Single edition licence for iPhone, Android, Blackberry.....

As a smaller developer in it would be very useful to offer single edition licenses for a wide range of other devices. Moving up to the Pro Edition is quite a jump when you are first starting out and you can't prove a financial justification for the yearly payment of 4k plus.
There must be others like us who are starting to develop apps and need an initial soft financial start before taking a bolder step.

I definitely agree. More than anything, I wish I understood the discrepancy. Can anybody explain why it is relatively free to produce Apple apps (provided you're a CC member) but it costs $500/month to produce Android apps? The software to build them is the exact same, and the Apple apps actually have more functionality (in regards to the Folio Overlays that are not supported in droids, etc). I've been using DPS to great success to build some apps for my company, and they want to know why I can only build them for the iPad and not any other tablet.
Frankly, I'd like to know the same thing! Is there anyone out there who knows why there's such a monetary gap between these two seemingly identical tools? Or, better question, does anybody have a solution to converting an iapp into a tablet format that is less expensive?
Thanks -

  • If we upgrade to a Professional Edition DPS license can we create an unlimited number of Single edition apps for iPad, iPhone and Android devices?

I work for a organisation based in Sydney and we have a team license for creative cloud (single edition).
We have been producing single folio apps for the iPad and want to continue this through 2015.
At the moment we can only create apps for the iPad platform.  If we upgrade to a Professional Edition DPS license can we create an unlimited number of Single edition apps for iPad, iPhone and Android devices?
We do not need multi-folio apps as we are not a publishing company.

    Thanks Neil
I sent an email yesterday and am awaiting a reply.  Here is my email for reference.

I work for a large organisation based in Sydney and we have a team license for creative cloud (single edition).
We have been producing single folio apps for the iPad through Indesign and the App builder.  We now want to produce apps for iPhone, iPad and Android devices.
If we upgrade to a Professional Edition DPS license can we create an unlimited number of apps for iPad, iPhone and Android devices?
We are not a publishing company so we will produce a small number of the apps.  If you could get back to me with a solution and approx price that would be great.
    Thanks for your time

  • Single Edition Licence with CC

I plan to subscribe to a single app licence for Creative Cloud (for InDesign CS6). Will I still be able to publish single edition apps through DPS with this Creative Cloud model, or do I have to have the full membership (all apps)?
    Thanks

While a single app subscription would give you access to InDesign, it would not give you more for DPS than access to the tools which we make available for free to everyone using InDesign CS5 and later. Please keep in mind that's only the tools to help create your folio layouts but not to publish it.
To publish your content in places such as the Apple store, you would need to either get the full suite subscription of the Cloud, or purchase them separately.
Personally I would recommend the full Cloud subscription given that it is a $49.99 fee for unlimited apps, compared to the individual rate of Single Edition at $395 each.

  • Building SAP applications for iPhone, Android etc.

    Hi All,
We have a requirement for building SAP online and offline applications for iPhone, Android, Windows phone. These applications would interface with SAP backend (ERP) for fetching data or for executing simple tasks like approvals etc.
We have developed thin client (online) applications using Webdynpro Java for Blackberry users. These applications are browser based applications (deployed on SAP Netweaver WAS) and are accessed through Blackberry browser. What I am not sure is whether the same approach/technology like Webdynpro for Java would work for handhelds like iPhone, Android and Windows phones.
Secondly whether vendors (like Apple) of iPhones, Android etc. provide specific connectors or frameworks for building SAP online/offline applications (or in other words what would be the mechanism for integrating iPhones, Android with SAP)
Lastly how (technology, architecture etc.) are SAP thick client or offline applications built for iPhone, Android etc.
Any pointers would be of great help.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Suresh

    Hi Philipp,
Thanks for your quick response. When you say integrating with "Integrating Custom Client with DOE", do you mean the usage of SAP Mobile Infrastructure (now know SAP NetWeaver Mobile).
We are mainly looking at building online (thin client) applications and also parallely at building offline or thick client applications but that is second in priority.
What we have done so far
We have developed thin client (online) applications using Webdynpro Java (which interface with SAP backend systems)
for Blackberry users. These applications are browser based applications and are accessed through Blackberry browser. We are looking at similarly building applications for iPhone, Android and Windows phones probably using the same technology like Webdynpro Java.  But we are not sure how well it would work on iPhone, Android etc. Also we were exploring to see if these vendors (iPhone, Android) provide some sort of connectors or framework for quickly developing and deploying SAP mobile thin client applications.
Please note that we are aware that using webservices in one generic approach.
Once again thank you very much for your response.
    Regards,
    Suresh

  • Single Edition Extension for Android/Kindle

Assuming that Single Edition is meant as  trial run for the Professional Edition, the main thing that's lacking is the ability to test all platforms.

