Single Maxtor SATA won't install Windows 2k

Hi everyone!
I have been messing with this for a few days now.  I'm in the process of upgrading my machine to a K8T NEO, A64 3000+, 1gb Hyper X PC4000, 9800XT vid, and Maxtor Diamondmax 120gb SATA.  The problem I am having is that I can not get Windows 2k to install on my machine.  It is getting about 1/2 way and crashing.  Even before it gets to that point it's really really slow after the first reboot during install.  I have followed the instructions in regards to setting up the single SATA HD and the first bios screen shows it there.  I have it connected to the (SER1) SATA connector which I believe uses the Promise controller.
During the initial install I hit F6 and then use the Promise 378 driver for w2k off of the driver floppy.  It installs the drivers then I format and everything is peachy.  It's after the reboot when it just runs like a chode and never finishes the install.
Do I need to disable the VIA controller and leave the PATA enabled?
To set it up to the VIA controller all I need to do is disable the PATA controller?  When I've tried in the past to set it up to the SATA1 port the raid bios won't see the HD on the first boot screen.
I am very desperate in finding a solution for this.  I want to run Final Fantasy 11 on this system!!  :-)
Thanks so much guys!

This may or may not help but I just purchased 2 OEM Maxtor SATA Drives which I plan to install in a new system I'm building around the MSI K8T FIS2R.  I downloaded the CD-R ISO for MaxBlast 3 from Maxtor.  Here is an excerpt from the readme file included on the CD:
"      If you are installing drivers during a Windows NT4.x,Win 2K or XP
fresh Operating System install, you will need to copy the Serial ATA
and UDMA 100/133 driver files from the MaxBlast 3 CD to a clean formatted
      floppy first.
From the MaxBlast 3 CD choose the create Maxtor ATA/SATA PCI driver diskette option and follow the on screen prompts.
On new build NT,2K, and XP systems without floppy drives, it will be
necessary to temporarily connect a 3.5 floppy drive to install the Serial ATA
or UDMA 100/133 host drivers. This is because the Microsoft operating system
doesn't allow browsing to CD ROM drives during a new install.
On systems that have NT, 2K, or XP already installed. Add the Serial ATA or
UDMA 100/133 host, and driver to the system first before connecting your new
      hard drive to the system.
Serial ATA and UDMA 100/133 controllers report as a SCSI device in Windows:
During the Windows NT4.x,Win2K,or WinXP install you must specify additional
devices SCSI or RAID controllers, and choose other to install the driver
from the floppy when prompted by the operating system. "

  • Adobe AIR won't install - Windows 7 Ultimate x64

    "Sorry, an error has occurred.
An error occurred while installing Adobe AIR. Installation may not be allowed by your administrator. Please contact your administrator."
Well, I asked myself and verified that I am allowed to install any programs I wish to at will.
I even toyed with adding extra permissions for the .exe and shortcut [see below], to no avail.
I also checked your Adobe AIR installation troubleshooter section before posting. Unfortunately, none of the solutions 100% applied to my circumstances or OS, yet I tried a few anyway and had it confirmed by a Windows dialogue that I need not have bothered as it assured me that they weren't applicable in my case.
I found another thread like mine where somebody suggested creating a shortcut with an additional -uninstall parameter added to the .exe path. It didn't work.
I used Microsoft's Installation Cleanup Utility and that didn't work to "un-confuse" the installer either.
Do you have any more suggestions?
Adobe AIR came with the HTC Sync program for my phone, which appears to have dependencies on it where it won't completely work without it.
Thanks in advance for any input.
ps. I created a new thread because I couldn't find the "reply" button on a similarly unresolved thread regarding Adobe AIR installation issues on Windows 7.

