Unfortunately, I have a very similar problem. Since I upgraded to os 5.1 on my new iPhone 4S the reminders screen will not add new reminders or scroll up and down. What's more strange is the screen will still scroll side to side allowing access to the Completed list, and both the Completed list and Date functions work normally so this must be an upgrades glitch.

In short, I really dislike the software. It does nothing I want it to do and everything I don't want it to do.
What can I do to avoid the requirement of gunking up my laptop with the bloatware that is iTunes? Is there any alternative? And for the courageous who want control in their own hands with Open Source there are Android tablets, phones. And there are other systems - mostly sold in the UK and China - where one can do whatever one has in mind to do if one is clever enough.. It makes me feel very old but the last products mentioned are often used by the school kids in places like China and the UK. . they become really good programmers.
Microsoft products are typically designed for business use where people want some level of control, want efficiency to do what they want to do, and are willing to learn a little bit more to be able to do that. Typically speed, flexibility, and compatibility are more important than games, songs or movies. One wants to download customized information from the internet - articles, journals, newspapers and one wants access to the company data, memos, manuals and a way to post email, photos, some compact videos to a few key people (not the world).
IT people at companies wish to keep things locked down and easier/cheaper to manage so it is always a bit of a struggle to do your own thing. That you are annoyed with the waste of space and lack of control tells me you are either an exec, or will soon be one if you find workarounds. Chances are others are having the same difficulties in your company. Develop a realtionship with the IT people -- if they know you have a need for something they will sometimes help you to get it. So make a little specific list of what you don't like and what gets in your way, and see what they can do for you.
Some really good reviews of available products of most brands, what they will and won't do, can be found through the programs at TWIT.TV. Tech News Today is a good place to jump in... one can get the programs via streaming or podcasts so one has a choice if a TV connection is not convenient or available. http://twit.tv/
My personal pet peeve with the newer products is the "gallery view" where everything is tiles and carousels. Ugh. Dizzying at best. I like a list tucked into a small space, I don't mind using a stylus and I really loved my Axim 5 PDA with the touch screen (now obsolete but dang, it still works if "they" would just upgrade the software to new protocols - LOL). Even Netflix has done away with their wonderful sortable lists and moved over to tiling... Ugh. When I want a movie I want to be able to mine for it fast based on my own criteria, not to have to wade through many screens full of images with little or no info. -
Since I upgraded to the new iOS 7 operating system for my iphone, I can no longer adjust the volume on my alarm. No matter what setting the volume of my phone is my alarm is always full blast. Since I hate being startled awake, what can I do?
Go to your home screen, and then press the volume down or up button. It should say Ringer instead of volume. If it doesn't do that, try going into the clock app and try it there.

I want to register my iPod with iTunes but the registration form keeps asking for a postcode but there is no field to enter it, although there is an arrow showing where the error is but still no field for entry. Any suggestions how to get past this ?
I can not get to iPhone screen, so no way to get to Settings. That is the problem. When I connect phone to iTunes I get screen asking to insert SIN card. On the phone I'm getting Cinfigure screen asking Launguage , Country or Region, Wi-Fi, ( I can connect to my home wi-fi), and last screen "Activating your iPhone". Media is not included in a backup. You should be able to resync them your copy of them on your computer's iTunes. If you haven't got your a copy of them then if they are still in the store, then you can re-download apps via the Purchased tab in the App Store, ibooks via the Purchased tab in the ibookstore in the iBooks app, and (depending upon what country that you are in) potentially music, films and tv shows via the Purchased tab in the iTunes store app.

Do you see the color in Designer, or only Acrobat. If it's only in Acrobat, try changing the menu item Forms >> Highlight Fields. This toggles entry field highlights on and off.

This normally happens when debris builds between the trackball and the rollers on the inside of the mouse.
Turn the mouse upside down and rub the trackball vigorously on a sheet of paper or microfiber cloth to try and free it up.

I have Adobe Reader XI with the package that allows me to send pdfs and convert pdfs to Word. When I open a pdf and try to search the search shows no matches even though the word I am searching for is in the document. Any suggestions how to search?

If I may impose on your generosity one more time, if I understand you correctly if I create a document on Word or WordPerfect, print it and scan it to create a pdf, the search function will not work. But, if I create the pdf document in Word the search function will work. Unfortunately, I am not sure how I create a pdf document in Word other than by printing it and scanning it. Could you please explain.

when you opened the shared library with the newer version of iPhoto (iPhoto '11) you were given a warning that your library would be converted and could not be used by older versions - you clicked ok to go ahead - there is no updo available - either upgrade to iphoto '11 of the MBP or load your backup of the iPhoto '09 library on it - older versiopns of i{Photo can not read newer libraries

It sounds like you may have multiple problems, but none of them are likely to be caused by malware.
First, the internet-related issues may be related to adware or a network compromise. I tend to lean more towards the latter, based on your description of the problem. See:

If investigation shows that this is not a network-specific issue, then it's probably adware. See my Adware Removal Guide for help finding and removing it. Note that you mention AdBlock as if it should have prevented this, but it's important to understand that ad blockers do not protect you against adware in any way. Neither would any kind of anti-virus software, which often doesn't detect adware.
As for the other issues, it sounds like you've got some serious corruption. I would be inclined to say it sounds like a failing drive, except it sounds like you just got it replaced. How did you get all your files back after the new drive was installed?
