Single pixel line anomaly

Over the course of the last year, since I first bought my 17inch powerbook, I've been experiencing the dreaded "line of death" that seems to be coming up in AL and TI powerbooks. It was easily taken care of in the past by gently moving the frame back and forth or rubbing on the top of the screen, so easily taken care that I was not even able to bring it to an Apple Genius without it reverting to its proper state by the time I got to the Apple store. This happened twice.
Now that I am well into my second year of the powerbook's use, it's ironic that I had been reading that over time, the problem gets more stubborn.
Well, here we are : I've had the line now for 2 days straight with no signs of it disappearing. From what I can surmise, it seems to be a hardware defect that crops up over time. From investigating the issue, it seems that the connector ribbon at the LCD panel somehow short circuits, thereby causing the dominance of one color over the other two. Anyway, that's all guesswork.
So I'm wondering : who out here in Apple Discussion land has experienced the same issue and what did you do about it ?
I read somewhere that Apple removed a posting about this issue in the past so if that happens in this case, anyone here is welcome to contact me at the gmail acct of my login name here. This might eventually be the stuff of a blog. Who knows... In the meantime, there's got to be a solution other than buying a whole new screen... Changing the ribbon out perhaps ?
Here is a link to a photo of my anomaly :
http://www.1000wds.com/apple/singlepixel.jpg

There seems to be a whole bunch of us but, so far the only word from apple to me was bring it in and we'll look at it!!!
Unfortunatley I can't for at least another 6 weeks!!!!!
Regardinging you "emergence" timing... I think mine showed the same symtoms... I do video and graphic animation editing, also I noticed that at first pointing a small desk fan on my desk, at the back of the screen seemed to alleaviate the issue for a while but when, as I do daily almost, I went "mobile" from desk and fan! Bang straight back and now it's permanant seemingly.
When I get to Singapore for my leave I'll update on all that happens with my APP warrenty.
Good luck and stay calm

  • Single pixel white line across macbook pro retina screen

I have a Mid-2012 model of the Macbook Pro 15inch with Retina screen which is just out of 1 year warentee.
There has suddenly appeared a very thin white (pixelated) line across my screen - about 1/3 way down from the top.
Its constantly there, but more visible on a grey background.
I've contacted Mac about it and they say since its out of warentee they can't help!
Its literally 14months old... almost seems like the issue is perfectly timed to happen just out of warentee!
I'd be keen to hear if others have experienced similar problems with the retina screen or have found any solutions!

  • Just a single pixel.

I can't find a method in graphics or ghraphics2d that will allow me to change a single pixel in the paintComponent method. the best I can do is a very short line (g.drawLine(x, y, x, y)). surely a method like this would call a method that draws a dot, but I can't find it. a little help please.

This is just my 2 cents.
somebody must know more about the 'graphics' class,
and how the drawLine method is programmed - it must,
itself, draw one pixel at a time.Well, maybe not. A Java implementation does not talk to the hardware. It will generally have to call some native method that calls a 3rd party graphics implementation (X, WinG, Direct Draw, etc. ), which in turn could call another level of abstraction... including the driver and eventually hardware. There's no guarantee that a 3rd pary API or interface will have a "drawPoint(x,y)" method on ever conceivable OS and graphics configuration. Furthermore it might be the case that a particular optimization occurs in the hardware level. Maybe some graphics hardware is only capable of drawing "lines" even if they are only 1 pixel long. Certainly hardware accellerated 2d and 3d graphics aren't drawn 1 pixel at a time at the software level. It makes sense that a filled rectangle should be done at hardware level, probably evel lines.
Probably the most overhead here is putting 2 extra values on the call stack.
Anyway, I think the old saying about premature optimization is as true here as it is otherwise. If you can actually show with the use of a profiler that an application's bottleneck is the Graphics.drawLine method, and that there's no more efficient way to write the app, THEN we have a problem.

Exactlly which model iMac do you have?
see > How to identify iMac models
Unfortunately that is not all that uncommon for the Early Intel iMac's given there age and the fact that the air intakes are probably choked with dust. Then add the extra heat caused by running a more intense OS X which is causing it to run a little warmer than normal and putting extra stress on the graphic and display components.
My 6½ year old 17" Early 2006 Core Duo w/2GB of RAM is also running 10.6.8 and is also starting to get a single line that (knock on wood) goes away after a few minutes, while many others started getting permanent ones after 2 or 3 years. One thing that I think has helped, is that about every 3 or 4 months I shutdown and vigorously vacuum out the bottom grill work and small vent under the stand to keep it running cool.
On that note: unfortunately I can only suggest that you clean your intake vents and hope that no permanent or irreversible damage has been done.

  • Multiple arrows on a single curved line

Is there a way to put multiple arrows on a single curved line?

    kjh,
Depending on the curvature, you may get away with a Scatter Brush in the form of the arrowhead shape:
    1) Create the path with its normal Stroke Weight, and create a copy on top of it;
    2) Create the arrowhead shape and Brush>New Brush with a suitable Spacing;
    3) Apply the Scatter Brush from 2) to the copy path from 1).
Or you may try a Blend, between two identical arrowheads:
    1) Create the path with its normal Stroke Weight, and create a copy on top of it;
    2) You probably need to Object>Path>Add Anchor Points a sufficient number of times (to get an even distribution);
    3) Create the Blend, with the desired number of steps/intermediate arrowheads;
    4) Select the Blend and the copy path and Object>Blend>Replace Spine.
Ultimately, you may need to do it manually.