I would like to say thanks to artrose54 and to playswithtech for their thoughtful responses to my problem. I finally figured out which number I was to delete, and then, having made a copy of the number in notepad, deleted it. Upon a restart to my computer I then was able to download adobe air 2.7. I found that I still could not download the shutterfly express uploader, however; so I applied the same approach. I went looking for the number in the registry that corresponded to the uploader. I deleted it; restarted the computer; returned to shutterfly; and then was able to download the express uploader. I am sure I will find other uses for Adobe Air in the future.

    Hi everyone,
Here is the fix that worked for me,
You need to go to start run and type in regedit
now press ctrl+f for find and type in "adobe air" without the quotes then click find next
the first entry it finds is the one I deleted, it is a long number on left side of screen that is greyed just right click and delete it
I then rebooted the computer and ran adobe air installation
and it worked with out a problem
The adobe air log file really doesn't tell u anything but where it tried to find the setup.msi file
but it doesn't exist because of the registry entry that needs to be deleted which is what causes the error
If u r not sure of editing the registry then maybe you know someone that can help you
I hope this helps you out it worked for me

  • K8T Neo Won't install Windows XP - Linux works fine

OK, i just installed this MOBO, and I'm having a big problem.  It boots up fine, finds everything in the BIOS, but it won't run or install Windows.  I tried just using my old Windows XP install to begin with.  I would get a stop error before the Loading Windows screen even came up.  It wouldn't run in safe mode either.  I don't remember exactly what the stop error was anymore.  I then booted into Linux, and it runs fine.  So, I decided to reinstall Windows.  I put the CD in, it says press any key to boot from CD, and then it says "Checking hardware configuration" or something like that and freezes right there without giving an error.  I have to manually reset the computer.
I tried deleting the Windows partition and running setup again with the same results.  I even tried booting from a copy of the Windows disk, and tried installing Windows XP 64-bit edition as well.  Same results with both.  I reinstalled Linux because I messed up the boot record when I deleted the Windows partition, and the Linux install went flawlessly.
I have tried disabling SATA, USB, parallel ports, serial ports... everything I could think of in the BIOS.  I've tried it with PnP OS support turned on and off.  I've tried loosening the RAM settings as far as I can.  Nothing seems to work.
It's obviously not a CD-ROM issue, because Linux installs fine.  I've also tried multiple drives and media.  Linux is also installed on the same HDD as the Windows partiton, so it shouldn't be a HDD problem.  I've also tried swapping my Radeon 9800 out with a GeForce Ti 4600, and I've tried swapping the PSU supply out with another (although the other was only 250W).
For the life of me, I can't figure out what the problem may be.  Anyone have any ideas?
    - TIA

I really don't think it has anything to do with the PSU.  I've been using this PSU for over 6 months now on this system (had a Soyo K8USA Dragon Ultra in there before... otherwise the same system)  I've never had a problem, and I usually have a lot of crap running at once, e.g. DVD ripping/burning, file sharing, gaming, word processing, programming, browsing, etc., etc.  Granted, it's not the best PSU in the world, but it gets the job done quite well.  Also, now that Windows is installed, the problem has not reoccured.
The only thing I have noticed is that it takes quite a while to load the Windows loading screen now.  This screen should come up almost immediately.  Instead, there is about 30 seconds or so of waiting where all I see is a blank screen.  Afterwards, everything runs fine.  I have disabled the "show list of operating systems" option in Windows so that's not the issue.

  • Boot Camp won't install windows support software

I have a MacBook 2006 with 4 gb of memory and a 2.0 ghz core 2 duo processor. It has a 7200 RPM 750 GB HD with a single partition running a clean install of os x lion. I have been trying to install windows 7 since Lion came out. If I tell boot camp to download software, It is almost done when I get an error telling me that software can't be installed. If I choose not to download software, I try to partition my HD and I get another error that I can't remember because I haven't tried in a week. I will post pictures in a day or two, but until then, PLEASE HELP ME!!!

From what I've read the "Download Update" option as you install Lion only works for some MBAirs and it's a hit or miss on all others. (mostly a miss).
You might do a Search on the error you get as there are quite a few discussions on those problems.

