Single beep on turning on

I have a compaq pressario SR1807UK that I am preparing to recycle to a family member and was deleting files and programs. After using the wizard to remove some windows utilities and MSN explorer from drive D the computer has failed to restart. On powering up there is a single long beep that is repeated. There is no signal to the monitor and no lights on the keyboard (Ihave tried using a different keyboard), i have tried f10 to no avail.
Can anyone help or will I need to take it to a repairer/ replace the video card?

I am having exactly the same problem. Its frustrating. I tried all the solutions you suggested with mixed results.
One additional piece of information. I suspect it is a problem with the Apple Bluetooth Headset. The Bluetooth hands free system in my car works perfectly every single time. It automatically detects and connects with the iPhone as soon as I start the ignition. It stays connected and functions well even on long road trips.

  • IMac G4 Flat Panel 1Ghz - 1 beep when turning it on.

I have an iMac G4 Flat Panel 1Ghz that beeps once when you turn it on. After doing some research, I learned the 1 beep could be no RAM or RAM problem. I replaced both the internal RAM and the easily accessible RAM with RAM from a reputable dealer that markets this RAM just for iMac G4s. I still get one beep after startup. I tried taking one stick out and all variations of using the old and new RAM with no difference. I did more research that maybe it was the power supply. By the way, originally this iMac was shocked through its Ethernet port with lightning. I since bought a new motherboard, new RAM as stated, and now also the power supply. After putting it all together, I still get one beep at startup. I have reset the PMU also. Also added a new battery. Looking forward to your suggestions.

There may be some indication of the beep's cause after some thorough
testing of the computer with some utility software; perhaps even the basic
Apple Hardware Test which would have accompanied the computer when
new could be helpful to some degree, if the machine were run in that, in a
long continuous loop to see if at some point, it may generate some codes.
However, the startup sequence itself is where such a hopeful bit of information
would more likely be generated; and this is the kicker, in that some of the info
at start-up is too early in the beginning of the run-cycle to be recorded or read.
But, you may find evidence of the issue in the Console error message reports
in that utility; and there are a few different sub-titles of places in Console to look.
Also, you may be able to find some error or crash messages, or other runtime
messages and glitches, in the System Profiler> Software> progression path.
There may be another source of the single-beep on startup tone. Not sure of
any other, though; since the Power-on self-test is generally what checks out
those computers on start-up. And the 'single beep' suggests there is a RAM
issue, as this Beep would replace the normal startup chime.
So, that early in the startup, and without a booted system, the error logs or
crash and failure reports would not be generated to be read later.
Is the computer you have really a 20" LCD and does it truly have a 1GHz
CPU? Or, does it have a 1.25GHz PPC processor, as it should? Did the
company you obtained the replacement logic board from, have anything
to say about the kinds of issues you've noted the computer displaying?
There may have been a limited duration warranty on the rebuilt board.
There have been a few of the old iMac G4 17" & 20" 1.25GHz models
generating an odd, single 'buzz' sound after the normal startup tone.
Is your's making a 'single beep' or a 'buzz' sometime after booting?
Do you have any other RAM chips of correct supported version to
replace one or both RAM slots, of reliable quality product? How was
the OS installed into the computer, or have you been unable to do so?
Once in a great while, new correct RAM could be bad on arrival. Rare.
    {This is a lot like chasing gremlins or setting a trapline for gnomes.}
Maybe someone, such as the contributor alias 'spudnutty' may know of
some other factor in this matter that he has found, that may cause that.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Single beep at startup

My macbook will sometimes emit one long beep when I push the power button to turn it on. I would say this happens about 50% of the time. Three or four seconds after i push power, it beeps, then the screen comes on and starts up normally after that. I know that three beeps signifies a memory problem, but Apple's website has no explanataion for a single beep. Does anybody know what it means?

  • My MB Air makes a single beep-sound!

My MB Air (mid 2012) keeps making a single beep-sound every 2 or 3 minutes, even when I shuted it down. I don't know why. Can anyone help?

1 tone, a 5-second pause, repeat = No RAM installed
Bad RAM on logic, its permanent and cannot be replaced, the logic would have to be changed.
    SMC reset and re verify
    SMC reset
    Shut down the computer.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
Note: The LED on the MagSafe power adapter may change states or temporarily turn off when you reset the SMC.

