Since upgrading to V31.0 why are my log-in sessions to various websites, such as yahoo mail, terminating - sometimes after only a few minutes?

After logging in to yahoo mail, facebook, flickr, and possibly other sites, my sessions are getting terminated prematurely. This was not a problem with past versions of Firefox. This is not a problem with IE9, but I'd rather use Firefox. I've run anti-malware, but that has not found any problems. Any suggestions how to fix?

Do you have allow or block exceptions for cookies?
*Tools > Options > Privacy > "Use custom settings for history" > Cookies: Exceptions
In case you are using "Clear history when Firefox closes" and you want to preserve some cookies:
*do not clear the Cookies
*do not clear the Site Preferences
*Tools > Options > Privacy > Firefox will: "Use custom settings for history": [X] "Clear history when Firefox closes" > Settings
*https://support.mozilla.org/kb/remove-recent-browsing-search-and-download-history
Note that clearing "Site Preferences" clears all exceptions for cookies, images, pop-up windows, software installation, passwords, and other website specific data.
Clearing cookies will remove all specified (selected) cookies including cookies with an allow exception that you would like to keep.
You can create a cookie 'allow' exception to keep specific cookies, especially in case of secure websites and when cookies expire when Firefox is closed.

  • Why are the shut down times so various

why are the shut down times so various

Then again, it could be completely abnormal.
I found that after updating to 10.8.2, from 10.8.1, that my shutdown times went from a solid 3-4 seconds, to a wide array. For the most part, it takes an average of 14-20 seconds on 10.8.2 (with an rare occasional 3-4 second shutdown).
I have performed an erasure, and restore to 10.8.1 to alleviate it (kinda bummed, because I do like some of the new features of 10.8.2).
I then cloned the 10.8.1 install to an external Thunderbolt SSD, and then updated that drive to 10.8.2. Shutdown problem is then evident on that drive (even in safe mode, with no startup items running).
After looking at the console logs, there appears to be a OS component that is hanging. Hopefully 10.8.3 will address it, as I find many others are seeing the same thing (as well as the hanging OS component in their system log).

  • I've been using my email for months since I've had my pad then I get this notice, In order to use Yahoo Mail, please turn Private Browsing off. Please go to Settings » Safari » Private Browsing, and turn it off..why now

I've been using my email to my IPad for months since I've bought it the I got a notice, In order to use Yahoo Mail, please turn Private Browsing off. Please go to Settings » Safari » Private Browsing, and turn it off....why now after all these months is someone trying to hack in?

You turn private browsing off on the Safari page. Tap the + sign in the upper right corner, then tap private in the lower left corner. You know you're in private when the top of the screen is dark.

  • Why are my contacts available on my daughters iPod touch in her mail app?

her contacts folder is empty, but when she goes to type an email in the "to" field, all of my contacts are available.  We are using the Family Share, but she has her own Apple ID.  Thanks.

Son of a gun! I can reproduce this on my system, but only partially. I created a new Mac user, logged on, attached to one of my less-used mail accounts (mail only, not contacts), and typed various search strings into the search bar. I could get addresses into the pop-down list that this Mac user had never communicated with and had no stored mail for, but seemingly only addresses that my normal Mac user had communicated with using the same email account.
You are sure you don't share (and have never shared) an email account or Apple ID with these other users on your Mac?

  • Why am I no longr able to sign in to my Yahoo mail now that I have updated with IOS6?

Why am I no longer able to sign in to Yahoo mail after updating Ipad2 to IOS6?

I'm still plugging away at this one.
Here's what I discovered. If I log onto the LiveBox's admin interface (by ethernet) and enable WPA encryption the PowerBook will ask for the WPA password when I try to log on via Airport, when I enter the password it then says "this network uses access control please contact your administrator". So I go back the LiveBox admin screen and I manually add the PowerBook's MAC address as a permitted user. Then I try Airport again. This time it asks me the password as before then pauses for 15 seconds and says "there was an error joining the network".
So now I know that the Mac is talking to the router. I know it is getting past the password stage (if I have one set), it seems to be getting past the MAC filtering stage, but then one or other of the boxes refuses to continue the negotiation.
Looking at other forums I see I'm not the only one with problems on the Livebox (otherwise known as a Sagem 3202). I know the simple solution is a new Belkin or similar but I'm damned if I want to let this little white box defeat me.

  • Can't sign in yahoo mail via safari after upgraded to iOS6

After upgraded to iOS6, I was able to sign in yahoo mail via safari only the first time but after that could not.  Every time when I tried to sign in yahoo mail, it returned to sign in page.  I have had the same problem with other upgraded iphones, but not iphone with iOS 5.
But if I clear history and cookies in the safari setting, I can sign in yahoo mail only once.  Every time when I want to sign in yahoo mail, I have to go to the safari setting and clear history and cookies.  I have no problem with gmail and hotmail.

