Since installing OS X Lion it is impossible to type

After installing OS X Lion, it is impossible to type in any application. The insertion point jumps everywhere. Installed 2GB additional memory but no help. My MacBook is now useless!

I looked in preferences and the box isn't checked for this option. Is this a Lion problem or an iTunes thing?

Not enough free space on the startup disk can slow the system down.
Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon. Click Get Info. In the Get Info window you will see Capacity and Available. Make sure there's a minimum of 15% free disk space.
For startup issues... open System Preferences > Users & Groups - Login Items. Delete any apps listed there then restart your mac.
And disable the Lion "resume" feature.
Open System Preferences > General
Deselect: Restore windows when quitting and re-opening apps
And Spotlight may be indexing... you can turn that off > Turning Off Spotlight | Mac Tricks And Tips

Cannot backup to external drive since installing updates for Lion.

Since installing updates to Lion os, my external 2TB western digital drive now cannot backup and disc utility cannot repair.
I apparently now need to reformat the external drive but first must back up the files on the external drive or they will be erased.
Does this now mean that I have to buy a second external drive and transfer all the files (one and a half TB's worth) on the existing external drive to the new external drive and then reformat the old drive and then transfer the files back onto the old drive?
Why do software updates for os cause problems with external backup drives?
I thought the whole point of updates was to keep the system running smoothly and not create havoc.

if you backup to the device it should not matter if the backup is erased as long as your main hd don't explode before you can back it up to the external hd once more after it have been formatted
if the hd is empty timemachine does a 100% full backup of everything on the hd to the ext hd

Lagging / crashing since installing OS X Lion

I just downloaded Lion last night and since programs and system are either lagging or crash and I have had to reboot Macbook Pro several times! Never had this issue anyone know a fix?

Hopefully, someone with Apple is monitoring these discussion groups and is working on a resolution.
Apple does not monitor these discussion groups except to moderate them. It is our responsibility to track down and resolve individual problems. If we find a cause that is truly a bug, then we should file bug reports. But we have to find out the problem first. It isn't fair to Apple to fill up the bug report system with 3000 reports of spinning beach balls. All that will happen then is that Apple will close public access to the bug reporter.

Computer slowed since installing OS X Lion...

From what I can tell, the problem is caused by Spotlight as it constantly re-indexes my hard drive, even though I have moved all photos, music, video, and docments to an external drive and only use the main hard drive for applications.
I tried turning off indexing, but of course, while this speeds up the computer significantly (almost to pre-Lion speeds), it also affects file searches.
This is driving me absolutely up the wall!
Any good suggestions out there - particularly from the Apple Techs who monitor these forums?

Mac running slow, worse since installing Yosemite from Lion

Mac started to run slow every now and then, updated to yosemite and now getting worse, slow to open programmes like iPhoto (getting jammed when using), websites and switching between the two. Get a coloured wheel often. More worryingly recently when waking from sleep, the left half of my screen is distorted like an old unturned TV!! I am a typical user with little knowledge on how macs work, so am nervous to do much. Have included the etracheck report for info. Can somebody tell me if i should take it to a mac "shop" or have any advice on fixing myself. many thanks

You OS X installation is defective and needs to be reinstalled.
Reinstalling OS X Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall OS X: Select Reinstall OS X and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

Impossible to share folders as guest since migrated to OS Lion

I wish to share some folders having guest access. It was working well with Leopard but since I migrated to Lion it is impossible.
I have access to my shared folders but only by entering the login/password
The option "Allow guests to connect to shared folder" is enabled.
Is a known issue?

Indeed, the issue does not come from the Wiki.
After creating a new wiki exempt of calendar, the pages are displayed w/o problem in guest mode.
Interestingly, I still get the same message in the Console, which is in fact a warning.
So the error must be found elsewhere…

After installing canon camera window 8.8.0.10 "No camera found". My Powershot G11 worked fine before installing OS x lion

"No camera found" messagers have occured since installing OS X Lion. I downloaded latest software Camera Window DC 8.8.0.10. Still the software cannot find my Canon Posershot G11. Software and OS Snow Leopard worked fine since I got my camera.

stefan, try using a different usb port. i had the same problem and when i changed usb ports it worked. not sure if it's because one port on my mbp is powered and the other isn't...? when i changed to the powered usb port camera window worked, it recognized my g11 right away...then it worked on the other port afterwards...i can't explain why this would happen. anyway, good luck i hope this helps.

