Since installing Nuance PDF Converter Professional, PDFs are opened by Nuance instead of Acrobat, which is also installed. I want Acrobat to be the default.

I have been a longtime user of Firefox and Adobe Acrobat (NOT the reader). A few months ago I installed Nuance PDF Converter, and stipulated that Acrobat should be the default when opening PDFs. However, when the PDF is opened under Firefox, Nuance is used. I have disabled and uninstalled the Nuance add-in for Firefox, yet it won't go away. It is still used to open PDFs under Firefox. Is there a way to change this?

Appreciate the reply.  Of course the problem is that if you have Acrobat full 7 or 8 installed, there is no easy way to deploy updates (if users aren't Administrators) that I know of, and that's if updates are still available for that version - of course Adobe would simply say to upgrade, but it's difficult to justify the cost when the product still works.
Sadly Adobe don't seem to make anything like Microsoft's WSUS to aid in detecting where updates are required, and in deploying them so it seems (happy to be pointed somewhere that shows I have the wrong end of the stick) that short of all manner of home-brew batch files or expensive commercial patch deployment software, that there is no simple way to just say "Patch all my Adobe installations".

    ExportPDF is not for forms. In general, converting forms to Word is a really, really bad idea which can even cause legal problems. Work with the form as a PDF. Acrobat (not Reader) can export form data as simple text for example.

  • Will Adobe Export PDF convert a pdf to an editable Pages document for iMAC

    Will Adobe Export PDF convert a pdf document to an editable Pages document for iMAC?

    HI HolySpiritThree,
    ExportPDf will convert the PDF into Docx and doc format. Then you can download that converted file to you desktop. So if you have Word on MAc you can use that to edit the converted PDF file.
    I'm not sure about Pages, if pages can open(supports) .docx or .doc files then you can always use Pages to edit the document. I hope that answer your question.
    Let me know if that helps.

    charmi,
    The following is a general list of things you may try when the issue is not in a specific file (you may have tried/done some of them already); 1) and 2) are the easy ones for temporary strangenesses, and 3) and 4) are specifically aimed at possibly corrupt preferences); 5) is a list in itself, and 6) is the last resort.
    1) Close down Illy and open again;
    2) Restart the computer (you may do that up to 3 times);
    3) Close down Illy and press Ctrl+Alt+Shift/Cmd+Option+Shift during startup (easy but irreversible);
    4) Move the folder (follow the link with that name) with Illy closed (more tedious but also more thorough and reversible);
    5) Look through and try out the relevant among the Other options (follow the link with that name, Item 7) is a list of usual suspects among other applications that may disturb and confuse Illy, Item 15) applies to CC, CS6, and maybe CS5);
    Even more seriously, you may:
    6) Uninstall, run the Cleaner Tool (if you have CS3/CS4/CS5/CS6/CC), and reinstall.

  • Before I update, Firefox latest version must be compatible with Nuance PDF Converter Professional 7.0 When will this happen?

    When Firefox prompts me to upgrade to the latest version, it shows PDF Converter plug-in as not being compatible. This is not acceptable, and therefore I have not upgraded.

    If you use ZoneAlarm Extreme Security then try to disable Virtualization.

  • I use program PDF Converter Professional.When downloading from the net I want to use Adobe Acrobat Reader to open downloaded pdf forms. Adobe Acrobat is my default program but Firefox keeps using PDF Converter. How do I change this?

    Acrobat Reader is the default program for all variants of pdf files, both in Windows 7 and in Firefox.

    So you have a trial version of Acrobat (that is not activated) installed?  If so, uninstall it.
    Do you also have Adobe Reader installed?  If so, you need to open it once and accept the EULA.

