Since upgrading to Firefox 4.0 I keep getting the error message "THERE WAS APROBLEM SENDING THE COMMAND TO THE PROGRAM", please can you advise how I get it to stop?
I have just upgraded to Firefox 4.0 and ever since then I get this message when I try to go to either Yahoo or Gmail
"THERE WAS A PROBLEM SENDING THE COMMAND TO THE PROGRAM",
I had this problem a month or so ago so downgraded to Firefox 3.6 and the problem went away but have now been advised to upgrade which indeed I have and hey presto the error message again, please how can I fix it??
OK, you seem to be running Zone Alarm as your firewall. It includes a utility which checks to see whether a site is safe or not and also adds a plugin to Firefox which is listed as '''npFFApi'''. Can you disable that and see if it makes any difference?
To get to the plugins manager, click the orange Firefox button, then click "Add-ons". In the page that opens, click the "Plugins" link on the left which will open the menu. Then find '''npFFApi '''and click the "''Disable''" button.

Security software on your computer/router is the usual cause of this. Turn off/disable or uninstall all anti-virus software & firewalls. Try again.

since installing Lion I keep getting the error message 'there was a problem connecting to the server. URLs with the type 'file:" are not supported"' How can I fix this?

Not a nice answer!
Posting "Check the 'More like this'" area and not simply providing the answer is a great way to make these groups worthless.
You're ignoring context. On the old Apple Discussion Groups I never posted replies like that, instead giving people relatively detailed answers. The new Apple Support Communities made things worse by introducing certain inefficiencies. Then came Lion. The flood of messages that came with Lion required a painful choice for any of the people who had been helping here: (1) Give quality responses to a few questions and ignore the rest. (2) When applicable, give a brief answer such as the one that you found objectionable. (3) Give up all the other normal activities of life and spend full time trying to answer questions here.
People who needed help with Lion problems seemed to have trouble discovering existing message threads that described how to solve their problems. I never posted the suggestion of "Check the 'More like this' area" without verifying that the help that the poster needed could be found there. Even doing that, what I posted saved me time that I could use to help someone else.
The people helping here are all volunteers. None of them is being paid for the time they spend here. They all have a life outside of Apple Support Communities. It's arrogant of you to demand that people helping here spend more time than they already do. -
I upgraded to Lion yesterday. Now I keep getting and error message: there was a problem connecting to the server. URLs with type "file:" are not supported. What server? How do I get rid of this.

This is asked and answered many times each day. The forum search bar is on the right side of this page.
Disable your firewall/security software and try again. -
I am trying to update my iPod touch & keep getting this error message: There was a problem downloading the software for the iPod. The network connection timed out. Make sure your network settings are correct and your network connection is active. Help!
Temporarily disable or turn off your Firewall and Anti-Virus software and try the download again.

I have an iMac G4 with AirPort with OS 10.4.11 installed. I keep getting an error message "There was an error joining the AirPort network "ATT5216." I called ATT U-verse - they were stumped. Any suggestions?
I checked for the IP address, and I'm not pulling one
up.
That's the problem. Even with no base stations available you should eventually within a few minutes get a self-assigned IP of 169.x.x.x!
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106659
Maybe you could manually configure an IP but that doesn't answer what's wrong. How about a simple test - create a new Location in Network System Preferences and see if that helps. If it doesn't then maybe a re-install of Airport or System software would help. If the Airport shows up as an available network port then the card is probably OK. -
I keep getting an error message saying my network connection has timed out when I try to download the iphone 5 software to my iphone 4 while it's connected to my laptop. Then it says make sure your network settings are correct and your network connection is active. The download gets all the way to the end (takes about an hour mind you), and keeps timing out. It's error 3259. FYI, I have the latest version of iTunes.
Security software on your computer/router is the usual cause of this. Turn off/disable or uninstall all anti-virus software & firewalls. Try again.

I keep getting an error messahe that says
There was a problem connecting to the server. URLs with type "file" are not supported
Any ideas?Actually, in my case, turning off Time Machine didn't work. I had the same problem. We definitely traced it to Time Machine. The "Fix" was this: plugged in and designated different external HD as Backup volume. Then unplugged it and plugged in the original disc (after testing in in a different machine) and now the computer recognized it and error message stopped popping up. The Apple tech was as puzzled as I as to why this worked, but perhaps, forcing the machine to re-recognize it (or maybe even, gettting it recognized by a different machine first) somehow worked some magic.

@sjpierce - I don't believe that this is a Firefox-specific issue, but it does sound like you have some sort of malware on your machine. What was this innocuous link that you clicked on? A lot of viruses and malware make their rounds on Facebook.
Regardless, what I would do is this ( I assume you're running Windows):
* Download the Free and awesome Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE) via [http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials/ http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials/]
* Next update MSE and do a full system scan to ensure you don't have any existing malware on your machine. If so, clean it off and reboot. Keep doing this until you come up clean.
* Refer to this article on SUMO [[Profiles|Profiles]]
* Delete your old Firefox profile, create a new one and launch Firefox 4 again using the new profile
You should be back to normal at this point.
If you are running an OS like Mac OS X or Linux, it's unlikely that you have malware and you should probably clean your Firefox profile and start over again. -
Ever since upgrading to Lion on my iMac G5 Intel Core 2 Duo, I keep getting the error message "disk was not ejected properly." I have repaired permissions and reformatted my external LaCie 2TB USB hard disk, but the error continues. I use this disk for my Time Machine backups. This always seems to happen when the computer wakes from sleep, but not consistently. The computer was asleep overnight and backed up as soon as it awakend this morning. Two hours later I get the improper ejection message. I have used the same external disk with Snow Leopard (all versions), but never had this error message or problem. This disk has been in use without any problems since February, 2011. Upgrading to Lion is when this problem began. This is the below message (but from online image from Snow Leopard, but Lion message is essentially the same).
I had a similar issue. Mine was with a Seagate GoFlex drive. The solution was to install GoFlex for Mac 1.1.2 which included a 64-bit driver to disable the drives built in sleep timer:

I document how I discovered this in my blog post:

# Question
Since updating to Firefox 3.6.15, I can no longer print coupons from SmartSource. The error message is that Java is not detected. The check box is longer showing in the Options/Content of this version of Firefox, so I can not enable it.Same PC as I used to post the question. When I go to the "plug in check" page, it shows I am up to date and it is not disabled.

Since upgrade to Mac OS 10.7.2 Lion, on MacBookPro, recurring (every minute or so) error message: "There was a problem connecting to the server "servername". The server may not exist or it is unavailable at this time. Check the server name or IP address, check your network conneection, and then try again." (The server specified is no longer connected or used). The error message must be clicked twice to continue to work on the computer. Time Machine is switched off. No external disks are connected. Keychain entries for "servername" have been removed since the problem arose. Is there any way to prevent this error message?
I am having the same problem; have tried deleting some of the plist files as others suggested but to no avail. Tried turning off time machine - that didn't fix it either. Very dispappointing.

I keep getting this error in Dreamweaver when I am trying to upload my website? Can you tell me what I am doing wrong? here is the error message: /html - error occurred - Unable to create remote folder /html. Access denied. The file may not exist, or there could be a permission problem. Make sure you have proper authorization on the server and the server is properly configured. File activity incomplete. 1 file(s) or folder(s) were not completed. Files with errors: 1 /html
Nobody can tell you anything without knowing exact site and server specs, but I would suspect that naming the folder "html" wasn't the brightest of ideas, since that's usually a default (invisible) folder name existing somewhere on the server and the user not having privileges to overwrite it.
