Since installing os x and appletv my wireless network changes

my wireless connection worked fine until installed os x and connected my appletv...my orginal setting was configured to linksys....now i can only connect to my network by changing to apple network 3107c. By doing this, I can't connect with my appletv...i use an apple extreme router. Can anyone help me reset my laptop connection to linksys? thks.

So what you have been doing is using your neighbor's internet connection and not your own. That means your neighbor - if they realized what was going on - could have accessed your Apple TV and any computers you have connected to their wireless network if they wanted to.
You need to set up your network properly so that all your computers and your Apple TV connect to your own wireless network currently called "apple network 3107c". You should also implement wireless security on your network - preferably using the WPA or WPA2 protocol and a password.
And finally - you need to try to improve the quality of your own wireless network's signal.

We bought a time capsule, 1TB, then the wifi has a problem since it does not identify the existing wireless network and it says that its need to have an update firmware. The existing firmware is 7.3.1, does it have an newest update firmware existing now? Does APPLE do not provide latest firmware for this item?

How old is that Time Capsule?  The fact that it still have firmware 7.3.1 suggests that it's not the latest model.  The latest firmware available for my two-year-old model is version 7.5.2.  Apple does provide firmware updates.  You just have to let the Time Capsule download and install them.  Use AirPort Utility to do that.
Regarding your Wi-Fi problem, please explain what you mean by "it does not identify the existing wireless network".

  • Since installing Snow Leopard and Lion two weeks ago, my iTunes program opens seemingly at will.  It usually starts playing music, too.  What is causing this?

Since installing Snow Leopard and then Lion on my Intel-based iMac two weeks ago, my iTunes program seems to open at will whenever the computer is on.   It often begins playing music, as well.  What is causing this and how do I make it stop?

There are ways to minimize, mitigate, and help avoid a lot of problems.
    Bootable backups.
Zeroing a drive twice before using, and format it with SL DVD Apple Disk Utility for sure.
Even a clean install should import old apps without having to reauthorize.
If you must do an upgrade, do it from the SL DVD, after repairing the drive and be sure to use the SL version of Alsoft Disk Warrior (4.2).
Wait six months before jumping on a new OS.
10% is still too many. Yes, it is more sensitive to RAM and hard drive errors, doesn't like some controllers; most ext hdd cases; and enough software to make for test-only status. And it only IDs some known incompatible applications, drivers, extensions, etc and does not remove even those always in best manner.
Plus, there are problems with the new Rosetta and the cache files it now uses. So some apps and plug-ins will cause more trouble. Not all are ready. Good reason to hold off for the months it takes.
Other devices act different as far as on/off behavior.
(Migrating from G5s to Mac Pro can cause all kinds of problems, weird behavior, sluggish system, and why anyone that went down that road was strongly recommended to NOT use Migration Assistant for any of their applications, and to ONLY do clean/fresh installs of any apps. If you skipped that day, didn't read the Guide to M.A., or didn't want to do fresh installs then, your system could have been on borrowed time. If you did do clean install of applications, great.
Installing SL can result in a corrupt directory - I think and it "seems" to be happening, but no real proof, just gut feeling and instinct (underlying file system problem? weak sectors that pre-existed waiting to happen?).
Remember all the "there just aren't a lot of 64-bit drivers" for Vista and XP? it's come home to roost.
... my guess is not enough incense and offerings. To hop into TimeMachine and SuperDuper backup images and pull the 1TB for another day (week, month, year).

  • Can I extend both a 2.4Ghz and a 5Ghz wireless network at the same time with a second Timecapsule / Extreme ?

Can I extend both a 2.4Ghz and a 5Ghz wireless network coming from a Timecapsule  with a second Timecapsule / Extreme at the same time?

I am currently extending my 5Ghz network via an Express without any problems, but the Express can only extend either / or. I just want full coverage for both networks in the whole house.
If you can extend 5 GHz now with an AirPort Express and get satisfactory results, then the AirPort Extreme will work to extend both the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands in the same location.
However, your computer is going to connect to the band with the strongest signal, so it may....or may not....connect to 5 GHz given a choice of two signals.

