This is a big thank you to Rys Sinnefeldt who posted this fix.
Rys has made this fix very easy to do and takes literally 2 mins. It involves replacing the Atheros Lion driver 4.0 and replacing it with the snow leopard driver. Don't worry, Rys has made this so simple to do even I could do it and so far I have had no more wifi drops.

For 10.8.3, it's in System Preferences > Accessiblity > highlight Mouse & trackpad on the left. The Double click speed slider shows on the right. Moving it to the left gives you more time between clicks. Moving it right gives you less time.

Well, you are certainly correct that the fact that the "wired" machines work sure doesn't rule out a faulty router....But that's why (as part of a process of elimination troubleshooting scheme) I hooked up my old Linksys Router, and got the same results. Now...What are the odds of 2 separate routers acting the same way? Especially when both worked fine on my TIPB and even on my MBP until a few months ago. Plus, my 12 year old son can pull a wireless signal from the router on his console games (xbox360, Wii, PS3) with no problem
Believe me, my first thought was to go out and buy another router, but when I swapped routers and got the same problem, I began to look elsewhere, eventually coming here for help and knowledge.
I did the SMC reset to no avail. I'm not sure about the stuff in System Configuration....By "pull" do you mean to delete all the files in this folder? Move them to a temporary folder? Should I just deal with the folders that have "IP" in the "bundle" file name?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Network in System Preferences "Quits Unexpectedly" - Help !

I need some help on a rather odd issue, yet annoying :
When I open the "Network" preference in the "System Preferences" pane,
the program quits and I get the fatal "Quits Unexpectedly" message followed by
Apple's option to report the glitch.
The problem is that I need to access to the network preferences in order
to configure the machine access to internet...
This is happening on my (wife's) IMac (Intel - OSX 10.5.5),
I did reinstall OSX (archive - not upgrade) and
would appreciate any help or ideas.

Try moving this one to the Trash:
com.apple.networkConfig.plist
from the Library/Preferences folder and log-out/in or restart. If it doesn’t help, you can move the above preference list from the Trash back to its original place, replacing the newly created one.

Imac won't let me install Final cut studio 2..it will let me install the upgrade, but it has no live type and i need it to work on my current projects. How do I get Live type back installed in iMac

I just purchased an iMac for home and went to install final cut studio 2 and it gave me an error saying something about "PowerPC" not used or something like that. Installed the studio upgrade just fine...but it has no "Live Type" which I need to work on projects I have been using in my Mac Pro at my work place. How do I get "Live Type" to install in this iMac? Downloaded Live Type upgrade but that won't update cause there's no "Live Type" in the applications.

It sounds like you have Lion installed on your new imac, although your profile says SL 10.6.8 (you may want to change this.)
If you have the Snow Leopard install disc I believe you can install "Rosetta" from the extras folder which will then, if you have the original FCS2 discs , allow you to select and install Live Type and LIve Type content only from the custom install options.

System Preferences does not open in Dock, Apple menu and in apps?

I'm experiencing an issue with System Preferences. One day the I noticed that the Icon changed to a white page with the "Applications" "A" on it. Since then, I have not been able to launch the System Preferences in my profile. In my wife's, it works fine.

It changes in the Dock, or in the stacks pop-out window? If the latter, try double clicking it from within /Applications directly.

SYstem Preferences does not recognize my iPhoto library.

I have a sort of random problem. I can reset Preferences when restarting my computer and set system preferences for my screen saver and desktop, to use my iPhoto library which is on an external USB for what I think are obvious reasons. Sometimes the iPhoto library is available and sometimes it is not. If it does not show up in the screen saver or desktop pain it is usually grey on my external drive. I just restarted my computer and got the photos I wanted, but I know from experience something will happen and they will be lost.

Locate a file named "com.apple.iApps.plist" and move it to your Desktop (for safe-keeping just in case,) then the next time you re-save your iPhoto Library, and/or change your wallpaper/screensaver settings, these should now work, and stick.

