Since version 3.6.6, my firefox doesn't update itself.

Well, before version 3.6.6, my firefox update function was working good. Means it automatically used to download the new version and install it (as expected). But now since version 3.6.6, its not working. Means it always stuck at 99% and then never finish the download and never installs it. I have to download every new version from the official site manually and install it.
Why the update function is not working? Is it only me? please help.......

Try the Firefox SafeMode to see how it works there. <br />

  • I have version 3.5.1, and it doesn't update when I open "About Mozilla Firefox" under the Firefox tab, why?

I have a MAC, I was using OS X Leopard & Firefox wouldn't update because the OS was out of date or something to that effect. I've upgraded to Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and Firefox still hasn't updated. And there are sites I can't access until Firefox is updated and some sites I can't access using Safari! So I have to go back & forth, not fun!!

    Hi Need2no
    1. Download a copy of the latest firefox from http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all.html
    2. '''Trash''' the current Firefox application to do a clean install.
    3. Install the version that you have downloaded.

  • I have firefox16.0 and would like to update to the most recent version (19). But my Firefox won't update

    Hi there
I've got windows vista on my computer, and am using Firefox 16.0. Have been for a while now, ever since it was installed a year ago or so.
The thing is, Firefox won't update to the latest version (currently version 19 I believe), neither automatically or manually. I've tried everything, including using the "help" function. The window only says it's Firefox 16.0, but when I click on "update", the page just refresh and that's it, nothing else happens. I've checked all other settings, and it looks like all the right boxes are ticked, including "update Firefox automatically".
Coming to think about it, on my wife's computer, we are always told about new updates for Firefox. On this one, no update alert of any sorts since it was installed a while ago (and again, all the right boxes being ticked)
Please can anybody help? Should i reinstall Firefox altogether?
    Thanks for your help

    Hi Daniel,
Thank you for your question. At the moment 29.0.1 is a hotfix. I would encourage to update as it fixes many security issues and adds safety to your browsing. This will show you notifications when a hotfix goes out.

  • Firefox updated itself while I was away and I've lost all my addons and info (on Quick Note for example). How can I rectify this? It's important and I'm very cross.

I am on a Mac laptop and never shutdown, just close the lid and put it to sleep. Today when I came back, I saw that only the skin was the same: all my add-on icons have disappeared (for example evernote clipper, session manager, paypal, etc etc - and very importantly Quick Note (where I had a lot of passwords and for example the very specific way to write my credit card address so it will be accepted by a particular site). Firefox has somehow updated itself. I got the window "A new version of Firefox is available. Update now?" And refused it because I know the problem with updating and so never update. I'm really cross and frustrated. Please help me. Thank you.

And next day, although my addons appear in the sidebar, the compatibility checker (recommended here) tells me that ALL my addons are incompatible. Even the Evernote clipper doesn't work.
Also, I have done small tests and any icons I put into the navigation toolbar disappear when I restart Firefox.
I can't decide whether to download Firefox 9 or go back to a year old 3. something version, but will have to decide within the next few hours as I need to get functioning again.

  • June 10 2012 Firefox automatically updated itself (no choice) on my Intel Mac/Tiger 10.4.11. Can no longer use Firefox, so how do I get back the old one?

June 10 2012 Firefox automatically updated itself (no choice) on my Intel Mac/Tiger 10.4.11. I can no longer use Firefox. I have an old version of Firefox on my Mac G4, but am scared to use that machine in case that Firefox also automatically updates itself. How can I transfer a copy of that older version of Firefox (from the G4) to the Intel Mac, and how do I stop both versions from then automatically updating? How do I then remove the updated version of Firefox from the Intel Mac, which I cannot use? Thank you for your help.

esqki FF update to 13 and now you can't open ? sorry about that.
    1. Download (with your safari) a copy of the latest (3.6.28) from your 10.4.11 mac
    from
    ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/3.6.28/mac/
    2. '''Trash''' the current Firefox application to do a clean install.
    3. Install the version that you have downloaded (3.6.28).