  • CANNOT OPEN OR EDIT PHOTOS SINCE INSTALLING iLIFE 08 and OS 10.5

I have recently installed iLIFE 08 and OS 10.5.1 and I cannot open or edit or use any of the photos in iPhoto. I get a white circle with an exclamation point in the center each time I try open open a photo.
I did back up iPhoto before installing the new software. Should I reinstall from the back up or is there another fix for this problem. Thank you in advance for the help.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. I believe that's an indication of a permissions issue. Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library. Select the option to repair permissions.
If that doesn't fix it download and run BatChmod on the iPhoto Library folder with the settings shown here, putting your administrator login name, long or short, in the owner section and the current group in the group section. You can either type in the path to the folder or just drag the folder into that field.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • How to set up full access and limited access wireless networks to laptops

    Dear Apple,
I just received my Apple 1 TB Time Capsule. Can someone please help me with a network configuration I want to set up?
I have a cable modem, and, three computers: a G4 iMAC (system 10.5.5), an Apple MacBook (system 10.5.5), and, a PC laptop.
The Time Capsule is connect directly to the cable modem.
    Regarding the computers:
    (1) I want the G4 iMAC to connect directly, via an Ethernet cable, to the Time Capsule, WITH FULL ALLOWED ACCESS to the Time Capsule and to the back-up function of the Time Machine feature, and, with allowed access to my HP inkjet printer (class 6110);
    (2) I also want the MacBook laptop to wirelessly link to the Time Capsule via the Airport utility on the laptop, and, WITH FULL ALLOWED ACCESS to the Time Capsule and to the back-up function of the Time Machine feature (using WPA/WPA2 security, and, without the network name visible to third parties), and, WITH allowed access to my HP inkjet printer (class 6110);
    (3) I want the PC laptop to wirelessly link to the Time Capsule (using WEP security), but WITHOUT ACCESS to the Time Machine, WITHOUT access to the back-ups on the iMAC, WITHOUT access to the back-ups on the MacBook, and, WITHOUT access to the inkjet printer --- I only want the PC to use the Time Capsule as a WIRELESS ROUTER so that the PC laptop can access the internet.
    (4) And, finally, I want to specify (Time-Capsule/Time-Machine/server ) access ONLY to the iMAC and the MacBook, so that others cannot gain any access.
I specifically need help to set up and configure the Time Capsule so that the PC laptop, as stated above, should have limited access to the Time Capsule --- namely, only to access the internet, and, not even be aware of stored data on the Time Capsule, not even be aware of the inkjet printer, and, not even see my WPA network name when the PC scans for wireless devices.
I also want the iMAC and the MacBook to have access to each other’s data stored on the Time Capsule (like a common server).
I have an old D-Link DI-624 wireless router that I used before buying the Time Capsule, which is available, if needed. Hopefully, I can configure the Time Capsule so that I would not need the old D-Link.
    Thank you in advance,
    David.

The basic method for remote access is not changed.
    http://gigaom.com/apple/access-your-time-capsule-over-the-internet/
    You have a few issues.
The really big one.. the school firewall should not let you connect to home.
Check the IT admin at your school but if they allow anything but a few protocols like http and https through, they are not doing their job. You cannot afford in a large network to have every Tom Dick and Harry access any open device.. that can introduce viruses and trojans into the network behind the firewall.
The general method for remote access on large networks is vpn and the TC offers no vpn connection.. just AFP.
If you intend using 3G wireless stick or the like then you can get access.
The next issue is static public IP or how to find the TC.. you need some way to find the IP if your ISP does not offer static ip, and the tc has no dyndns client. Since Apple shut down new users for mobileme and will close that service there is no method to find the TC IP without owning your own domain. You would be better placing the TC in bridge behind a router that does offer dyndns and port forward AFP (TCP 548) to it.

  • WRT110 Can't connect MAC and PC to wireless network at the same time.

I installed a WRT110 router on my son-in-law's MAC sometime back and at the time configured it to have the MAC connected via Ethernet.  My PC laptop worked fine with it in the wireless mode.  Recently we changed the MAC to wireless newtworking and removed the Ehthernet connection.  Now if the MAC connects to the wireless network first and then I attempt to connect with my PC laptop the PC cannot find the network and the MAC loses connection.  If I shut my PC down the MAC will not find the network until it is put to sleep and reawakened.  If the MAC is put to sleep my PC wil immediately find the network. If I first connect my PC and then awaken the MAC both work fine.  I've checked all of the router's setup settings and they seem to be OK.  I am not MAC savvy and my son-in-law is a neophyte at computers so we are really helpless when something doesn't work.  Help will be appreciated.

