Single open tab, Click "x" to close, browser defaults to a web page for my bank. How can I change to "blank" or some other page?

Have a single open tab. Regardless of the website active in that tab, if I close it (click "x"), FF shows my bank's homepage. I'd prefer not to display my bank homepage. How can I change to another page or, preferably, a "blank" page?
This happens regardless of the page current when I close the single tab and after I close and restart FF. Haven't tried rebooting computer.
Windows XP Home, Ver. 5.1, SP3.
FF 5.0.

When downloading Firefox to my laptop I was automatically provided with a Dutch version (i.e. Dutch menu bars), probably because I reside in The Netherlands. I don't want the Dutch though. Don't know what else to add. I always use Firefox. My husband refuses to. I have a shortcut for him to get to the internet, and it always came up to via IE. Now, I somehow accidentally changed the default browser to Firefox, so when using that shortcut, it takes him to the Firefox browser instead of IE. He is furious! How can I change it back?

You can make IE the default browser, that will reset some registry keys 
Control Panel > Internet Options: Programs 
Put a check in the box next to 'Internet Explorer should check to see whether it is the default browser' 
Start IE and let IE make itself the default browser.

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).

You can associate files from the Bridge level and the Desktop level.
In Bridge CS4, go to Preferences > File Type Associations and change it to Photoshop CS4 for the file types you want.

For sideloaded content the nook pulls the metadata from ePub file itself. I would suggest looking at a program like Sigil or Calibre that will let you edit the metadata in the book to make it appear like you want.
For the PDF vs ePub - No, that's the way PDFs work (think of them as graphics, not text), wheres ePubs are Web Pages - so no you can't them to behave exactly alike without converting the files.

However, when clicking a .doc or .docx document, I no longer have the choice. How can I revive the dialog box to choose to 'open' the file rather than being forced to 'save' the file?

You can rename such files with a .html file extension and give them a .jpg file extension to make applications see them as an image. 
If Windows is stubborn and keeps the .html file extension and you end up with image.jpg.html then add quotes around the name ("image.jpg")

I will try safe mode.
I did download Ad Network Detector and opted out of JumpTap and AdMob. Today I found more: MoPub and Millenial which I will opt out of. I had previously opted out of Google Ads on the Cell phone but not on the net - so did that. Allegedly it take time for the opt outs to reach the originators of these pop ups