Startup Disk (under System Preferences) does not show os X or Windows disks

My startup disk options are not detected on Startup Disk. I can boot ok using either OS X 10.5.5 or Windows Vista if I startup holding the option key. Each system is stored on a separate drive on my Mac Pro. All drives appear to be fine.
The only things I have done recently have been setting up my wife as a new user including a new email account, and also plugging in my new logitech Vision Pro. Nothing too dangerous there I would have thought.
Any ideas about what is wrong and how to fix? I have reset P RAM, have repaired permissions. I hope to avoid a full reinstall of OS X. Apple support line has no record of startup disks not being visible occuring before.

If you do not chose which system to boot to by holding the option key, will it automatically boot to OS X?
Are there no options at all in the Startup Disk utility? If the issue is that you'd like to be able to chose which system to boot to, then I've found the software package rEFIt useful (http://refit.sourceforge.net/). Whenever you power on/restart your Mac, it displays a nice looking menu with little pictures representing the different boot options (it will have a picture for OS X, one for Windows, any other OSes you may install, and also will list any bootable removable media).

Ah, ok, so what you need to do is order the retail Snow Leopard disk first (10.6) - either from the Apple store or online resellers ($29). Install that and update to the latest version - 10.6.8. Once there, you will note a new app called Mac App Store - that is where you go (using your iTunes account) and buy Lion 10.7 - it is a very large download (close to 4 GB) and not available as a DVD. Once downloaded, dismiss the installer and immediately go to your Applications folder. Find the Installer and copy it to another location for safekeeping/future use (so you don't have to download it again). Then double click the installer and run it.
Note: PowerPC apps will no longer work under Lion (i.e. Appleworks, Quicken).

System preferences does not open

Sometimes when I press the System Preferences icon in dock nothing happens except it gets a dot under it. Right clicking on it shows it is running, and it has not crashed. I get a big list of all stuff in the preferences but nothing happens. So basically the UI is gone... Anyone has this?
I must say, I don't know where the fine tune is in Snow Leopard. Still $29 down the drain. I can't for the love of life understand how Apple could release this unfinished software...

Glad it worked for you. As to how it happens, I don't know. Files get corrupted, and cause problems. You should be sure that you maintain a buffer of 15% to 20% of total HDD capacity as free space to allow for directory growth and swap files. Sometimes hardware issues can cause corruption. Download and run SMART Utility - 2.0.2. It will give you an estimate of the health of your internal HDD.
Incidentally, the .plist file you dragged to Desktop can now be Trashed. The system will have created a new one.

When you switch from USB to FireWire, you have essentially installed a new (i.e., different) Printer.
In the Add-a-Printer dialog, delete[-] the existing Printer queue which is set up for USB. Then, with the Printer connected via FireWire, Add [+] a new Printer queue and it should set it up correctly this time.
To go back to USB, you would have to delete and re-add in a similar fashion later.

Request for Help - Very slow and programs crash, etc. since upgrading to Lion

I have searched the forum for a while looking for answers, but everyone seems to have different issues.
Since upgrading to Lion last week, EVERYTHING is running slow. I have an iMac (late 2009) with 4GB ram and over 700GB of free hard drive space.
I am not running a ton of heavy duty programs -- just the basics - word, entourage, safari, preview, and occasionally Photoshop, iPhoto, etc. I haven't even tried to edit any video since upgrading.
I continually get the "spinning wheel" when doing the most simple tasks like deleting a mail message, or opening a pdf file.
I have done all software updates.
Any help is greatly appreciated!

Next for Photoshop, make sure to follow tips on the http://roaringapps.com/apps:table website for your version of Photoshop, to ensure you aren't overtaxing your system, and that you are usign any applications that are current for Lion. If you have any WiFi routers, make sure WPA2 password protection is on, and not WEP, and not an open network, and that their firmware has been tested with Lion.