    Thanks for the reminder.
However, other posts seemed a bit ambivalent on this point.
For example http://forums.adobe.com/message/4033874#4033874 states "Multi-Folio-Apps are currently possible (only with Pro Edition) on Android. They are relatively small (2-5 MB) and the .folios are coming from the adobe servers (download costs!)."
Generally speaking, I had assumed that the large size of DPS apps was something Adobe would be working on reducing... is that hopelessly naive of me?
Is there a single source somewhere on this site that explains app size -- how much is basic fixed overhead from Adobe DPS technology, how much is variable overhead by article, and how much can be influenced by app creator through design and content choices?

  • Bbm for iphone, android makes bb user fools

Bbm for iphones, and androids were free with their normal data cost, but for blackberry users have to put bbm plan seperatly for messaging, it really sucks, its like wife charging her husband for sex but gives free sex to the whole city.......really wierd

And, everyone else pays for data as well... those on iOS and Android pay for data.

  • How do I get my iPad single edition articles into my android App?

    Hi,
I'm in troubles getting an android version of my reader app up and running.
I have an iPad app (1024x768) that works well.
It is published as a single edition app with my Creative Cloud account.
Now I wanted to release an Android version.
    That's what I did:
-I tried my iPad app with the android content viewer on my device (nexus 7): it scaled down but it was okay
    -I bought a Professional edition.
-I created a multi edition app container with the DPS App Builder
    - The DPS App Builder did not accept my Adobe ID, but required an application ID which I created.
-I created the apk file and copied it to my device (Nexus 7)
-I opened the app on the device - it was empty.
-I shared the folio of my iPad app from my main adobe id to the new application ID, then I copied it with my application ID in the folio producer organizer to a new folio and uploaded some articles again. But the app on the device remained empty.
-I made a brand new folio and imported a new article . Butmy android app remained empty
What do I have to do to see folios in my android app?
    Thanks you
                Hans

It sounds like you need to publish the folio as Public. Only public published folios appear in a custom viewer app.

  • Can you publish a DPS single edition app to the android and googleplay marketplace?

I can't find a simple answer anywhere. On one of the pages it says "Publish everywhere- Every device, every platform' but it does not confirm whether this is possible for single edition apps or how it can be done. Can anyone help? Much appreciated.

Hi, this is iPad only. Please see this table: Digital Publishing Suite Help | DPS supported feature list

  • Single Edition Licence with Creative Cloud

Do you have to subscribe to the full version (all apps) of creative cloud to be able to publish single edition apps with DPS? Or will a single app subscription to InDesign allow you to publish unlimited SE apps too?
    Thanks

Thanks for the reply Himanshu, that is a great help.
So can I just clarify.  I can publish unlimited different apps from different folio files to the app store as a cc member.
I got confused with the below comment i found on Adobe's site:
Adobe via email that will allow you to submit one single-.folio file to Apple's iTunes App Store for publication.

  • No more single edition access for CC members... fail.

I really think Adobe should reconsider this decision. Single Editions are a great entry point into digital publishing and particularly for magazine designers with Creative Cloud. Its been useful for me to learn and also work with many clients, and has been a godsend to be honest.
At the very least, charge us a fee, say £149 per app creation, or something like £600 per year for unlimited. Surely that would bring in revenue for Adobe?
Keen to know how this can be resolved - Epub is not the answer. And neither is buying a DPS 'Pro' license (or whatever the product is called now!).
    Thanks.

Agree with all my haert! To me - as a paying Creative Cloud member - it's is much more than just a 'nuisance'. Adobe reconsider this, ànd provide us - exisiting, paying customers - with an equal alternative! Calling with the Support of Adobe (kind but totally unaware of this 1 May 2015 delete) did not know of this Adobe move and could not provide me with adequate info on alternative possibilities or pricings. Should I look for non-Adobe solutions?!

  • A few quick questions about publishing for iPhone/Android

I'm currently developing an iPhone/Android game in CS5 and I just have a few quick questions.  If anyone can answer even one or two I'd really appreciate it
1- I'm developing using a 320 x 480 resolution for the iphone.  When I tested it, the status bar on the top of the screen makes the edges disappear.  How should I turn off the status bar?  And if I can't what resolution should I use?
2- The performance is a little slow, and the game isn't very intense at all.  What's a good way to improve performance?
3- For Android, what should I do for the resolution?  Is there a standard resolution or do I have to have multiple resolutions for multiple devices?
4- Finally, is it worth getting the free trial of CS5.5 before I publish?  Is there anything in there that will be a huge improvement over CS5?
    All help is appreciated

    1. Publish in fullscreen
    2. Use bitmaps, cache all bitmaps, use minimized looping structure etc.
        http://www.yeahbutisitflash.com/?p=986
    3. Android: 480 * 800
    4. Not that much, but you have GUI updates and have a GUI publishing screen for packager for iphone too.

