Single sided transition

Maybe I'm being dense but I wondered if there was a way to apply a default transition to a CG title as a single sided transition? I know you can select two adjacent clips and use the keyboard shortcut to apply the transition between them but one thing I miss that my Avid Liquid system did was to let you with a keystroke apply a transition at the selected point, not just between clips. This allowed me to place a CG clip on the timeline, move the pointer to the front of the clip and hit a key dropping a transition in and then move the pointer to the back of the clip and hit the key again dropping a transition out.
I know I can grab the transition from the folder and drag it where I want but it's much faster to just select/click/apply. When I'm working on a project with hundreds of CG titles disolving on and off saving a few seconds on each one adds up. Unfortunately I don't have the CG clips disolve one to another to another.

I've tried that, and unless I'm doing something wrong if I select a clip with nothing next to it and hit the default transition key absolutely nothing happens.
My timeline is fairly simple, I have video clips on track 1 and CG on track 2. Selecting a clip of CG and hitting default transition does nothing. Selecting two adjacent clips and hitting default transition applies the transition between the two clips. I've tried it with the pointer at the start of a CG clip, at the end of a CG clip and even in the middle... still I get no result at all.

Selecting the CG Clip and hitting default transition does nothing. Yes, I can grab, drag & drop the transition to the clip but that's a longer process. Is this doable and I just have something set wrong somewhere or am I out of luck?

Single ended transitions in Premiere CS5

I have 2 adjacent clips on the timeline. I want to add a "single ended transition (cross dissolve) to the end of clip 1 to fade it down. I then want to add another single ended transition (cross dissolve) to the beginning of clips to fade it up.
I have done this zillions of times with Premiere CS4. Just drag the transition to the end of the first while holding down the control key. The control key tells Premiere that you want a single ended transition instead of the normal cross fade of the 2 clips. Then do the same thing with the control key for the second clip. This work flawlessly in CS4.
However, it does not work so well in CS5. I can drag the transition to the end of the first clip and as I get near the point between the 2 clips, the cursor will change to show where the transition will go, at the end of the left clip, at the beginning of the right clip, or in the middle. I choose the end of the left clip. The problem arises with the second clip. As you drag the transitions to the timeline, the clips will darken at the point where the transition is going to be placed. This happens when I do the left hand clip. When trying to do this again with the right clip, the clip will not "darken" to show selection and the transition will not be entered.The control key seems to have no effect. If I move the right hand clip so that there is a gap in the middle, then the single ended transitions work on both clips. Of course, this action is the default for clips that have a gap on either side.
I looks like Adobe has made some changes to CS5 in this area. So the question is how do I do single ended transitions to adjacent clips in Premiere CS5?

I'm slightly embarrassed to say that I never knew about the Control key modifier for drag-and-dropping transitions! I just tested this in CS5, and it does indeed work. I put two clips end-to-end, and holding Control down, dragged a cross dissolve to the outgoing/A clip, and then one to the incoming/B clip. The net effect is that the A clip fades out, and the B clip fades in, instead of being a double-sided cross dissolve.
I'm not sure why it's not working in your case (footage, maybe?), but it certainly works here, and I learned something I've been pining for for almost three years!

Getting "layer break" error message when trying to Preview a single sided DVD, or build an ISO image or disk folder

