Since Win 8.1 update Satellite C855-2HW shuts off

Greetings,
Well, June 2013 I bought my Satellite C855-2HW with Windows 8 as operating system.
The notebook worked smooth until in December 2013 I got Windows 8.1 updates.
Since then every day (sometimes several times a day) the notebook shuts off, the Automatic Recovery feature of Windows is initiated and the message 'Windows couldn't be started as it should, a system recovery is necessary.' pops up.
I've got this problem now for four weeks now and every time I have to install some software since the system is set to a previous recovery point.
I hope someone can help me get rid of this problem.
My sincere thanks in advance.
Stefan

Hi
It would be interesting to know how you installed / upgraded to Win 8.1 system.
Did you follow the Toshiba step by step instruction in order to update the Win 8.1 properly?
I mean this instruction:
http://www.toshiba.eu/innovation/generic/windows8_1-upgrade-stepbystep/
I did it with my Toshiba notebook and I must say: no problems until now
Additionally you should not forget to install/update the Win 8.1 drivers provided by Toshiba
On Toshiba EU driver page (Win 8.1 update) you will find the installation instruction for Win 8.1 drivers. It shows you the drivers and tools which need to be removed, updated or installed again.
Im sure the notebook would run properly in case the Win 8.1 update would be done properly.

  • Satellite C855-1UU shut down problem, notebook turn on itself

    Hi to all,
I hope that somebody can help, I need to know what to do. I bought this notebook Satellite C855-1UU two days ago, and I`m afraid that it has some malfunction.
Everything works fine, except that I have problem when I want to power off notebook. I`m using Linux OS (tried with Sabayon and now on Manjaro, just wanted to check is it OS problem or hardware).
    Problem is:
when power off notebook (with power off icon or via console command) , notebook turns off...then stays turned off for about 5-10 seconds, and then switch on by itself without any reason!
I tried to determine what could be possible reason, and I found that`s only happening when battery charger plug is connected. Tried with removed battery, with loading default BIOS values, nothing changes...always turn on itself.
When unplug battery charger from notebook, and try to power off computer, it works.
Any suggestion, idea or advise what to do?
    Thanx in advance!

O.K. answer found...it`s related to Linux, not to notebook.

  • Need to Create a Live Update Smart Playlist That Shuts Off After a While

    Hi All--
I'm trying to create a smart playlist with the following properties:
    1) Every time I play it, it selects a different random set of songs.
    2) The playlist plays for a fixed duration, then shuts off.  (I like to go to sleep to music, but it wakes me up in the middle of the night if it plays for too long.)
The best I've been able to come up with is to set "not played in the last xx days", "Limit to yy minutes selected by random", and "live updating".  However, there's a problem with this:  as soon as one song has played, it's purged from the list, which causes live updating to replace it with a new song.  As a result, this creates a list that plays forever, since new songs are continuously added to replace the ones that have been played.
I tried turning off live updating, but then I'm stuck with the same songs over and over.  I also know about the trick of just using "select random" and deleting the contents of the list, so that live update will repopulate it, but that won't work on an iPod without doing it in iTunes and then re-syncing.
    Any ideas?

OK, I think I finally found a way to do this, sorta.  This will work on any iPod or iPhone that supports live update and allows the creation of ad-hoc playlists, either named or on-the-go:
    1) Create the list as described above.
    2) Sync to iPod or iPhone
3a) On a non-touch iPod, highlight the playlist and hold down the select button until you get the menu with "add to on-the-go" in it, and select that.
3b) On an iPod touch or iPhone, create a new playlist, then select the dynamic list and "add all songs" to it.
The playlist you created isn't dynamic, so you'll just play through it once and stop.  Deleting the contents from the temporary list and doing step 3a/b over will get you a new set of songs.  The dynamic list will purge the songs and update with new ones as you play them from the static list.
It's not perfect, but it's reasonably fast to get a time-bounded selection of music that refreshes each time you want to play the list.

  • Re: Satellite P300 just shutting off

My dad got a Satellite P300 on sunday (22nd June). It worked fine on Sunday afternoon but since Monday night it keeps just shutting off without warning. I can't figure out anything that it could be. There's no pattern to it shutting down sometimes it's after 20mins sometimes after 2.
Any ideas other than to just take it back - which I can't see him taking lightly because he's only used it for a few hours Sunday/Monday!

    Hello
For me it sounds like overheating issue and I do not believe you can do anything about it.
Try to test it with two different situations. At first test it without some graphic intensively applications like Word or just using browser.
Test it also playing some game. It will be interesting to know when the notebook switches OFF in both situations.
If the problem persists I recommend you to contact your local dealer or nearest authorized service provider. They have special application and then can set notebook to work under pressure and see if the notebook switches OFF because of too high hardware temperature.

  • Satellite A505D Randomly Shuts off...help please

hi, i recently baught a Toshiba satellite A505D....recently it has started shutting off randomly...the screen will go black and briefly display a blue screen that says that it is shutting off to protect something in the computer...does anyone know why this happens, or how to fix the problem? thank you, any advice or help is greatly appreciated.