  • MacBook Pro Retina won't install windows 7 64bit

Hi guys, i'm tryng to install windows 7 64bit but no success till now. I'm using an updated version ( service pack 1 integrated) when windows loads i can't install it on the bootcamp partition because it says"windows needs an ntfs partition to install" . Then i cancel that partition, create one new ntfs one, and try to install.... then windows tells me "Impossible to create a new system partition or locate an existing system partition. For further information, look at the program's registry files"
It seems to be an error caused by a defective driver of the controller of the hard disk.... so the controller of the ssd. Or is it something else? how can i install windows via bootcamp on the new macbook pro with retina display?

you format the FAT/MSDOS to NTFS inside the Windows installer.
    Windows installer: Advanced Options tab.
You don't create, you just use the one "BOOTCAMP" that was created by Boot Camp Assistant.

  • 2011 iMac won't install Windows 7 in Boot Camp

I'm attempting to install Windows 7 x64 on my 2011 (Thunderbolt) iMac via a burned, bootable DVD which was previously used to install Windows 7 x64 on my friend's MacBook Pro. Apparently, the disc works. After partitioning one of my internal drives in Boot Camp, downloading the drivers and stuff Apple provided, putting that stuff on a FAT-formated flash drive, then attempting to install Windows, the install fails. Well, it doesn't really fail. Before I'm even given the option of installing, right after clicking the "start setup" button in the Windows Installer, I get an error saying "No device drivers were found. Make sure that the installation media contains the correct drivers, and then click ok." I go to scan and browse the flash drive for the drivers which Apple provided, and I get the same message over and over again regardless of what I click. I ran Software Update before doing any of this, and I have also attempted to install the x32 version of Windows 7 as well, as to no avail. I would try burning the Apple-provided drivers and stuff to a CD or DVD, but obviously there is no way to insert such a disc into the drive since the Windows disc is already in.
These are my computer's specs, if they matter:
    2011 Thunderbolt iMac
2TB storage, partitioning 100GB for Windows
    3.4GHz i7 quad-core
    16GB RAM
    Radeon 6970 with 2GB VRAM
...attempting to install Windows 7 Home Premium (I think) x64 (or x32 if I have to)

Update: I've successfully installed Windows by re-burning my Windows .iso image at 4x. The install went smoothly, but Windows is now unable to boot. After installing and going through its series of reboots, then fails to boot after restarting (after given the option to select what method of updating you want Windows to use).
This is some of the stuff Windows says, on a black screen with white text, when the boot fails:
    mcfg 0x8ee39000 0x3c 0x8ee0f000 0x195000 0x3

I've dug  through various archived forum postings in the programming bowels of the internet. Apparently there was/has been/is a known issue in which Macs refuse to boot Windows when the Mac in question has a 2TB hard drive. This is due to some GRUB issue or something.
I have no idea what to do. I need Windows, and I'm quite sure no Genius appointment will help me solve this problem. So much for a Mac seamlessly running Windows via Boot Camp.

