Since iTunes update 8.1.1, iTunes keeps switching to mini-player mode

As the title says, when I open up iTunes after my macbook has been booted it keeps switching to mini-player mode instead of the full library. Sometimes does it when I open up iTunes whilst playing music as well. Never had this problem before seems to have started after the 8.1.1 update.
Any ideas how I could fix it or is it a new bug, tried deleting the preferences file in my home directory.

Thanks for that. The answer was really quite simple! For some reason with iTunes 8.1 it is necessary to turn of Airport Express speakers in order to watch music videos on the computer: before the videos played normally (without audio through AE speakers).

  • ITunes keeps opening in Mini-Player format

A few days ago I hit Ctrl-M (instead of Ctrl-N) and now find iTunes opens each time in Mini-Player mode. How can I get it back to opening in full screen mode?
(I have already tried the on-line help and can't find anything relevant. Also, I have checked and the tick-box in Edit/Preferences/Advanced is NOT set to keep the Mini-Player window on top of all other windows.)

Sorted it out myself ... somehow

  • ITunes 10.6 has High CPU Usage when switched to Mini Player

iTunes has high CPU usage when switched to mini player. The CPU usage goes to 80-100% when the next song is played in Mini Player. iTunes then stays at high CPU usage.
Upon exiting mini player the CPU usage will drop back to the normal 0-5% levels.
This only happens when playing from the main music library; which my library is at 7089 items, 42.04 GB.
When playing from a smaller playlist such as a smart playlist with about 15 songs in it for example, the CPU usage stays low/normal.

Do you have any better luck with that if you update to iTunes 10.6.1.7?
From the notes for the release:
iTunes 10.6.1 provides a number of improvements, including:
    • Fixes several issues that may cause iTunes to unexpectedly quit while playing videos, changing artwork size in Grid view and syncing photos to devices.
    • Addresses an issue where some iTunes interface elements are incorrectly described by VoiceOver and WindowEyes.
    • Fixes a problem where iTunes may become unresponsive while syncing iPod nano or iPod shuffle.
    • Resolves an ordering problem while browsing TV episodes in your iTunes library on Apple TV.

  • Full iTunes window pops open when in mini-player mode?

    Hi
I've noticed with the most recent version of iTunes in mini-player mode on my iMac, when I hover my mouse pointer downwards towards the dock, the full window springs open.
I'm not hovering near the iTunes icon, and the pointer doesn't hit the mini-player, so not sure why this is happening? No big issue, but it is pretty annoying! It's bit random, but seems to happen mainly with that downward motion of the mouse pointer.
Anyone else noticed this?? I'm on iTunes 11.0.4, OSX 10.6.8 on an iMac.
    Thanks!
    Ben

Judy, I searched around and found the post I pasted below; you can use your Spotlight searcher and see if you have the Quartz Composer Visualizer plugin in my 'internet plugins' in the library folder.

  • ITunes stopped playback of podcast when switching to Mini Player view

I'm using iTunes 10.1.1.4 and noticed that when I was playing a podcast and switched to the Mini Player view using the pull down menu (View -> Switch to Mini Player), the playback stopped completely.
I don't use iTunes a lot, but I would not have thought that this is a set up issue, most likely it is just a bug. I repeated the steps again later and it behaved correctly. But I have reproduced the playback stoppage issue several more times today listening to other music podcasts. I also had problems attempting to re-start a paused playback - I had to try several attempts before forcing it to re-load.
    Anyone else experiencing this?
I tried to file a Support Ticket so that I could report this, but I was unable to navigate through without getting to a "pay for incident support" - I just want to report this to Apple.

Thank you "the fiend" - I have submitted some feedback using the link that you gave, let's see if anything happens. It does not look like it is the appropriate place to report an issue, but it might lead to a case being created?
    Cheers!

  • I have an iphone 4 and it appears that since i updated to ios6 that i keep loosing 3G network.  is there a fix to this? i have reset my network connections several times.  I have no trouble connecting to wifi when i am home.

I have an iphone 4 and it appears that since i have updated to ios6 that i keep loosing my 3g network connection.  i have reset the network connection several times only to loose 3g again whenever i try to connect to a sight. can anyone tell me what will stop this?