  • PDF convert to PDF/A-1b problems

    I would like to convert my existing archive pdf files into PDF/A. I read on the forum that PDF/A-1b is less critical than 1a so I went with that. Using Acrobat Pro 9 and starting from "clean" (generated by Abbyy Finereader 8) pdfs, the conversion (using Preflight Conversion to PDF/A-1b) generally fails with the following errors:
    Preflight profile 'Convert to PDF/A-lb (sRGB)" found the following errors:
    xConvert to PDF/A-lb {1 object)
    xFlatten transparency {high resolution) {1 object)
    xRemove all alternate images {1 object)
           xDiscard hidden layer content and flatten visible layers (1 object)
           xDiscard hidden layer content and flatten visible layers (1 object)
           xRecompress LZW as ZIP (1 object)
           xPDF document is not compliant with PDF/A-1b (2005)
             xAnnotation has no Flag entry (42 matches on 33 pages)
             xAnnotation not set to print (42 matches on 33 pages)
    I have no idea what this is all about. Besides, I thought I was running a conversion, so why doesn't it convert? Is there anything I can do?
    PS. When I save a fresh scan using Finereader 9 set to generate a PDF/A file and I try to verify it with Acrobat Pro 9 (Verify Conformance..) I invariably am told the verification failed.

    I suppose it is more likely that Abbyy got it wrong than that Adobe did not implement the standard as they should have in Acrobat Pro 9? I did some further testing and put together a PDF file on the basis of tifs. I let Acrobat 9 OCR this file and subsequently converted it once to PDF/A-1a and once to PDF/A-1b. Only the last passed the verification by Acrobat; the former failed with a bunch of errors again (see enclosed screen shot). Am I expecting too much when I assume Acrobat can generate proper PDF/A-1a files on the basis of clean tiff files?

  • I want to open my email using firefox, but since installing Google Chrome, all email links are opened with it, and I don't have access to my firefox tool bars to email a page, etc.

    All email are opened by Google Chrome since I installed it. I want to use Firefox with its toolbars for emailing pages, etc., and there seems to be no easy way to email a page using Chrome.
    I tried uninstalling Chrome, but then could not open any email.

  • Web to PDF - Convert to PDF/X-3 (Error: file specifications present)

    I took a simple webpage consisting of two images and some text and used the Adobe Acrobat X Pro function "PDF to Web" to make a pdf of it, which looks perfectly good.
    I need to export it as a PDX/X-3 compliant pdf however in preflight I get the error that "file specifications present." I have no idea what this means of how to fix this. Can anyone help me with this?

    If this helps I tried to "print" the pdf to a file using a pdf/x-3 preset and the log I got returned the following information:

  • I've installed OSX Mountain Lion 10.8.2 and some Apple Apps installed unespectedly close even before they are opened. This affects Mac App Store, Mail and several other apps

    I installed OSX 10.8.2 just yesterday night (12-27-2012) and every time I attempt to open some of the Apple Apps, such as Mac App Store, Notes and Messages, among others, they don't mount at all and a failure message appears on the screen instead. No matter how many times I try to open those apps, they won't open at all and the same message appears again and again. Is there a solution for this or should I reinstall the OSX Mountain Lion in order to solve this issue?

    TOOLS > OPTIONS > GENERAL tab
    Under Start-up at the top of GENERAL, you have an option to type in the url or use the tabs to set your homepage to the current page.
    Go to your chosen site, open OPTIONS and click 'Use current page.'

    Try a reset: Simultaneously hold down the Home and On buttons until the device shuts down. Ignore the off slider if it appears. Once shut down is complete, if it doesn't restart on it own, turn the device back on using the On button. In some cases it also helps to double click the Home button and close all apps BEFORE doing the reset.

  • I'm using Firefox 3.16, and want to download/open a .flv file with Flashplyer plugin 10.2.153.1 which is also installed. How can I ad Flashplayer to the dropdown list of applications so I can select it for .flv file?

    Windows Vista Home Premium SP2, Firefox 3.16, Adobe Flashplayer 10.2.153.1

    Thanks. I was clicking on a .flv file thinkin that I needed to download it from Khan Academy, however, that was not necessary. All I had to do was click on the forward arrow appearing above the download location to actually play the video. I now understand how to play the videos.
    Thanks again.
