Since upgrading to Firefox 6 my computer has gone from staying up until yearly power failures to crashing many times a day.

VERY strange. I upgraded to 6 when it came out and it took me quite a few days later to figure out WHY I went from no crashes to nvidia driver crashes MANY times a day.
It was firefox 6.0.
I thought my nvidia drivers were out of date. They were one version behind so I upgraded. Crash.
I thought maybe some kernel interaction might be an issue so I compiled up the latest Linux 3.0.3 and re-installed the nvidia drivers.
Still crash. Took me a few more days to realize the only thing that changed on my system was Firefox. I usually upgrade without thinking.
I switched to Opera. Not a single crash in a week. So it is Firefox. I dug and dug and dug on google and found a remote reference to some acceleration added in 6. I disabled it. It still crashes. I have moved back to Firefox 5 and have run all day without a crash.
My computer at home runs about a dozen web sites, 2 X servers on separate consoles (one for standard browsing and all other functions and one for World of Warcraft gaming - I like to keep them separate), FTP, TeamSpeak server ver 2 & 3, NFS for terrabytes of media files, lets just say many things. Firefox 6 killed me.
What more info do you need. Sorry I pasted ver 5 Troubleshooting Info, but I need a special request before I run anything greater than 6 on this system again. I will do it if needed but I will need a reboot to prevent all these kernel/video driver crashes.
ONLY when I run Firefox 6. After some small usage (while watching xine videos or web browsing youtube, playing WoW, or who knows what) the screen FLASHES and I know a freeze is eminent. If I can get one last xterm up I can dmesg and see these messages or if I log in with my android phone via SSH. I still have control of the system just no display. I can reboot there or Alt-Sysrq Sync, Unmount, Boot to restart my system many times a day.

That is probably rather unlikely. The updates are released ''throttled'' initially to a portion of users so that any major problems will be picked up before everyone gets it.
It is also run through a staged procedure releasing as six weeks each in Nightly -> Aurora -> Beta versions. Although some code change will occur in that process. The Releases also must also pass automated testing.
Once the Release happens then we can look for problems showing up from: the crash reporter, the input feedback, telemetry,and comments on this forum.
Problems do and always will get through but it is unlikely a problems causing Firefox not to start would go unnoticed unless it only affected a vanishingly small proportion of users (nearly 1/2 Billion total),and then it would possibly be because of specific hardware or interactions with other software.

Presumably you installed the conduit plugin deliberately and like it. A simple web search suggests many users may be unhappy with that software. Search

Is older firefox available, say dated fall 2011, which wasn't crashing many times per day as the current code is?

The current firefox, april 040412, crashes 60% of the time when you hit the print function. Not ok. Did not use to do this. So, I would like old fire fox; 6 mos old be nice, back when it was usable. I have had to go to Opera; please don't force me over to IE.

Well, let's see if we can't get your current Firefox working. you don't want to downgrade, because older versions of Firefox aren't supported, and have lots of known security holes.
First, make sure you are running Firefox 11, which you can get from [http://www.getfirefox.com www.getfirefox.com]. go ahead and just download and install that version over your current one, so then we can see if reinstalling it fixes the issue.
If it doesn't, Try to start Firefox in [[Safe mode|Safe mode]]. This mode disables all extensions, user customizations, hardware acceleration, etc. temporarily for diagnostic and troubleshooting. If Firefox works find in Safe Mode, then this is likely an add-on issue. Restart Firefox in normal mode, then type "About:addons" (without the quotes) in the address bar. Disable your extensions one by one, restarting Firefox between each one, until you find the trouble maker. Once you do, you can disable that add-on and report the issue to that add-on's developer.
If you are still having problems, can you please open up Firefox, then go to "about:crashes" in your address bar (without quotes, just type it in and hit Enter". Copy and paste the crash id's there into this thread (they start with bp-).
You can also do these few things to eliminate third part problems:
Run all Windows Updates, install all needed service packs, etc.

Since downloading firefox my computer has been getting infected every day

Have had this laptop since December 2010. Never had any problem with infiltrations. Everyone said Firefox was better than Internet Explorer. Don't know if it is a coincidence but since I started using Firefox, my computer has been getting infected every day. Have ESET Smart Security 4 and it will clean some of the files but shows error when cleaning others. Is there something I can do?

