Saturday, i used the cable to check the TC configuration, everything worked fine, and after fiddling around with the setup, i finally got WiFi working again.
Sunday - MP was off all the day.
Today - Just powered it up, no WiFi. When i disable and re-enable AirPort, it gets a connection for a second or 2, but then drops it. If i get a connection, i have a strong signal (all bars black), so signal quality isn't an issue. And before the update, everything worked fine, the only change is the firmware update last week.
The MacBook doesn't have any issues, no matter, where it is located. I'm currently writing this post on it while syncing some home directory stuff with the MP (MB connected via WiFi, MP connected via cable).
So what is this new problem? After damaging USB to complete unusability, Apple now continues with the WLAN features? What comes next? When will all this be fixed?
Meanwhile, i think it was not the best idea to switch to Apple about a year ago. The continous quality drops get painful meanwhile. I wonder when my iPhone gets unusable (which also works fine with the TC, by the way
    ...Michael

    Hi again,
okay. It really was the 7.4.1 firmware. This morning, i reverted to 7.3.2, did a full reset, reconfigured everything, and now my network works fine as it did before.
It seems to be important to reconfigure the TC, as just downgrading the firmware didn't really help, while full reconfig with 7.4.1 also doesn't help.
I now turned off the automatic search for new versions on the TC. I will be informed by the AP Express, which has no problems with 7.4.1 yet.
Hope, Apple re-introduces quality control soon and doesn't make the customers be the beta-testers.
