Single or double click with thumb doesn't work well on trackpad since upgrade to mountain lion

I'm using a 2009 MacBook Pro recently upgraded from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion.
The internal AND external trackpad behavior is disappointing compared to Snow Leopard.  Neither one seem to register my thumb single or double click unless I do it pretty hard. For instance, selecting a word or double click to select a line.
A single finger works better but it's inconvenient to change years of training.
Sometimes I tap w/ my thumb on a button or link and it works and sometimes and I get no response until I use my finger.  It's like the trackpad sensitivity is off. Single tap only half works.
I was really efficient with the old trackpad behavior and my thumb.
Any suggestions?
Thanks.

I'm the OP and I'm the one that listed the problem originally. I spent an hour with apple care and the genius level two guy suggested I wipe my whole system. LOL, for a 40MB app, yeah right. The issue with Safari 6 is javascript, according to yahoo javascript is turned off. If you try to change your classic yahoo mail to the newer version it will give you a javascript turned off error. So for whatever reason Safari 6 has javascript turned off even though it is clicked ENABLED in preferences. Crazy. I did find my solution though and that was to dump Safari 6 by giving myself "read and write" permissions and then dumping the safari chache, plist, and preferences files. Then I installed Safari 5.17 by downloading the dmg from the net using PACIFIST. I had complete directions but somebody at apple decided to delete the whole post.

  • Problems with Mail (on O2) since upgrade to Mountain Lion

After having spent a frustrating few days trying to get this sorted, I thought I should make folk aware of the above problem. Since upgrading to Mountain Lion I have not been able to send email using smtp.o2.co.uk. The O2 call centre notes that a number of folk have been having this problem.
Some have suggested setting Custom Port to 25 but this hasn't worked for me.
Apparently O2 are going to get back to me within 5 days with an answer. I'm not holding my breath but am pleased to say I can still use my iPhone to send email.
Can't help but wonder if this has anything to do with the fact that I signed up for an iCloud (***@me.com) account at the same time.
    Any thoughts?

I got a fix. it works for me. while i'm on ML. safari and mail doesn't work properly. mail can't send emails with attachment and safari unble to open certain webpages.
i've log into my Internet modem, enable router mode from bridge mode. it works fine now. no promlem with sending emails or surfing the web. hope it'll helpful for u guys.

  • Time Machine doesn't appear in Launchpad since upgrading to Mountain Lion

Since upgrading to Mountain Lion (I'm using 10.8.1), Time Machine doesn't appear as one of the apps when using Launchpad. I can't figure out where it "went" but how do I get it back into Launchpad?
It's still in the Applications folder and in my Dock but I'd like to know why it isn't in Launchpad any more?
    Thanks.
    Sheri

    Open Terminal and copy:
    sqlite3 ~/Library/Application\ Support/Dock/*.db "DELETE from apps; \
DELETE from groups WHERE title<>''; DELETE from items WHERE rowid>2;" \
    && killall Dock
Go to Applications and drag the apps to Launchpad

Ever since upgrading to Mountain Lion, my AOL messages sometimes, but not always open with a blank page. If I open AOL in Firefox, the messages open fine.  This does not happen with any messages by any means, and it is not any type of certain message. In fact, in the same screen I can often open an email from the same sender with email intact. This is weird. Sometimes I close the page and open a new page. Sometimes that works and sometimes it does not. It is a very annoying thing.

    Hi,
When you start Messages fro the first time you are asked for an Apple ID
When this is verified and entered it appears in Messages Menu > Preference > Accounts and is Enabled.
The App should have also picked on on those iChat Accounst you had before.
These should be Enabled if they were when you last used iChat.
Exactly which "Accounts" are logged in can be seen in Message Menu > Accounts and will include the iMessage "Account" and Bonjour.
In the Window menu you will see CMD +0 for the Messages window and CMD+1 for the "Buddies" window which is a combined list at this stage.
Go to the Preferences > General Section and Untick the "Collect all accounts into one list".
This will give you separate iChat type Buddy lists.
You can check if that account/Buddy list is set to Invisible or if in the Preferences > Accounts > Security you have settings that will block some people from seeing you as On line.
You are saying Buddies can see you as On Line which implies they are still sending to your AIM based Names (@Mac.com is a valid AIM Screen Name)
I am not sure from your post if you are trying to iMessage their email IDs thinking they are Apple IDs and that they are using Messages as well.
There is no Buddy list for iMessages side
No-one can tell you are "On Line" until they have your details in the "To" spot in Messages with the correct iMessaged contact info (iPhone Number or Apple ID)
Obviously an Apple ID can be an email or look like one.
In some cases they are also valid AIM Screen Names as well.
In the case or the @mac.com name you may have linked this Apple ID to iMessages as well.

I have a macbook pro with OSX 10.5.8.  How do I upgrade to Mountain Lion when it is available?  I need to upgrade to run quickbooks and other apps

First, you need Snow Leopard (10.6): http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A. Then you use Software Update to update it to 10.6.8. When Mountain Lion (10.8) comes out, find it in the Mac App Store.

  • Problems with apps since upgrading to Mountain Lion

Since upgrading to Mountain Lion, I get the message "Application Not Responding" for several apps (Quark 9, CS5 apps, and Word for Mac) after they've been sitting open and not being used for a couple of hours. I have to "Force Quit", then restart the program. Not sure what's going on. Didn't have this problem with Lion. Any suggestions on what I can do to fix this?

