Since updated to CC 2014.1 - 6k Red .R3D files appear black when paused

I have a project that was started in the previous version of CC and now we've updated to CC 2014.1 (latest version). I noticed that since the update, when there is a Red .R3D file in the source monitor, it will go black after a few seconds (when the full resolution image would have appeared). I'm viewing the quality in 1/16th. When I scrub or play I can see the footage fine. It is only when I pause that the window soon turns black. If the playhead is over a red .r3d file in the sequence, the same thing will happen. Also, I can't play full resolution either - it will remain totally black.
When I turn off Mercury Playback Engine GPU Acceleration and choose Software Only in the project settings, this problem goes away. However I don't prefer to work that way because other things seem significantly slower.
The video card in this machine is the ATI Radeon HD 5770 - EFI Driver Version: 01.00.436
Any ideas? This is on a Mac Pro (Mid 2010) with latest version of Mavericks.

"This kind of issue…" refers to what? File based camera formats like AVCHD, etc.? As Neil says, there are lots of things that can go wrong with these kinds of formats. Chief among them is not ingesting them correctly, via the Media Browser not File > Import.

I don't believe I know of any one company creating complex software that doesn't need a larger support staff. We do the best we can with what we are given. Of course, I have no control over how many support agents we have on the phones or on chat. I'm lucky now that I have a couple of agents dedicated to the forums, so you should see this situation improving.

    The After Effects team are investigating a bug in After Effects CC 2104 (13.0) where RED (.R3D) files are very slow and the image resolution is poor, about 1/8 sampling.
    The following workaround has been reported to solve the problems in some cases:
    Save the project.
    Choose Edit > Purge > All Memory & Disk Cache.

    I am having problems syncing my apple tv to my macbook since updating the appletv software today. I downloaded the itunes update too-and now it won't appear in the devices list.
    The WiFi connection is fine, and I can download trailers etc- but can I sync it? Can I 'eck as like.

  • Lightroom 4.4 Download Problem(s).  Since updating I have been unable to download RAW files

    Since updating to LR 4.4, I have been unable to download RAW file formats.  In addition, normal .jpg files stopped working today!  I can successfully still download into LR 3.6 which I kept on my system. 
    I'm shooting with a Canon 1D Mark X and using LR on an iMac.   This is making workflow impossible.  Any help is greatly appreciated!!!

    A couple of tests:
    1. Create a Dummy User account with full Admin Read/Write permissions. Does that fix it?
    2. Make certain your active User account has full Read/Write permissions for the storage location of both: The Catalog, and The Image Files.

  • RED R3D files "unsupported" after project save

    Suddenly, yesterday, my R3D files from our RED cam are unusable / unsupported after project file save. Opening and existing project and prior to saving the RED files work fine. Importing RED is also "unsupported" after saving the modified project file. Closed the project to test importing into a blank project, still no dice. Restarted AE and still can't import. Only thing I haven't tried yet is restarting and importing into a blank project.
    So the only way I've been able to work with my RED footage is to open the project file that previously had them imported before this issue and not to save. Once I save the unsupported errors show up. None of the RED footage is corrupted.
    I'm currently moving one of the clips to a direct attached drive to rule out our NAS. I'll update soon.
    I've been using RED in CS6 and CC without problem for many, many months (possibly years, I lose track of time in my cage)
    RED footage is from an EPIC Mysterium and in a format we've used many many times
    29.97, 5K (5120 x 2700), REDcode 5:1, no HDR, Firmware 3.2.21 (48926)
    After Effects 12.2.1.5
    Mac 5,1 running 10.8.5
    NVIDIA k5000
    Synology NAS (slow for RED work but reliable and cheap)

    This was a while ago, but I think I went into REDCINE-X Pro at the time and clicked all the "D" buttons to set the metadata back to it's defaults. If that doesn't work, maybe try deleting the RMD file which contains metadata modifications. Also, notice that at the bottom of my post I indicated that the newer version of the software made resolved that problem, so try using newer software to open the media file which, I think, updates the RMD file and allows AE to use the R3D file.

  • Illustrator File Previews are gone Since updating to CC 2014

    I know that this has been a problem with previous versions of Illustrator as well, but I am still unsure if there is any fix that I can do on my end or not. I use to be able to preview all of my .ai files with Windows Explorer in Windows 7 Pro 64-bit, but since the CC 2014 update I have no previews at all. I know that I can preview files in Bridge, but that really doesn't fit my needs. I do over 3,000 jobs a year dating back 10+ years so searching for previous jobs with no preview is now a pain.
    Does anyone know of a fix, or do I have to wait forever for an Adobe update of some sort? Anyone else having this problem?

