Single finger swipe left on magic mouse in browser no longer goes back a page

Since upgrading to Mavericks, the single finger swipe left gesture to go back a page in a browser (tested in Safari and FireFox) no longer works. Anybody know how to bring it back?
Thanks,
doug

Yes, I just noticed and fixed that too. Mavericks reset the gestures > more > browser swipe button. I checked the single finger swipe and it's working again.
Thanks,
doug

  • How can I disable 4-finger swipe left/right?

How can I disable 4-finger swipe left/right?  I map these to far more useful keystrokes in BTT; my mappings still work but it also switches, rendering them effectively useless.  This was working for me in Lion until I did an update a couple of days ago.  Every other gesture is in trackpad config except these 2.

That actually was disabled in my settings for me so I didn't think so.  But I went and enabled/disabled it with no result.  I then switched it to 3 fingers from 4 fingers and back again and now it's gone.  Knowing what to search for I found this thread, it seems other have had the same problem; thanks for pointing me in the right direction:

  • My mid 2010 Mac running yosemite lock has recently started to lock up when I do a swipe on the magic mouse to scroll a web page

My mid 2010 Mac running yosemite has recently started to lock up when I do a swipe on the magic mouse to scroll a web page. Anybody having a similar experience?  I believe I've taken the last update to Yosemite within the last several weeks but this behavior did not start in concurrence with any system maintenance events.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your documents or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this behavior; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Please take this step regardless of the results of Step 1.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled in OS X 10.9 or earlier, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of Steps 1 and 2.

  • Mighty mouse randomly goes back a page in Safari???

So I have a 2 month old iMac which came with the very sleek and sexy new mighty mouse. As comfortable as it is, I want to throw out a window. It randomly goes back a page on me all the time (even once as I was writing this very topic!!) as if i had right-clicked and chosen back. But I didn't, I swear it! No menu ever shows, and I can never ever repeat it on purpose. Doesn't seem to happen in Firefox for some reason but I don't use it often and again, can't make the issue occur. I have lost so much written text and time to this and am about to go back to the previous magic mouse. I cannot figure out why this keeps happening. Also finding the mouse absurdly sensitive in general no matter how the settings are configured.
Is this happening to anyone else?? Any ideas why?? Thanks.
(sorry if this should be posted elsewhere but there's no section for accessories as far as I could see)

It's been 24 hours since I fixed the disk permissions and reset safari with no repeat incidents (fingers crossed)! Thanks so much! Seems so obvious but I was convinced it was the mouse itself. Thanks again

  • Unable to swipe/scroll using Magic Mouse in OSX 10.6.2

    Hi guys,
I recently purchased (20.12.09) a MacBook Pro 17" Unibody which came preloaded with OSX 10.6.2. I tried to bluetooth sync my Magic Mouse with it tonight and, despite the fact it recognises the mouse and allows it to perform the usual left and right-finger clicks, it does not permit scrolling or swipe functions. Also, in the System Preferences menu, the mouse doesn't show up with Magic Mouse "options"...it only shows up with generic mouse functions. The computer basically thinks it is a standard two button mouse with a wheel on it, I think - the strange thing is, however, that the touchpad DOES work, as I can right-click...the scroll/swipe functions do not work though, as stated.
I have had a read over various threads and topics here and on the broader Internet about this problem, but all discussions seem to give the impression that 10.6.2 was designed to natively support all the function of the Magic Mouse. Other discussions have stated that when similar problems have been encountered, that the solution is to delete the USBOverdrive.kext file contained within System/Library/Extensions. I don't have that file, so that solution won't work for me.
The people who are having success with this problem seem to have upgraded from Leopard to Snow Leopard. Could it be that my mouse doesn't work because I don't have previous requisite data from 10.5.x?
    Any assistance will be appreciated.
    Cheers.