    Hi,
It would be very helpful if you can give the exact error message that the computer will give before it will shutdown. Anyways, things like this can also happen if the Operating System is being corrupted or the Hard Drive is not working properly. Try to let the computer run in safe mode for a couple of minutes and observe if the same thing will happen.
Press F2 upon starting up the computer. In the Advanced Boot Options page, use the arrow keys to select Safe Mode and hit Enter key.
    Hope this will help...:-)

  • Itouch has frozen mid-update and will not shut off or restart

My 5th generation iTouch has recently begun downloading the newest iOS update.  The update did not complete (thus a restart has yet to occur); however, I am unable to even power off the device (held the power button in excess of one minute without it shutting off the device).  I just downloaded the ITunes 12 update, but have some tasks to complete before restarting my computer (to allow for a possible recovery restart).  Also, when plugging in the iTouch to the computer, the device isn't recognized or accessible.
How can I restart the device without using a recovery option?
Thank you in advance for your much appreciated attention and  support provided by the community.

    - Try letting the battery fully drain and then charge and try a reset
    Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Next try connecting to iTunes and try making a backup.
    - Last restore the iPod using Recovery mode if necessary.

  • Portege Z10T has 'lost' 4g hardware since Win 8.1 update

Since I updated last night to Win8.1, my Portege Z10t 4G i5 model no longer has an aircard/4G anymore.
I've tried re-installing original drivers/software and the updated software, to no avail.
Numerous restarts and checking for updates too.
    Help please.
If it helps this is the Telstra 4G version.

    Hi
I did not find an LTE (4G) driver on the Toshiba Australian page but I found one on the Toshiba EU driver page.
    [Toshiba LTE Driver Windows 8.1 - 64 Bit|http://www.toshiba.eu/innovation/download_driver_details.jsp?service=EU&selCategory =2&selFamily=4&selSeries=362&selProduct=7902&selSh ortMod=null&language=13&selOS=46&selType=all&yearu pload=&monthupload=&dayupload=&useDate=null&mode=a llMachines&search=&action=search&macId=&country=al l&selectedLanguage=13&type=all&page=1&ID=88595&OSI D=46&driverLanguage=42]
The notebooks should be the same therefore in my opinion the driver should work too.
Try it out and please give me a feedback.

  • How do I install updates after computer was shut off while in the process of installing them?

I was in the middle of installing updates when my computer stalled. I forgot and shut it off. Now I cannot install these updates. What do I do?
    == This happened ==
    Just once or twice

Your content ought not to have been touched by the uninstall, so I'd first just try an iTunes reinstall.

  • Satellite Pro A100 shutting off for no reason

    Hi
I have a pro a100 that i think is overheating.
It runs for about 30 minutes then switches of and reverts to the initial boot up screen "Toshiba" ect, tires to boot then repeats the above.
I have blown the dust from the fan intake and air outlet and this has improved things, now runs for about 90 minutes.
I want take the base off to clean it out properly but cannot find a service manual to tell me which screws to remove.
Would anyone here have a service manual for this laptop, if so would you be willing to e-mail me a copy.
As it is now "end of life" would this still be a problem?
I am competant as I repair Blu-ray players ECT.

    > I have blown the dust from the fan intake and air outlet and this has improved things, now runs for about 90 minutes.
So I think that the notebook is affected by higher temperature.
Cleaning the fans inside the notebook and assigning new thermal grease might help.
I found really useful page which could help you to get some tips:
    www.irisvista.com/
But of course everything you will do is your own risk.

  • My Satellite L500 suddenly shuts off

    Hi all!
I need help!!! my computer suddenly shuts off and I have no idea why!!!
    TOSHIBA L500-22R

Beside the tests mentioned by Macius I guess the notebook shuts OFF due to high internal temperature.
Some background info: the notebook supports some kind of overheating protection. In case the temperature increase to a higher level, this protection prevents the hardware from damage.
I dont know how old your notebook is but I guess you never cleaned the cooling ventilators.
This should be done from time to time because the dust could affect the cooling performance.
Clean the fans and cooling grilles using a compressed air spray. Such air sprays can be ordered online or purchased from common computer dealers.

  • Since upgrading to IOS 5, my cellular antenna shuts off randomly.

I look at the phone and the antenna is flatlined next to the Verizon symbol and wont work. If I turn the phone off then back on, the antenna shows almost full strength. I have never had this problem until upgrade to IOS5.

Get it replaced! If your still in your hardware warrenty, you should be fine to get a new one.

Since Firefox's recent update, my FB page is off center and rearranged awkwardly. On Safari and Chrome this doesn't happen so I'm certain it's FF. I've tried clearing the cache, reseting the page in safe mode, checking page style etc etc and nothing has changed.

    EXACT same problem here!

^Hi.  yesterday, after trying to study on my iphone 4, i accidentally clicked okay on something that poped up while flipping through notecards.  it told me that it was "updating", i had my phone updated to ios7 but not 7.0.2..  i tried to shut if off to see if it would stop the update, because i didnt want it to do that.  after a few minutes i turned it back on and it was still updating.  it then shut off and a screen poped up telling me to plug my phone into iturnes.  itunes recognized my phone and said it was in recovery mode and i would have to restore it.  i have tried to restore it three times and nothing has happened.  it will go all the way through the restore process, say it is finished, and then nothing will happen.  my phone will not stay in DFU mode, i have tried for 20 minutes to get it to.  i have even uninstalled and reinstalled itunes.  i dont know what to do and i have been without a phone for alomost 24 hours.  how do i get my phone back to normal?  can i fix it or could at&t replace it?  or do i have to take it to an apple store? Please help me.

Has your phone been jailbroken in the past? If yes, this could be a reason for not being able to finish the restore process.
If not, did you try to restore it on a different computer?

I bought my iphone 4s in August of this year.  Since then it has gotten really hot and shuts off automatically.  When it does this, I had not been on the phone using it.  Is this a common occurance?

This is not a common occurrence. You should make an appointment at an Apple Store to have the phone checked.