I tried this setup change after reading another similar post.  It didn't help.  One thing I had wrong in the first post is that neither computer will connect to the wireless net after we experience the wireless failures until both are turned off, at least that is what happened after making the suggested changes.  Is this a WRT110 issue?  Seems there are quite a few posts similar to mine.

  • Win8 can not find and connect the wireless network which created in win7

I am a fan of DOTA, sometimes i play it with my roommate. But after i installed win8, my roommate and i can not connect to each other. He used win7 to set up a wireless network, but i could not find the network. And i used win8 to set up a
wireless network.Althrought it prompted create successfully, i could not find it in my laptop. So who can explain it to me? I really think using the networkd on right side instead of the classic network finder is a big mistake.

    Hi,
As you said, the other laptop couldn't see the adhoc network.
I suggest you use the following method to re-create the adhoc network.
Firstly, please use the following command to verify that your network interface supports virtualization.
    netsh wlan show drivers
If Hosted network supported says Yes, please enter the following commands to configure an ad hoc wireless connection.
    netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=allow ssid=<network name> key=<passkey>
Then, you need to start the mode to create an ad hoc connection. Please enter the command below.
    netsh wlan start hostednetwork
For the detail information, refer to the following link:

  • Installing Time capsule with U-Verse Wireless Network

    Hi all,
I am not a techy, but I get by. I am going to install the Time Capsule and I realized that I don't think this will work with my existing U-Verse Fiber wireless network. After some thought, I believe I should just use this for wireless backup and peripheral operations rather than the internet as my current wifi also operates the televisions in the house.
I'm hoping to get some guidance from the community as to how to use this device without having to purchase more equipment or re-wiring my entire home. Can I just plug it in and use it for wireless backup or will it interfere with my internet service (which I am happy with)?
    Any thoughts?

    Welcome to the discussions!
You are correct to allow your existing setup handle internet connections.
The simplest setup would be to configure your Time Capsule to "Join" the wireless network created by the U-Verse router. Your computers will be able to backup via wireless assuming that you have a good connection.
If your U-Verse router provides ethernet ports for devices (it likely does), you would also have the option of connecting the Time Capsule to the U-Verse router with an ethernet cable. This would make sense if the Time Capsule will be located near the U-Verse router as ethernet is both faster and more reliable than wireless.
Not to get too technical here, but if you connect the TC this way, you will set Connection Sharing on the TC for "Off (Bridge Mode)".
If you connect the Time Capsule via ethernet, you would also have the option to setup the Time Capsule to "create" its own wireless network. So, you would have two wireless networks available...one created by the U-Verse router and the other created by the Time Capsule.
If you have computers capable of wireless connections at "n" speeds, they could connect to the Time Capsule and your other "g" devices would connect to the U-Verse. In fact, if you purchase a new dual band TC, it will be capable of creating two wireless networks on its own.
So, you have a number of options available. Just depends on how simple or complex you want things to be.

  • Airport Ext. 4th Gen. and our Home Wireless Network in chaos?