  • Help Uploading Apps Ont market place for apple/Android/Blackberry

So we are currently in the Pre-Release program with adobe and we have a few questions that we need to know ASAP
With the prerelease we do not have access to the online viewer builder
But we do have access to the content bundler and viewer builder off the desktop programs.
Our main question is can we make multiple apps within one Adobe Id?
Our Magazine needs to have issues that fit different screen sizes. So we have made different stacks that fit each different tablet. We already made different stacks that fit the many aspect rations of the different devices such as: IPAD (1024x768), XOOM (1280X800) and BLACKBERRY PLAYBOOK (1024X600).
We used the Content Bundler to Create the Ipad app for a multi Folio to have a Retail issue as well as a free one.  Then we used the viewer builder to export the zip file to send to Apple. Which is currently waiting for approval. Our next step was to create the multi folio to fit android devices. So we put all the stacks together and eventually made a free issue and a retail issue. Now in the main tab it shows 4 different Issues; 2 for the ipad (1024X768) and 2 for the xoom (1280X800).
So we then tried making a viewer for an android device through our account in the viewer builder. After linking all the certificates and filling everything out we eventually made an .apk file. The thing is now it shows all 4 issues instead of just the 2 that fit the android xoom device.
Our main question is if we delete the 2 Ipad versions in the Content bundler under the manage tab, will that effect the App that we sent to apple? or should that be fine because we exported it as a zip file?
We also want to create other applications for other Android devices (With different screen sizes). So would we just have to continually delete things off the content builder through the manage tab or is there another way to do this?
If any of you know any information about this let me know
    On another question.
Now if we want to upload to Blackberry's market place they said we need to have a .bar file. so how do we make that in the viewer builder on the desktop (the prerelease version) because it only lets us make .apk files or .zip????

If you're still using prerelease software, go over to the prerelease forum. Search for "renditions" in the user guide PDF, and read about how you can create various folio renditions. When you create folio renditions of different sizes, the viewer picks the right rendition based on the viewer dimensions. If you're using the current tools to create renditions, the information is here:
    http://help.adobe.com/en_US/digitalpubsuite/using/WS9293e1fb3b977c5c-2337961812e35738f56-8 000.html
One important note. When you create folios for the Xoom, account for the 48-pixel navigation bar that's part of the Honeycomb interface. For a dual-orientation folio, create a custom 1232x752 folio and document size.

  • Single Edition pricing for a DPS Pro account

We have launched a free Single Edition app thru our DPS Pro account - (in App Builder selected the Single Edition tab)

  • Creating Help for Iphone/Android app

I need to create help for an iPhone and Android app using RoboHelp 10.
Which option do I choose for a New Project: Blank Project or Application Help?
And, which output do I choose under "File > Generate"? I see an option for "Native Mobile App." But, I'm not seeing a "Multiscreen HTML5" option.
Which file do I give the developer?
    Thanks for your help!

That's a pretty big question and you haven't given us any clues such as which version of RoboHelp you are using and whether it is just this form of help that is new to you or help in general.
It doesn't really matter whether you choose Blank Project or Application Help as they are just starters with different default topics and you will be trashing them anyway. For now let's say start with Blank Project and create your topics. You do need to keep in mind they will be viewed on various devices. More about that later.
When that is done you start thinking about creating a suitable output. Multiscreen HTML5 is the output in RoboHelp 10. RoboHelp 11 was released today and that has a new output, Responsive HTML5. That is simpler, especially first time out. Both of those types are intended for use where they will be viewed via a browser, be that on a desktop or a mobile device.
It is not clear whether you want your company's app to access help in that way or whether the need is for the help to be an app in its own right. The latter adds another layer of learning. Essentially after creating an HTML5 output, you use the script to create an app. From the questions you ask, I suspect you will need developer assistance with that.
Start by viewing my page at http://www.grainge.org/pages/authoring/html5/html5.htm where you can download a project with information inside, include some ideas about how to write content.

  • How do you get around the single syncing capacity for iPhones?

Syncing my phone to my new computer will erase all of the current music which I don't have a back up too. My old computer died with its vast collection of music from years ago going down the toilet with it, how can I sync without losing my irreplaceable collection a lot of which I will not purchase back and can't because the music isn't on itunes.
I find it extremely frustrating that the iPhone is only allowed to sync with one computer unlike the iPod Touch, its impossible for me to transfer all of my music onto one computer. I just want to have a single library which I can access from several computers, I would like to see improvements in the system regarding this issue.

Syncing my phone to my new computer will erase all of the current music which I don't have a back up too.
You can avoid deleting the iTunes library on your phone when syncing to another computer with the following method:
    1. Disable automatic syncing on connection - iTunes Prefs > Devices > Disable....
    2. Start iTunes and connect phone.
    3. Right click your device tab (left side of iTunes window) and select "Transfer Purchases." This will transfer all iTunes store purchased music, media and apps to the new computer. It won't transfer non-iTunes store music/media that you ripped yourself.
    4. It's now safe to sync your phone without losing your purchased media and apps.
This is no substitute for regularly backing up your iTunes library on your PC.
I would like to see improvements in the system regarding this issue.