  • Lion Bootcamp won't install Windows 7 Professional

I have a fresh install of Lion on my iMac and have been trying to install Windows 7 Professional using Bootcamp 4.0.  Here's what I've done.
    1) Loaded bootcamp and followed the instructions to partition the drive.  Split the 500GB drive so the Mac would have approximately 300GB and Win7 would have 200GB.  Then bootcamp asked me to insert my Win7 disk which I did and click "Install now".  I did so and it rebooted.  Upon rebooting my iMac says "No bootable device.  Insert boot disk and press any key".  However, the Win7 install disk is already in the drive.
After reading on forums I've tried the following but still to no avail.
    2) I reboot the computer while holding down the "C" key.  Occassionally when I do this the Installation will start and I make it to the Windows activation screen where it asks where I want to install the OS.  I select "advanced" and go ahead and select "format" the Bootcamp drive and it takes about 10 seconds to format.  Then I proceed with the install.  It comes to the screen where it says "Expanding Windows Activated Files" and it shows a 0% and just hangs there.  On one occasion when I was in the beginning stages of the install program it stopped and asked me to insert a disk to install a driver for the disk drive.  From what I can tell it's like the mac isn't finding and reading the DVD files properly.  And sometimes it works for a while and but after a bit it just craps out.  Before Lion I had Snow Lepoard and using Bootcamp 3.2 i was able to install Win7 with no problems.
    3) One last thing.  So after messing with Lion I became frustrated and thought I'm just going to go back to SL.  So I pulled out my SL disk and went ahead and did a full SL install.  However, when I went into Bootcamp (v3.2 or whatever version comes with SL) it would not allow me to partition my Hard drive. Some error comes up and I can't remember exactly what the error said.  But after doing more research on the web I found the problem.  It's that Lion installs another hidden partition on my drive which I can't seem to remove.  Even when I used disk utilities and formatted the drive before installing SL the hidden Lion recovery partition is still there.  So now I can't seem to go back to a clean install of SL to get bootcamp and Win7 working again.
Any help here is much appreciated.
    Thanks
    Steven

Does fdisk work? Something like 'sudo fdisk -a hfs'? Or maybe 'fdisk -i' first. You see, I'm guessing here.
If you get the unmount error: would 'umount -Af' from USB work? You probably tried that already.
If this all fails, the next step _I_ would take, would be plugging the disk into a Linux box nearby and check the disk there.

  • MSI AMD FM1 A55-P33 - won't install windows 7 32bit

    Hi there,
we have board the MSI AMD FM1 A55-P33 motherboard but for some reason we cannot install windows 7 32bit on it.
    What does install flawlessly is:
    All Windows7 64bit
    Windows 7 Starter 32bit
We ( and also the local supplier here in South Africa ) have test the following components:
    Power Supply
    Ram
    Ram Ports
    Alternate Ram Manufacturer
    DVD Writer
    Hard Drives
    Graphics Card
    Onboard Graphics Alone
Board is running latest bios update.
and it still does not install.
They supplier  has ordered in and tested the same model motherboard and it still does not install.
For me that means it could be the motherboard model or the cpu ( which is still being ordered in so an alternate can be tested )
When i say doesn't install, it installs until the very end where the installation restarts and goes into the installation one last time to finalize things
and then it throws a error and you can't complete the installation.
The local supplier has had the computer for 2weeks now with no success,
I was hoping someone here could assist us with a few suggestions.
Thanks to any advice given .

what is the exact error received?

  • My Macbook pro won't install Windows 7, My Macbook pro won't install Windows 7

Hi, I've been trying to install Windows 7 on my Macbook pro, with no luck. I have been able to create a Windows Partition via Bootcamp. And after the Windows 7 installation guide started to expand my Windows files, my Windows 7 CD suddenly stopped spinning. And after a while, the installation guide said that Windows couldn't be installed. And I had to turn off my Mac.

I would highly suggest restoring your Mac to factory settings.  Back up all files on externL hard drive first.  Then let the be the first thing u do.  Should resolve issues.   If computer is older and has been running under a certain operating system for a period of time it may not like the partition or may have corrupted files that restoring will wipe clean

  • P6N SLI with Geforce 8800 GTS 640 MB won't install Windows

    Hi all,
After a reply in the topic for updating your bios.
I was advised to ask the solution for my question here before flashing my Mobo.
    My Specs:
    Intel Core 2 Duo 6600
    4 GB DDR-2 (4 slots)
    Geforce 8800 GTS 640 MB PCI-Express
    Sitecom WL-171 wireless lan card.
    500 GB Hitachi SATA Disk
    1 DVD burn/reader
P6N SLI Mainbord with Beta Bios because it wasn't able to use 4 GB Ram at that time.
    Zalman 460 Watt
    Now the problem
First it was working but with a Geforce 7600 GT 256 PCI-Express.
I have upgraded it today to a 8800 GTS.
After this upgrade my Vista won't boot anymore, same for my Ubuntu.
    What is causing the problem?
Is my Powersupply not strong enough or should I flash my bios?
    Thanks in advance.
edit: Windows XP 32 or 64 bit. Vista 32 or 64 bit all gave the same stop error: 0x000007e
The knowledge base sais it is a driver problem?
    But it isn't even installed.

