Single tone beep on silent mode

My iPhone 6 (running iOS 8.1) started producing a low volume single tone 'beep' on silent mode. It's basically turning every sound you usally hear when the phone isn't on silent mode into beeps: One beep for turning on silent mode, two beeps on receiving a message etc.
At first I thought it might be one of the accessibility options, but I couldn't find anything close to this. What could be the problem?

    Hey Jan813,
there is nothing wrong with your or your friends phone. this is due to a simple setting that you can see:
    Menu-tools-profiles-silent-personalise,
in this you will find an option for 'warning tones', if this is set as 'on' your phone will sound the capture tone even when on silent mode and if it is set as 'off' your phone will not sound the capture tone in the silent mode.
    hope this helps!
thanks.. i've tried that too.. but their phones still have the sound.. they've been bugging me to tell them how i did it to my phone.. heheh
    but thanks anyway..

  • IPhone not playing alert tone after switching off silent mode

Hi I have been having an issue ever since getting my iPhone 6 plus where when I take the phone off silent mode the alert tone does not play when I receive a SMS, iMessage etc. The phone vibrates but does not sound the alert tone, all other sounds work like lock sound, keyboard clicks and ring tone.
I have updated to the latest IOS 8.1.3 but the issue still seems to be happening.
I just had a chance now to troubleshoot and noticed that this has something to do with the volume control that you pull up from the bottom of the screen.
with the volume set to the minimum setting the alert tone does not play but it does play with the volume set mid-way or maximum. Depending on the volume setting depends how loud the alert tone plays.
I can reproduce the issue with these steps:
turn volume to minimum using the pull up menu at the bottom of the screen
set phone to silent using the switch on the left side of the iPhone
    lock the screen
take the phone off silent mode
receive an SMS and the alert will not play.
has anyone else come across this issue? i never had this problem with my iPhone 5 and i always had the volume set to a minimum.

    Hi Brenden_l,
It sounds like you are turning down the volume for alerts with the Control Center volume control, which is like turning them down with the side buttons.
    Control Center - iPhone
Control Center gives you instant access to the camera, calculator, AirPlay, and other handy features. You can also adjust the brightness, lock the screen in portrait orientation, turn wireless services on or off, and turn on AirDrop. See AirDrop.
Open Control Center.  Swipe up from the bottom edge of any screen (even the Lock screen).
You may want to change the Sound Setting to not have ringer and alert volume change with buttons.
    Volume controls - iPhone
Lock the ringer and alert volumes.  Go to Settings > Sounds and turn off “Change with Buttons.”
    Take care,

  • EMac 'beep' or single tone at boot

I shut down my eMac w/Tiger to install new RAM. Did everything as I should - everything unhooked, power cord left in - took off plate, touched metal to ground(?), pulled out power cord and installed RAM. Put it all back together and when I booted got a tone/beep, power light came on as did fan. Power light flashes every 10 or 20 seconds.
We upgraded equipment recently at the office so I ended up with the eMac. But, the tech, needing to migrate info from a g-4 tp a MacBook Pro couldn't find a firewire port on the g-4 so took out the hard drive from the g-4, put it in my eMac (firewire equipped) and made the transfer. All went well - put everything back together and I brought the eMac home. When I first booted, got the same tone/beep and fan. Next boot got the tone/beep, fan and grey screen, and finally when I booted all was fine. That was 1 month ago. I had an instance where I shut down becaue of a storm coming and when I rebooted later the same series of events happened, but finally booted up. I haven't had it shut down since, well once to restart from under the Apple and it came right back.
Now though, I'm getting no further than the beep/tone, fan running and dark screen.
    Any suggestions anyone?
    eMac OS 10.4.11

Went back in and switched RAM top to bottom (2 new 512s that caused all this). Still "beep"!
Went back in took out 1 of the 512s and put back in the old 256. Rebooted and up it came. When I checked memory specs in system profile it says the 256 was fine but the other slot was empty. Hmmm. Now, when I ordered this new RAM I specifically asked for C-3 and I don't see that designation on the new 512s, and they aren't as narrow as the earlier ones (by that I mean front to back).
Anyway, I'm on the right track. I'll check my records on what I ordered and hopefully get it corrected.
    Thanks for the input!

  • How can I change the settings such that the phone does not vibrate when I receive a message in silent mode, but vibrates for calls?

I'd like the phone to vibrate when I receive a call when it is in silent mode (as it already does) but I'd like it to not vibrate when I receive a text in silent mode. I know how to set both (calls and texts) to not vibrate in silent mode, or choose no vibration for texts when loud or silent, but not what I just mentioned. Thanks.

Try this - Settings > Sounds > Text Tone > Vibration (at the top) > None.
Edit - just read the last part of your post closer and I'm not aware of such an option.

  • C2-01 Silent Mode

My C2-01 has started 'playing up'. It's ringing as normal even when I've switched to 'Silent Mode' (much to my embarrassment when I was at movies last night).  I've never had this problem before...any suggestions?
Also, I've always used 'Conversations' for my text messages and they have appeared under the name of the caller stored in my phone but recently they appear under the number only (which is not much use as I don't recognise the numbers and have to open them up to identify them).  Alternatively, I can get them listed under the Name but singly and not in 'Conversation mode'?? Anyone else have this problem.

