Since Mavericks install, problem with gmail

Since I installed Mavericks, the only way I can get mail from google mail is to take the gmail inbox offline and then online again before any mail comes in from my gmail account.   Any ideas on what I can do to fix this?   I'm current on Maverick updates (including the Mail update).

Have you done the Mail update?

You might also try removing all gmail passwords from your keychain in Keychain Access. Then connect again and enter the password code given by Google.

Cannot slide back and forth (page to page) with the mouse since Mavericks install. Anyone else??

    Hi,
Please do not type in all caps, its considered shouting and we can hear you just fine.
I believe you are asking a question regarding Pages, I would recommend re-posting in the Pages forum. This forum is a general iMac forum, while someone may know I believe the Pages forum is a better bet.
    Good luck.

  • Yosemite Mail still has sync problems with Gmail - any solutions?

I notice that Yosemite Mail still has sync problems with Gmail. After running for some hours, I noticed there were 6 emails in my Gmail account that had not synced over the past hour.
In the meanwhile, for safety's sake (don't want to miss emails!) I'm back to Mailplane. But I wonder if anybody knows of a solution to this long term problem first introduced in Mavericks. Works fine in iOS Mail though.
    Thanks,
    doug

I don't think we'll ever have a "best of both worlds" Doug. I've used Gmail since the week it launched the first beta in 2004, and it's always been a bit of a love-hate relationship for me (mostly love). With the demise of the Google Notifier for Mac, I went with Mailplane, but even it has problems. Like when I see my iPhone update with new mail and I'm looking at Mailplane and it won't update at times with even a forced refresh. I often have to close/reopen it to see new messages. But, it's hard to live without my Google Calendar only a tab click away, one of the primary reasons I use Mailplane, that plus changing view zoom sticks with Mailplane and won't with Gmail.
For years I've thought Gmail labels were the perfect filing solution, but over the past few weeks I've been analyzing just how much I really use that feature, and for me...it's not all that much. I think I could simplify my life by putting everything into appropriate folders (as in all other email apps). Apple doesn't realize just how much money they're losing by not allowing people to use private domains with iCloud mail...which I would do in a heartbeat just because it would work perfectly with Mail.app. I would pay even more than I currently pay Google for this solution with Google Apps Business. So, I'm actually on the verge of moving my private domain to the best email service I can find and then using it with Mail.app. The problem here, of course, is I'll lose the best spam control on the planet (Gmail). So, as you say, there simply is not a "best" solution for all these things. I'll at least try a new email service first with some other domain to see how I like it before moving my primary email.
Lastly, the other thing that incenses me is synching of flags between iOS and Apple Mail. It works fine between Gmail and iOS Mail, since all I care about is whether a message is starred/flagged or not.  But using Apple Mail, when I flag a message it will not show as flagged in their own iOS Mail, which is incomprehensible, given they built both apps.
If you find a great solution or discover anything new...please post it here, Doug. Thanks.

    Welcome to the Apple community.
If you are unable to remember your password, security questions, don’t have access to your rescue address or are unable to reset your password for whatever reason, your only option is to contact Apple ID Support, upon speaking to an operator you should explain that your problem is related to your Apple ID, this way you will not be charged for assistance, even if you don’t have an AppleCare plan.
The operator will take you through some steps you may have already tried, however they need to be sure they have exhausted all usual approaches before trying to reset your account, so you should try to be helpful and show patience with the procedure.
The operator will need to verify they are speaking to the account holder and may ask you some questions that only the account holder could know, and you will need to answer them if the process is to proceed.
Once the operator has verified your identity they will send a message through to your device which contains an alpha numeric code, which you will need to read back to them.
Once this has been completed they will send an email to your iCloud email address after a period of 24 hours, so you should check that mail is enabled in your devices iCloud settings.
Upon receipt of the email, use the reset link provided to reset your password, after which you should be able to make the adjustments to iCloud that you wish to do.

Take it to your local Apple Store or AASP, it's covered by a 1 year hardware warranty. If you have AppleCare then give them a call but I'm pretty sure they will advise the same. If you have not purchased AppleCare yet please do, this will extend the warranty to 3 years however it MUST be purchased within the first  year of ownership. Let it go 366 days and you are out of luck. AppleCare will also include telephone support too.
    Good luck.