    Check VGA power cable too.

  • Flash won't install window 7 64 bit

I have had two days worth of headaches trying to fix this. I have the following
    Windows 7 64 bit
    IE 8
    spyware doctor anti-virus
Apparently Adobe updated itself a couple of days ago, and Now I have this Flash Player problem.  Everything worked fine until then.
I need some clear concise instuctions on how to fix this.  I have tried the uninstall, and the reinstall and looked in the windows folder and tried to find the 32 bit IE somewhere on my computer and have found nothing.
So I've had it, I'm not happy, in fact I am down right mad.  Please someone help fix this.  Thank You

Hi, I understand you have the Win7/64bit/IE8. Firefox(FF) you say is working, which you installed Flash Player using the 32bit. Flash Player will install and has been installed and is being installed in Win7/64bit. But you can't use the 64bit browser to do so, neither in IE or FF or Chrome or any other browser that Flash Player supports.
If you got the prompt from Adobe Flash Player on your Desktop and it installed, did you Reboot(restart) after it was completed? Also, Using IE, go the the ALL manage add ons and look for Shockwave Flash Object..ActiveX Control...
Flash10e.ocx version 10.0.45.2 and make sure that it listed and it is Enabled. This Control works with your Flash files for IE. Just as the SWF vs 10.0.45.2 plug-in for FF does.
If you did not get the Flash Player prompt from Adobe and did an Install manually, then using IE you would have had to use the Adobe Uninstaller first. There are certain procedures and sometimes when Installing Flash Player, a Firewall, an Anti-Virus program, too high of security settings for IE will block the Install of the needed ActiveX Control.
If Firefox used ActiveX Controls as IE does, you would have had the same problem. FF uses plug-ins so there is a difference.
If you want to get Flash Player Installed successfully, then these variables need to be considered.
If no one with Win7/IE8/64bit systems were able to install Adobe Flash Player, then I would agree that Adobe needs to fix something. However, that is not the case.
There are many reasons that you were not successful, but blaming Adobe won't get FP installed.
    Thanks,

I am having an issue with my Satellite L505D-S5965.  I replaced the hard drive (upgraded from 250 to 500GB) due to issues with the old one (which had been replaced once already) and am using the recovery disc I made before my other hard drive crashed.  When I boot the computer, it says it is loading Windows files, asks for country, etc., but then doesn't display an operating system to choose and asks me to choose drivers.  I can't restore it from a system image because I kept getting an error on the old drive when I tried to create one.  When I've checked, it says that Windows isn't installed on the computer.  I checked the BIOS and it is recognizing the new hard drive.  I have also tried booting it up from the DVD/CD using the set of disks I created after I got my new hard drive previously, but it doesn't seem to even recognize them and I can't get to the Toshiba Recovery Wizard. I would order the Toshiba Recovery Media, but with the issues I'm having, I'm not sure that is the fix.  I'd hate to be out another $30 on an old computer (since we also had to replace the mother board in the past few months) if I'm not sure that will cure the problem.

    Satellite L505D-S5965
    Downloads here.
The usual problem is restoring to a drive with advanced-format technology. Nearly all the new drives use it. See this message from three years ago.
See this message for early installation of the driver.

