Sip options ping cucm
Hi -
I have a strange problem and I'm looking for ideas. I have a version 9.1.2 CUCM cluster with two nodes. I am setting up two SIP trunks to our CUSP and in CUSP I have configured the CAC to send an Options ping to each CM server. The subscriber is sending a 200 OK reply to the Options ping but the publisher is not.
I set up a packet capture on both servers and I can see the Options ping coming into both. I see the 200 OK from the subscriber but the publisher does not reply. Also, in the RTMT CM logs I can see the Options ping on the subscriber but the publisher log does not show any SIP requests.
These are both HP servers - not VM
I'm unclear on what services or profiles etc. might be missing or misconfiguration of one server over another. I have restarted the publisher as well as all SIP trunks and SIP profiles.

I attached the RTMT output. You will see that there are no SIP messages in this log. I also took a screen shot of the wireshark output from the CLI packet capture. If you look in the RTMT log for the corresponding time (the wireshark is EDT and the RTMT is CDT so RTMT is an hour difference) you will see that there are no messages (15:34:14:613 or 14:34:14:613 in RTMT). I also grabbed a screen shot of the wireshark for the subscriber - you can see the 200 OK reply.

Best way to implement SIP Options Pings on a SIP Trunk
I wanted to see if anyone had suggestions on the best way to configure SIP Options Pings.
Typically I would configure them per dial-peer. However, I really want to do it per destination IP address. I do not want a SIP Options ping for every single dial-peer being sent out every X seconds.
Example:
In my case I have 4 SIP trunks in the same CUBE. Each pointing to a different destination IP. There are 6 dial-peers per SIP trunk. I really do not want 24 option pings going out every X seconds. I guess I've never actually did a debug to see how many pings are going out at a time but I am assuming it sends one for each dial-peer or does it?
If I am correct in my assumption, is there way to only send one ping per destination IP and if that single IP goes unresponsive then all 6 dial-peers go down?Hello,
The OOD option ping is sent per dial-peer to the destination.
Restrictions
•The Cisco Unified Border Element OOD Options ping feature can only be configured at the VoIP Dial-peer level.
•All dial peers start in an active (not busied out) state on a router boot or reboot.
•If a dial-peer has both an outbound proxy and a session target configured, the OOD options ping is sent to the outbound proxy address first.
•Though multiple dial-peers may point to the same SIP server IP address, an independent OOD options ping is sent for each dial-peer.
•If a SIP server is configured as a DNS hostname, OOD Options pings are sent to all the returned addresses until a response is received.
•Configuration for Cisco Unified Border Element OOD and TDM Gateway OOD are different, but can co-exist.

Cisco CME to Cisco UBE Options ping no-worky....
Did anyone get SIP options pings working on a pure Cisco router (UBE to UBE and UBE to CME) environment? I have a pure Cisco 15.1 network that we are playing with option pings on. I see pings go out and 200 OK responses, but dial-peers are still busying out. Have tried both default and example settings from Cisco UBE deployment guides. Routers are working with options pings from external ITSPs, so know options replies are working and are supported. So, what's the magic sauce on Cisco IOS 15.1 for SIP options-keepalive?

I know that this is normal behavior for voice gateway(3925 in our case).
Is it possible to disable SDP in 200 OK message going out to ITSP. They said that their PBX can't recognize 200 ok with SDP as reply to sip Options message.Oleh,

RFC3261 states the following:
The SIP method OPTIONS allows a UA to query another UA or a proxy
server as to its capabilities. This allows a client to discover
information about the supported methods, content types, extensions,
codecs, etc. without "ringing" the other party. For example, before
a client inserts a Require header field into an INVITE listing an
option that it is not certain the destination UAS supports, the
client can query the destination UAS with an OPTIONS to see if this
option is returned in a Supported header field. All UAs MUST support
the OPTIONS method.
If the response to an OPTIONS is generated by a proxy server, the
proxy returns a 200 (OK), listing the capabilities of the server.
The response does not contain a message body.
So it looks like your ITSP hasn't designed their system based on this RFC. When you send an OPTIONs message, the response has to include the capabilities the other party can support.. -
SIP Options PING (CVP SIP Server Groups - Heartbeat)
The CVP Operations Console has a feature to enable SIP ping Options.
If you configure a SIP server group and enable heartbeats, the CVP Call Server sends a SIP ping option ever X seconds.
We have a SIP Server group for the CUCM servers and a group for the VXML Gateways.
The Cisco CUCM replies with a SIP 200 OK to these SIP 'ping' Options.
However the VXML Gateway does not. Does anyone know why not and if its possible to enable a gateway to reply to these SIP options?
Below is documentation on how to configure the Cisco Gateway to SEND ping options, but we don't that. We just need it to reply to the Ping OPTIONS sent by CVP.
For calls that originate from CUCM to CVP, they need to use the VXML Gateway SIP server group, (as it cannot route to the originator for VXML treatment).

See screen shot where you can see replies from the CUCM servers (.200, .201) but NOT from VXML Gateway (.250).

You may need to enable the SIP Traces in the voice Gateway and have a look how exactly gateway is processing and why 200 OK is not sent.
Can you share the IOS Version on the Gateway ?
Look at the below link and list of Resolved Caveats in 15.2(4)M, one of the caveat looks like your scenario. But i would recommend first look into Sip traces.