After consulting with Apple Phone Support, I have rectified this issue. For some reason, in my 10.6.2 update, the file which provides usability for external wireless mice was not included.
The package can be found here: http://support.apple.com/kb/dl950

  • I left my Magic Mouse on overnight and now the scrolling and swiping does not work. Help Me!

    Hey guys,
About a month agop I got a Magic Mouse as a Birthday present and have been using it semi regularly on my Macbook. However, last night I accidentally left the mouse on while the computer was off overnight. Initially the mouse was completely not working, so I managed to reboot it by deleting certain things in the extensions folder (AppleBluetoothMutlitouch.kext and AppleMultitouchDriver.Kext) and while the mouse works fine now, the scrolling and swiping functions no longer work. I've tried downloading the update on the mac site, but everytime the message "a newer version of this software already exists" pops up!
I'm completely stumped (and I do not have USB Overdrive on my Mac)

It's obvious that you need a screen repair.
    This tells you prices:  http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/service/prices/
If you bring your ipod into an apple store, they can also ship it out for repairs. Also you should back up your ipod onto your computer before you bring it anywhere, so your memory doesnt get wiped out. If you have itunes IOS 6.1.3, plug the device into the computer, bring up itunes, in the top right hand corner click the button that says ipod, then click summary. Near the center of the page should be a button that says back up now. Click that and it will save all of your ipod's ino to your computer so you can re-download it when its fixed. Hopes this helps!

  • The three finger swipe left and right does not seem to work

    Hi
I have been trying to do the left and right three finger swipe that allows you to move between applications to no avail.  It just keeps switching between dashboard and one app even if I have 5 apps open at the same time. Snow Leopard has this feature where all the apps opened are shown when you do the swipe and you can choose the one you want.  I think this is better but it doesn't work.
    Any help will be appreciated.
    Antonio

Such spaces actually use very little extra memory relative to the apps you have open to occupy those spaces. I would go out on a limb and say it doesn't matter whether you have one space for every application or all on the same desktop.
The limitation will come from the applications and the data you are crunching on them.
(But that's just a personal view, haven't run into any limits on my ow 4GB Macbook Pro so far)

  • Magic Mouse - scrolling doesn't work on some web pages

The scroll function on my Magic Mouse isn't working on some web pages. The main ones it struggles with are news sites (e.g. The Telegraph), or things that regularly update (e.g. BBC Sport live commentaries). When this is a problem the page won't scroll at all, even if you enable the scroll bars at the side of the page and try to drag manually. The majority of web pages do work however. Thoughts?

    Hello Halifax:
Are you really running OS X 10.3?
These are the requirements for a magic mouse:
    Minimum Requirements
    A Bluetooth-enabled Macintosh computer
Mac OS X v10.5.8 or later with Wireless Mouse Software Update 1.0* or Mac OS X v10.6.1 or later >with Wireless Mouse Software Update 1.0

  • Magic Mouse - Should It Click At The Back?

I have a brand new Magic Mouse and I believe it's broken.
Should the top shell move up and down at the back of the mouse, beyond the Apple logo? And should the top shell rock from side to side?
I'm pretty certain the top shell of the Magic Mouse is only supposed to physically move up and down at the front, to provide the mechanical click.
I'd really appreciate it if any of you could check yours for me.

I called apple and they didnt have a magic mouse at hand to do a full sound diagnostics as my mouse had different sound on each side.
I took it into an apple store, did not book a genius, and told the person at the back that it was broken and the button was not smooth. The person played with the button a bit and went to the back and got me a new one.
This new one i can confirm to you that the shell does not move around, there is only little movement at the back, and both sides click the same way; nice and smoothly.
    There is a difference.
So if you've got a mouse similar to what I described in my previous post, you should take it in because there is something wrong with your $69 investment.

