Single Core CPU - REQUIREMENTS

Hi ALL Hope I'm in the right place this is a hard hardware isssue I can't seem to figure. Here's the deal: Old Toshiba Satellite (circa 2006) with Intel® Pentium® M Processor 780 (2M Cache, 2.26 GHz, 533 MHz FSB) with MMX instructions, SSE / Streaming SIMD Extensions, SSE2 / Streaming SIMD and 2 NX / XD / Execute disable bit. For the new guys out there - yeah this is old - it's single core. Remember those? OS win xp pro (32bit) 100% fully patched and with no failed updates. Just waiting to install the MS Skype update. So will this setup run Skype with a webcam and if it will which webcam should I buy?

You can run a webcam with that setup.  I would suggest you buy a webcam that is designed to run on a single core.  I would suggest getting at most a 720p camera or under [2Mbit video (not photo capture) or below] that is compatible with Windows XP.  The higher resolution a camera is capale of, the more likely it will attempt to negotiate ata a higher resolution which will result in more CPU consumption.  If you use a 720p camera and it determines to engage the higher resolution, don't be surprised if your CPU resources hit as high as 80% while on a call.  Then again, it might not try and you could be fine even with a high-end camera.  I would personally recommend getting a big brand name camera like a Microsoft Lifecam or Logitech series (I use both).  Getting a generic brand might work great on your computer as well but it may work too great providing too low a quality that is acceptable to you or others with no room for improvement in the hardware.

CPU driver is not the clue here .
OS needs to have SMP capabilities , that means a multi processor HAL installed .
Correct HAL is automaticly detected/installed during OS install .
So you would be looking at a repair install atleast as skippy say.
You can check if you have muliprosessor support already by looking at ACPI version properties tab in device manager.
But if XP is installed without forcing HAL (with F5) and selected ACPI Multiprocessor you have to reinstall/repair as it would
have ACPI Uniprocessor - supporting one CPU.

  • Flash playback on Atom single-core found in Netbooks

Has anybody ever been able to play flash on a Intel Atom single-core CPU found in many Netbooks with an acceptable performance?
Even medium resolution Flash from youtube is extremely choppy. Is it just me or am I just doing something wrong with this gear?

Hi, Many users with PC's and Mac have experienced video issues with the hardware acceleration feature in Flash Player. You might want to turn it off, since it's turned on by default. This is the Adobe test site. If there is an ad covering the Flash logo, just use the ad to Right click on.
http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/ and RIGHT click on the Flash Logo, click on Settings>
Display Settings and UNcheck the hardware acceleration feature.
I don't think the choppiness is related to your system specs. Since Flash Player is a browser plugin (ActiveX Control for IE) then any Toolbar, Anti-Virus and other addons can conflict with it and the browser itself. So you may want to pursue those if turning off the h.a. doesn't help.

  • Performance comparison---using LABVIEW..between Embedded and general-purpose Intel's single VS multi-core CPU

    hi guys;
kindly, can any one tell me : is it possible to use Labview installed on desktop pc to show up statistically the main performance key features between mutlicore systems and single core systems but with (two versions, embedded and general purpose CPU) . in other words: I'm trying to resemble embedded cpu with general purpose CPU so that i can only work on Desktop pc than say that the obtained results are the same for embedded multicore CPU.
to get things more clear:...embedded multicore processors are now hitting the embedded market segments such as (small and portable devices with internet, multimedia and wimax tech. enabled that take advantage of recent multicore tech.).
general-puroses Multicore processors: like desktop and servers based processors,
according to what 've read, Intel is producing same processor model but with different applications : (embedded and general-purposes applications)

    Hello,
Please look at this page which shows a new feature in LabVIEW 2009, but particularly interesting is the video which shows the performance benefits on a PC platform of single core VS multicore.
LabVIEW doesn't have any ability to emulate a multi-core embedded processor (unless its an intel x86 processor that labVIEW supports!) so to discover the performance benefits of embedded multicore processors, you would need an external hardware board and devise a test in which labVIEW can measure the timing via an external pin toggled by a program running on the embedded processor that could utilise multiple cores (there may be other ways but this is the way that comes to my mind).
    I hope this helps you!

  • Adobe Media Encoder only using single core of CPU (core parking has already been disabled and did not solve the problem)

I only edit videos every few months and the last time I edited a video was around 6-9 months ago.  At that time, I noticed AME was only using a single core of the CPU and contacted Adobe who instructed me to disable core parking, which worked.  After disabling core parking AME used 100% of all 12 logical cores to process the video and all was good.  Then last week, I decided to edit another video and noticed AME was very slow and checked and it was again only using a single core to process the video, but core parking is still turned off.  By slow I mean that a 10 minute video with the lens distortion correction preset and one video transition effect is estimated to take nearly 3 hours to complete.  For comparison, the GoPro software processed the same clip with the same effects in 20 minutes.  Also, through troubleshooting with Adobe over the last few days, I have also tried downloading previous versions of the software but the prior versions have the same issue.
The video I'm trying to edit was shot on a GoPro Hero 4 Black with 1080p Wide at 60 frames per second.  The default video format for GoPro is .mp4.   The output settings I'm using when I export from Premiere Pro to AME are H.264 with the YouTube 1080p HD.
    My system:
    ASUSSabertooth X79
Intel core i7 4930k (6 physical cores, 12 logical cores)
    16GB DDR3 Quad channel RAM
    Samsung 830 SSD 128GB
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460 (not CUDA compatible, I know)
Please ask if you need any additional information to help solve this problem.