    Dear Firefox team,
I have problems with Gmail when I open it in Firefox. The button "write a letter" doesn't work. On the page it is seen as if the page is being downloaded but in fact not. As a result, I can't neither write new letters no reply to received mail.

  • Problem with gmail account on iPhone

I didn't know if anyone else is having problems with gmail or not. I have other accounts setup on iPhone, and I'm not having any problems with them. When I try to access my gmail my phone is freezing up. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=8725114&#8725114
I periodically get a freeze of either my iPhone or VZW Treo when it hangs getting Gmail. Most of the time, it works without a hitch - other times, access to Gmail is a PITA, and once in a while, it's hanging my phones up.
I've had Gmail go sideways on me a few times, buddies of mine say they're having no problems at the same time. Once in awhile, they'll call me to ask if I'm having problems (I'm not) but they can't get their messages for hours. Go figure. YMMV.

  • Problems with Gmail in Firefox version 20.0.1.

I never had any problems with Gmail before this version. Now when I want to compose a new message the compose window and home page will turn into an empty white browser window. It is titled as if it were the inbox, but there are no links or words appearing in the window. I cannot type in this window either. So I am unable to send email from my desktop.
Also, I can only read new messages. When I try to read older messages I'd saved for information purposes, I can no longer open those.

Google has been tinkering with the design of Gmail lately, which raises the possibility that Firefox may be mismatching old cached files with new ones, or sending the site cookies that correspond to an older design.
When you have a problem with one particular site, a good "first thing to try" is clearing your Firefox cache and deleting your saved cookies for the site.
    (1) Bypass Firefox's Cache
Use Ctrl+Shift+r to reload the page fresh from the server.
Alternately, you also can clear Firefox's cache completely using:
orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced
On the Network mini-tab > Cached Web Content : "Clear Now"
If you have a large hard drive, this might take a few minutes.
    (2) Remove your google.com cookies (save any pending work first). While viewing a page on the site:
    * right-click and choose View Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
    * Alt+t (open the classic Tools menu) > Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
That will open a dialog where you can remove the individual cookies.
Then try reloading the page and logging in again. Does that help?

  • Problems with iTunes Sync Since Mavericks Install

    MacBook Air, 2011, 4GB, 1.7 GHz, 256GB Drive
Early this week I installed Mavericks (no problem).  System Update also updated iTunes and iOS 7 on my various mobile devices.
Now, every other time (more or less) I connect my iphone or ipad for syncs, i get the following symptoms:
    - Fans start to run at high speed, with SMC temperature indicator shooting to 200
    - Activity Monitor confirms that the energy hog is iTunes
    - Battery runs down quickly and visibly
    - iTines then syncs everything, i.e. re-dowloads to my mobile devices all the music and >3000 pictures.
Went to the Apple story and, in the typical Apple answer, they said we haven't heard of the problem.  Of course, I could not replicate it in fron of them.
Is this a known problem? Any hints?

Go to Add/Remove Software or Manage Applications (Whatever they changed it to in Vista/7/8) Find and remove iTunes and iTunes Mobile Device support. Better yet follow this:

    Vista/7/8: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1923

  • Problem with Gmail "unread mail" in OSX mavericks

Since updating to OSX Mavericks (and I installed all available upgrades/patches as they came out) I have had a problem with getting my Gmail to sync across various devices. I have a macbook air as well as the iMac, ipad and iphone. The problem is that with the two computers, emails received to my gmail account will appear "unread" even if I have previously accessed them on a different computer or device. It is as if Apple Mail is no longer able to differentiate from the Gmail server which emails I have opened and which I have not yet read, and I come home to an inbox full of dozens of messages I have already read and deleted that are sitting in my inbox again so I have to double-delete them. I cannot figure out which setting I need to change in order to correct this - I have never had a problem with this before upgrading the operating system and do not have "leave an unread copy on the server" or some similar setting activated in gmail, to my knowledge. The recenly released mail fix did not help.
thanks in advance for your advice.