  • HP Protect tool password manager not working with the new version of Mozilla: I got this alert: "Firefox doesn't know how to open this address, because the protocol (dpql) isn't associated with any program." please help

I have an HP ProBook 4520s. I have been using HP Protect tool's Password manager to store and manage my passords for all Login websites in Firefox 3.6. As a result, I just swiped my fingerprint to log on to any website.
After I installed the version 4 of Firefox, my all my login details do not work anymore. I have tried to reset them but I repeatedly get this error: "Firefox doesn't know how to open this address, because the protocol (dpql) isn't associated with any program."
something like this would have been passed onto the address: "dpql://c:\program%20files%20(x86)\hewlett-packard\hp%20protecttools%20security%20manager\bin\dpminionlineids.dll/qlinkload.htm#id=2".
Although the password manager works with Internet Explorer 9, I need it to work with Firefox 4 as this is my preferred browser.
    Please help. Thank you!

I guess this means that IE is more user friendly for HP Password Manager finger swipe recall of passwords, a favorite of mine. I still don't see a post from Firefox as to why they haven't produced fix. So I'll switch to IE until things change. I don't see value in downgrading to a Firefox version that's no longer going to be supported.

  • Since yesterday clicking on a link in an email message firefox doesn't open a new tab with that particular website.

I am using Firefox 3.6.13 on a 2009 Mac Pro computer (OSX 10.6.6). Up until yesterday when I clicked on a link in an email message Firefox opened a new tab and switched to that particular website. Since yesterday Firefox doesn't do that. I have Firefox set up as my default browser. I tried to change my default browser to Safari, then everything worked fine. Clicking on a link in a message a new tab has opened in Safari with that particular website. My problem is, that I like Firefox a bit more than Safari and I'd like to know what to do to restore that functionality to Firefox.

It's a good idea to try disabling Flash completely and see whether the problem continues. If it does, then my guess is incorrect. To test that, open this tab:
orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons > Plugins category
Here you can locate Shockwave Flash and use the Disable button. Keep this tab open for easy access when doing your test.
''If your test confirms that Flash is causing the problem,'' then the other thread has two suggested workarounds. The first is simple to understand (keep some Flash running at all times) but may be inconvenient to do all the time. The second is trickier because it requires editing a file in (or creating and then dragging a file into) a system folder. Fortunately you only need to do it once.

    THE COMPUTER HAS WORKED FINE

    FOR YEARS.
NO CHANGES HERE IN ANYTHING ELSE.

Click the Firefox button, go to Add-ons, then Plugins and disable the following:<br><br>
    * Fun Web Products Plugin<br><br>
    * My Web Search<br><br>
Both of these are adware/spyware and cause performance issues in Firefox.
Next, click the Extensions menu link (above Plugins where you are) and remove the "Ask Toolbar".
If the problem persists, please do the following:<br><br>
    #Click '''Help '''| '''Restart with Add-ons disabled'''.<br><br>
#In the next menu which appears, checkmark: "'''Reset toolbars and Controls'''".<br><br>
#Finally, click the button called "'''Make changes and restart'''".
Just in case you weren't aware of it, you can right click the Back or Forward buttons to get a list of sites visited. If you'd like to see the return of the arrow on the Back button, install this add-on: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/backforward-dropmarker/
Last but not least, some of your plugins are seriously out of date which exposes your system to exploits. Please visit the [http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/plugincheck/ Plugins Check] page and update where necessary.

  • Firefox crashes since version 10!! Nothing to do with our computer setups!

This is not so much a question of support but just re-iterating the fact that FF has been constantly crashing on certain Flash scripts since version 10 (but NOT before) on both my machines (win7 notebook and winxp pro desktop), machines that otherwise run all other browsers (opera, ie and chrome) and the entire adobe design suit just fine. I am mentioning Adobe because if any software is super sensitive to hardware problems, it is After Effects.
To add to the pain, since FF 11 (and after updating to win 7 on the xp machine, new install from scratch) now not only on my two machines but also my colleague winxp notebook FF keeps crashing daily and we have now decided to go Chrome until the problem is solved.
We also have quite different setups on all 3 machines and have no other issues with hardware or crashes. We all work with graphics and web design so the setups are fairly streamlined with efficient firewalls and anti-viral software and little in terms of background processes that could disturb the needs of audio recording and video editing software,

The crash report is related to the plugin container ([@ hang | mozilla::plugins::PPluginInstanceParent::CallNPP_Destroy(short*) ] ), so you can check for problems with other plugins as well if updating your old shockwave flash 10.0.2.54 as suggested above isn't sufficient to stop the crashes.