This has been driving me CRAZY... so going over the message boards from 2 to 5 am this morning I found the best explanation I have seen.   The problem is that Adobe Creative Cloud is NOT "Processor Group Aware".  Windows parses any more than 36 cores into "Processor Groups" and while the Pro version of Windows 7 & 8 can handle 256 threads they have to spread them across multiple processor groups.
Simple Version:  AREA | How many cores does 3ds Max support?
    Microsoft's Explanation:  Processor Groups (Windows)
Clearly, this is an Adobe Problem... If any engineers are reading this PLEASE review the below and incorporate it into your next build of Creative Cloud!!!

  • Single core

    Hello,
I would like to ask if anyone could refer me to some reading material that explains the difference in recommended LabVIEW programming for single core and multi core machines?
Assuming I had a multi VI program that runs fine on a quad core, but barely runs on a single core. Obviously the quad core is more likely to provide better performance, but I am vaguely aware of the different programming methods which are more suitable for the respective type of cpu.
I do not ask for any specific help with any vi or issue, I would just like to read up on this subject. I looked around a little but did not find very much. Any links or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

I know of things to watch for when going from single core to multi-core but little "rings a bell" going the other way... EXCEPT adding a "zero-millisecond wait" to all loops. The presnece of a wait tell she secudler this loop can be interupted. Without the timer, LV will "read the code" as "please run as fast as possible, and if that means don't give up the CPU, so be it.".
See alos this search on "Cooperative multitasking".
    Ben
A wait is not always required. It won't hurt, but there are other pieces of code that will allow the scheduler to evaluate if other tasks are ready to run. If you have any queue or notifier VIs they will allow the scheduler to run as well. There are probably a few others. I am reasonably sure that any VI with a timeout input will allow the scheduler to run.

  • Oracle 12c CPU Requirement

Intend to install Oracle 12 on Linux 64 bit.
What is the recomended number of CPUs?  Generally speaking a higher number is preferred such as quadcore or higher.  But in the cloud enviroment, the more CPUs means the higher the price to pay, sometimes, the difference is quite significant between 1 CPU and 4 CPUs.
For a database (10 GB now, will grow) and moderate traffic, with occasional spike in concurrent access, any suggestion if the CPUs specs?
    Thanks
    Eugene

There is no correlation between your Oracle version and the number of CPU's required. As John said, it comes down to the application. Futhermore, its how the application's SQL statements use CPU when executing in the instance. With only 10GB of data, it may not need many CPU resources. Then again, if the app does lots of sorts and joins on all 10GB of this data, the CPU may be taxed.
It's getting harder and harder to find servers that have less than four cores. Its even harder to find a single-core desktop these days. The number of cores does affect your licensing so try to get the minimum that can serve your needs. Only adequate testing can bear that out.

  • ENVY 15t-1100 CTO (NX346AV) Dual core CPU upgrade?

    Hello Experts,
I have the Laptop noted above (15t-1100 CTO) and I would like to replace the quad core i7-i820QM CPU (its a Clarksfield variant of Nehalem - Socket G1) with a faster (more power efficient) Dual Core CPU.  I purchased a i7 620M (more power efficient dual core also on Socket G1) and when installed in the laptop, it POSTS, but Windows will always crash 1/2 way through the boot, reguardless if I'm on the original install of the Windows 7 OS, or trying to boot a Windows 7/8 Install CD (via USB).  I feel that the board lacks support for this CPU (any of the dual core CPUs really), but I cannot find confirmation anywhere.  Also note, I had to remove 2 of the 4 ram sticks to even get this far (leaving a single ram stick on each channel.. I'm assuming partly due to the dual core supporting only 2 memory chanels.
    Please advise

  • CS4 and single core processors

    Hi,
I have a Mac Mini with a 1.5 GHz Intel single core processor and i want to buy Creative Suite 4 Web Standard to use on it.
But when i read the requirements for CS4 it mentions that a Mac should have the following:
PowerPC G4 or G5 or multicore Intel processor
Does CS4 work OK on a Intel single core processor?
Is a multicore processor specified because a small number of features benefit from it?
    Any advice would be appreciated.