Problem persisted after fixes were done so wife called apple today.           Their fix is to turn cellular off when in the house and turn it back on when she leaves- the 4 doesn't keep the password so she has to enter the password too... This wasn't a fix ...it's just resolving the connection problem... They also said that they made ios6 have security features so nobody can hack into the wifi without having the password and it has to be entered to use the wifi.  My 5 and the iPads stay on with no problems.  It's just the 4.        So far so good...she's had wifi all day when home.    It's inconvenient but it's either completely reboot it with iTunes (which doesn't work for her) or buy a new phone and she won't do that either.
So...Apple is saying that she didn't have to do the updates either and could've stayed with the previous iOS     but !!!too late now!!!  We've updated because we think our phones will run better but the ios6 just made it a pita for users
I wonder if the hackers of the world are having as many issues as the peeps who are just trying to use their wifi??

  • ITunes error -15000 with AirTunes after autostartup in mini player mode

    Hi,
I was looking for a way to submit an error description to Apple but on the support pages I didn't find an email address for such a purpose. Anyone knows one? I'd like to submit the following iTunes problem to Apple:
If iTunes is autostarted from the dock in mini player layout and selected AirTunes output, you ALWAYS get error -15000 if you start the player by pressing the play button too early. If you wait "some" extra time before starting playback then everything is OK. This annoying "feature" exists since version 7 (and maybe before). And even version 9 with snow leopard did not change that. So I fear they even do not know about that. So hopefully someone from Apple will read this... Please! If you find no other way to solve the problem - disable the buttons until everything required to function is initalized properly!

Well, I'll be a monkey's uncle. One user in the thread Jolly posts mentions success after restarting an Airport Extreme in the network. I was very skeptical, but I figured I would try it so I could say I did. Lo and behold, it worked.
With all of the problems I've seen, all of the weird workarounds people have had to implement, there's obviously some ongoing janky-ness Apple needs to address with AirTunes, but for the moment I seem to have found the right fairy dust to sprinkle on the problem.
    Thanks, Jolly Giant!

  • ITunes always opens in Mini Player?? Help

Can't go into much more detail except that every time I open my iTunes, it opens in the little mini player. I should clarify by saying this by saying that by "open" I mean run iTunes after it has been QUIT after the last usage.

    Hey,
I am facing the same problem. Everytime i open iTunes on my mac, it always opens as the mini player on the left top corner of my screen(its never opened at any other position). Then i change it to the normal player with <shift>+<command>+m. Later, when i quit and reopen it, the normal window appears.
I've tried reinstalling it but the problem persists. Is there any way to fix this bug?
Using OSX 10.7.1 and iTunes 10.4.1.

  • Since new update of program the browser keeps hanging and then crashing

Ever since the last update of the firefox browser the browser takes too long to open and also it hangs a lot and then crashes and when it starts again it either is unable to open to the pages it has crashed at or just does not restart. I am having to turn off computer to restart the browser and that too at times does not start I have to bomb out thru task manager and restart.
I have now tried re installing Firefox twice but to no effect.
Before I switch over to another browser I would request your assistance.

    Hi Ben.
I believe that means you must have been in the root library. You need to be in the Home library. From the Finder menu>Go. Hold down the option key to reveal the Home Library choice from the drop down.

    Hi Brad,
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities!
Take a look at the article below, it provides suggestions for isolating an iTunes issue in Windows. If you're only seeing the issue in one user account, you may be able to resolve it by pulling the preference files and reconfiguring iTunes.
iTunes for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8: Fix unexpected quits or launch issues
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1717
If you experience the issue in one particular user account, the suggestions below may resolve the issue. Before proceeding, you'll need to make hidden files and folder visible in Windows using steps 1-5.
Remove iTunes Preference files. Some of the files that iTunes stores settings and preferences in may be unusable. iTunes saves its preferences in two folders. Move one of them to the desktop and test to see if the issue persists. If it does, move it back and remove the second folder. The locations for the preference folders are:
    c:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Apple Computer\iTunes
    c:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes

  • After installing latest Mavericks update (10.9.4), keyboard keeps switching itself back to U.S.

I downloaded the recommended update for OSX Mavericks 10.9.4 yesterday, and ever since, my laptop keyboard has been inexplicably switching back to U.S. every hour or so. I am based in the UK and would prefer to use the British keyboard setting, which has never been a problem in the past. However, every time I look up at my screen, my keyboard has managed to default back to U.S. at the top of my screen (next to the volume and Date and Time settings).
My laptop is late 2011 11-inch MacBook Air. Please someone help!