  • Long single beep noise on startup.

When I started up my MacBook Pro after a software update (EFI and Thunderbolt software), it made a long single beep noise, then showed the Apple logo with a progress bar below it, then flashed the screen, and went to the regular startup with the Apple logo.
I have a MacBook Pro 17", that was purchased 2 months ago, and running Mac OS X 10.7.1 (Lion).
Is this long beep a problem? If yes, what could be the problem?
    Thanks,
    Satyarth.

No problem, your firmware was updated.
A long tone will be heard, then a gray screen with an Apple logo appears. There is a progress bar under the logo. As the progress bar moves, your firmware is being updated.

  • Single Beep on Startup

    Hello,
I got a Macbook Pro today and while restarting after updating the firmware I heard a loud and single beep. Then after, the Apple logo came up along with a status bar and after the bar was filled the computer restarted and I was able to use it normally again. Is this a major issue? What is the problem? Should I take it in for service?

    Erick:
A single beep indicates a RAM issue. See Power On Self-Test Beep Definition - Part 2.

  • Single Beep, Display cuts out, then comes back

I've had my macbook for a little over a year. Recently the hard drive died. I replaced it, and figured I'd put new memory in it while I was at it (2GB, Samsung). For a while I ran 10.4 (I was on vacation and didn't have access to my external), and everything seemed to work fine. When I finally got back to my apartment and restored my system with Time Machine, things started off well, but then some weird things started happening. First, when I installed new updates, my computer restarted itself a couple times during the installation (after the initial restart), but then stopped, and installation was successful. I figured things had resolved themselves, but then I started getting these weird problems.
When I close my macbook, it goes into standby, but will sometimes start up randomly while still closed. Also, when I go to open it, it will sometimes load, only to cut out again, make a single loud beep, and then come back and boot up fine.
I've read that a single beep usually means a RAM issue, but I'm curious if the problem is maybe with my system, and I should reformat, since it seemed to run fine with 10.4.
Hopefully I've been detailed enough, but let me know if you need more info. Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Not resolved!

  • Late-2005 Mini; Continual Single Beep after Chime

Late 2005 mini has a steady single beep after chime.
It will not boot from CD and won't eject the CD.
Open Firmware command "eject cd" gives an EJECT error after a long wait.
(I took it apart to remove the CD).
From what I've found so far, a single beep every and no chime indicates a memory error but I couldn't find any mention of continual beeping. The power LED remains does not blink. My Mini sounds like a heart monitor!
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Try other RAM...
Can you count the beeps or flashes?
1 beep = no RAM installed
2 beeps = incompatible RAM types
3 beeps = no good banks
4 beeps = no good boot images in the boot ROM (and/or bad sys config block)
5 beeps = processor is not usable
In addition to the beeps, on some computers the power LED will flash a corresponding number of times plus one. The LED will repeat the sequence after approximately a 5-second pause. The tones are only played once.
Note: In this case, a flash is considered to be 1/4 second or 250 ms or greater in length.

  • Single beep problem after freez

I'm using macbook pro mid 2010 unibody. I has 2.4Ghz Core 2 duo processor and 2GB Ram eith 1033Bus speed. after open my macbook if i try to open any app it sometime freezes. show a dark/white screen. after few minutes it restarts and the single beep happens and it continues. After upgradation to meveric Its untolarable. I tried SMC reset and PRAM reset. And always my ram usge shows 1.99GB

              • 1 tone, repeating every 5 seconds: This indicates no RAM is installed.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2538
It could be a logic board issue, the RAM modules, or just the RAM modules not seated properly.
You can try reseating the memory.
MacBook Pro: How to remove or install memory - Support - Apple
    support.apple.com/kb/ht1270
It is not hard to reseat or replace the memory.  You can find a video tutorials at ifixit.com.
If that does not work or if you are not comfortable open the Mac take it to an Apple Store for a free diagnosis and estimate of repairs.
    Genius reservation http://www.apple.com/retail/geniusbar/ .
or find an Apple Authorized Service Provider https://locate.apple.com/country
If they say it is a memory issue you could take this opportunity to upgrade the RAM to 4 or 8 GB.  2 GB is small for running Mavericks and you would notice a significant speed boost if you upgrade to more memory.
OWC (macsales.com) and Crucial.com are good sources for buying the correct memory that is Mac supported and guaranteed for life.

