Since I updated to maverick my computer is running so slow and office pro is crashing

I updated and my computer is just running in circles. Everything seems to take forever. My laptop is 2 years old and I run office pro for my company.
It's a nightmare trying to set up the calendar, get emails etc. What do I need to do? My work is taking twice as long. Can I get rid of Maverick? It was fine before. It still says I'm operating
OS X 10.9.2 (13C64) but I did the update. Maybe I'm somewhere between

Back up your documents and everything else important to you, not that there is any reason to believe your hard disk may be failing, but the symptoms you describe may presage an impending disk failure, and you should have backups anyway.
To help determine the possible causes of this behaviour read the following. None of what follows is intended to fix anything, but it will provide the additional information required to advance troubleshooting:
Boot OS X Recovery by holding ⌘ and r (two fingers) while you start your Mac. At the Mac OS X Utilities screen, select Disk Utility. Select your startup volume (usually named "Macintosh HD") and click the Repair Disk button. Describe any errors it reports in red. If Disk Utility reports "The volume Macintosh HD appears to be OK" in green then you can be reasonably (though not completely) assured your hard disk is in good working order.
When it finishes restart your Mac and test again for operation. If it's still not behaving as you expect it should, please post the results of EtreCheck in accordance with the following instructions:
Apple Support Communities contributor etresoft wrote a very useful app to quickly gather certain system information that may help point to a cause of this problem. Read about it here. It contains a link to download EtreCheck. Don't download it from anywhere else (such as may be found by following the results of an Internet search).
Click Open - etresoft contributes to this forum frequently and can be considered a trustworthy developer.
It will take a moment to run as it collects its data.
Copy and paste its output in a reply.
Do not be concerned about anything that says "Problem" or “failed” or anything else that may appear in red.
EtreCheck was designed to remove any personal information (such as your computer's name and serial numbers) but if you see anything that looks like an email address or any other personal information that should not be divulged to others, please delete or obscure that information when you post the reply.
When you are finished with EtreCheck, quit the program. It occupies very little space, and you can keep it or drag it to the Trash as you wish.
After completing the above please determine if the problems also occur in "Safe Mode":
Safe Mode or "Safe Boot" is a troubleshooting mode that bypasses all third party system extensions and loads only required system components. Read about it: Starting up in Safe Mode
You must disable FileVault before you can start your Mac in Safe Mode.
Starting your Mac in Safe Mode will take longer than usual, graphics will not render smoothly, audio is disabled on some Macs, and some programs (iTunes for example) may not work at all.
Merely starting your Mac in Safe Mode is not intended to resolve the problem, it's to observe its performance without certain additional components.
To end Safe Mode restart your Mac normally. Shutdown will take longer as well.
System performance problems for reasons that cannot be isolated to any other cause justify an  SMC reset. Be sure to read the procedure carefully and follow all the steps exactly as written, even if they seem inapplicable or trivial.

  • HT1338 Is there a Mac System Clean-up? My computer is running very slow and freeze all the times

I don't know why my computer is running very slow and keeps freezing all the times.  It would take at least 2-3 min to load up after the not using it for 5 min.  For instance when I type my paper or doing anything on the computer and leave for a fews min after come back it would not start and the icon keeps on spinning.
    Thanks

Pretty much all "clean-up" utilities will just make things worse.
You need to determine what it is that is causing the problem.
How much RAM do you have?
For the following, report what you get when the system is running slow and beachballing.
Open Activity Monitor (Utilities folder) and click on System Memory tab at the bottom of the screen. What does it say for Page Outs?
Also, at the top of the window, select All Processes. Click on the %CPU header until the arrow points down. Anything pop up at the top of the list that is using a very high percentage of CPU?
What you describe can be caused by incompatible third-party software. Boot into Safe mode and see if the problems still exist. Safe mode will be a little slower than normal, but you shouldn't see the system freeze up.

Two days ago I installed Mavericks to my MacBook Pro.  The computer is very, very slow. I did not have that problem before.  Also as I change between windows the whole screen is blurred with horizontal lines.  Once safari, email or another app opens up it take a few minutes before I can actually use it.  The cursor pauses like crazy.  Quite frustrating. I checked the captibality before downloading and it met all the requirements.  Help please!!

If that was Crucial, it's OK. Your Mac can address a maximum of 6 GB.
Don't be surprised at all if you install 6 GB and your Mac suddenly appears to use all 6 GB, or nearly so. Your above screenshot shows only 33 MB "compressed" and no swap used, so it is still well within comfortable limits for the programs you were running at the time.
Apple's presentation regarding this new Mavericks feature implied that it is capable of achieving an effective increase of as much as 50% over actual installed RAM. In other words, it is theoretically possible that your existing 4 GB will perform as if it were actually 6 GB. This is one reason that upgrading to Mavericks results in new life for "old" Macs, but the comment applies to any more resource-limited Mac.
Additional memory is almost always beneficial, just make sure to purchase it from a vendor known to supply memory that meets Apple's stringent specifications. Crucial and OWC / MacSales are the only two that I have used and can personally recommend.

  • TS3795 Ever since I Upgraded to Maverick my MAC has been very slow which is very annoying.  Right now I am not home. So is there a number I can call so someone can help me with this issue?