    Hi,
In the past 10-12 days (started the week prior to last) approx (May 20th to May 24th ) was the "beginning" of out of the blue random and various (as far as which laptop computer or desktop computer would connect to our home network. Time Warner in N.East Ohio is our ISP provider and have been out three times. We have a mixture of computers (iMac 800 mGZ running OSX 10.3.9 via ethernet from rear of Airport Extreme ( Airport Utility=V 5.6.1)
A-Port Extreme 4th Generation (Firmware V 7.6.3 (followed Aiport utilty popup when did update > reading up on it)
Also have a iMac 2010 OSX 10.6.8 , a iPad (latest version (?4 vs. 3) purchased Dec. 2012 and iOS up to date and also airport utilty for it , (it will do online wi fi at work (School based ) but at home is very problemtic (suddenly)
iPod Touch 2nd Generation (max iOS will go online each time at home so far ) re:Windows 7 based Computers
aDell Mini Laptop is hit miss , a recent Sony Vaio is not connecting at all and when it did could not print to a cross-platform HP Laser Jet wi fi printer (can hook up via USB also (Printer) A self built Tower (windows 7 with a SSD and a 7200RPM HD as a second drive connects most of the time (using a USB wi fi "dongle " (?) would a wi fi card be better
Note : We are at the point of recycling the Motorola SURFboard Doscis II Cable modem , the 4th Generation Airport Extreme and restart computers (and have also unplugged the computers and * the complete system (overnight=C-Modem, Airport Extreme and any all Computers and iOS devices (shut off if unplugging not a issue or option)
I read over in User Tips  (Airport-Complete Power Recycle last modified 4.21.2012 in Apple Support Communities
I am going to do that (reset to default settings out of the box ) * We also purchased at the same time as The Airport Extreme (4th Gen) a 1st Generation Airport Express (802.11n 2.4-5.0) (not the second generation dual band Airport Express currently sold in the Apple Store (but ? am considering (based on outcome of complete Recyle adding it to extend our network as prior some users got 3-4 bars etc ) we had a 802.11b/g airport express
but never utilized it for some reason (we started with a Netgear 802.11b it lasted a month (they sent out a new one ) bought a white dome Airport 802.11b(or ) then a D-Link 802.11b/g that failed constantly (I do not recall the model) then in late 2009 bought a MacBook Pro, and also The 4th Generation Airport Extreme and as we added devices (computers Mac or Windows) iOS devices iPod Touch 2nd generation and most recent a iPad
all had worked without connectivity issues until date above
oddly (the Cable Modem=all lights including activity(blinked as supposed to or were solid as designed
and the Airport Extreme light stayed Green ... (other then when doing a recycle the Modem would synch then the Airport Extreme would be Amber (soldid for a few seconds, then blinked amber for a few seconds then turned Green.
I isolated the Motorola Surfboard Modem (ethernet out to a older imac and it got online (with A-Port Extreme ethernet connection disconnected-then did a recycle and wired in the Airport Extreme (WAN) to Cable Modem Docis II and then ethernet from rear of Airport Extreme (and the iMac (2004 with a Airport Card in it) went online
We use ethernet connection on it due to its security limits (type of ) where all other computers and iOs devices
utilizing the Airport Extreme are all wireless and can print wirelessly (up to thedate above)
I did discuss Docsiss III cable modems (we purchased a Docsis I then II as data needs were upgraded and renting  made purchase a easy decision (and DocissIII has some features not available (in the Motorola SURFboard Docsis III I read the manual and quick start (not ?that its the internet modem or not but channel bonding + faster D-Load speeds (our service was 10MBs and TWC increased it to 15 MBS without fees (and intersting is that all rentals (at least online here) are Dosciss III regardless of plan type ( and in specs though are plan states our Modem and DocissII are fine ) only the Turbo and ?Business class (30MBs and 50Mbs plans/  services "require Docis III cable/internet modems (I did some research awhile back on a "Unofficial Time Warner site and www.AVS
.com or .net and one or both discussed TWC, Docsis III internet modems +A-Z (the AVS forum also discuss's HDTV (and cable boxes another story)
I realize this is long (and some one can pull out possibly a quick option or issue (I did check the A-Port Utility settings and also power output (a MacWorld Article in March 2013 page 90 gave the ratio and there are other ways to do it as well (and out put wise (Signal) we are in the excellent range but when have connectivity issues
and run system disgnostics (wether Mac or windows) its (on my iMac Airport=Green (three top issuesare green
    then at ISP= Red
TWC feels if it continues it must be the Airport Extreme (?)
Will do the complete recycle (set to default and same with Utilty ) and once done verify settings-security levels etc
    * I can not figure out how to activate Firewall Logging (its on for firewall.apps ) but not actual Firewall on Network (Airport or ? my Imac) best book I read (The Missing Manual for OSX 10.6.x SNow Leopard (but it did not detail
Airport EXtreme-Airport Express in detail )

    Hi There,
I appear to be having the same issue. I have been using my provided time warner router and wifi with all of my Apple devices without an issue until recently. It appears that my macbook pro and twc router will not initiate the "handshake". I get a wrong password was entered or network error message. I contacted twc and they reset my router and renamed it along with a new password. This initially fixed the issue for maybe a day or so. Then the problem began all over again. I have been through he ringer, reinstalled osx, deleted plist...etc contacted apple care and twc. At this point both parties have been no help what so ever... So I connected a new western digital wifi router and all of a sudden I'm getting amazing speed and connectivity. I'm still puzzled as to why all of a sudden my macbook pro or Internet would just quit working... If anyone has any suggestions I'm all ears and any help would be great.

