I'm having this same error tonight on my MBP 13 inch Mid 2009 running 10.9.2. I was also upgrading my sister's MBP 15 inch after a fresh install of 10.9.1 and after doing the 10.9.3 Combined updater. I was beginning to wonder if my rural wireless ISP had implemented some firewall setting that was causing this.
I connected to my office Mac mini server and it's doing the same thing.
I guess we have to wait for Apple to fix this.

I found the answer by looking over towards the right on this page...to the More Like This section.
The answer is that this indicates a server overload with Apple's App Store server.  Give it some time and try again.
Here's the link where this was discussed:

I have a Macbook pro 13" A1278. I purchased it around december 2010. I have a HHD 3.5" drive desktop select II 1.5TB. I purchased it around Febuary/March 2011 to use with my Macbook pro. I formatted it and moved all my files to there, I got it so my macbook's hard drive wouldn't brake and I lose everything on my macbook.
    Is there any fixes?

First, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until the screen blacks out or you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."

    Hi again OGELTHORPE.
I've already run two hardware tests. One quick one and one extended one. It was unable to pick anything up.
It's like everything is running perfectly, but when I go to erase the HDD or partition it, it pops up with the error message. Even when I try to erase and partition using "Terminal", I received the same error message.
It's beginning to do my head in, but will see if replacing the SATA cable will make any difference. If it doesn't, I'll hazard a guess it could be the Logic Board.
    Thanks again for your suggestions!

  • An error occured The operation couldn't be completed.

Wil trying to update a MacBook Air, I get message: An error occured The operation couldn't be completed. (NSURLErrorDomain error - 1100.) [OK]

That error may result from connecting to a wireless wide-area network (WWAN) via a phone or mobile hotspot. If that's what you're doing, try another network. Sometimes one WWAN will work when another doesn't.

  • Error while consolidating (The operation couldn't be completed. Permission denied)

I have just bought a new MacBook and that has given me extra harddrive space, and now I am trying to consolidate some masters in Aperture, that I have on my Time Capsule. But I get this error:
Error while consolidating (The operation couldn’t be completed. Permission denied)
I can access my Time Capsule in Finder perfectly well. Can anyone help?

I think that error was due to the fact that I hadn't upgraded MAC OSX after installing it. I have done that now and now I get another error saying the masters are offline.
I found this old thread: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/1965601?start=0&tstart=0 which seems to be the same problem. This is a whole other topic so I will start a new thread, but leave this in case anyone gets the same problem as me. Upgrade your OSX. That's the solution :-)

Not really. Never used Facebook. I'm perfectly content without social media.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you boot, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, reboot as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

Getting this message when I try to update  The operation couldn’t be completed. (NSURLErrorDomain error -1100.)

There are many people suffering from this problem right now (including me). It appears to be a server issue. Just wait and try checking for updates again tomorrow.
Some things I have heard indicate that this may be a regional problem, though what parts of the world are affected I don't know yet. A few people have been helped by deleting the following preference file (paste the path into the Go -> Go to Folder window in the Finder to locate it), though most have not:
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.plist
