SINCE I UPDATED TO YOSEMITE 10.10.1

These are my laptop specs: MACBook Pro Retina 13 (Late 2013), 2.4 GHz Intel Corei5 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3.
Since I updated to OS Yosemite 10.10.1 Safari turned out to be slow in downloading data (my fellows' PC's are faster over the same network) and for some sites (e.g. LinkedIn or other platforms) it takes forever to load text and images.
I was pretty happy switching from a PC to a Mac...but now (about 6 months since the change and with a brand-new laptop) it seems to me that I fell again in the PC's nightmare...

What kind of extensions are you running under Safari?
Do you have other processes going on in addition to Safari?
Also, Safari is not the only browser in town.
Have you tried some other browsers as a comparison?

  • I keep gettin sign in prompts for iCloud since I updated to Yosemite

I keep getting sign in prompts for iCloud since I updated to Yosemite.  I repeatedly get them for Face Time and iMessage also. Haven't found any way to stop them.  I click cancel on every one and then they show up again about 5 seconds later. I finally have been simply putting the window at the bottom of the screen.  What can I do to stop these password sign in request windows?

I'd love a solution to this, as well

You download the update from the App Store using the Apple ID that was used to purchase it.
You should read up about the newer versions before you update as the application has changed substantially since then.
    You can start here

Ever since I updated to Yosemite my mac book pro keeps asking for Apple Id and password but will not accept them.  What can I do?

Try the advice here. I had the same problem and it worked for me.
You have to delete the "SC Info" folder from /Users/Shared. You will have to use Terminal to enable you to see this folder first. Make sure iTunes is not running when you delete the "SC Info" folder
There is an article from Apple on this here. The "SC Info" folder contains iTunes authorization information.
I did this two weeks ago and iTunes accepted by login. I haven't been asked for my AppleID or password since.

Since the update to Yosemite the MacBook has slowed down appreciably. Safari for example takes upwards of 30 seconds to load. How can I speed things up?

    Hi ..
Not enough free storage space can slow your Mac down.
Click your Apple menu icon top left in your screen. From the drop down menu click About This Mac > More Info > Storage. Make sure there's at least 15% free disk space.
Freeing space on your Mac OS X startup disk
OS X Tips Where did my Disk Space go?
Check to see if the startup disk needs repairing.
Launch Disk Utility located in HD > Applications > Utillities
Select the startup disk on the left then select the First Aid tab.
Click:  Verify Disk (not Verify Disk Permissions)
If Disk Utility reports errors, restart your Mac while holding down the Command + R keys. From there you should be able to access the built in utilities in OS X Recovery to repair the startup disk.
Make sure to back up all important data first before using OS X Recovery.
Anti virus software, as well as third party Mac cleaning utilities such as MacKeeper  and CleanMyMac can also slow your Mac down.
    For Safari.
Open a Finder window. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy paste the following
    ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/Cache.db
Click Go then move the Cache.db file to the Trash.
Relaunch Safari to test. if that doesn't help, troubleshoot Safari extensions.
From the Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Extensions tab. Turn that OFF, quit and relaunch Safari to test.
If that helped, turn one extension on then quit and relaunch Safari to test until you find the incompatible extension then click uninstall.

  • Shortcuts do not work anymore in Safari and Maps since I updated to Yosemite

Since I upgraded to Yosemite, both Safari 8.0 and Maps 2.0 do not respond to any shortcuts, like "cmd q" to quit or "cmd c" to copy. I have to do everything manually which is quite frustrating, as it slows my workflow down. I can only use the shortcuts if I click on the bar at the top of the window (Safari   File   Edit   View etc.).
I bought my Mac 6 months ago and so don't think i'ts because of the hardware .__. I only have the problem with Safari and Maps.
    Can someone help me please?

I would appreciate any advice. Thanks!

    Howdy peze,
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like there’s an issue with keyboard shortcuts in one specific app, Safari, since upgrading to OS X Yosemite. Take a look at the article linked below which describes a similar issue and walks you through the process of identifying conflicting keyboard shortcuts.

  • HT204017 Issues downloading and updating since the update of Yosemite v10.10

Hello I'm hoping someone can help me since downloading the new OS update i haven't been able to update or download through the app store. i can however download through my browser but not the app store. i first noticed when an update came up for iPhoto. I pressed to update then it sat at zero kb and stopped me using the app altogether. i tried deleting the app and redownloading but still nothing. i tried other apps from the app store and still no joy. they just sit at zero kb and do nothing. Someone please help! I contacted online support and they told me to call AppleCare Technical Support Team who was supposed to be open 24/7 and when i called the offices was shut?!?

    Hi,
Just want to share what has worked for me. First of all get a hard drive and do a back up of your computer to save photos documents etc just in case! use the app time machine to do this... you may need to format the hard drive like i did (mine was fat32) so that you can use it for the back up. Then go to disk utility click on macintosh then click on repair disk permissions. once done eject from your computer the hard drive then re insert. Restart your computer and upon starting hold command and R. Then click on reinstall OS (you will need internet for this) follow the prompts etc (very simple)... it will download and reinstall the OS. Once done log in to your computer and test out your issues.
Mine actually failed the first time reinstalling the OS, which when restarted wouldn't do a thing because the OS was gone :O so i restarted the computer held command and R and did the same steps again to have success. Now everything is back to normal and i have stopped cursing apple and back to loving!
Hope this helps for anyone who reads it. Advisable to do the back up first just in case.