    Back up all data.
This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership, permissions, and access controls to the default. If you've intentionally set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it, but you do need to follow the instructions below.
    Step 1
If you have more than one user, and the one in question is not an administrator, then go to Step 2.
Triple-click anywhere in the following line on this page to select it:
    sudo find ~ $TMPDIR.. -exec chflags nouchg,nouappnd {} + -exec chown $UID {} + -exec chmod +rw {} + -exec chmod -N {} + -type d -exec chmod +x {} + 2>&-
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window by pressing command-V. I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, you may have to press the return key after pasting.
You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The command may take several minutes to run, depending on how many files you have. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign ($) to appear, then quit Terminal.
    Step 2 (optional)
Take this step only if you have trouble with Step 1, if you prefer not to take it, or if it doesn't solve the problem.
Start up in Recovery mode. When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
              Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open. In that window, type this:
    res
Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
    resetpassword
Press return. A Reset Password window will open. You’re not going to reset a password.
Select your startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
    Select
               ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.

  • Iphone 6 won't lock into landscape mode, keep switching back to portrait mode

    Hi,
Please help me, this has driven me nut, I can't seem to lock my iphone 6 into landscape mode, it will only lock my screen when I am in portrait mode.
For example, if I open safari and turn my phone sideway, safari would turn into landscape mode, and if I want to lock my screen to keep it in landscape mode, it won't do it, as soon as I select that screen lock button, it will turn back to portrait mode and lock my screen up into portrait mode.
What should I do to keep my screen lock at landscape mode??? I have tried this with several apps and the same thing happen, like in Calculator, when I turn it sideway and try to lock it, it goes right back to portrait mode.
I restored my iPhone 6 from my iPhone 5c so just wonder if it has anything to do with that or just some bugs in iOS8???
My current display is in Standard and not Zoom display, and I even try to set it as Zoom and then reset it back to Standard to try to see if it works and it still doesn't work.
    HELP ME!!!!

I Just spent over an hour with support on this issue and apparently in iOS 8 they removed the option for the phones to lock in landscape mode. So, there is nothing wrong with your phone, unfortunately they removed a very useful feature.  Maybe they will see if enough users want it they will fix it in an update.

  • FF 19.0 keeps switching to full-screen mode

This is most annoying! I'll be happily working away when suddenly all my toolbars disappear. At first I had no idea what was going on, and would have to close and reopen FF to get them back, then I discovered that the browser was just switching arbitrarily into full screen mode. I've looked to see if maybe there is something in an inconvenient place that I'm accidentally clicking on to cause this, but no. It just happens for no reason. Is there a fix for this?

Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).
*Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe mode start window or otherwise make changes.

  • ITunes 5 poor performance in mini player view

When I switch the iTunes 5 interface to the "mini player" view (green plus button), iTunes consumes ~65% CPU time continuously. This isn't the case when iTunes is minimzed, and when the entire interface is visible it only takes ~15% CPU time continuously. This wasn't the case with iTunes 4.x, in which the mini player mode didn't appear to consume any more CPU time than any other view mode. It's terribly annoying since it heats the computer significantly and forces my laptop's fan to spin nonstop.
I can only attribute this behavior to the new "skin," but is anyone else seeing poor performance from iTunes 5 in the mini player view?

No, I just downloaded iTunes 5 a few days ago and I don't have any add-ons. I should clarify that this is on my 867MHz Powerbook G4.
I've been observing the CPU usage some more, and it seems to take a huge hit with songs/labels that are very long; i.e.: ones that scroll sideways across the yellow display on the second line. I've noticed this behavior with Podcasts--the Podcast name will be short and will not scroll, then it's description will roll up and will be long enough to require sideways scrolling. The poor performance comes only whin scrolling titles are being displayed, consuming 45-65% CPU.
Playing music with short artist and album names consumes 10-15% CPU continuously, with spikes to 35% when the artist/album rolls upwards on the yellow display window. If sideways scrolling is displayed, again CPU usage stays high.
If iTunes 5 is in mini player mode and not playing anything (only the Mac logo in the yellow window), then continuous CPU usage is <1%.
It seems to me that text animation in the GUI has taken a huge hit with the upgrade to iTunes 5.