  • Gmail not working right since Mavericks install, even after 10.9.1 upgrade

I use Apple mail. Comcast, which is POP, is my internet provider. In order to use IMAP capability I forward my email to my Gmail acct. All worked flawlessly until Mavericks came along. Even after the 10.9.1 upgrade
    Here are my issues:
    (1) draft emails are copied every minute so I get multiple drafts like this:
    Hello
    Hello John
    Hello John, how
    Hello John, how are you?
    (2) If I send myself an email to test how my email is working if I delete the received email from the inbox it deletes itself from the sent box. If I delete the email from the sent box it deletes the email in the inbox.....
    (3) and nothing is being saved on the Gmail server although my settings indicated "never" remove the email.
Any thoughts? It's drviing me crazy & I'm afraid I'm going to lose valuable emails....
    Thanks in advance....
    Jim

I decided to test Mavericks Mail with a new Gmail account today to see what the new default settings in Mail works with Gmail. It seems that all the workarounds we used prior to Mavericks are no longer needed. No root folder required. No prefix [Gmail]/ for folders.
I no longer had to use "Use this folder for Drafts, Sent, Junk, Trash". When I delete a message it actually goes to Trash not to All Mail. Yipeee!
Be sure to select All Mail folder.

  • Mavericks Mail sync with Gmail - lost folders

I use gmail as my main email provider. I have had this syncronised to my MacBookPro, iPad and iPhone for a few years. It worked smothly. Whenever I created, modified or moved mail folders in the Mail app it was replicated in gmail.
I recently updated my Mac to Mavericks and continued using mail as normal. Last night I decided to reorder my Mail folders to put the folders I access the most higher up the list.
On doing this I lost ALL of my emails from EVERY folder, inluding the inbox. I was mortified. That was years of filed emails gone. I think they were moved to a trash folder (so they still exist, but mixed in with trash).
I have since read that this is a fault with Mavericks.
I really need to restore the emails to the folders they were in. Some of the emails were very important.
Can anyone advise how I can get these emails back to the folders they came from?
    Hope you can help

I am running "Mavericks" 10.9.5 on a new MacBook Pro, but I've had a similar problem with earlier computers and versions of the OS (10.8.x): Some of my emails that I keep stored on folders in my GMAIL mailbox appear scrambled in "Mail". The Header and subject line showing up in the preview pane (Message list) belong to one message, but the first two lines in the same pane belong to a totally different email (from a different sender). When I click on that message, I find that the whole message that is being displayed is from that other sender - header, subject line, "From" fields and body. No trace of the mail that should belong to the header and subject line in the preview pane! An example is shown at the bottom - the text starting with "Save $50..." is from a completely different sender and has nothing to do with "SAIL Magazine" - and the "SAIL Magazine" email is nowhere to be found. If I go to GMAIL's web interface, I can find BOTH messages without problem. (In case this is a useful hint: GMAIL in its infinite wisdom decided to NOT mark those particular 2 emails as "important" - shown by a yellow flag in the web interface for several OTHER emails). I should say that my setup is to use IMAP (imap.gmail.com), and all my folders are replicated on any of the several devices I use (two different Macs and iPhone) as well as on the web interface. Surprisingly, the specific problem shown below exists ONLY on my new MacBook Pro with Mavericks - both my other Macbook and my iPhone show both emails normally - but I had similar mess-ups on my other Mac as well. So it looks like that somehow MAIL and GMAIL still do not work properly together with IMAP - I would have thought this problem would be widely known and would have been fixed by Apple eventually? Anyway, any hints on how to fix this glitch would be much appreciated!  - Seb

  • Maverick causing problems with mission control

    hi,
I have a early 2013 Mac book pro. I just upgraded to Maverick and I have been facing issues with mission control. When I swipe fingers up on touchpad to open Mission control, occasionally it lags. Basically the lagging is prevelant with swipe and pinch gestures on touchpad, the transitions are not smooth. Please help me fix it.
    Thanks in advance,
    Kritarth

I'm not sure that what I'm seeing is this same problem, but it's similar. And worse.
I have a MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch,Early 2013), and several times since I installed Mavericks both Mission Control and 4-finger swiping have stopped working completely. A restart always fixes them. They both fail at the same time--either both work completely, or both don't work at all.
I'm guessing there's a lurking Mavericks bug, somewhere.

  • Apple Mail locks up since Maverick install

Has anyone else experienced Apple Mail failure since Maverick OS X?   It comes up and is deadly slow... often freezing.  I have had to download Thunderbird as an alternative until this problem is fixed.
If anyone knows a solution or workaround, would be most appreciated.

See if deleting the cache associated with Mail helps ..
Quit the Mail app if it's open.
Open the Finder. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy paste the following:
    ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.mail/Data/Library/Caches/com.apple.mail/Cache.db
Click Go then move the Cache.db file to the Trash.
    Try Mail.