  • Tx 2000 Single beep then shutdown

When I startup I here a single beep then shutdown, if it starts After several attempts the screen stays blank...

    Hi,
Normally one short beep means "DRAM refresh failure- The programmable interrupt timer or programmable interrupt controller has probably failed". Please refer to this to fix:

  • Firefox freezes then makes a single beep when viewing webpages.

I have been getting a problem with Firefox for a while not. I don't remember exactly when it started happening. However, the problem is when I load a webpage and scroll down it will freeze. Then, I will get a single beep from the computer. It does this all the time. Is there any way to fix it? Please let me know.

    hi,
Try disabling '''Use Autoscrolling''', '''Use Smooth Scrolling''' and '''Use hardware acceleration...''' in '''Tools''' (or '''Alt''' + '''T''') > '''Options''' > '''Advanced''' > '''General''', if they are enabled.

  • H61M-P25 (B3) wont POST - Single beep

I recently purchased the above motherboard and cannot get it to POST. The board emits a single beep after power up. I have tried difference PSU's, RAM and removed the HDD, keyboard, mouse etc and left only the bare minimum connected.
The green sticker on the BIOS chip reads E7680 IMSP00 which I think indicates that the board has the initial release P00 BIOS installed. The chip I purchased to go with the board in a G630 and the only other chip I have available to test with is an i3-2100. Both these chips require BIOS S00 according to the compatibility chart.
Can anyone tell me if I am missing something obvious or if I should return the board for replacement?

  • Ps4 beeping when turned off

does anyone elses ps4 keep beeping when turned off(not in standby mode)

Hey everyone, I don't know if any of you have already solved this problem, but if not I hope you get to read this and try it out because it worked for me. So, just like most of you here, I used to have my PS4 beeping randomly while it was off, on, suspended; it also did that fan-like sound, as if it was trying to read a disc when nothing was in, and wouldn't let me insert one. The first time this happened to me was when I moved my PS4 from it's original position (my room) in order to play in a bigger TV. After that, the beeping begun and it never stopped (I mean fully) until a few days ago. Basically what I did was to remove two rubber triangles that the PS4 has on it's bottom. One at the front, and one at the back. Here is a picture of both of them: http://i169.photobucket.com/albums/u214/Z-Ron/DSC_0264_zpslkpbdeyl.jpg Apparently, when you use the PS4 horizontally, and depending on which surface you have it placed, this two guys can make enough pressure on the over-sensitive eject button, that it makes the console flip out and torture us with it's screeches. Maybe the rubber at the back doesn't matter, but I took it out as well just to be safe. Anyway, since then the beeping finally ended, so I hope this works for you too.   Sorry for any misspelling!

  • My macbook pro (13 in, mid-2010) failed to boot with single beep. Reset PRAM, now it's working normally. Should I still be worried/take it in?

Okay so my mbp has had a couple minor freakouts lately, particularly while streaming video (the screen would turn one solid color and the only solution was to reboot) then today I opened my laptop and was in the process of entering my password when the screen shut off. The computer attempted to reboot, failed, told me there was a problem and it was trying again, and a bunch of weird text appeared over the gray boot screen. I turned it off, and when I tried to turn it back on again, it wouldn't boot and instead emitted a low beep once every 5 seconds accompanied by a flashing light on the front. I read that it was a RAM problem so I did the hold down P R command control (or something) and restarted it and now it's working normally.
But should I be worried? Should I still take it in? Is there some sort of memory diagnostic I should run?
    Any help would be appreciated.

Which model MacBook Pro do you have (e.g., "15-inch Late 2011")?
Oops! Should have read the header! There are no known issues affecting that particular model and I would only take it in for testing if it begins to exhibit similar problems again. You may have 'fixed' it with a NVRAM reset. But just be on the look-out for further glitches and, if they occur, then take the machine into your local Apple Store or AASP.

  • IMac Won't start up and beeps when turning power on.

So last night, I got the gray screen that said I needed to turn off the power to my iMac. I powered down and upon turning it back on, I got a blank screen with three (I'm pretty sure it was three) beeps followed by a pause and then three more beeps. From what I've read, I think this means there is a RAM issue.
Any advice or suggestions before I contact support??
    Thanks