Hi! Hoping someone might be able to help with an odd problem. I haven't found anything in the forums or the web that match my symptoms.
I've been using Encore CS6 (v6.0.1.013) on a MacBook retina over the past year to successfully create a number of single sided DVDs with menus, chapters, and all that. I usually make a copy of a previous DVD project, and then replace video assets with the new files and transcodes, move and rename chapter markers, and rework the menus in Photoshop. I then will build ISO images for both DVD and Blu-Ray (both single-sided), and use those to burn many copies of each DVD for clients.
This week, while developing one of these projects, when trying to build a DVD ISO image that looked like it would fit on a 4.7 GB DVD, I received the "layer break" message ("The chosen layer break does not satisfy dual layer requirements. To fix this, either set a new layer break manually, or choose to set layer break automatically.") because (I'm guessing) the material was too long for the 4.7 GB DVD (the Build screen now shows about 5GB of material are in the project). This is the first time I've seen that message - usually Encore just tells me the material is too big for the DVD.
I re-transcoded the material down to well under 4.7 GB (about 3.9 GB), reverted and replaced the transcoded files, and now the DVD build screen shows that there are about 700MB free on a 4.7 GB DVD. But I still have not been able to build any version of the DVD (image, folder, disc), without getting the "layer break" message. I also now get this same layer break message when trying to "Preview from Here" any menu, killing my ability to preview the DVD menus in Encore.
Just to see what would happen, I chose an 8.4GB Dual Layer DVD, and chose "manual" instead of "automatic" for the layer break selection, but never got the layer break selection dialog box, just the "layer break" error message.
I typically build both DVD and Blu-Ray images from the same material in the same project. I use different transcoding settings for each, and I have been able to build a Blu-Ray ISO without this "layer break" error on the Blu-Ray build (which is about 24.5GB when built). And as I mentioned before, this is the first project on which I've even seen this layer break message.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! I'd rather not recreate the project from scratch, but I'm worried that I may have to.

The total project being small enough may mean you have one layer that is too big. Both layers have to be smaller than half the disk, right?
Be sure you "run as administrator" for dual layer projects.
Encore may set the layer break correctly if it finds a good place, but there are numerous complaints about it being unreliable.
Build to a folder (no layer break is set), then use ImgBurn to build and ask to be prompted for layer break. ImgBurn is also unreliable under some circumstances.
The most frequent problems appear to be when there is no good location for a break. Do a search for "layer break imgburn" and you will see a variety of strategies.

Why do double-sided copies run off the edge when single-sided do not?

Hi...
I just made a document in Pages that is essentially one big table (or in other words, a spreadsheet without having to purchase Numbers). When I print it as single-sided, it fits perfectly on the page. But if I click double-sided, without changing anything else, the left margin runs off the page. The nature of this is such that I don't really want to significantly reduce the size. Is there some trick to this, or do I just have to remember to print it one-sided?

There should be an arrow, to get more choices to show. Also the checkbox is just showing you the current selected, you change the setting by touch the big icon, not the checkbox. The touch panel is not a high resolution one, so try to touch the checkbox, result in the icon being selected, that's why the setting didn't change. Try find the 1:1 icon and touch that.

Printing Single Sided/Double Sided Forms in LiveCycle Desginer

Good day,
I have a 6 page form in LiveCyle Designer where I would like the following:
Page 1 - Print Single Sided
Page 2 - Print Single Sided
Page 3 - Print Double Sided
Page 4 - 2nd page of page3
Page 5 - Print Double Sided
Page 6 - 2nd page of page5
We have a copy machine in our office that's cable of printing duplex.
I know in the form properties you can check off to do duplex printing of your form but when I do that the first page of (Page 2) appears on the back of (Page 1) and I can't have that happened.
If anyone can assist me with this I'd truly appreciate it.
PS - I also tried the "Presence" section where you can choose one side printing only or two sided printing and that didn't work for me as well.
I'm using LiveCycle Designer ES2 9.0
* I tried creating master pages with the pages I wanted to do double sided printing and that didn't work as well.

I've searched the web about this whole master page stuff but I'm so confused.
What I've done is attached the document so if anyone could look at it and tell me what I need to do, I would appreciate it.

How to get Acrobat Portfolio to print mix of duplex and single sided documents?

When we create a Portfolio of documents, one advantage is to be able to print the entire Portfolio (say of a new hire kit) with one print command.
The files in the portfolio consist of some that need to be printed one sheet per page and other files need to be printed on both sides of the sheet.
While we can do this by adding extra blank pages to the single sided docs and adding blank pages to make duplex docs an even number of pages,
this makes viewing the Portfolio online cumbersome.
We should be able to selected a printing option for each file in the portfolio.

5520e single sided printing

This should not be this difficult, but I somehow can't figure out how to print single-sided on my new 5520e. The default is double sided printing. Anyone know how to change this?

