Single indd placed inside a master indd issues updating links
a client sent us 200 single indd files and one master indd file where they placed all 200 indd files into it.
We converted their images from RGB to CMYK, so all of the links in the master document are modified. It will not allow me to update the links. Is there anyway to do this in the master document? If i have to open all 200 of them, what is the point of the master document? HELP!

Ok, you need to open the Master Document.
Then you need to update all the images in the Master.
Then open all the other 200 documents to update that.
It will be just like an image would behave. If they sent you a pdf that was rgb and put it in all the files, you'd still have to open all the files to update the pdf.
All the files placed into the 200 other documents will be modified. So you will need to update the links in the individual files.
I don't think placing the indesign file into another file was intended for this use, it's a bit silly the way they have done it. But hey.
And if you have 200 documents then you will need to open them to output them anyway - right?
The reason really is that say if I have an advert that is going into a few different print jobs I'm doing or something, all A4 all the same spec.
So I can create 1 master indesign file. And place that into all the places it will be printed A4. Should I need to update the advert or something, then I can do so in the original file. Then when I open the other documents that have this document, it will warn me that it needs to be updated.
I do this for book covers that I have and a publications catalogue. Rather than saving all my book covers into a seperate file and having loads of files, I can I have 1 indesign file.
I update the book covers in the master file and all the book covers change through out the catalog. It's also handy if someone says I want this book cover on page 3 instead of page six. I open the master document, move page 6 to page, and then go back to my catalog and all the images have moved in the catalog.

Note both make changes at the time on different pages.
To save time...Another option, if the file is a large mupltiple page design, is to divide the document into chapters or sections. Save each section as a separate InDesign file and then combine them using a book (.indb). File > New > Book...
Different users could edit the individual sections or chapters, and then when all is ready to go, the book can be used to package the documents, export to PDF, etc.
Not very efficient for small documents, but it can make life easier for long documents.

Can an InCopy editor add, remove and edit a text frame placed inside the main story text frame?
I think I already know the answer to this which is - no. I'll explain why I am asking the question in a second, but the reason I think the simple answer is no is because - text frames are controlled by a designer in the layout file, an editor using incopy can only edit the text and images placed inside text frames, and so cannot resize them, add or delete them.
Ok, so the reason I have asked this.
Is there a way around this so that editors in incopy can edit certain types of text frame that are contained within the main text frame? I'm using these text frames to contain specific paragraph styles, giving them a boxed look and also with an anchored icon in the top left of the text frame depending on the type of paragraph it is. See screenshot as an example of a green text frame that I am using to contain paragraphs of type "tip".
If it is not possible for editors in incopy to add, edit or resize these text frames (green tip frame in the example above), then how else can I style these paragraphs to give the same visual appearance, but without the use of wrapping them in a text frame?
One (not so good) way around this is for the designer to add the text frames in the layout file after he gets the content back from the editor, then moving the "tip" paragraphs into these newly created text frames. However when the editor updates the content in incopy and gets these new text frames in their copy, they can not then delete them if they wish to, or if they add or reduce content inside of these green text frames then the frames dont grow to fit their edited content. So I dont think its a solution for the designer to control the adding, removing and resizing of these frames.
UPDATE: I have just discovered that once a text frame has been placed into the document by the designer and the editor updates their copy in incopy- they can then use the "Position Tool" to select that text frame - allowing them to resize it, or delete it! Fantastic. But would the editor be able to add these frames in themselves to begin with? Maybe have a document containing all of the objects available to them, copy and paste one of them into the main document and edit its content? Does anyone have any advice on how to go about this? Essentially I would like the editor to control the insertion, editing and removal of these inline text frames.True. But when all I am trying to achieve is a border around a paragraph, use of a table seems overkill to me. But if thats the only solution I have so far then I will have to go down that route.
It would be useful to have an object libraries panel in InCopy so that editors can drag across predefined text frames into their doc via InCopy, but I cant see that option in InCopy. is there one? I have also thought about exporting the frames as seperate InDesign Snippets and saving them to an objects folder, then when an editor needs to insert one into their doc they simply use File > Place > "Choose required text frame snippet". However I have found that InCopy can't place InDesign snippets so that theory was a failure. Is there another format I could use to save the objects and bring them into InCopy? List below shows my findings so far for trying to save/export a text frame from InDesign and then import into InCopy:
InDesign Snippet (.idms) - can't import into InCopy
InDesign Document (.indd) - imports content as an image - only editable in InDesign
InDesign Template (.indt) - imports content as an image - only editable in InDesign
InDesign Library (.indl) - can't import into InCopy - no panel available in InCopy for object libraries (that I can see...)
InCopy Markup (.icml) - only imports the text, loses the text frame -

