Since my upgrade to 10.6.8 my ethernet port states "Cable unplugged"
Everything was fine with osx 10.6.7 but now i have upgraded to 10.6.8 the iMac ethernet port has reported Cable Unplugged. the Airport is fine.
I also tried to update to Lion and this has not improved the situation as most of my other hardware is not supported.
I have read many web bloggs on here about others having the same issue but no one has resolved the issue.
before I spen my next day downgrading to 10.6.7 again does anyone have a fix
I have also installed the 10.6.8 supp update but this made no dofferance

I have tried so many things, cleared PRM, started from a blank OS10.6.4, reapplied the Combo 10.6.8 1.1 update, deleted the ethernet port re-added it. all no joy upgraged to Lion and still have the issue.
I am staying with 10.6.8 but over wiseless at the mo' just because I do not have any large data to transfer and my 300mb connection via Aiport is keeping up with day to day stuff.
Come on apple sorh this out, these sort of issue I expect from Windows pc where the hardware can be from many manufacturers but this is all Apple to quote Steve Jobs, .......it just works....... well let me tell you it does not!!!!

I use a samsung TV for my monitor via HDMI.Tried all the system Audi setting nothing .Head phone and internal speakers are fine.Similar issue; Audio was working fine on Lion, now not on Mountain Lion. Have a Macbook Pro early 2011 with AMD Radeon HD 6750M, connected by thunderbolt through a Lacie LBD to a mini-displayport to HDMI adapter (n.b. same problem when not going through the LBD) to a Pioneer VSX 521 AV receiver. For me when I go into audio Midi settings all the volume sliders for the displayport device are greyed out and at zero. But when I click 'configure speakers', it's able to send out the test signals to each speaker. Part of the problem could be that I'm not getting the option to put out 6channel sound, only 2 or 8 channel. Since my system is Dolby 5.1, and I only have 6 speakers, I would have expected the 6ch option to be available. But I imagine there's more to it than that. Elsewhere someone has suggested playing with Remote Interactive over HD on an Onkyo device; I'll see if there's something similar on the Pioneer that can be changed. Any other suggestions welcome.

After upgrade to 10.4 thumbdrives/cdrom/ethernet port do not work
so after upgrading a powerbook from 10.2 to 10.4 thumbdrives don't automatically mount and cdroms don't show either..
I can go through disk utility and mount the thumbdrive manually .. but then when I take it out and put it back in it does not work ..
in the finder menu preferences .. i have select to show all items in on the desktop ..
is this some kind of library or permissions issue
powerbook g4 Mac OS X (10.4)I tried this after a nudge from Carolyn Samit.
It was a bit trickier than that: I had to delete the current icon in the Dock and then move the Address Book app OUT of the Applications Folder and then it opened. Then I put it back and all is well.
I have since discovered all sorts of "gray" .apps (like PhotoBooth.app) that won't open through the Applications folder. But it will open from the icon in the dock. Hmmmm. Is this a Library thing?

How can I get a Mac laptop on the Internet to upgrade it from OS 9.1 to OS X? it only has a CD-ROM drive..... no USB port or cat 5 port.

the problem I have since I upgraded to Mavericks version 10.9.1
The problem appears only with Mail not with other programs, not even with my browser.
When I try to zoom the text of an e-mail I received or sent , I can no longer use the keys Command + to enlarge the text, although I can reduce it with Command -.
As I have a problem with my eyes, This is a serious matter for me.
When I write an e-mail, if I select text and press Command +, it just displaces the text to the right.
Now, my husband has a USB keyboard. If he connects it to my computer, his regular Command + does not work either, but he uses the extended keyboard, then it works. Unfortunately, he needs it for a musical application which does not work with a wireless keyboard.Firefox 3.6.4 and 3.6.6 use a process called, "plugin-container.exe" which was using up most of my CPU when I opened up multiple tabs that contained Adobe Flash files, and caused Firefox to lock up.
My solution was to use Firefox 3.5.10 which you can get from the Mozilla website at [http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html]
I am using Adobe Flash 10.1.53.64 without any problem in this version of Firefox. Check the release notes, I believe it contains all the latest security fixes in "Firefox 3.6.4".
Hopefully, they will fix Firefox 3.6 in the next version (e.g. Firefox 3.6.7), until then you should probably use "Firefox 3.5.10". -

IPod no longer mounts since Leopard upgrade
My iPod no longer mounts since I upgraded to Leopard. I'm using a USB 2 port that's part of a third party PCI card I installed myself. Used to work fine before the Mac OS upgrade.
If I reboot with the iPod already plugged in, it mounts.
Help?Forgot to mention that I had tried those:
Authorize your purchases from an administrator account
-> Yep, I'm the admin
Authorize using the correct account name
-> Nothing changed- I am only authorizing my devices, and only use my account on the machine. Definitely using the right account name.
Turn Off User Account Controls (Windows Vista and Windows 7 Only)
-> Did this a long, long time ago, so definitely not the issue.
Remove the SC Info folder
-> This was the only new thing that I had seen yesterday when I tried it, and went through these steps, to no avail. Still exactly the same problem. I closed iTunes, deleted the folder, rebooted and relaunched iTunes and synced the device. Same thing.
The problem is the computer IS authorized, and I can sync one device, but not the other. No problem with iPhone 4- just iPod Touch, 3rd gen. It seems to be in a weird state.
One thing would lead me to believe it's a PC/iTunes problem, but then it is only with one device and not the other. Hard to point to the root of the problem. I just don't want to lose the data on the iPod- I've done a lot of work on it.

Thanks for responding. Since I upgraded ITUNES to IOS 6, my IPOD Touch no longer works at all. I had numerous apps, music and videos on this touch. It made me restore to factory reset and it still does not work!!! Nothing I do will work on this touch now. I have so much data on this, I don't want to loose or have to restore!

Thanks for the question. I understand that you are experiencing issues with your printer/scanner after updating to OS X Yosemite. To troubleshoot this issue check out the following:

Follow these steps until the issue is addressed:
1. Make sure that the printer is powered on, has ink / toner, and that there are no alerts on the printer’s control panel. Note: If you cannot clear an alert on the printer's control panel, stop here and check the printer's documentation or contact the manufacturer for support.
2. Ensure the printer is properly connected to a USB port on the Mac or AirPort base station / Time Capsule. If the printer is a network-capable printer, make sure that it is properly connected to your home network.

4. Open the Print & Scan pane or Print & Fax (Snow Leopard) pane in System Preferences.

Ever since I upgraded my iPhone 4 to Version 5, all the new apps that I try to download keeps saying "waiting" on my phone... It won't open or download! Only the old apps that I already had before I upgraded my phone works. Please help!!!
Try resetting the iPhone.
Hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home button down at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

If that doesn't help tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings -
Difficulty downloading apps since ios7 upgrade... Help ?
Since the upgrade to ios7 I cannot download apps immediately. Message tells me app cannot be downloaded ..try later . I have to keep going back and eventually it downloads. It's taking longer and longer and I am worried it might stop completely. Have tried resetting but no go there. Any help would be appreciated.

When attempting to login to a GlasPac (auto glass) website, it requires an F5 Plugin to be installed. This has been working in the past using Firefox 3.x.x and now since I upgraded to Firefox 4.0.1 it says the plugin in not compatibable with Firefox 4 and will not load it so I am dead in the water !!!!!!! The FF 4.0 upgrade has caused this serious situation ... what needs to be done to rectify it ???