OK, I updated Quark 9, CS5 apps & Word for Mac. Quark 9 and InDesign are still giving me "Application Not Responding" after being open and unused for a few hours. The other apps are now working fine...Photoshop, Illustrator, Adobe Bridge and Word for Mac. Any suggestions for what I should do about Quark and InDesign?

  • HT3748 since upgrading to Mountain Lion, my Mac Mail no longer works well w/exchange email; so, I have had to switch back to outlook. Now, how can I use outlook for mac's calendar and contacts with icloud?

Since uprgading to Mountain Lion, my mac mail no longer works with my exchange email properly. I finally gave up and moved back to outlook for mac, but now my new issue is using outlook calendar and contacts with icloud; possible?

Sorry but I'm really not to sure what I have. I'm not good with knowing my computer model. All I know is that its a MacBook running with Leopard. I got my computer last year so I suppose its fairly new. Is there a place on my computer where I can check to see what it is (sorry to be so dumb with my own mac)
And everything else works fine. I love Safari. It's just my mail that doesn't work. Here's the message that pop up several times.
"The MobileMe IMAP server “mail.mac.com” rejected the password for user “akcastaldo”
Please re-enter your password, or cancel."
The only problem here is, even though I enter my password it doesn't do anything. It makes that message go away for about 3-5 mins. After that it pops right back up. And I can't even go into my preference and change my email password. So I don't know what to do.

  • I have an iMac (2007) with osx 10.5.8, I would like to upgrade to mountain lion 10.8. Is it possible?

I have an iMac (2007) with OSX 10.5.8 and I want to upgrade it to mountain lion. It tells me I must have OSX 10.6 or higher but it won't let me upgrade to that. Is it possible or do I have to buy another iMac? Love my iMac! I'll never have a PC again. Macs all the way.

Upgrade Paths to Snow Leopard, Lion, and/or Mountain Lion
You can upgrade to Mountain Lion from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mountain Lion can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for $19.99. To access the App Store you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.6 or later installed.
    Upgrading to Snow Leopard
You must purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mountain Lion if your computer meets the requirements.
         Snow Leopard General Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel processor
           2. 1GB of memory
           3. 5GB of available disk space
           4. DVD drive for installation
           5. Some features require a compatible Internet service provider;
               fees may apply.
           6. Some features require Apple’s MobileMe service; fees and
               terms apply.
    Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mountain Lion, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion by contacting Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service - this includes international calling numbers. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
         Lion System Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
               or Xeon processor
           2. 2GB of memory
           3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
           4. 7GB of available space
           5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.
    Upgrading to Mountain Lion
To upgrade to Mountain Lion you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Purchase and download Mountain Lion from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mountain Lion is $19.99 plus tax. The file is quite large, over 4 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
OS X Mountain Lion - System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion
            1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer)
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer)
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer)
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)
             7. Xserve (Early 2009)
         Are my applications compatible?
See App Compatibility Table - RoaringApps.
Am I eligible for the free upgrade?
See Apple - Free OS X Mountain Lion upgrade Program.
For a complete How-To introduction from Apple see Upgrade to OS X Mountain Lion.
Note that you need a specific 2007 model to run Mountain Lion.

can anyone help me... since i downloaded mountain lion when i try and forward a email with an attachment pdf or excel it will tell me in a yellow box above my recievers email address " ID problem with files" or something like that.. HELP...... thanks

Let me guess: you're using a Hotmail account.
Look what I've found, it seems to have to do with MS Silverlight. Update that, and all should be good.

  • Double-Clicking JPG's doesn't work in PS7

    Q. When I double click some image files in Explorer, or select Open With, Photoshop starts but instead of loading the file presents a New Image d/box.
    A. XP/Win2k has put in a bad registry key used for opening that kind of file. If you feel *comfortable* editing the registry, you can find the bad key at
    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Applications\Photoshop.exe\shell\open\command\(Default)
For some reason, sometimes Windows XP creates this key the first time without "%1" at the end. Delete the (Default) entry, go to Windows Explorer, select a file type you want to open in Photoshop, right click, go to Open With, select Choose Program, click Browse (Photoshop won't be in the list after deleting the registry key), select your Photoshop executable, and make sure "Always use..." is checked.
If you do not feel comfortable editing the registry DO NOT DO THIS.
You can work around it by dragging the image onto the Photoshop main window background after Photoshop is opened.

    Donald:
How does it look when you double click on it? What color mode is it? Color sRlGB or grayscale?
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance. iPhoto doesn't not have to be closed to run it, just idle.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Recently my iPad does not consistently respond to a single or double click on the home button and i've had no choice but to turn it off and back on to escape fron the app  i'm using. Can't say it is consistent with any one app. Suggestions are asked for

My ipad recently seems to be freezing and not responding to home button single or double clicks?

While this could potentially be a hardwar issue:
Try a rest: Simultaneously hold down the Home and On buttons until the iPad shuts down. Ignore the off slider if it appears. Once shut down is complete, if it doesn't restart on it own, turn the iPad back on using the On button. In some cases it also helps to double click the Home button and close all apps from the tray before doing the reset.
If the reset doesn't work, you may need to consider restoring the iPad to factory settings