I have an InDesign file placed inside another and one of the picture doesn't print or export properly.
It's not the first time it's happened, nut usually the problem seems to occur with a complex PSD file placed in the 1st document.
This time the file is simple, but it's in multiply mode in the 1st InDesign document.
Any idea how to fix this?I just tried to reproduce the image problem with PSD in ID in ID to show you screenshots but now everything seems to be working correctly (I had some files from last month that were causing a problem but now they're not). I'll just have to wait for it to happen again.
As for the place ID into ID causing a crash, I figured this isn't a widespread quirk, but several others in my office have this issue, although one colleague does not. We're all using the same workflow, the same hardware/software/fonts (OS 10.5.8; CS3 5.0.4), etc.
ID crashes the first time I place an ID file into an ID file, whether by file>place or drag-and-drop. Doesn't matter if the files are local or on a server. It also happens when the placed ID file has changes that causes the "container file" to be updated (the relinking causes the crash). If I quit ID before doing any of these operations, so that the place/relink is one of the first operations that I do, then the program doesn't crash. If I've been working for a little while then place/relink, that's when I get the crash.

I am having major issues with links in keynote! Even though the links (a navigation system) are on the master page, they are only working on some of my slides. Anyone have ideas on how to fix this or similar issues? Help!
I have created a navigation system on the master pages and set the presentation to links only mode. I also have other links scattered throughout the program, like a linkable table of contents, etc. Some of them work, some of them don't. Not sure why. Anyone out there having similar issues? Or have any idea on how I can solve this issue? Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks!Links should not create any problems in Keynote. If they are set up correctly on text, the text will be underlined. Objects that have links will have a curved arrow bottom right, if you click the arrow a popup will display the link information.
Try this repair for Keynote, ensure you complete all the tasks and in the order shown:

delete all the iWork applications if you have them, not just Keynote, using Appcleaner from Mac Update, its a freeware application

empty the trash: Finder > Empty Trash

Shut down your Mac, wait 30 seconds, then power on the Mac, immediately after the start chime, hold down the Shift key
When you see the grey Apple symbol and progress indicator (a spinning gear), release the Shift key.
If you are prompted to log in, type your password, then hold down the Shift key again as you click Log in.

Let the Mac fully boot up, it will take longer as the OS is repairing the drive

when fully booted, go to Applications > Utilities > Disc Utility; click on the boot drive then First Aid tab and click repair disc permissions

when complete, restart the Mac normally, Apple menu > Restart

Master data Issue --- materials have unassigned or # values ...!!

I am facing an issue that the Customer Data is missing in a BEx Report.
Data Flow is 2LIS_13_VDITM --> DSO1 --> Merging DSO --> Cube --> Multiprovider --> Bex Report.
Exact issue is Customers in the Bex Report has unassigned to Sales Office, Sales Group, Sales District.
The only reason a customer should show up under u201Cunassignedu201D or u201C#u201D is if itu2019s improperly set up in the system.
customers are assigned with two values. one which has data and the other which has unassigned value.
I wanted to know, how do i check if the matierials are valid to have unassigned Values ?
Checked the Merging DSO and saw that there are actually values assigned values for the affected matierials.
After that checked the Cube data values are displayed except the Master Data values.
I guess..its completely related to Master data. I would like to know how can i resolve this issue.
Please reply me if you face this kind of master data issue in your expeiriance.