  • Shockwave Won't Install (Windows 8, PC, Google Chrome)

    Hello,
I am on a PC running Windows 8. My browser is Google Chrome. I am trying to install the newest shockwave player, and I have downloaded the installer multiple times, and the installation window finished loading and then only gave me the option to close the window, so I thought it was done. I've restarted my computer several times, and tried to uninstall shockwave. When I first was attempting to install it, even before uninstalling my previous version, the shockwave checker said that I had no version of shockwave installed at all, which I don't think was true because now I can run fewer things than I could before using the uninstallation wizard. So now I've uninstalled whatever version I had (I think), and tried to install the new version multiple times and the shockwave checker still says that shockwave is either not installed or disabled on my machine.
I have gone to the chrome plugins page and even after supposedly uninstalling everything and restarting my computer, it still lists:
Adobe Flash Player - Version: 17.0.0.169
    Shockwave Flash 17.0 r0
I have this plugin enabled still, so shockwave being disabled shouldn't be the issue.
I have also tried to keep running everything in desktop mode my hitting the windows key+D, so that shouldn’t be the problem either.
When I go to the page that allows you to click on the download button for Shockwave, I do get something called "Shockwave_Installer_Slim" to start downloading. When I click on it, the installation window I mentioned above just runs, the bar finishes loading, and then all it does is gives me an option to close the window. Nothing actually happens. I have about 5 copies of that same file on my computer from trying to download it multiple times. From the page where you can clock the button to install shockwave, after I click next to get to page 3/3, I feel like something isn't loading right because I only get a mostly-blank screen with "Thank you, here is another product that might interest you:" at the top, but no graphics - just grey. (Link below)
    Adobe - Adobe Shockwave Player
How can I fix this? I just want shockwave installed and enabled on my computer. I do think it is downloaded, but it's not working because when I go to my control panel, it gives me the option to uninstall shockwave 12.1, but all the shockwave checkers still say that my stuff isn't installed/enabled.

On chrome, nothing runs (ignore the stuff in the top right corner, that's what i used to take the screenshot):
On IE, something used to show up, but after using the flash player uninstaller I'm not getting anything, so now I just see this:
I could be confusing the two, I don't really know. If it helps at all, When I got to the "Test your Adobe Flash Player Installation" link on the welcome page window, it says "You have version 17,0,0,169 installed" when I'm in chrome, but it says "You have version 11,3,372,94 installed" when I'm in IE. Also, when I click on the "Test your Adobe Flash Player Installation" link (Adobe - Flash Player) in Chrome, I see no animation at the top of the screen. However, when I do the same in IE, there is an animation at first which then changes to an advertisement (screenshot of the animation playing in IE is included below). The fact that any version is installed at all is really confusing to me, because I thought I uninstalled everything, and when I go into the control panel under Programs>Uninstall a Program, there isn't anything with Adobe, Shockwave, Macromedia, or Flash Player in the name.
Also, the reason I'm trying to download it is because when my niece tries to play one of her games, she is getting this message:
ERROR : You don't have the latest Shockwave x plugin.
You can download the plugin here:
    http://www.macromedia.com/shockwave/download
Upon successful installation, please restart your computer, reload this game, and enjoy! Contact the customer support of www.macromedia.com for any issues with upgrading this plugin.

  • Adobe AIR won't install - Windows 7 Home Premium x64

Im just going to copy and paste a previous discussion I saw, simply because, everything is the same with me.
The response given to this post was a desktop sharing session with an adobe support person. I hope I get the same response...

  • DX735 system restore to in-box. Won't install Windows Touch.

Restored my system, Windows 7, right back as it was in the box.  Now I cannot download the Windows Touch Screen package.  It ran before I reformatted.  Now I get this message.
To install Microsoft Touch Pack for Windows 7 you need a computer with a touchscreen that supports at least two simultaneous touch points.
I do not have the "earth" program installed, and I do have Active X.

Can you check the laptop's full model and part numbers from the label on the bottom? Don't include the serial number.
How did you return it to out-of-box conditions?