    So I'm the only person this has affected?

    I updated iTunes this morning and now my iphone, ipad do not appear in iTunes. 
    I tried unplugging the usb cable and but it still does not work.  I tried powering off my iphone but it does not connect.
    my husband has the same problem with his ipad with his pc.  He did the same update this morning.
    Anybody has an idea?

    I had the same problem and tried some of the fixes describing Apple Mobile Devise settings etc. it didn't work.
    What did work was uninstall iTunes and othe various Apple apps and then reinstall with the latest version of iTunes from Apple. All my playlist, music, setting remained intact and it works like a charm.

  • Since updating my firefox I am unable to attach files to my email.

    We are using mobileme and always have been. It will work if I open mobileme in internet explorer but not with Firefox.

    Try this  - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)

  • Since updating to 18.0 for mac, my scrollbar has been distorting when scrolling; started ~2 days after updating.

    The odd thing is that it is an on and off issue, meaning that sometimes the scrollbar distorts when scrolling, and sometimes it doesn't, and it started doing this about 2 days after updating. It didn't start immediately, which I find kind of odd. Is this just a graphical glitch? I'm pretty sure it is. I'm using Snow Leopard 10.6.3.

  • Ever since updating to FF 4.0.1, a pop up appears every hour or so. "Want more options? Right-click the app". How do I get rid of it?

    Further text from pop-up: "Yes, send me instant notifications from my apps." and "By clicking Finish, you agree to our End User License Agreement and Privacy Policy." Options are a button 'Finish' and a link 'Abort Installation'. I click abort installation, but it just comes back a short while later. I assume this is an extension or plug-in asking for installation, but it does not identify itself with a name. Whatever it is, I can't figure out how to get it to stop harassing me several times a day. Any help would be appreciated.

    You can start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

  • Since updating to FF4 my bookmarks have dissappeared from the sidebar. When going to 'Show all bookmarks' there is only a recent one! However they are all listed in the dropdown. Saving only save the single one. Restoring a saved file makes no difference.

    On the previous version of FF the All-in-One side bar showed my Bookmarks OK. Upgrading to FF4 has lost them all, except a recent one, from the sidebar. However they are available from the drop-down via the Firefox button at top left. Then when I go to 'show all bookmarks' the only one shown is the recent one. Saving the bookmarks results in that single one being saved only! Deleting all the bookmarks and re-installing a backup results in the same happening, they list ok on the dropdown but not in the side bar. Any ideas?

    This can be caused by a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.

  • I tried to download the updated version and got vast loads of AAM files appearing on the top of my Firefox browser. Why?

    I recently changed from Chrome to Firefox as I no longer trust anything to do with Google.  Anyway, I hoped the change would allow me to download the version of Muse with the In-Browser Edit facility.  I entered Adobe Muse 2014 into the browser search and signed in to Adobe CC.  I was a little surprised not to see the Muse icon up front and centre; eventually I located it and watched the intro video before hitting download.  Immediately a continous stream of aam files began to stream along the stop of the browser. For a start I am not familiar with aam files and I don't know why Firefox would run the files along the top of the browser.  Is the updated version of Muse actually downloading?  After half an hour I got suspicious and clicked stop.  Any ideas what's going on?

    I can't speak to the behavior of Firefox. I only use it infrequently and the behavior you're seeing may be dependent on your configuration (i.e. the plug-ins you have installed in Firefox). However, I can explain the Muse installation process.
    Starting with the Adobe Muse CC 2014 release Muse now uses the same installer technology and installation process as all other Adobe applications available as part of Creative Cloud. When any Creative Cloud application is installed, step one is the installation of the Creative Cloud desktop application (if it's not already installed and up-to-date). CC desktop manages the installation of Adobe application along with many other cloud features (i.e. access to cloud storage, folder sync, access to fonts, access to community and marketplace, etc.). Adobe Application Manager (AAM) is a subcomponent of the CC desktop application and thus part of the installation of CC desktop.
    This process is the same whether you're using the free level of Creative Cloud, are using a trial of a Creative Cloud app, have a Creative Cloud Single App subscription for just Muse or are a full Creative Cloud subscriber.

    Close it before quitting the programs or turn that option off from the General pane of System Preferences.