  • Can see and recognize my wireless network and Internet is working, but I can't connect with ANY computers/iPad/iPod/air TV, etc. I have reset the time machine several times, and can see the network, but cannot access it with any device. PLEASE HELP!

I have Comcast Internet and have it connected to a Motorla Surfboard modem and have that running directly to a 2TB Time Capsule. The TC is serving as our time machine as well as our wireless router. We lost power in a storm a week ago and can no longer connect to my wireless network I can see the network and sign into it via password, but cannot connect with any device(iMac, MacBook, iPhones, iPod touches, air tv, etc.). ALL of these devices worked gat before the power went out. I reset both modem and TC and still can't connect. I can connect to the Internet through Ethernet cord directly from the modems dn have confirmation(per Comcast service) that the Internet is working and we have a good connection.
The TC is less than six months old so I'm not sure what is wrong. I have reset settings with TC to no avail. I have reset the TC SEVERAL times and have no idea what could be wrong and what is prohibiting me from connecting. Anyone that has ANY suggestions or ideas as to how to fix this, PLEASE HELP!!!  I'm going crazy using iPad 3G and not being able to connect to our wifi. THANKS FOR YOUR TIME AND I LOOK FORWARD TO GETTING BACK TO THE 21ST CENTURY!

Anyone have any ideas or information to help with this?  Any help and consideration is MUCH appreciated.

  • My internet works fine with my wired cable modem, but when i connect to my extreme base station and setup my wireless network the internet no longer works and my apple tv by default

my cable modem works fine, but when I hook it up to my extreme base station and run through the prompts and set up my wireless network it doesnt work and neither does my apple tv by default. I am unsure how to correct this problem. It will come up saying that I dont have an IP address when I have it set to DCHP so I dont know what the problem is.

Push the reset button on the modem and power the modem off
Power off everything else....all devices....order is not important
    Wait 15-20 minutes or longer
Connect the Ethernet cable from the modem to the WAN port (circle of dots icon) on the AirPort Extreme
Power up the modem and let it run for 5 minutes by itself
Power up the AirPort Extreme and let it run for 5 minutes
Power up each other device one at a time a few minutes apart
    Check the network

  • Mixture of WEP and WPA on wireless network

I have a WRT54G and a cable modem. The router is configured to use WPA. I have many personal wireless devices (print servers, computers, access points, etc.) on my network. All are configured to use WPA. My wife and I just got company-issued laptops from our employer that have software that does not support WPA (we can't change the software). The laptops only support WEP. Is there a way to run a mixture of WEP and WPA on a wireless network? If I have to buy an additional router, that is OK. I'm looking for a solution that will allow me to run both WPA and WEP over the same internet connection.
Would MAC filtering on my current router be a possible solution?

It is not possible to use WEP & WPA at a same time in a router .....
But you can enable the MAC flitering on the router for all wireless devices ..... let me know if it works ....

  • Apple tv and a local wireless network

i'm trying to set up my apple tv and my macbook pro, but i have no internet connection where i'm at currently. i assumed you could simply set up a local wireless network, so i hooked up my netgear router and my macbook recognizes and well...the apple tv kinda freak out when the wireless router is on. it doesn't always respond to the remote. when it does find the wireless signal, it frequently resets itself and then stalls out again....when i turn the router off, the apple tv functions normally....with no content from my macbook though of course......
    any thoughts?

I use the Apple Airport Extreme. I love it, but many others like D-Link, Netgear..... I would look for an N router if your Netgear isn't. What is your Netgear hooked up to? That might be the problem. I also think that you might want to hook up the ATV2 wired and then restore it, and reenter all of the user and setup info afterward. It may not be the Netgear at all. If you restore the ATV2 and it still does it, then you can look at the Netgear and what it's hooked up to. No sense spending money if what you have works well. If you don't have Internet (I just noticed that statement above), I think you'll have issues with the ATV2. It has to have a way of connecting and phoning home to Apple, etc.
