Single frames from handles sneaking into playback

I've got footage at Photo-Jpeg 24fps in a matching sequence.
During playback and in the renders, one frame from the handles in the tail of each clip gets shown. When stepping through, those frames are not there. Please tell me this is caused by a mundane setting hidden in some obscure menu, and that FCP is not really this sloppy.

Dunno what to say. Just has been an issue for as long as I have been cutting on NLEs...happens on Avid, Premiere (the one I worked on in 1997), Media 100 (the one I worked on in 2000) and FCP. I don't quite understand what causes it, because it happened with an animated series I assisted for...and that was all 24fps too.
Instead of spending days trying to figure out what is causing this and what settings you might adjust to try to fix this, why not just take a half day and trim all the trouble spots? Just get it done and out of the way. I know...I know...I feel your pain. I know...

  • Print single frame from iMovie

How do I capture and print a single frame from an iMovie clip?

First, get an app called MPEG Streamclip, which is free. (google MPEG Streamclip from Squared 5)
    Open MPEG Streamclip.
In iMovie, select the clip you need. Then, right-click/Reveal in Finder. You will see it highlighted in Blue in the Finder.
Drag this clip from the Finder into MPEG Streamclip
In MPEG Streamclip, move the playhead to the frame you want.
In MPEG Streamclip, click FILE/EXPORT FRAME.
Choose JPEG, TIFF, or PNG and give it a name.
You can then drag this photo into iPhoto.

  • Why I can't export a single frame from my composition?

I try to export a single frame from the cavas but motion just did nothing when I click on export. Is there something wrong with my motion setup? I have trashed the motion's plist couple times already but still having the same issue. I can't even save the project. When click on save, motion did nothing, just like export. HELP!

I see that you are on an intel mac. Are you running the universal versions (Final Cut Studio 5.1 w/ Motion 2.1)?
See this article for troubleshooting steps: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302596.
When I am having major issues like this, I just start over from scratch. Do a complete erase and install with the OS discs, reinstall all applications and update everything with software update. I keep a separate partition just for film and video work that I can blow away any time (I don't store any important files on it).

  • What's the simplest way to export a single frame from an animated gif as gif?

i have an animated gif and wish to save a single frame as a non-animated gif.
in the past i've been achieving this by deleting all the frames i don't wish to export and deleting them before exerting, this seems very clumsy though so i figure there's a more sensible solution in there somewhere, but where?

Thanks, Bill! Actually version 9 looks a little clearer than that, as it has two bold clear white paddles to mark the edge of the work area.
I was a little frustrated at first, because whatever I did, it still took a year and exported the entire video.
    Then:
I caught sight of this teeny tiny box waiting for a tick from me, which said:
    Share Work area Bar Only
    We have lift-off
Thanks again. So much quicker than all that deleting ahnd hoping you don't accidentally say "yes" when prompted to save changes!

  • Unable to paste frame from one animation into another

Hi, I'm currently working to make a set of GIFs. I'm using PS CS6 64-bit on a Windows 7 PC. This is my first time encountering this error. I am attempting to select a batch of frames from one animation (in the frame animation mode) then select "Copy Frames" in the drop down window of the workflow menu, then move to the other animation, which is also in frame animation mode. However, when I go to that animation's drop down menu I'm unable to select "Paste Frame" - it's grayed out. I've attempted to rest my tools and preferences, and reopened PS several times, but still can't copy and paste frames from one animation to another. (I'm still able to copy and paste frames within a single animation.) As I said, this is my first time encountering this error after making numerous GIF sets this way -- any troubleshooting tips?

That copy and paste you describe does not work in ASO -- it does in BSO. AFAIK, it has been that way forever.
Sorry, because it is a very nice bit of functionality in BSO.

  • How do I cut a single frame from a clip and use it as a photo in iPhoto

I would love to cut a frame from a clip in an iMovie project I have and then use that cut as a photo in I photo. Can I do it and how.
I'm under the gun and if you are insomniac and you want to answer right away, please go right ahead.  thank you

You can install an App called MPEG Streamclip or you can simply pull up the clip in full screen and take a screen shot using (command+shift+3) or using (command+shift+4) to click and drag to create a box around what you would like to take a snap shot of.

  • Possible to pull higher resolution single frames from movie?

    Hi.
I am currently using iMovie HD 6. I am wondering if it is possible to pull a higher than 72 dpi frame for still picture purposes? Command "F" doesn't seem to give options for higher resolution.
Would moving to Final Cut Express give more still picture options?
    Any ideas welcome.
Thanks for any replies in advance.
    Thomas

Images in video are defined by their pixel dimensions, for example -NTSC DV is 720x480 non square pixels - which is the square pixel equivalent of 640x480. It really doesn't matter if this is output at 72dpi or 300dpi as it is still 720x480. You get what the camera recorded - no more.
If you need higher quality images (ie more pixels) take still images on the set. Even throw away point and shoot cameras will record an image with more pixels than any video format.
    good luck.