  • Firefox Doesn't Close and Is Incessant Memory Hog

Unistalled 3.6.3 for the apparent delay loop of say 3 seconds between typing in a url and getting to the actual location, then happening again when the page loads.
Also, firefox from 3.5 - 3.6.3 goes off in some 50 meg at a time memory expansion, particularly with browser games such as DarkOrbit. This goes and goes until there is a constant disk swapping, and with 4 gigs of ram and Window XP this is just absolutely terrible performance. I am currently using 3.5.9 since that doesn't have the lag to url entry and website loading issue that started with 3.6.
Now I understand a memory leak is claimed to have been fixed, however, I don't see it, and it seems more like a band-aid of some delay loop was inserted in the 3.6.x code instead of an actual fix, an actual rewriting of the code causing the problem.
Could someone actually test firefox prior to it being released to the public, in a setting where memory leaks are being reviewed? I mean the idea this has been going on since version 3.5 is just amazing, with patch after patch actually not fixing anything and instead transferring the issue somewhere else. It's disgusting really. Maybe Firefox should quit while ahead since they appear unable to be responsive enough to compete with Microsoft or Google.
I Pray 3.6.4 actually adresses this issue but am not willing to jeopardize my bookmarks to beta test it, as that seems a more proper role of the so called programmers who are supposedly coding a fix. But maybe they don't trust themselves enough to know if their code works, and figure it takes popular opinion to say it works and get them off-the-hook for being responsible for their code.
Sick and tired of this, and I've brought this up more than once, since 3.5.3, only to be ignored apparently. If you go to the option to make a feature suggestion in the automated forum system, it tell you the developers don't even look at the forums. MAYBE THAT EXPLAINS WHY THIS ISSUE HASN'T BEEN FIXED.

None, have to use Task Manager to close firefox

For ALL my WIndows PCs (XP, Vista, 7) both 32 & 64-bit versions:
Memory (via Processes category of Task Mgr). starts our at less than 100K.
But over time (less than a 24-hr period) grows to 1 to 1.5 G in size (causing my graphs on my 2-monitor laptop to finally fail).
As long as I hourly kill Firefox 3.63 (including its process) and restart, I have no problem.
The 'growth' occurs whether I am actively using Firefox, or simply leave it running 'overnight.'

  • Firefox doesn't show/display my addressbook within my hotmail account anymore. Cookies/Cashe has been emptied already, result is the same.

Firefox doesn't show/display/load my addressbook within my hotmail account anymore, it worked previously well, so has nothing to do with the change from hotmail to outlook. Since a week or so, I realized a slowness in loading my recently used addresses with opening a new e-mail, but it was still working from time to time. For a few days, it has been stopped working, complete addressbook doesn't load anymore, just displays the load circle in the middle of the screen, apart from that I have only a white page. Cache and Cookies already emptied/deleted, result is the same. No settings have been changed, but have the same issue with Internet Explorer, but it's working with Chrome. For testing, I deactivated my firewall and anti virus (Comodo), but the result was still the same. I would appreciate if I could get it working again here. Every suggestion is welcome here

  • When trying to go into itunes I get this message "Firefox doesn't know how to open this address, because the protocol (itmss) isn't associated with any program"

When trying to log into itunes i get this message:
Firefox doesn't know how to open this address, because the protocol (itmss) isn't associated with any program.
I had to reset Firefox (due to slowness and shockwave error message that I kept getting). Itunes was downloaded after the reset, but I can't get into it? Any ideas?

I ran into this same problem after Firefox auto-updated to v24! I'm on the Beta Channel and I had Firefox set to automatically update.
What I did to correct the problem:
    1. Turned off all automatic updating.
    Options> Advanced> Update [tab]
    Firefox updates
[x] Check for updates, but let me choose whether to install them
[ ] (unchecked) Use a background service to install updates
    I also unchecked;
[ ] Search Engines (I will turn this back on after I'm done with my experiment.)
    2. Googled 'Firefox v23 download', downloaded and installed: Firefox_Setup_23.0b1.exe (version 23, Beta 1)
Since I reverted back to v23, I haven't had any problems.