    Hi AnnJones,
    Welcome to Nokia Support Discussions!
What did you do to your phone prior to the issue? Try putting your phone in Normal mode and then put it back in Silent mode. Also, since there is no setting to switch the Conversation mode to off, I suggest that you try rebooting your phone by removing its battery and then put it back again.

    Hey Manish_sri,
Welcome to the BlackBerry Support Community Forums.
    Thanks for the question.
What version of BlackBerry 10 are you currently using? Go to Settings>About to find this information.  Also if you remove the battery and place it back in, do the notifications work again?
I look forward to your reply.
    Cheers.

  • Nokia 6500 Slide SIlent mode makes noises

I have a Nokia 6500 Slide, and whenever I put it onto silent mode, it still makes a noise (i.e a standard message tone) to inform me that I have received a message/call. I go to profiles and select everything to OFF, but it still continues to do this.
Is there anything I can do to fix this?
    Thanks in advance

Try typing *#7780* and default code 12345. Backup anything you want to keep, usually restoring settings doesn't delete anything, but better to be safe than sorry!
What might have happened is you had put your phone on silent mode, and then later on changed the ringtone whilst still on silent mode.

  • Nokia 6710 - ring tone sets to silent at random ti...

    Hi,
Having a random problem with my business phone.
Ringtone sometimes sets to silent mode. The only way to reset is to reboot/restart the phone. Have missed several business opportunities as a result of this issue!
Has anyone had the same problem or know of a solution to my dilemma?
    Phil.

Are you using the preinstalled tones or your own mp3s ect
if your using your own tones move them to the phones memory

  • IPhone 6 - Silent Mode

    iPhone 6 - Silent Mode
On the odd occasion, whilst my iPhone is in silent mode, it will make a sound as though a message has come through even though A. it's in silent mode and shouldn't 'bleep' and B. a message hasn't come through anyway.
    Anyone else having this issue?
    Thanks.

Updating to 8.0.2 MAY set your vibrate "tone" to none!
Assuming that vibe on ring and/or vibe on silent are turned on, check this...
Setttings > Sounds > Text Tone (This is misleading because it is ALSO where you set your vibrate "tone")
At the top you will see a setting named Vibration, which may be set to none after updating to 8.0.2 or 8.1
Tap on "Vibration" and select the vibration pattern that you like or create a new one by tapping "Create New Vibration"

  • Silent mode for lumia 710

Is there a silent mode in the lumia 710 that cuts out ALL sounds including gaming and all notifications.
I can see by the instruction manual where to change this, and it also says silent, but there is only ring and viabrate, or viabrate only.  This does not turn off all sounds including gaming and notifications.  I unticked all boxes under sounds, however I still get live update sounds.  There should be a silent mode but I cannot see it.
Has anyone else found where this is.

    Hi mark8188909,
When you switch silent mode on, all ringtones and alert tones are muted. Use this when you are, for example, at the cinema or in a meeting.
Press a volume key to see the volume status bar, then select ring . Silent mode  is switched on. If you have set your phone to vibrate, vibrate mode  is switched on instead of silent mode.
    Set your phone to vibrate
Select  >  and ringtones+sounds, and switch Vibrate to On .
Hope this helps and let us know how you get on.
    Regards,

  • Looking for an app that allows a contact to ring even in silent mode

Has anyone come across an app yet that will allow the phone to still ring even in silent mode?
I want to be able to NOT hear any of the emails or texts at night when I go to sleep but at the same time, I want to be able to have the phone ring through from certain contacts - in case of emergencies from my parents or my son.
This seems like a pretty simple request.

there isnt an app, but if you want to spend $99 like i did, you can get the beta version of IOS 6.  It has that exact feature built in!  It only rings emergency contacts and also if someone calls multiple times in 3 mintues or less. Its a cool feature.  With the $99, you get IOS 6 with all the new featues like maps etc... This isnt realeased to public untill fall.https://developer.apple.com/devcenter/ios/index.action

  • IPhone 5s with ios 8.2 - can't use touch function; must double tap each function key; can't shut down phone without a hard reset; every function results in a voice description even in silent mode.

I have a iPhone 5s and just installed the 8.0.2 ios. How do I stop getting audible descriptions of each action I take in silent mode? The Touch ID has ceased to function. The screen icons have to be double struck. I cannot scroll down past the first page of any screen. I must force a shut-down to turn the phone off.  How do I fix all these problems?

    Hello Gubus 2,
It sounds as though (no pun intended) VoiceOver is enabled on your iPhone. Pressing the Home button quickly three times should turn this feature off. Further information can be found in the iPhone user guide at the link below.

  • E72 problem to activate silent mode with 031.023

now it is very difficult to activate silent mode with the ctrl key !

I think this is not a bug, but a fix. In the previous FW it was TOO easy to switch to Silent mode and that would happen quite often by mistake (at least to me).
So I think that Nokia corrected this problem, but did not communicate properly with their customers....