Hi there, usually from within the application you are printing from you would select Print and then set the properties in the dialog box that opens. Are you printing from a desktop or mobile environment? What OS or device are you trying to print from?

While we can do this by adding extra blank pages to the single sided docs and adding blank pages to make duplex docs an even number of pages,

We should be able to selected a printing option for each file in the portfolio.

Then you can try two things one is create a new user account and log in to see if that works.
then you can re install the printer driver and illustrator in the same order that you did on the computer that works.
Make certain you remove the printer from the printer list and trash botht he preferences an settings folder for the printer and illustrator before reinstalling.
Or perhaps your settings in the page set up is screwy from the print dialog access the page set up and make certain you have your printer selected and the right pages. Then in the print dialog make certain that you have defined by drivers.

Compatiblity problems: Single-sided vs. Double-sided DIMM

Hello everyone, I just registered.
Short version:
I'm considering purchase of one of the following motherboards: G41M-P26, G41M-P21.
(the forum doesn't allow me to post links, even to MSI site )
My question: will either of them work with my two pieces of 2GB sigle-sided DIMMs?
Detailed version:
I've recently bought a motherboard (not an MSI product, different chipset then G41), but had to return it to seller, due to its memory compatiblity problem (details to follow). Now, I'm looking for another motherboard, so I need information BEFORE next purchase, so that the problem wouldn't happen again to me.
A bit of technical background. As I've just learned, memory modules have implicit parameter, called rank or row. It has nothing to do with timing. It's more like axis, or dimension. It has effect on how memory controller combines multiple memory chips on a DIMM into logical memory unit.
(again, the forum doesn't allow me to post links. I wanted to link to Wikipedia pages about "Memory Geometry" and "Memory Rank")
Usually, single-sided DIMMs are rank 1, and dual-sided DIMMs are rank 2. Therefore, rank can be guessed from how the DIMM looks. The only 100% reliable method, is datasheet from DIMM manufacturer. For example, "module organisation is 2R x 8" means it's rank 2.
Generally, a motherboard should work with any rank, as I guess, it's supposed to give DIMM manufacturer flexiblity to pick chip density. My problem with the returned motherboard seems like I've bumped into some really exceptional case.
Facts about the mobo:
- it had 4 DIMM slots, with max 2GB per slot limit.
- it did not work with single-sided 2GB DIMM.
- it did work with dual-sided 2GB DIMM.
My guess at explanation, is the mobo has some kind of limit of maximum memory per "row" it can address per slot. So that if you want to utilise full slot capacity, both "rows" must be populated. I believe if I had 4 pieces of 1GB single sided DIMMs, it would work.
Further guess at explanation, is that I happened to have bad luck, as I combined relatively old mobo (as it's LG775 obviously) with brand new DIMMs. Manufacturing densities are increasing over time, and in consequence typical DIMM organisation changed too.
Now, back to MSI.
I've looked into "memory test report" documents at MSI site, for each of the two MSI motherboards I mentioned in the beginnng. They contain list of DIMMs that were tested with these motherboards. I used DIMM product numbers to get datasheets from manufacturers, to learn what rank those DIMMs are. If I had found tested single-sided 2GB DIMM on the list, it would have confirmed that my planned purchase is safe.
The result is, I didn't find any 2GB DIMM that would be rank 1. Not a single one. All of 2GB DIMMs on the list are dual-sided! That's totally at odds with the current situation on the market, where single-sided DIMMs are the norm.
To sum it up, "memory test report" documents didn't provide information, that would be either affirmative nor negative for my question. I'm helpless.

But better, contact MSI.
On the other hand, DDR3-1066 (CAS = 7) is not faster than DDR2-800 (CAS = 5).
So if you want 8GB, it's better to go with 4x2GB DDR2-800.
You can find some awesome & cheap Corsair kits (all of them with 128x8 double-sided IC's)

Duplex printing prints first page single sided

When I print duplex on Adobe Reader (odd # of pages) it always prints the first page single sided. How do I change it so that the last page prints single sided?

I've got a Brother MFC J6510DW, so it doesn't seem like a printer problem.
It works normally when I print from other programs as well, which makes it even more annoying.

