Since iTunes8, I can't keep movie window on top?

I've looked several times, it's CHECKED.
Confirmed (same, and just as before) what Im trying to launch from iTunes is categorized as a movie.
It'll only float on top in iTunes now, as opposed to before could float anywhere?
Restarted, rebooted, etc etc, same same.

ok, so oddly enough. right after my post itunes seemed to fix itself. the window is now on top of everything, there was no update or anything, it just fixed itself. i'm guessing it's just a "0.0" bug and i assume that they'll fix it in the next update....
on the same note: when itunes goes to the next video on the playlist, it resizes to the original file size and centers the video window in the middle of the screen and i have to move it to it's corner and resize it which brings me to another glitch/feature.
when i resize the window, itunes no longer stops me from resizing outside the screen! i'll grab a corner and drag it to the edge of my screen and continue on outside the screen! it doesnt stop at the edge anymore so now it takes alot more effort to resize the window!!! anyone else experiencing this? its really odd that i can pull a corner beyond my screen realestate....

Keeping a window on top using JNI.

Hi,
We would like to keep a java JFrame as the top window on the screen.
There is plenty of discussion regarding the fact that it's not possible without a native call which I accept (there is a price to pay for system independence). BUT, in my situation this isn't an issue, because it will always run on Windows.
So... my question is how do you use the JNI to keep a window on top? I've never used JNI, so from the top please... ... ...

Can't move window whose top bar is off screen

I have a window whose top bar is off the screen. The window is a preferences window. Because part of the window is off the screen, I can't properly set the preferences. The program is Quicksilver, but this is a general problem in Mac OSX and I would like a solution for the general problem.
The window got offscreen when I detached an external monitor from my laptop. The window moved from the external screen to my computer's screen, but it moved above the screen. I can see the window in expose, and the bottom of the window normally.
Because the top of the window is above the screen, I am not able to move it. There is no option to maximize the window in the menu bar's "window" setting -- only minimize and close. If I close the window and reopen it, it reopens in the same place.
The general solution on the internet is to use an applescript to move the first window of the first process, but possibly because this window is a preferences window, the applescript does not work.
Is there a way, any way, in mac os x to move any window that is not to drag the top bar? I'm getting really frustrated at this stuck window.

One thing that works sometimes is to change the resolution on your monitor. That might put the window where you can reposition it, then you can put the resolution back where you like it.

Firefox keeps opening window after window running them across the top gray bar. I cant click out of them they load so fast, have to logoff.

How can I keep a listbox on top of a string control?

I would like to keep the listbox "on top" or "in front" of the string control. Whenever I click in the string control, though, the listbox moves behind it. I have set the order from the menu, but that seems to get overridden.

Lxterminal --command: How can I keep the window open? [SOLVED]

Hello,
I am trying to create an application launcher that will let me connect to my vpn account at start up instead of having to manually type the openvpn command each time my machine boots. I need to use sudo, but lxterminal disappears the instant it opens. I tried adding the read command as suggested here:http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=192427, but it just doesn't work.
Any suggestions? Or alternatively, is there a way for me to start the vpn connection automatically at startup, preferably without even having to enter my password?

I tried adding it to /etc/rc.local, and according to the boot up messages it works, but the boot process just stops after OpenVPN opens the tunnel. OpenVPN doesn't terminate and I think that the startup process keeps waiting for bash to exit, but bash doesn't as it keeps waiting for the OpenVPN output. In other words, my machine stops booting.
Here's what I have in rc.local:

cd /home/homefolder/.vpnkey
openvpn --config vpn.ovpn

Im trying to have a windowed document always be on top of the main Photoshop window to use it as a guide/reference image and also for extracting colors from it. I know this is possible because I have seen it in a Youtube video.

Keep Terminal window on top (in foreground)

All these years of using Terminal, and I haven't figured this out. Is there a way to keep the Terminal window(s) on top of all other windows?
Or, is there a third-party term app which will do this for me?

Here's what I'm trying to do. And I'll preface by saying that it's a 12" Powerbook without an external display. Let's say I have an O'Reilly tutorial page in Safari that I have pretty much full-screen. My Terminal window is covering the top right part of this page, and is transparent enough that I can see the web page through it. I would like to be able to scroll through the webpage, but keep the Terminal window in view, and easily mouse over to it and keep working there.
In other words, when Terminal is in focus, I can still see Safari, but when Safari is in focus, I can't see Terminal. (I know, I could make the Safari window smaller, but not all web pages will be readable that way)
Focus-follows-mouse only works for multiple Terminal windows; and you do have to mouse over the title bar of the appropriate window for it to have effect. I did find another utility, Mondo Mouse, which works for any applications, and isn't limited to mousing over the title bar (you can mouse over any part of any window to bring it into focus), but again, you do have to mouse over a visible part of the Terminal window. Meaning that I'd have to mouse all the way off the edge of the Safari screen to see my Terminal again. So it's almost the solution I need, but not quite.
I suspect that I'm just working in an inefficient way (that Aqua doesn't really support) and trying to find utilites which will work that way - it's possible that going to X11 for these Unix sessions would give me what I'm after, I guess.
I know that certain utilities have a "Stay on top" feature, but I can't work out if that's something built into the binary that I won't have access to, or if it's a windowing preference that I can somehow hack, with a "defaults write" command or some such.

