Single Click to Download File - Auto Rename if Conflicting File Exists in Downloads Folder

I am trying to migrate from Safari. However, one of THE most important features that I simply can't do without, is the one click "Download Linked File" right click contextual menu item. This together with the auto-rename file action if a name conflict exists within the downloads folder, to which you are saving the file.
Is there a way to do this in FF? All I can locate is"Save Link As" and then you have to either click to save or manually rename the file if there is a conflict. This is a real pain - I am happy to allow duplicate filenames for certain files.
Hopefully someone can point me in the right direction - needs to be an absolute one click solution from contextual menu via an add on or something.
Thanks

As I recall, DownThemAll is able to do this. You first have to configure it to rename files when a file with the same name already exists. Then you should be able to use the context menu option labeled “DTA OneClick!” or some such.

  • Auto renaming of the tags when adding new folder

    When I want to add new music to iTunes list, I open the file menu and select "add new folder".
    That way it imports the songs in that folder. The problem is that it renames some the info of albums. Instead of the name of the track, there appears "artist - name of the track". Funny thing is that when I click on "Edit information" it switches back to the correct name.
    But if I add a folder with 500 songs, and I have to click "Edit inforrmation" on half of them to make them use the correct name it isn't funny anymore.
    If the name isn't "corrected" when I sync the iPod, the incorrect names are uploaded.
    Is there any way to correct that and make iTunes use the correct name at once?
    Note that I'm using the spanish version of iTunes and the names of the menus and options are a translation and may not be accurate
    Thanks for your help
    AMD 64   Windows XP   Using spanish version of iTunes

    I noticed something similar:
    If you change tags of a file which is in your iTunes library in another program (e.g. Winamp), you have to edit the file in iTunes afterwards to make these changes "active". It seems that iTunes makes its own database with the tag informations (otherwise everything would be much slower like in Winamp, which is terribly slow with my database of 28.000 mp3-files) and only updates this database when you edit the file.
    I don't know why this happens with newly imported files but a possible solution to your problem which isn't too time consuming would be to select all the newly imported files and right click and edit the information for all of them, change nothing and exit again.

  • Single Click in Finder Opens Everything :(

    We're having the oddest problem I've ever seen in 20+ years using macs.
    This machine I'm on lately started acting funny. When I click in the finder on any document, a single click to select or highlight automatically opens the file, as if I double-clicked.
    I can't select a file to change it's name, for example. I have to Get Info and change the name that way, becuase no matter what I do the files open with a single click/select.
    I have altered the mouse settings in SP and it doesn't change the result. I also switched mouses to make sure it's not that.
    I really don't want to re-install the system, but is that probably what needs to happen?
    Has anybody ever heard of this and have any ideas?
    Thanks much!

    Hi BulaRae,
    Have you tried creating a new account and see how your Finder works in that User acct? (That will tell if your problem is systemwide or limited to your User acct.)
    Open System Preferences > Accounts > "+" make it an admin account.
    If this works, then log back into your problem account and navigate to ~(yourHome)/Library/Preferences and trash these two files:
    com.apple.finder.plist
    com.apple.sidebarlists.plist
    Then log out and back in again. Or restart.
    (You will have to reset a few finder prefs the way you like them.)
    Let us know.

  • Are Renamed Files or Renamed Folders backed up again?

    Does Time Machine perform any sort of Content oriented backups to the TM volume? I seem to remember reading somewhere that it did, but only at the file level. In other words, is the entire file or group of files backed up again if:
    1. The file is renamed?
    2. An enclosing parent folder is renamed?
    3. File attributes have changed? If so, is the whole file backed up again?
    4. Only a resource fork is changed? If so, is the whole file backed up again?
    5. Duplicate files with different names or different locations?
    If there is no commonality processing to avoid backing up data more than once like DataDomain or EMC Avamar, might there be in the future?

    none of us here work for apple so we wouldn't have any idea but I extremely doubt it.

  • Write into existing file with "write to text file"

    Hi all,
     I have a text file that contains several lines of data (text). Now I would like to replace the first three lines with text coming from a string array.
    My approach is shown in WriteToFile.vi that is attached.
    When I am executing this vi (with an empty file), everything seems to be working fine in the first place.
    The file will contain the following text:
    oneoneone
    twotwotwo
    threethreethree
    Now, when the third element in the array is shortened (lets say to "threethr") before execution,  the file will contain  the following text:
    (the file was not emptied before execution)
    oneoneone
    twotwotwo
    threethr
    three
    How can I avoid the last line being written? I have made many tests and I could not find a solution.
    One more example:
    Lets say we have an existing file, inside this file is:
    oneoneone
    twotwotwo
    three
    fourfourfour
    Now I would like to overwrite line three with "threethreethree". Therefore I execute my vi as shown in the attachment.
    What I get as a result is:
    oneoneone
    twotwotwo
    threethreethree
    ur
    So, the text in line four, which should not be touched, is "ur" instead of "fourfourfour".
    Any idea to solve this problem?
    What I basically need is replacing a line of a text file in a conveinient way.
    Thanks,
    Holger

    The remaining fourth line is there because the third line has a <nl> at the end. You have not emptied the file so the rest of the file will be kept. This is because your line is shorter.
    In the scond example the third line is longer and it will overwrite the beginning of the fourth line.
    Files aren't organized in lines they are oganized in bytes. And what you write are bytes to the file even with text files.
    Replacing a single line in a file is done by reading the file line by line. All unchanged lines are written to a temporary file and the line with the new text will be written instead of the original line to the temporary file. When the writting is done rename the original file, then rename the new file into the original file and then delete the renamed original file.