Is there a telephone number I can call after 7:00 p.m.?  I'm not at home and I need to call Support to help me speed up my MAC.  Ever since I upgraded to the Maverick my computer has been very slow and it's very annoying.

you can call AppleCare.  In the US, the are open until 9PM EST.  Not free though if you do not have applecare: http://support.apple.com/kb/he57

  • Computer running super slow and fan is constantly on

Hello, I am really hoping someone can help me. My computer is running incredibly slow, and the fan is constantly on high as soon as I turn it on. I have tried the SMC reset as I have read in other forums, but it has been an hour now and that has not seemed to work. Is there anything else I can try?

    Pre-Mavericks
Open Activity Monitor in the Utilities folder.  Select All Processes from the Processes dropdown menu.  Click twice on the CPU% column header to display in descending order.  If you find a process using a large amount of CPU time (>=70,) then select the process and click on the Quit icon in the toolbar.  Click on the Force Quit button to kill the process.  See if that helps.  Be sure to note the name of the runaway process so you can track down the cause of the problem.
    Mavericks and later
Open Activity Monitor in the Utilities folder.  Select All Processes from the View menu.  Click on the CPU tab in the toolbar.

  • Since updating my Mac Book Pro from Mountain Lion to Maverick the computer is running slowly. Its slow to open and slow to download

Hi since updating my Mac Book Pro from Mountain Lion to Maverick the computer is running slow

When you have the problem, note the exact time: hour, minute, second.
If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Each message in the log begins with the date and time when it was entered. Scroll back to the time you noted above. Select the messages entered from then until the end of the episode, or until they start to repeat, whichever comes first. Copy the messages to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of it useless for solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough. It is never necessary or helpful to post more than about 100 lines. "The more, the better" is not the rule here.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.

  • Since last update on Mavericks, the picture attachement to a movie in iTunes no longer works. Any idea ?

Since last update on Mavericks, the picture attachement to a movie in iTunes no longer works. Any idea ?
Picture added is not displayed in the finder ; when transfering the movie to an Ipad, it is not displayed either.
    iMac 27', Mavericks 10.9 + iTunes 11.1.2

Working here just fine. Try reinstalling:
Reinstalling Mavericks, Lion/Mountain Lion Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

My 13-inch, Mid 2012 MacBook Pro has randomly restarted since i updated to Mavericks. After 15 times it seemed to locate the problem - it had found a program that i never installed (Tuxler) that caused it to crash. The computer removed the files (that i could not locate). Boot into safe mode (restart holding down SHIFT key). If no KP, then uninstall and reinstall these one at a time. If KP, then most likely hardware related. Run the Apple Hardware Test suite, extended tests at least twice, followed by Rember.  See

  • External Hard Drive (Samsung) not recognised since I updated to Mavericks

    Hi,
Since I updated to Mavericks I can't see my external Samsung HD when I plug it in. It's lit up and my ports are working fine. I can however see that it is listed under 'Disk Utility' -  butwhat do I need to do so that I can use it again?
    Any advice much appreciated.
On Disk Utility it says I have options of either Repair or Verify Disk - is that what I need to do? Sorry - tech noob here.
    Thanks

Yes, first Verify and then Repair.
    Ciao.

  • Microsoft Outlook doesn't work properly since I updated to Mavericks?!

Hello.. so yeah ever since I updated to Mavericks, Outlook from Microsoft Office 2011 doesn's work properly. It won't pop up with a window to either reply, forward or write a new e-mail and it gets annoying because I need it for work. So it's totally useless. I don't want to be deleting and installing MO again because my friend did it for me and I don't know all the registration details to prove it's legit or something and I don't want stuff deleted. Sooo.... can anyone help? I don't know how to get it to work, so frustrating!

What Apple wants from his customers?
    1) I've paid my iPhone 4S 900 euros;
    2) I'm used to buy music and apps from iTunes store;
    3) my iCloud space costs 32 euros per year
and, like me, millions of customers around the world!
and Apple does not allow me (and many others) to use the internet traffic for which I (we) pay my (our) provider, that's not among those that directly sell iPhone??? Is this your idea of a really unblocked device as you falsely declsre from the pages of Apple online store ?!? Shame on you!
If I had know that the 7.1 led to this I'd never updated my iPhone. No one (Apple and the sites that live because of her) told about this issue in their enthusiastic comments on the new, updated version, of iOS. Shame on you!
This would claim a class action against such a behaviour!
    I'm disgusted
    thank you

  • Since I upgraded to Maverick when computer sleeps it will not wake up but must be restarted?  Also password to icloud is never saved?

Since I upgraded to Maverick when computer sleeps it will not wake up but must be restarted?  Also password to icloud is never saved?

I read someone said you can tap on "other" when selecting which wifi you connect to and then entering the exact wifi name of the network you wish to join and the password and then joining that network allowed the password to be saved.  Also with iOS 6 the minimum length of the password needs to be 8 characters.  Maybe you password on your router is less than 8 characters long

  • I can't get into iPhoto or iMovie since I update to Mavericks and can't update Them either. How can I get updated so I can get in to IPhoto?

I can't get into iPhoto or iMovie since I update to Mavericks and can"t update IPhoto and IMovie either. A message pop up stating that under this ID I didn't buy it or purchas was canccelled. What is that?

Please take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried until the problem is resolved.
    Step 1
Follow the directions in this support article.
    Step 2
Associate your Apple ID with your user account. Then sign in to the App Store with the same ID.
    Step 3

Right-click or control-click the line and select

from the menu bar, paste into the box that opens (command-V). You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