1. To change it manually you have to deselect the following option:
Edit>Preferences>Type> Use Typographer's Quotes.
2. To access the option through vb script use the following syntax:
Document.TextPreference.TypographersQuotes
May be this will help you.

Can anyone assist. I have found out how to switch off the 2 sided printing on a job by job basis, but I want single sided as a default.

I am not sure why yours is defaulting to two-sided printing.
Open Text Edit from Applications.
Go to File, Print, click on the drop down and select Layout.
Uncheck the two-sided feature.
Then click on Presets near the top.
Select save as and provide a new name.
Type something in Text Edit and try printing it.
Then close and reopen Text Edit again, it should default to last preset that we made and printed to.
Try printing again to see if that worked.
If the doesn't work, select Standard from the Preset and check under Layout to see if the two-sided is checked or not.
Try printing again, if it is showing the one sided.
Let me know.
If the issue persists, delete and add the printer driver back in again from Printers and Scanners.

Crucial Ballistix (single sided) Not working with 1.B3 Sideffect

Uptil now I was using 4*512 Crucial Ballistix PC4000 BL6464Z505.16TG memory modules that are CL2.5. This is 4 modules of double Sided memory.
It was running at DDR400, 2-2-2-7 2.8V and windows was running fine, with the exception of a few BSODs time to time, and memtest86 giving a few errors.
So I replaced my memory (though the errors could just have been timing related) and crucial sent me 4*512 Ballistix PC4000 BL6464Z503.8TD rated at CL3. All are matched memories as before. But these new memory modules are single sided.
Now when I put 1,2,3 or 4 of these modules in, the system goes past the POST, but then hangs. Even hangs within the BIOS setup manu. Just locks up.
I put my old memory back in and everything starts off and works fine.
Is there some problem with this new BIOS I am using ?
Should I switch back to official or sideeffects 1.A ballistix edition.

I also tried Sideeffect especially modded Ballistic edition BIOS and had to remove it due to instability caused by the pernanent Memory Timing changes that he has included in it. Other unofficial BIOS also have permanent memory timing changes included in them which can cause you hardship. This is why they recommend that you try their modded memory timings on your system with A64Tweaker first before actually flahing your BIOS.
I am now using 1A3 Rev4 No Temo by Syar and it is working very well. All BIOS options are unhidden and temperatures have been remove. Syar has also not introduce any personalise memory timing so the BIOS is unlikely to cause a conflict on your system. You can download it from here: http://www.msi.sploitz.com/

I have recently ordered several different models of them... the Classic, Pro and the Left Bud. It took only a few days for them to arrive...and I am happy to say...they work great! I had the chance to talk with Barry, the inventor of these devices. He said that he was urged by a friend to come up with a headphone/earbud with both left and right channels so that his son (deaf in one ear) could hear them while listening to his iPod.

Thank you for posting this. I lost the hearing in my left ear due to a cholesteatoma and this single sided deafness has meant that I have found it difficult listening to music through headphones for a long time!
I have been searching for a single headphone for a long time but I could not find one. If I use a standard set of headphones, then I find that I only get half of the song (because it is in stereo). I had settled on using an adaptor that plugged into the jack on the ipod and then the headphones plugged into the adaptor but this was far from perfect. I contacted Apple a couple of years ago before I purchased my ipod, explained the situation and in reference to the left ear bud, I was asked "Can't you just cut the other one off?"
A couple of questions:
Do you know whether the company that you provided the link to ship to the UK?
Do you get all of the song through the single ear bud?
Do you find that the ear bud stays in or falls out a lot?
My 30GB ipod has recently died on me and I have started using my mobile phone as a music player and had the problem of not getting all of the sounds from the music because I was just using the right earphone. I started messing around with the settings and happily, under the player settings, I can adjust it so that the balance is 100% to the right. This means that all of the music and sound comes out of the right earphone.
I am thinking of purchasing a Nano. Do the latest generation of ipods have this feature? If not, can it be added?
I am sure that there is a way of saving the music onto your computer a certain way so that the playback is not in stereo, but I like listening to the music in stereo whilst in the car or through external speakers etc. so I am reticent to change this.