  • Single Vertical Line When Using ADF for Scan or Copy on HP Officejet Pro 8600

HP Officejet Pro 8600 Premium Printer (CN577A)
    OS: MS 7 64 bit
When using the ADF for my CN577A HP Officejet Pro 8600 Premium printer, I get a single vertical line on the document that is produced. This occurs when copying or scanning, both in black and white, and in color. If I scan or copy using the glass, I don't get the vertical line.
I already tried the troubleshooting.  I unplugged the printer, left it without power for several minutes; that didn't correct the problem.  Next, I cleaned the rollers and the glass; I still get the vertical line, but only when using the ADF.
My firmware version used is current (CLP1CN1150CR).
    What should I check next?
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

The ADF uses its own glass area on the scanner bed, it is the narrow (about 1" wide) strip on the left.  Cleaning this area should resolve the issue.  A single small spot would cause the issue you are seeing.

My 06' Macbook Pro crashed with vertical, green pixelated lines and now will not advance past the turn-on screen with the apple filled with green lines as well. Then, it says to hold down the power button to restart. I have tried several times to get it past this point but tnothing helped.
I have an appointment at the Apple store today, but was wondering : will all of the information and files on my desktop be lost? Or is this a logic board problem?
Any help is much MUCH appricated.

I'm not sure, if you're out of warrenty it'll cost quite a bit for the replacement of the logic board replacement...unless you have apple care. you could ask apple to try and recover your hard drive but i'm not sure.

  • I updated my iMac to 10.7.3 and about an hour later the screen began to flicker with a gray line on the upper side, and it also flicker green and red small pixel lines all over the screen, mainly green.

I updated my iMac to 10.7.3 and about an hour later the screen began to flicker with a gray line on the upper side, and it also flicker green and red small pixel lines all over the screen, mainly green. The computer froze with these pixels, so I shut it off and restarted it, and there were this green lines everywere. So I turned it off, and the next day I turned it on and it began to work just fine, but suddenly the same thing happened again, and when I restart the computer again there are these green and some red pixels everywere.
I've read 10.7.3 is giving people many problems, but I never saw that it gave one like this. How can I fix this, or what will Apple do to fix this problem they caused me with their update.
    Thanks

Contact Apple Service, iMac Service or Apple's Express Lane. Do note that if you have AppleCare's protection plan and you're within 50 miles (80 KM) of an Apple repair station, you're eligible for onsite repair since yours is a desktop machine.

  • JS/PS CS3: identify single pixels sticking out

In a bitmap, is it possible to identify single pixels sticking out from a shape? Let's say I have this black shape in a black-and-white bitmap:
       xxxxxxxx
       xxxxxxxx
       xxxxxxxx
       xxxxxxxx
            x
an 8 by 4 rectangle with one pixel sticking out from the bottom. Question is, can I find such pixels using a script (JS) and make it white?
    Thanks,
    Peter

Peter, I added the work around to the script. It appears to fix the problem. With my basic test files.

  • How to copy and paste a single pixel

How to copy and paste a single pixel
I want to copy a single pixel and then paste it in the
    position of
another pixel in the same image.
(This is in effect changing the colour of the target pixel,
    isn't it.
But in my case copying an existing pixel seems simpler than
    selecting a
colour from the swatch or using the colour picker.)
What is the most efficient way of doing this?
I tried to select one pixel with the marquee tool. Then
    copied it with
control-C, but then how do I select the target pixel and
    paste with
    control-V?
    Thanks for your help.

  • Single horizontal line (picture attached)... bad LCD?

Out of the blue one day, my display suddenly showed a thin 1 pixel line that goes from the left to the right of the screen. It changes color depending on what I've got on the screen.
I opened up the computer to make sure everything was clean and dust free. Things looked fine. Do you think that the LCD is toast? Maybe a cable needs to be tightened? I have no clue.
If I've got to replace the LCD screen, it's probably not worth it.
    What do you guys think?

    Welcome to the Apple discussions.
I would want to run the Apple hardware test, or either of the TechTool programs, to verify if there is an obvious hardware issue. Insert your original OS X disk that came with the system that says in small print on the label 'AHT Version x.x'. Reboot holding the alt key down, choose the Apple hardware test, and when prompted, choose the extended test. What you're looking for is whether it identifies any issues with the video circuit. If the issue is on the logic board, that leads you down one path. If no issues are identified, more likely it's an issue with the LCD.

  • Is there way to put single text line in each response via WL configuration.

              Hello,
Our partners are using SunOne server and
they can easy include P3P policy file to each response via server configuration.
Can we do it with WL?
We have more than 3000 JSPs to modify.
I think filter will slow down our site.
We already put P3P policy in well known place but browser can't find it

The quickest approach that comes to mind is
    a. create 3 separate titles in the Titler (Text Menu/New Text/Default Text)....
    food, goes on Video 4
    routes, goes on Video 3
    hostels, goes on Video 2
Arrange them so that when viewed they are viewed as
    hostels
    routes
    food
    b. Move hostels (Video 2) to where you want it to start in relation to
"Today I am going to talk about travelling in the North of Scotland and give advice on how to get by. I will talk about the best value hostels " - the word 'hostels' appears first at the top right of the screen
Move routes (Video 3) to where you want it to start in relation to
"I will describe the best routes to take" - the word 'routes' now appears under the the word 'hostels'
Move food (4) to where you want it to start in relation to
"And finally, I will describe the best places to eat traditional Scottish cuisine" - the word 'food' now appears under 'routes'.
    c. When all that is done to this stage, it might look like this...
Now to arrange and drag out track content so that we see
    hostels
    then hostels + routes
then hostel + routes + food
when they are supposed to appear in conjunction with the video's dialog.
The final workspace should look like
Please give this a try. And, do not hesitate to let me know if you need clarification on anything described.
We will be watching for your results.
    Thank you.
