Since updating the software on my iPhone 3gs it has developed the so called "white screen of death". The phone has not been dropped or damaged in anyway, the problem only developed after software upgrade. Rung apple and they were less than helpful

I have tried the solution which seems to pop up most of holding down the power button and the home button for 10 seconds but this hasnt helped at all. Tried ringing apple, who were less than helpful and disinterested as the phone is out of warranty. I am hoping there is a solution which doesnt mean shelling out for a new phone! any ideas?
Basics from the manual are restart, reset, restore.
Try all of these.
If these fail, then:

If you have not done a factory reset on the device, I recommend doing a complete factory reset.
Factory Reset - Warning this will reset device back to original factory settings.
This method will not erase any MDN/MIN information
Turn off the phone
Press Power + Volume Up/Down at the same time and hold until display will show a triage android screen
Display will show:
Reboot system Now
Apply sdcard:update.zip
Wipe Data/Factory Reset
Wipe Cache Partition
Use VOL Down key to scroll down to "Wipe Data/Factory Reset", press home icon to select option and wipe device.
Display shows "All user data will be wiped out", press VOLUME Up to continue or VOLUME Down to exit.
Press Volume Up
Press Home to select "Reset System Now" - device will reboot
If the problem persist I recommend having a store technician take a look at the device.

I have one of the speaker failed on iPhone 3GS. How do I get this repaired under warranty. My phone is just 45 days old.
As tonefox says, all iphones have ony one speaker on the bottom.
This is clearly illustrated in the manual. -
My iPad has not been dropped or damaged at all. The screen is grey fuzzy and has coloured lines down the middle. iPad 3 also.

I have the white screen of death, but am able to get into OS X utilitites. I have verifed disk and it's ok. I am trying to reinstall mavericks, but i don't have enough disk space. Dilemma is i can't get onto computer to delete files to create space.

Go to the App Store and check out the Purchases List. If iPhoto is there then it will be v9.6.1
If it is there, then drag your existing iPhoto app (not the library, just the app) to the trash
Install the App from the App Store.
Sometimes iPhoto is not visible on the Purchases List. it may be hidden. See this article for details on how to unhide it.

One question often asked: Will I lose my Photos if I reinstall?
iPhoto the application and the iPhoto Library are two different parts of the iPhoto programme. So, reinstalling the app should not affect the Library. BUT you should always have a back up before doing this kind of work. Always. -
A few tears ago my Dad bought the ipod 3rd generation. He made an apple id on there and answered the securtiy questions with no problem. Then he gave the ipod to me. I downloaded music on it. Then last year i got my iphone and i didnt want to make a new apple id because i wanted to keep my music. So then all was fine. Then over the summer the off button on my phone wasnt working, so i went to apple and got my phone replaced. They put the card from my old phone into the new one. Now I have my own apple id. Now, every time I try to buy music or an app, it asks me for my security questions. They're questions that i never answered with my apple id, theyre the same questions my dad answered with his broken apple id, which he doesnt know the answers to either. Every time I call apple its no help and I have a lot money just sitting there in my account. PLEASE!!! IS THERE ANY WAY TO CHANGE THE DUMB SECURIY QUESTIONS?!?!?!?!?!?

I just purchased Ipad2 64GB + 3G. It does not stae on the box, whether this is for AT&T or Verizon. I called Apple, and was told that it is not "carrier specific." Was told that I should return, and get one that is set up for one or the other. Are there any advantages to not having a specific carrier? If I keep this one, how do I get 3G service, will it be offered directly from the Ipad like with the carrier specific ones? These are all questions Apple couldn't or wouldn't answer for me. Whoever you spoke to was wrong or misunderstood the question. The iPad is most definitely carrier-specific when it comes to Verizon vs. AT&T. The Verizon model is specific to the CDMA network Verizon uses, and will work with only Verizon. The AT&T model is a GSM, technology used by many carriers around the world, so in that sense the "AT&T" model is not carrier-specific. A Verizon model will not work with AT&T and vice-versa, so you do need to have the iPad model for the carrier you wish to use.
I believe the Verizon model will say either "Verizon" or "CDMA" on the box, so if yours doesn't, you probably have the GSM/AT&T model, but I'm not certain. Perhaps someone else here can confirm.