No padlock reflects to show secure website since upgrading to firefox 4.

Since upgrading to Firefox 4 I can't find the padlock anywhere which shows that I am on a secure website.

A security Padlock Icon should NOT have to be manually set up by the user. It should not be an Add-On, it needs to be a part of the standard build package. It has become a norm and expectation of web usability.

Since upgrading to Firefox 4 every time I open or refresh a page everything freezes and I have to wait a minute or so for it to respond again. I'm also having problems with uploading to Photobucket and watching things via Youtube since the upgrade.

Since upgrading to Firefox 4.0 a couple of days ago, every time I open or reload a page the whole browser freezes. At first I thought it might be down to compatibilty issues with other programmes open at the time, but as the problem has persisted when those programmes aren't open I'm starting to think it's the browser itself and it's getting extremely frustrating having everything freeze every time I want to change a page.
My other problem is twofold: with Youtube nothing plays at all because the toolbar with the play/pause option simply isn't there and I am unable to access the upload function on Photobucket because likewise it won't appear. I'm assuming this has something to do with Flash but have no idea how to fix it.

hello, often such issues are caused by a firewall/security software which doesn't recognize & therefore blocks new firefox versions. please remove all program rules for firefox from your firewall and let it detect the new version of the browser again.

I have to click the link several time before it will load and sometimes when they do load it does not show the page right. It is like the HTML is messed up or something. I have tried everything I can think of. I started in safe mode, still did it., I removed add-ons, still did it., I reset Firefox and still did it., I completely uninstalled Firefox and re-installed Firefox and it still does it. I have tried Malware Bytes Anti-Malware scans and Avast boot-time scans and found no malware or viruses. I have found that those websites open the first time with no problems on my IE9 and they used to do so in Firefox 26.0. I'm at my wit's end. The website links are in my bookmarks and are used all the time so they are trusted and my avast is set to allow them. They range from news websites to gun websites and everything I have read says that Mozilla does not filter those unless something has changed recently.

What I would call "body" copy is appearing in an unreadable script font on web pages and in emails since upgrading to Firefox 6.0, what can I do to resolve this?

Since upgrading to Firefox 6.0, some copy is appearing in a script font that is really difficult to read. I first noticed it in the body of an email I received, but then saw it on some web sites I was visiting. It also appears when I am typing.
I am on a Mac.

Also, here is what I've done so far to try and troubleshoot it...
I checked other browsers on my computer and it's not happening, I went through and checked for corrupt fonts on my computer, I double checked my font settings in Firefox prefs, I did a google search and attempted all the things I saw listed as potential fixes and nothing is working.

The iPod is still working, I just can't update apps or add songs... The countdown timers at File Storage Locker sites (fileserve, bitshare, freakshare, etc) will no longer countdown if not the active page (Since upgrading to firefox 5.0). How do make it countdown when not the active page?

Since upgrading to firefox 5.0, countdown timers at the various file locker sites will no longer countdown when the page is not the active page. I am sure it is not a site-side change as ALL the sites countdown timers freeze when not the active page. This has only happened since the upgrade.

In mean time you can try opening those links in a new window instead of a new tab.
Not all sites are affected as sites like Megaupload, Filesonic, depositfiles, Rapidshare work fine.

I have the exact same problem. I have not changed anything. This is probably a bug or something that has gone bad with Mac OS X (10.7.2). I have not found any solution for this on the web.

I can no longer attach files in Yahoo mail since upgrading to FireFox 4.0.1. I click the "attach" button and nothing happens - no file list to select from appears; nothing.

Since upgrading to Firefox 4.0.1 the "attach files" function in my Yahoo Mail account no longer functions. When I click the "attach files" button nothing happens - nothing. No file selection box opens, no error message appears, no pinwheel of death, nothing.
The "attach files" button is no longer 'hot' in FF 4.0.1 either = the "little hand" icon does not appear when I scroll over it. Other action buttons are still 'hot' ("attachments", "emoticons", "format", "hide bcc"etc.) - just not the "attach files" button.
The Yahoo Mail "attach files" function still works when I use my Safari browser, however. So, it appears to be a FF4.0.1 issue.
