Since when did Safari start to suck?

I'd say about two weeks ago, maybe closer to a month, I noticed Safari becoming dramatically slower.
I happen to use my powerbook at work as well as at home (work being an ethernet connection, home being an airport). At home Safari seemed to be about the same, but at work it was death.
I chalked this up to a poor work connection.
But as it's gone on I've noticed it's not just at work, it's at home as well and at this point I'm seriously considering abandoning Safari all together and just going to Firefox full time. I had to type this in Firefox, in fact.
I just can't stand the **** pinwheel any more.
But I'm wondering if there was a reason for this. I know v.3.0.whatever is about to launch, so maybe when they finish that it will patch something somewhere, but I never used to have this problem.
Is it using more memory than before, is there something I should update other than the OS and Safari?
I actually like the browser, but it's killing me. It just hangs constantly.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.

The only thing I haven't done is, once those particular files are deleted, then repair the permissions. As it happened, I did that first.
Perhaps I that's the finishing touch. But that Safari feels like it's gobbling more memory than it used to, or just being less responsive than it used to be, seems so odd to me as it doesn't seem as if much has really changed.
At any rate, I'll try that all again today when I've got a moment. Thanks.

Using RSLs results in a mixed content warning in Chrome? When did this start happening?

Hello All,
We've got a secure (delivered via HTTPS) Flex app that has been using RSLs for years. Just today, I noticed that Chrome was showing a "mixed content" warning for our app.
We're not getting this same warning in IE or Firefox. I poured over the requests in Chrome's developer tools, and there were only two HTTP requests:

http://fpdownload.adobe.com/crossdomain.xml
These both appear related to the Adobe hosted Flex RSLs.
I changed my compilation options to merge libraries into code (no RSLs). As soon as I did this, the mixed content warning in Chrome went away (and so did these two HTTP requests). Switch back to RSLs, and the mixed content warning comes back (along with the two HTTP requests).
Turning off RSLs makes my app quite a bit fatter--over 600kb fatter. That's a lot. I want to use RSLs, like we've been doing in the past! How can this be fixed?

After looking through the Build->Properties->Flex Build Path->Library Path settings, I found that the RSLs each have a "Deployment Path/URL" and "Policy file URL" value. For instance, for the text layout RSL, we've got:
Deployment Path/URL: http://fpdownload.adobe.com/pub/swz/tlf/1.0.0.595/textLayout_1.0.0.595.swz
Policy file URL: http://fpdownload.adobe.com/pub/swz/crossdomain.xml
I went through each of the RSLs and changed both deployment and policy URLs to use HTTPS.
Once I did this, the mixed content warning in Chrome stopped showing up.
But I'm still at a loss as to why this started happening in the first place. As I indicated in my original post, we've had this app running for years and this is the first we've noticed a mixed content warning in any browser. What's going on?

IIRC, it's been that way since Tiger, but only applies to Flash Player, not Flash Pro or Platform. I no longer have any Panther installations. However, you can check the various installers with Pacifist.

Since when did Siri get a robotic voice?

I don't know if this is an issue with 6.0.1, or the full restore I did on the iPhone 5, or Apple tweaked something when they launched iTunes 11, but Siri suddenly sounds horrible. She sounds like the robot voice from a late 90's automated customer service menu. Is there a fix in the works? Why isn't this being publicized? It's been observed on my device for over 24 hours.

It is an issue with your iOS install/restore not iOS in general. Restore it again.

When did Apple start using LED backlights for display panels?

I am a relative newcomer to Apple world.
As an electronics professional, I am interested in display technology and progress.
Apple displays have been impressive for some years,particularly the MacBooks etc.

Probably your best resource is the MacTracker dataase as it identifies the display technologies in different models. The LED was introduced at different times with different models. and MacTracker is subdivied by models--easy. Here's its entry for an older Intel iMac showing the TFT instead of LED display:

We have seen issues reported caused by Avast and the Avast! Online Security extension that shows in the System Details List.
Check out why the site is untrusted (click "Technical Details to expand that section) and if this is caused by a missing intermediate certificate then see if you can install this intermediate certificate from another source.
You can retrieve the certificate and check details like who issued certificates and expiration dates of certificates.
*Click the link at the bottom of the error page: "I Understand the Risks"
Let Firefox retrieve the certificate: "Add Exception" -> "Get Certificate".
*Click the "View..." button and inspect the certificate and check who is the issuer of the certificate.
You can see more Details like intermediate certificates that are used in the Details pane.
If "I Understand the Risks" is missing then this page may be opened in an (i)frame and in that case try the right-click context menu and use "This Frame: Open Frame in New Tab".
Note that some firewalls monitor (secure) connections and that programs like Sendori or Fiddler (FiddlerRoot) can intercept connections and send their own certificate instead of the website's certificate.

I went today with my husband to pre-order him an iphone 4S for Christmas and the guy would not take my cash. He had to have either a debit or credit card. He had no explanation as to why. Probably because you were ordering a back-ordered phone. If you use a card with a phone that they cannot deliver immediately, that could cause complications if something happens and they need to cancel your order. It is much easier to refund money to a card than to find you and refund the cash (which the store may not have on hand, because most people make purchases, especially large ones, on cards).
If you need to pay cash, call ahead to confirm the store's policy and purchase a phone that is in stock at the time.

Since when did my Music Videos become movies?

iTunes doesn't have the best video selection, for the artists I listen to in the Rock genre. So some of the music videos I have are in .mpg because I get them from other sources. I tried converting them into MPEG-4 so they would go onto my iPod, but they didn't go into the Music Video folder onto my iPod, the videos went into Movies. Is there any way I can change this? I want my music videos to be recognized by artist/song, not by simply the name of the file in Movies.

I just called Apple, and there was nothing they could do about it sadly because they weren't from the iTunes store. And that really ****** me off. But hey, I tried. I'll go messing around with the videos, and see if I can do anything about it.

If you want Google as your homepage, open Safari.
Type www.google.com in the address bar
Then tap the action icon (box with a right facing arrow just to the left of the address bar).
Then tap: Add to Home Screen

Carefully follow steps 1-9 outlined by wjosten in this post: https://discussions.apple.com/message/13356770#13356770. This will not, however, avoid wiping any non-purchased media from your phone (ripped CDs, etc.) as this is only synced one way: from your computer to your phone. You will have to either rebuild your iTunes library with this content and sync again to restore it to your phone, or purchase 3rd party software to copy it from your phone to iTunes prior to syncing (such as Touch Copy).