  • Why are my log files not getting backed up?

I just tried to get some files from ~/Library/Logs but found that the entire Logs directory was not on Time Machine - looks like every thing else in ~/Library was there. I checked the exclusion list and it was not on there.
I know that some ~/Library stuff gets backed up because I was recently able to find and restore some iCal events from about 4 months ago.
Anybody know what gives? Is there any way to change this?
    Thx

I checked and both /Library/Logs and ~/Library/Logs are on the exclusion list - now why doesn't Apple's help file discuss that?
Now, that's funny! Apple's Help, while improved over the last few releases, is nowhere near complete. That's why some occasional tips turned into my 120+ page website, mostly about Time Machine, and several others have written entire books about OSX.
By all means, tell them about it at: http://www.apple.com/feedback/timemachine.html
Maybe if enough of us do that, they'll reconsider.
My problem - as a software tester, I occasionally would like to ensure that logs for a particular app stay around during my test period - in this case, the app under test did an archive, but kept only the previous 5 logs as backups (and without a setting I had access to) - and, of course, I was looking for an earlier log.
So, is there any way to tell Time Machine at the start of my testing period to save logs in specific ~/Librarary/Log subdirectory and then at the end of my testing period, tell TIme Machine to stop backing them up?
Not directly, other than periodically copying them somewhere else. But the schedule and handling of the "rotation" of some can be altered, if you're comfortable with UNIX and Terminal. See the MAN pages for newsyslog and newsyslog.conf.

  • HT201365 Why I cannot log on to my company (working email) with the same pass word after upgrade to ISO 7

    cor=el,
    First link. https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Web%20sites%20or%20add-ons%20incorrectly%20report%20incompatible%20browser
    Did not work.
◦general.useragent.override was the only one that had a "reset" option that wasn't greyed out.
After following as much of the proceedure as I could the problem was still there.
Of course, I never got an "incompatible browser" report. I got a missing USER AGENT report.
    However the second link: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Resetting_your_useragent_string_to_its_compiled-in_default
was more interesting. I reset the about:config file.
I then deleted my history and watched the useragent files in config RESET themselves to where they were before I reset them. I connected to a website successfully, then checked WHAT'S MY USER AGENT and it showed no User Agent again. I tried again to connect to the website and got the error.
I returned to About:Config and again reset the general.useragent files. After a while they went back to their pre-reset state on their own. Something is resetting them.
I disabled USERAGENTSWITCHER in FF (which had been installed in an attempt to deal with this problem) I rebooted FF and returned to About:Config where I realized any click after resetting the general.useragent list undid the reset exactly.
I reset the About:Config and immediately closed FF. I then rebooted FF. It was as if I had never reset the general.useragent list.
Something unknown is resetting the general.useragent to pre-reset conditions on my next action. I think the links SHOULD have worked except they are not, so the problem lies elsewhere
The "default" user agent is correct....it just keeps disappearing.

  • Since upgrading to Lion why does Safari freeze when using an email link?

I have a 21.5 in iMac (purchased late 2009). Ever since I upgraded to Mac OS X Lion 10.7.2 I have had problems opening links from my email. Safari is my default browser, and now I when I open a link from my Mail, the browser functions do not respond.  The page freezes and does not allow me to scroll at all, nor will any of the links work for me to click on what should be an active link.  When I open a new browser page, it is fine--whether Safari, Firefox or Chrome.  It's just when I open from Mail.
Anyone else reporting this, and is there something I need to change to make it work?  I'm not very technical with the Apple products...thanks!

Thanks again but I have no peripheral devices connected. It's very annoying whenever I close the lid the logo stays lit and the computer does not go to sleep (light on front stays solid white). Each time it happens I have to open and close the lid 3-4 times before it finally goes to sleep. It's as if the computer gets hung up trying to go to sleep.

  • Since upgrading to Lion, applications are opening multiple files, how do I stop that?

When I open pretty much ANY file, the application for that file will open not only the intended file, but also between one and three previously opened files.  Not sure how to stop that.  Once I've opened the file (and the unintended files), any other files I open for that application open normally with no additionallly opened files.  However, if I close the entire application and try opening just one file again, it will recur.  I've looked in preferences for the offending applications, to no avail, and also in system preferences.  This never happened with previous version of the OS, and only just started after I upgraded first to snow leopard and then to lion.  This software behavior is quite annoying, especially with files that have been moved elsewhere, which tends to make the application hang instead of opening the intended file.

It's the Resume feature of Lion:
Managing Mac OS X Lion's application resume feature.
If you shutdown your computer you should get a dialog asking if you want applications to resume on the next startup. Simply uncheck the box to prevent that from occurring. Open General preferences and uncheck the option to Restore windows when quitting and re-opening apps. You can also install a third-party utility to control resume features on individual applications: RestoreMeNot or Application State Cleaner.