I used InDesign CS4 for a while on a 1 Gig 800MHz G4 tiBook. It was reasonably satisfactory given that I knew I was working in an underpowered setup -- I've since replaced the tiBook with a MacBook Pro with 4 Gigs.
I think that if you stick to your "one app at a time" philosophy, you'll be happy enough with the Mac Mini. I think Adobe was just reducing the testing and support load it had to deal with by apparently excluding older processors.

  • Is MAC Pro (late 2013) compatible with Intel E5 or E7 Series 10 core CPU

Is MAC Pro (late 2013) compatible with Intel E5 or E7 series 10 core CPU?

    http://macperformanceguide.com/MacPro2013-CPU-upgrade.html
Someone did some testing and these Xeon processors scale differently, turbo-boost means it can put a core to sleep when it isn't needed and give more to the cores that are.
But, the number of apps that do use more than 8-core are in short supply.
Then there is the contention between cooling and whether the cpu or the twin GPUs get preference, OS X won't allow both to ask for full 100%.
We assume you know all there is about cpu scaling and usage and just need to see which ones are on Intel's list that are pin compatible and have the right thermal requirements and such.

  • For virtualization, what processor can replace Pentium(R) Dual-Core CPU T4500 of Compaq 620?

    Dear HP community,
I bought a Compaq 620 Energy Star notebook 3 years ago, and its processor is Pentium(R) Dual-Core CPU T4500, but without virtualization feature. For supporting virtualization etc features, can you recommend a suitable processor to replace it without replacing the other components, and the notebook still perform as well as before? Moreover, what tools are required to replace the processor?
Thank you very much for your help !

i did some research, it looks like that the compaq 620 energy star notebook can  be upgraded to have virtualization feature by only replace the CPU (support virtualization), without replaceing any other components, e.g. the motherboard. it is much appreciated if anyone can help to confirm this.
moreover, it is said that it is not good to replace the component like CPU of a notebook, because some of the notebook components are soldered to the motherboard, but i'm thinking this doesn't mean the notebook components can't be replaced. with the right tools, the right apporaches and with caution, the notebook components, like the CPU, can be replaced. it is much appreciated if any one can help to confirm this as well.
if only upgrade the CPU (with virtualization feature) which is supported by the current motherboard (compaq 620 energy star), can the whole notebook system support virtualization technology (including motherboard, BIOS, CPU etc)?
please do help to answer the above questions, and give me the firmed advice on upgrading the whole system to enable virtualization feature. i don't have enough budget to purchase the new computer system, so perfer to upgrade.
thank you very much for your help in deed !

  • Rendering MP4 with AME from After Effects is always single-core?

When I render MP4 from After Effects CC 2014.2 (by AME) then rendering always is slow and only single-core, despite that in AE prefs Multiprocessor rendering is set.
    Why?

I have made quick test now.
AE's Render Queue: render time 53s - average CPU load about 50% (12 cores, 8 rendering threads at this case) - 8 threads active in Process Explorer
AME Render: 2m08s - average CPU load about 20% (same machine) - 1 thread active in Process Explorer
(please note that this was simple project; at 8active/12total cores this should be 66% or even more total CPUs load, so probably much time was disk I/Os - if only was 50% of total CUP load)
    So essential question is:
Is AME CC 2014.2 renders AE projects as set in AE prefs in multiprocessing?
Or maybe there is separate option in AME to turn on multiprocessing on AE's projects?

  • Single Core vs. Dual Core - Temperature Differences

Does anyone else notice that CPU temperature is affected by turning off one of the cores using the apple CHUD tools? For me, the extensions report that it's running 15-20C hotter when I'm running single core. The case temperature seems to confirm this fact as well. Can someone with CHUD installed please try to duplicate this?
    I've got a stock 15.4" MBP 1.83GHz/512MB - W8613.
Macbook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

it also uses the battery more. I conjecture that disabling a processor also disables power management. This solves the hiss because the hiss is due to power management, but at the cost of more heat and battery usage.
I suggest using quietmbp rather than disabling a core.

  • Dual-Core or Single Core?

I wanted a new phone for my birthday. At first I wanted the Sony Xperia Play, but it didnt come out in time. I also see the reviews for the phone, and they dont look so good. So, I am now thinking about either the HTC Thunderbolt, or the HTC Incredible 2. But I realized that they both are single cores, not dual cores. Should I be caring for the amount of cores? I have an iPod Touch 3G, and I like the speed of that device. I'm not sure if it has dual core or single core, but i am fine with that speed. I also want an HTC because of HTC Sense. I like its UI better than Motorolas or Samsungs. And I dont feel like rooting the phone either (yet). So, should I be caring about the Dual Core or is a Single core fine?

If you're a tech nerd: wait for a dualcore, or you'll have CPU envy. If you're not a tech nerd, it honestly doesn't matter, get whichever phone has the features that matter to you (in this case, HTC Sense).
The Xperia Play makes me sad though... both because it's not out yet and because it's (so far) VzW-exclusive in the US V_V