  • How to detact if a file exist in a folder

    How can I detact a file (a jpg or flv) exists in a folder?
    The script that I can think of so far is like this,
    var filename:String= "videos/vid test 0110.flv";
    if (filename){
    trace("well done");
    }else{
    trace("sorry");
    Please help me on this problem if you know....
    Thanks.
    Lau

    Sorry I have to rephrase the word - detect - to "check",
    sounds more pricisely...
    How can I check a file (a jpg or flv) exists in a folder?
    for instance flash can check if there is an instance exist or
    not on the timeline, for example a movie clip is called myMovie_mc.
    if (myMovie_mc){
    trace("myMovie_mc exist");
    }else{
    trace("sorry myMovie_mc doesnot exist");
    This is checking the instance on the timeline... but what I
    need is the check if a file (a flv file) exists or not in a folder
    outside the fla file.
    If that flv does exist in that folder ("videos" I called it),
    then the flash will take some actions. if it does not exist, then
    flash will do something else, like gotoAndPlay("default Intro").
    It will be much appreciated if anyone of you can sort this
    problem out for me.

  • Is it possible to trigger download of more than one file in a single click.

    Hi
    Is there a way to initiate download of multiple files by a single click on Button ? I have a download button in my page which on clicking initiates download of a single file. I have a usecacse, where i need trigger downnload of 2/3 files with the same single click. Is it possible ?
    Thanks in advance.

    On solution would be to zip the multiple files into one and send this to the client.
    An other possible way (never tested this) is to use the click on the button to send the files in a sequence. You send the first file, then queue a click onto a hidden button to send the next and repeat this until all files are send. I'm not sure how the client reacts, e.g. if the second file is send while the first file still needs to be accepted on the client or if the user first has to accept the file, download it and then get the next dialog.
    For a sample of how to queue a click onto a hidden button you can check http://tompeez.wordpress.com/2011/07/14/validate-data-before-export-via-afexportcollectionactionlistener-or-affiledownloadactionlistener/

  • Safari 1.3.2 (v312.6) Auto Download when single clicking

    Dear Apple Forum,
    A strange malfunction happened this morning.
    I visited 2 websites and when I single clicked on a button the entire page was downloaded to my computer when abviously not instructed to.
    I shutdown my computer ran Disk Utility and rebooted.
    Is this a "one off" glitch? First time it's happened to me! Hope it's the last.

  • Download Helper, even with paid converter upgrade, gives "Invalid Capture File" errors and will not record audio, with "File Creation Error - Unable to rename/copy audio file" Error.

    Download Helper Screen Capture worked to capture video if the default "no audio" option is active. But, no audio. The "speakers" or "microphone" audio options are confusing....the audio to be captured is from the video, so what do you choose? With either "speakers" or "microphone" selected, the captured file has poor audio and no video. Re-capture efforts (speakers) get "Invalid capture file error" and "File Creation error- Unable to rename/copy audio file"
    The paid upgrade of "Converter" doesn't work.
    Instructive documentation - not very good.
    Suggestions - Need time delay between initiation of "Record" and starting the video to be recorded.
    Could use timer tracking of the record process.
    Are there operating system limitations? (Have Windows XP Pro)

    That is an issue for the developer of that Download Helper.

  • Can I download a file in different sessions or should it be in a single session? In other words can I pause the download of a file, shutdown/restart my system and then resume download from where I left off? Or will it start from the very beginning?

    If a server supports resuming downloads then the download should continue where it left off.<br />
    You can test that by simple starting a large download and wait a minute or so before pausing it.<br />
    Then you can close and restart Firefox and see if resuming works.
    You can set the pref browser.download.manager.quitBehavior to 2 on the about:config page.<br />
    That will make Firefox ask for confirmation if you want to cancel the download if you close Firefox.

  • Single click in file open dialogs in KDE4.1

    Hi,
    In my KDE 4.1, there's something that doesn't seem right:
    If in system settings, mouse&keyboard, I set the option "Double-click to open files and folders", then it doesn't actually  listen to that setting.
    In a file open dialog, it opens a file already with a single click. This makes it very hard to select multiple files in the dialog (e.g. when opening files with kate), because if you press CTRL and click on the file, instead of just making a selection of it, it opens that 1 file and closes the file open dialog.
    Is this really the intention? How can I select multiple files that are not all below each other?
    Is it the intention that it doesn't listen to the double click setting? And is it the intention that the behaviour is inconsistent with any other desktop environment? I mean, they didn't just change something universally accepted, right?

    I mean if I just use the below script, it works.
    getURL("javascript:loadintoIframe('myframe',
    'v_vista_b5.html')");
    but if I want to control 2 iframes in one clicking, it
    doesn't work(it basically load only the second statment, and skips
    the first). I'd like to know is it possible to combine below 2
    javascript into one?
    getURL("javascript:loadintoIframe('myframe',
    'v_vista_b5.html')");
    getURL("javascript:loadintoIframe('topframe',
    'top_v_vista_b5.html')");
    thanks again.

  • With 8.0 version of Firefox, clicking links to .tif files on a java web app are being downloaded as .ppt, .part.ppt., or .ppt.part. The change of name to PPT causes them to associate with powerpoint. IE opens the files normally as .tif as expected.

    When using java based webapp to view a remote directory, clicking .tif files offers the standard "Open" dialog. If you select open, an error is produced saying file is not a valid powerpoint file. Selecting download will download the file as a .ptt, .part.ppt, or .ppt.part file in the temp directory with a seemingly random unique filename as if the system was creating a temp file. Going to the same web app under Internet Explorer works properly and will view or download the file as a .tif image file. This had been working fine previously to the 8.0 update.