15 inch Mid-2010 MacBook Pro freezing since installing Lion

I've had this problem for a while now. It started a few weeks after I installed Lion in the summer. My MacBook Pro would just freeze without warning and the only thing I can do is a force shutdown. I've checked the logs, and these freezes do not log themselves like other crashes, there is no record of them happening. I have also noticed that Apple has identified that my particular model of MacBook Pro can experience an issue where it may freeze intermittently or stop displaying video, and as such they put out an update to help remedy this, which I have installed and the problem still exists.
The freeze appears to happen application by application. One application may freeze, so I attempt to force quit this, but then the force quit window freezes, and then whatever else I click results in a spinning wheel, forcing me to hold down the power button to restart my Mac. I never had this issue with Snow Leopard, it has only started since I upgraded to Lion.
I have taken it into an Apple store, and they could not indentify any issues since there were no logs of the crashes. They wiped my laptop and suggested I try using it for a while without any of my data on it to see if the freezes still happened - they didn't. He then said not to restore my data from a Time Machine backup as any bugs that may be causing these freezes would also be restored. Therefore, I installed every application manually and only copied over my documents and music manually. For a few months, this fixed the issue, but I have noticed that it has started happening again, more and more frequently just like before.
I've also run the Apple Hardware Test that came with my Mac and it found no issues. I've also reset the SMC and PRAM to no avail.
My specs are:
2.4GHz Intel Core i5
8GB RAM
500GB HDD
Lion 10.7.3
If anyone has any suggestions on how to fix this issue or knows why it is happening, please let me know, I would greatly appreciate it.

Very erratic behaviour since installing Lion - where do I start

Since installing Lion a few weeks ago on my Macmini I've have a couple of issues which are bugging (no pun intended) the life out of me. I'm almost at the point of doing a complete erase and install of Lion it's that bad. Normally I always do an erase and install when upgrading OSX but the setup of my mini is such that it would take me a long time to rebuild it from scratch. That'll teach me.. I just upgraded Lion on top of Snow Leopeard, whereas on my MBP I did a clean install of Lion and no problems.
Here are the issues on my mini:
1) In the past couple of days I've had a couple of kernal panics "You need to restart your computer..." I've never had this before on any of my Mac's. The only thing that has changed on my system is that I've updated a driver for my WD MyBook drive, which I use as my TM backup. Since upgrading to Lion I switched off time machine and only turned this back on because I thought I'd reached a general steady state with my system and after installing the driver update. I've since disabled TM so fingers crossed no more problems..
2) On serveral occasions, whilst using back to my mac, to screenshare my mini on my MBP, I've had windows and hard drives disappear off screen. If I do a right mouse click on my finder I can view the windows on screen but when I select them they disapear. I have a feeling that mission control is doing something, but I never use this, nor do I have anything set-up, other than the intial configuration. This is *really* doing my head in. I can usually fix it by changing the screen dimensions on my mini through the Display control panel or switching my TV over to the hdmi input so I can view the desktop directly on my TV (as opposed to screensharing).
I'm not really sure if this is a problem with mission control, or back to my mac, or a video input problem (I'm using a mini displayport to dvi and dvi to hdmi cable to connect the mini to my TV).

HT1473 I got my MAC PRO installed with iOS lion and since then i'm unable to add music on my iTunes and i tried adding to library option but still it copies and at the end it stays empty, doesn't even open new songs on it. any suggestions ?

I've rebooted my mac before installing new ios lion, so after everything was done i copied my data back to my mac book pro, then simple clicked on adding to library option in itune and it only synced half of the track and rest simply didnt copy, i thought maybe some error occured and i tryed the same procedure again but its not adding more tracks in it. and i just notice when ever i try play a new song through my data it does not open in itune these are the same tracks and songs i been listening to since ages on different note books and pods..
Help me i've tryed everything but nathing seems to be working. and my itune is uptodated =S

Use the trackpad to scroll, thats what it was designed for. The scroll bars automatically disappear when not being used and will appear if you scroll up or down using the trackpad.
This is a user-to-user forum and most people will post on here if they have problems. You very rarely get people posting to say there update went smooth. The fact is the vast majority of Mountain Lion users will not be experiencing any major problems with the OS, or maybe with apps which are not compatible, but thats hardly Apple's fault if developers don't update their apps.

Since installing mountain lion i have a problem with mail. when i delete a message close and open mail the message has come back. please help!

Since installing Mountain Lion i have a problem with Mail. I delete a number of messages from the same person but keep the newest message in my Inbox. I actually delete them from the Trash. The next time i open Mail the deleted messages are back again. Can anybody please help as this is getting annoying. Thanks in Anticipation.

Problems such as yours are sometimes caused by files that should belong to you but are locked or have wrong permissions. This procedure will check for such files. It makes no changes and therefore will not, in itself, solve your problem.
First, empty the Trash.
Triple-click the line below to select it, then copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):

Lion no longer supports PowerPC apps. If this is Microsoft Office 2008 (Entourage 2008) then you should disable the syncing services. (I don't have Office 2008 installed anymore so I don't know exactly what it's called anymore.) If you have Microsoft Office 2004 or earlier, then it can't be run on Lion at all since Lion removed Rosetta, which is what allowed a PPC app to run on an Intel based Mac.
Also, I believe Microsoft removed sync services from the current Outlook 2011 (which replaces Entourage) so even upgrading to a newer version of Microsoft Office will not get you back that calendar sync feature. Supposedly Microsoft is working on a new syncing system, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

Since installing lion, my mac no longer recognises my external hardrive also my ipad and iphone no longer automatically start itunes.

since installing lion, i can lo longer go to "my imac" and find external hard drives and other devices i plug into a usb hub. my ipad and iphone don't automatically open itunes only iphoto. my external hardrive used to also load automatically, now it doesn't and when i plug it in i can't find it. need some help i have some importanr things i need to transfer.
