Since I upgraded to IOS5, my Smart Playlists are in a random order. Since I use it for listening to Talking Books this makes it useless. How can I control the order of a Smart Playlist?

It may be best to recreate the folder and the smart playlists from scratch.

In order to update the order of items in your playlists on the iPod Nano, you have to update them on the computer, and then sync the updated playlists to your device.

To set iTunes to update iPod nano automatically with selected playlists:
Open iTunes and select iPod nano in the Source list. Click the Options button and click Music.
Select “Automatically update selected playlists only.” Select the playlists you want.

Never mind, finally figured it out. All the advice says to click on the left-most column, but it's actually the second column from the left (the first one, in mky version of iTunes, is the album list.)

No I did not make a copy of my address book.
Some information was moved over, many did not.
I do not see a pattern.
I think all the info is still on the hard drive, I just don't know how to recover it.

I have a question about smart playlists.
I have a smart playlist where all songs rated 5 stars are ordered in descending order, meaning the latest additions first. That works well in iTunes and I can rearrange the songs there without a problem.
But when I start the iPod on my iPhone the order of songs in this playlist is always the same. In my case the latest songs are always put last no matter how I sort the songs in iTunes. I tried to delete and create a new smart playlist but the result is always the same.
Is there a solution?

How/Can I Change the Order of a Playlist

I purchased a Greatest Hits album from iTunes and then 4 more extra songs from the same band. I then created a New Titled playlist from the library so I could burn a CD of these purchased songs, but one of the extra purchased songs " insists" on being in the Number One (1) location in the list of songs, the 3 others went to the bottom of the greatest hits playlist as I want. Dragging and Dropping, etc. doesn't seem to work, is there another way ?

What happens if you create a new test playlist and drag the tracks to it one-by-one in the order that you want them?
I myself have not run up against a case of not being able to manually reorder tracks in a playlist as long as shuffle was off the the first column was clicked on.

Thanks. That answers my question. It's jut not obvious that clicking at the header of the first column will restore the established sequence. Even if the listing is re-sorted by artist name or album title, the left column still lists as 1, 2, 3....25 instead of 18, 12, 5, 3... or whatever the different sorting has done to your desired track sequence. The behavior of the numbers in the column makes it look more like a simple track count. It would be nice if there was a "track count" column and a "play order" column whereby if you click on Copy To Play Order off the right click, the "play order" is renumbered to match the "track count" column according to however you currently have the tracks listed. Anyhow, question answered. Many thanks!

If you want to start with odd numbering on the left, you have to disable shuffling for that spread, but in all honesty, you really DON'T WANT your pages numbered this way for western European languages. We expect page 1 to be a right hand page, and for that to be the real beginning of the book. The inside cover and other front matter either would go numberless or use another system, such as small Roman numerals (and odds would still be on the right).
Why not add a blank page inside the cover, then start a new section and put the 1 where it really belongs?

Hi ed2345! Thanks for the precise and clear directions! Regrettably, they didn't work for me. Sequence:
1. I clicked at the top of Column 1 (play order).
2. Triangle appeared.
3. I click and drag on a song.
4. A ghost-like image of the text in that row follows my cursor where I try to put the song. I try to put it in the body of the list, then I try to put it at the end of the list. Both times, when I release the button on the mouse . . .
5. . . . the image of the text in that row returns to its initial place.
I'm trying to imagine what could interfere with this operation, but am drawing a blank. More UX fun!