Are Sales Office, Sales Group, Sales District are attributes of Customer?
In case they are, then the customers will be unassigned to Sales Office, Sales Group, Sales District in case the data for these attributes is loaded to the customer attributes.
and also check if the customer characteristic is properly assigned in the multiprovider.

In my application config directory is there.
When i export my RCP application as JNLP Project the jar file is created which contains config folder inside it.
When i download the application using java web start , how can i get the path to config folder placed inside the jar file?
Will the config folder exists in local cache in my system?

Hi,
the function works on a discrete amount of data. Hence every call to it replaces the values used first time around.
I've attached an example in LabVIEW 7.0 that uses a pulse generation vi to allow the manipulation of the array sent into the integral object, and then it's easy to calculate what the integral of the data would be.

I've an old file without it's links folder, I was wondering If there was any way to extract low quality images from it to relink them.@Bernardo – you could export the graphic frame that holds the low res preview to e.g. PNG.
But I would *NOT* re-link them! Place them anew in case someone has geometrically transformed (cropped, rotated, skewed, mirrored) the original ones. Keep in mind that by exporting graphic frames to PNG, fill and stroke properties together with applied effects are exported as well.

Having migration trouble: master/slave issue in G4
I just got a 24-inch imac and began the migration process yesterday. And if it were 2005 I'd be in great shape. The new iMac saw only my ORIGINAL 20 GB drive (in two partitions, one for OS9 and one for OSX) and I, not realizing it didn't see the drive i installed in January 2005 and which is now my main drive, had it migrate the stuff from that drive. (I thought it was taking everything.) Obviously, then I had only the stuff from the old drive. Worse, the imac never could see the newer drive. I posted something on a different forum, and people immediatley responded it was a master/slave issue. I've now spent HOURS since last night rearranging drives and jumpers (one is the original Apple drive, from Western Digital, and the second is a Seagate 120 GB drive). The G4 either wouldn't turn on at all, or I just got a gray screen. We put everything back to the way it was, and at least now I have a computer.
However, I still have the migration issue. The original drive (according to the profile) is listed first, so is the master. How can I do the migration. I really don't want to reinstall everything.
Two options that I see: clone the Seagate to an external, and migrate from there. Or: put the Seagate into an external enclosure and again, clone from there.
Are there other options out there?
BY the way, we had massive troubles with the jumpers. It never worked to have the jumper on the seagate -- the only way this computer started is with the jumper NOT on 7/8 and on the Apple (original) drive.

Would like to take up option of Infinity now it's available in my area, anything has to be an improvement on my current BT rate of 2 Meg.
However the current master socket is in the hall and I want everything in the living room where it is now. I have read about the Master sockets issues and rang the Sales line last night and asked about moving the master socket.
The operatives initial reaction was effectively "what's your problem have the modem and hub in your hall" - I don't want that , I don't have the space. The next solution is the data extension kit - again I don't want a lead running round 3 door frames to get to my living room. After putting me on hold for a while he came back with the princely sum of £205 to move my master socket. I asked him whether there was any possible movement on price - No.
Anybody else hit this wall - I am pretty aggrieved having been loyal to BT Internet for many years, £205 is a joke.Do you have any phone extensions from your master socket that run into the room you want the modem?

We want to begin using the INPUT PROCEDURE addin in our QM module, we already have customized this addin but now we are facing a master data issue, that is, when we update the inspection characteristics master data, the actual inspection plans do not take this changes into account.
My first question is: Is there any way to force the actual inspection plans to be updated with the actual inspections characteristics parameters ?
In particular, we want to force the option 'Input processing' in the control indicator, and the Input processing value in the Quant. Data.
Alternatively, is there any way to mass update this informations directly at inspection plan-characteristic level ?