Help. Need to reinstall Adobe Photoshop Elements 12 and Premier Elements 12. Both are pre paid programs that I had on computer, however the system needed to be reset via recovery and these programs were erased> Since I already forked out the cash for these I'd like to be using them as I am an artist and need the programs. For Christmas 2012 my son bought me my first iPad when up in Scotland on business. So from 25th December until last Tuesday evening, September 3rd, this had worked fine and was my pride and joy. It's an amazing piece of technology.
Imagine my horror and annoyance when I went to use it on the Tuesday evening only to find that it would not start up. All the usual buttons were pressed and I plugged it in to a power source then into iTunes and saw no no change.
On Wednesday morning I went into the Apple shop in Harrogate, where JCL (salesman) tried all of the same things as I had and declared that he had never seen this happen to an iPad! My only course of action was to send it back to Apple who would tell me it's dead and advise me to buy a new one. [This, as it is welded together and they have no means of repairing them!!] So what can I do? I had to buy a new one, which cost me £399.
Is this good value for money under the Sale of Goods Act? An iPad should surely last more than 20 months? The device has never been dropped and is in very good condition other than it does not work.
I would appreciate any views on this.

Under UK law these are the relevant regulations

Supply of Goods (Implied Terms) Act 1973
Supply of Goods and Services Act 1982
The Sale and Supply of Goods to Consumers Regulations 2002
These are considered to be in compliance with the directive in most respects and in some respects exceed the minimum directive definitions.
The Directive itself adds very little and in some ways actually reduces the consumer (buyers) rights compared to UK laws and regulations.
The directive sets a maximum period of just two years for which the seller may be held responsible for repairing/replacing pre-existing faults and a period of just two months from identifying the fault and reporting it to the seller.
As stated above UK law allows a period of 5 years in Scotland and 6 years in the UK and doesn’t have a defined period of identification or reporting of that pre-existing fault
The UK law also incorporates a minimum period of 6 months of unlimited warranty (Extended to 12 month by most sellers including Apple).
There is NO provision for unlimited warranty within the EU directive, and all faults are assumed to be pre-existing.
Pre-existing is very important in all these claims as in UK law it fixes the timeline of the fault using the three definitions in the previous post as being present at the start of the contract (Time of purchase)
Hence the need for an expert report ! -
White screen of death after 3 mins of usage
Hiyah, so my iphone got the so called "White screen of death" after 3 minutes of usage, i've tried restore and all of that but without success.
What should i do?
Send it in for repair? (seems really ridicilous if have to since it was bought the same day)
or
Take it back to the store where i bought it and ask for a new one?

1. Reset: Press the sleep/wake button & home button at the same time, keep pressing until you see the apple logo, then release. Ignore the slide to power off.
If no change, continue:
2. Restore your phone from your most recent backup, Note, however: if the problem is related to corrupt data in your phone's backup, while this will restore a fresh OS, it will also restore the problem.
If no change, continue:
3. Restore as a "new" phone in itunes & re-sync your content. All saved data will be lost.
If no change, make an appointment at an Apple store, as you most likely have a hardware problem. There are no more user troubleshooting steps available. -
Since Upgrading the software on my Iphone 3GS to the iOS5, I have not been able to back up my on my laptop, it starts syncing then kicks me out.
I have uninstalled my internet security and that is not the problem (so re-installed)
I have updated the Windows XP to service Pack 3
I have un installed and re installed iTunes as well
And none of this has worked!
I was going to upgrade my phone to the iPhone 4S but dont feel i can now as worried it wont sync.
Please can anyone help me as this is rather frustrating now!

I tried to update the software of my iphone 3gs while charging with my Macbook Pro. While the phone was restarting after installation, in the setting up my phone menu, it stops midway with a message in itunes on the laptop that there is no simcard.
Then put a SIM in. You cannot activate an iPhone without a compatible Sim.
If your iPhone was hacked/jailbroken the update restore the lock. -

Macintosh HD > Library > Audio > MIDI Drivers
Then delete DigiDioMidiDriver.plugin