  • Magic Mouse hates browsing

It seems, my Magic Mouse want me to stay off the internet. When ever I open a browser, be it Safari or Chrome, and starts browsing around for a bit the mouse starts shuttering and lagging. Its like the movements aren't been captured smoothly anymore.
Rebooting fixes the problem, until well, I open a browser again.
    Steps to reproduce:
    reboot computer
start a browser (chrome or safari tested)
    browse around for a bit
    boom, drunk mouse
    Additional notes:
After rebooting, I have tried using programs such as Mathematica and Lightroom for long stretches, without opening a browser, this leaves the mouse in fine working condition. Almost the second I open a browser, it breaks.
Using a USB mouse works fine, so I believe its bluetooth related, thus why I have posted it in this category.
    Any help

Yesterday, I have the same issue. Magic mouse gesture didn't work in Safari.
Then I try to uninstall flash player, reset Safari, and restart my mac. And IT WORK. Safari get more faster and gesture work normally. Hope this can help

  • When i click on a link, or left click my mouse, another browser window will open ("Redirect").....

In additon to over and over having to close out an endless cascade of windows i'm being inudated with tons of pop-ups. Ultimately after being on for a few hours the problems increase in frequencey and my chromebook gets slower and slower. I've asked a few people their opinions and a few have told me that it sounds like a virus or malware. I was under the impression i couldn't get infected by either of those. A tech support person told me to get Adblock Pro and that would solve all my problems. I got the app from the Google store but everytime i try to instal and run it the site crashes. I openly admit i am tech-tarded. I'm 34 and this ismy 1st computer. I got this b/c i was told it is simplistic and user friendly. Ive been problem free for the past 20 months. CAN ANY1 HELP ME!?!?!?!?!? I would just take it in but the tech support people said it would be cheaper to just buy a new one......help me please
    [edited for privacy]

Well, it would help a lot if you could tell us which model you have. The symptoms are pretty common ones for a virus or hacked web site. Did it happen right away after getting the computer or did it take some time? Does it happen on a specific site or all sites you visit?

  • How can I disable the touchpad and mouse shortcuts for go back a page? I keep accidentally going back a page and losing tons of data because of it.

I've looked in both Windows 7's system options and Firefox options for ways of disabling this autoshortcut for going back a page, but there doesn't seem to be one. I'll be using the touchpad, sliding my fingers across, when I somehow activate a shortcut for "Go Back a Page" and end up losing tons of data on a form or chat or game.

You can set mousewheel.with*.action pref(s) like mousewheel.withcontrolkey.action to 0 to perform a scroll.
    mousewheel.withcontrolkey.action
    mousewheel.withnokey.action
    mousewheel.withshiftkey.action
    mousewheel.withaltkey.action
    mousewheel.withmetakey.action

  • When typing in the Find Bar, sometimes the caret goes away without clicking or moving the mouse. This also happens when backspacing in the Find Bar, and results in going back one page in the browser. How can this be remedied?

Sometimes the carat goes away after one letter, while other times I can get an a few letters in before having to re-click inside the text box in the bar.

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
    * Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
See [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]] and [[Troubleshooting plugins]]
If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all your extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
    * Use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions.
    * Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")

  • Magic Mouse triggering Mission Control on remote machine, how do I stop it?

I'm not sure if this is a bug or not, but here's the deal: sometimes, when I single finger scroll with my Magic Mouse, it will trigger Mission Control on the remote mac. Probably happens about 50% of the time. The other 50% it correctly scrolls the document/window/etc that I am trying to scroll.
I've attemped to disable any possible gesture and such that may be triggering it, but no luck. Any suggestions? What am I missing?
    Thanks.

Mouse settings can be locked in : Menu bar, Apple Menu, System Preferences, Mouse, "Click & Tap" tab
There will be a secion labeled "Clicks." Typicaly "One Finger Middle axis Click" will be checked, and set to  "Middle Click." That means it you tap the mouse, down the vertical center of the magic mouse, it will trigure middle click instead of left click.
Try unchecking "One Finder Middle Axis click," and then see if you still have the issue.