How can I keep windows in front while using other apps?

I want to keep a Preview window in front of all windows while I work in photoshop, how can I do that? I know it is possible, because I saw an artist do it on youtube. He had his references opened up in Preview, while working photohsop, and the Preview window some how stays above the Photoshop window. I know I can just have them side by side by using photoshop in window mode, and shtinking it into a half sized window, but I have porblem rotating the canvas and it is just to small to work when it is like that. He mangaed to use phoshop in full window mode (fills the whole screen) and still have his preview window stay in front. I asked him but I got no reply. So I was hoping some here would know.

Yeah, I was also using Afloat before updating to Lion, but now it seems it is not compatible anymore. Mac should have that function (keep a window on top) built in - such an easy thing and so helpful, much more than all claimed "productivity" apps etc. Linux has it since always...

There used to be a plugin called Afloat that woulkd let you keep a window on top of the others but I can't get it work in 10.10 Yosemite. Is there a new version or another similar program?

Not in QT Player, but here's a nifty trick using Stickies:
Launch Applications/Stickies, create a new note, then with that note active, select "Note > Floating Window".
Now locate the QT mov you wish to view and drag/drop it on the floating Sticky note. Stickies will ask you if you want to Copy or Alias the mov- select "Alias". This will create a pointer to the original mov (smaller) instead of copying it holus bolus into the sticky. Note if you move the original mov file, you'll break the alias.
Back in the sticky, drag the grab handle in the bottom right-hand corner to resize the note so you can see all the mov and the controller bar. For some reason, Stickies will scale a mov to fit a note on the X plane (horizontal) but not the Y plane (vertical) until it's at 100% size. It won't scale up from 100%.
If the floating sticky mov is too big at 100% for your display size, there are 2 possible workarounds:
a) In Stickies, make the mov note active and select "Note > Translucent Window". This will make the note (and the mov) "see through" so you can see other stuff underneath it, even while the mov plays, or;
b) If you have a QT Pro Key, open the mov in QT Player before you drag/drop into Stickies, set it to view at half size (or whatever) then "File > Save As" allowing dependencies. This will create a small reference mov that points to the original, maintaining the smaller viewing size (again, if you move the original, you'll break the reference). Now drag/drop that reference mov into the Sticky note as above and the mov will display at the smaller size.
Hope that all makes sense. No clue how you'd do something similar on Windows.

Analog-In code pauses when I move windows around. WIN98

I was able to fix the digital in/out code with different threads which seemed to have the same problem. The problem I still have is with Analog In. I have attached a copy of the code. If someone wouldn't mind taking a peak at it to see why it freezes when I mess with the UI thread. (ie move windows.)

Not sure about this one. I get different behavior than you�re describing, but I�m running WinXP on fairly fast PC. When I first click on the title bar, I get a slight pause in the execution, but it then resumes and runs while moving the window around. I think this means there�s nothing explicitly blocking due to running in the UI thread.
One thing you might want to do is try to cut down on your use of Local and Global variables. You�ve got some pretty large and complex data structures in the Globals. Reading a Global or Local variable causes a copy of the data of the variable to be generated. This might be causing some performance problems, but I still don�t think that it should be stopping the execution. You might consider using LabVIEW 2 style Globals, sometimes called Functional Globals. The follow steps briefly describe how to make one.
A while loop that executes once, an uninitialized shift register, a case structure, two controls and an indicator.
Inside the loop create a case structure that has two states (read, write), create a control that will determine the state of the case structure and wire it to the input.
On the while loop create a shift register.
Outside the while loop place an indicator of the data type that you need the global to be. Wire the output of the shift register to your indicator.
Place a control of the same data type as your indicator in the 'write' state of your case statement, wire this to the RHS shift register.
Change to the 'read' case and wire the LHS of the shift register through the case structure to the output tunnel.
You will now have a VI that performs a global function, set-up the connector pane and try using it as a sub-vi within you application.
One thing to consider here. In your original post, you said that you used a count down timer to show that when drug and then release the window, that time/code did not continue. Are you still sure the diagram is not executing? Could it be that the front panel is not updating but the code is still running? Just a thought.

When Restore/Move/Size are clicked, the pointer just goes to the upper left corner of the screen with all combinations of clicking/dragging having no success. What causes this, and what can be done to move it back?

If a window disappear then using the system menu can make it reappear or make it possible to move that window in view. I don't know what causes it to make the window disappear in your case if it does work correctly if you start Firefox.
You can check the browser.link.open_newwindow prefs on the about:config page if you want to open all links in tabs in the current window.

That may be what is a fairly common problem of 2 devices mistakenly assigned the same address. Try shutting off all of the devices connected to your router, reboot the router and then the devices connected to it.

I've been a Fireworks user for over 10 years and just switched to Photoshop. I cannot find a setting that will enable all my file windows to reopen when I quit Photoshop. This is really a problem since I often work on several files at the same time.
Please let me know if the feature exists or point me to where I can post a message for a new feature to be implemented. The feature is a must for any designer working on large projects.

There is no such functionality. You could perhaps create a script that stores that info in a custom text file and arranges them accordingly in the workspace, but that's as good as it gets...