Unable to place call on calls on hold - SIP Trunk from CUCM to CUBE and from CUBE to ISTP
Hi Cisco Community,
I have a SIP Trunk setup between the CUCM and CUBE and another SIP Dial Peers from the CUBE to the ITSP. All incoming/outgoing calls, DTMF-Relay works well except one thing which is the ability to hold the call.
On the SIP Trunk from the CUCM to the CUBE, I did not select “MTP” because when I do so, I am forced to select my preferred MTP codec which when selected G.729/G.729a, all my outgoing calls goes out using G.729r8. This codec works well for most of the calls until the ITSP replies back with G.729br8. When this condition occur, my call simply fails (this is very intermittent and only some random numbers).
That said, I have some issues with DTMF Relay when I select MTP on the SIP Trunk. DTMF Relay only works if the call is G.729r8 all the way from the CUCM to the ITSP. If the ITSP replies back with G.729br8, the call might established but will simply be “voice-only”.
The current setup is no MTP is selected and everything is working perfectly. I am happy with that until I place a call on hold, which when I do so, the call immediately terminate. Could you please help me understand why?
I have all media resources configured such as G.729r8 MTP, G.729br8 MTP, G.711u MTP, Transcoding with all codecs, etc. All MRG and MRGL are configured on all devices and SIP Trunks.

I will try the commands suggested above and see if I can get DTMF to work correctly while interworking H.323 and SIP.
But my ultimate goal is to have SIP all way from the CUCM to the CUBE and from the CUBE to the ITSP.
If I enable SIP Early Offer with MTP on the CUCM going to the CUBE, all SIP Invite sent from the CUCM to the CUBE uses G.729r8 as the codec and once the call is established using G.729r8 should the ITSP reply with that codec, the call succeed and I am able to see an active MTP session using G.729 when I issue the command # show sccp connections.
One thing that I saw is that my ITSP love so much sending G.729br8 most of the times, so even if using SIP EO with MTP on the SIP Trunk to the CUBE, when I sent my INVITE out from the CUCM to the CUBE using G.729r8, specially on call center numbers such as 0800 numbers, you will see that the call established but the codec being negotiated is G.729br8 which is voice only (missing DTMF).
I will be doing some intensive test again later on this week and will send the logs.
Here is my question to both of you:
Which is the best way of having a proper SIP to SIP setup all the way that will not pose any problem?
Do I have to enable Early Offer on the SIP Profile used by the CUBE SIP Trunk or should I use the normal Standard SIP Profile? Do I need to enable MTP on my CUBE SIP Trunk or not?
From the CUBE point of view, I have a voice class codec that support G.729r8 or G.729br8 and the DTMF Relay method supported by the ITSP is RFC 2833.
I will send more logs for each scenario. I think that we are getting close to the resolution of this problem.

Third Party Phone over SIP Trunk with CUCM 9.x
Hi all,
I have a problem where my Third Party SIP phones wont go over the SIP trunk configured in my CUCM 9.x cluster. My Cisco phones work fine and goes out the trunk. I have noticed a distinct difference in wireshark with the invite packets from Third Party SIP phones and the Cisco ones.
I have configured the SIP trunk in CUCM with the following route pattern (60.!#)and configured it with associated group and list. Heres the differense between the invite packets from Cisco and Third Party phones.
Cisco Phone: INVITE sip.60xxxx%23@ipadress
Third Party SIP Phone: INVITE sip:[email protected]
It seems the Cisco phones gets some extra configured the Third Party ones dont...

Yeah i have DNS configured and i have the trunk pointed to a domain destination SRV record and like i said it works fine when calling from a Cisco phone. I tried changing the domain to an ip address but same result. I also changed the Plycom phone from being registered towards the domain of CUCM to an IP adress of CUCM and then the SIP INVITE messages in wireshark began to look kinda the same expet for the "%23" section but it still dont work.
When i look at the Real Time Data in RTMT the orig and final called from the cisco phone has stripped the 60 and forwared the rest of the number towards the correct domain for the SIP trunk.
When looking at the data from the Polycom phone the orig and final called data still contains the 60 prefix part and the called device name field is empty. The termination Cause Code is that the number requested is Unallocated/Unassigned..
In other words something is missing to get CUCM to strip 60 from the Polycom phones dialed number and send it towards the SIP trunk like it does when the Cisco phones call it.
Unfortunatley i dont have the meens to attach the trace...

3rd Party SIP phone to CUCM via SIP Proxy
Hi all,
This is the scenario i'm currently working on :
3rd party SIP phone <--> Internet <--> SIP Proxy <--> LAN <--> CUCM
The SIP proxy basically terminates everything (REGISTER, INVITE, etc), including the RTP stream.
I can register the 3rd party SIP phone to CUCM and in CUCM and i can see SIP Proxy IP Address as the registered address of the phone.
Calls from the 3rd party SIP phone to internal Cisco or internal 3rd party SIP phone and vice versa work like charm.
The only (fatal) problem is i can only register 1 3rd party SIP phone to CUCM via this SIP proxy.
Since this SIP Proxy always use its internal IP Address and port 5060 (TCP) as its source of registration, CUCM sees multiple registrations for multiple extensions (users) come from a single IP and port, and rejects the second registration request.
It seems that CUCM binds a digest user to an IP address and port, therefore cannot accept multiple registrations from a single IP and port.
Can anyone clarify this? Or is there any way around this?
I'm using CUCM 8.6.2 and CUCM 9.X (both do not work).

Because third-party SIP phones do not send a MAC address, they must identify themselves by using digest authentication.
The REGISTER message includes the following header:
Authorization: Digest username="xxxxxxxxxx",realm="ccmsipline",nonce="GBauADss2qoWr6k9y3hGGVDAqnLfoLk5",uri="sip:172.18.197.224",algorithm=MD5,response="126c0643a4923359ab59d4f53494552e"
The username, xxxxxxxxxxx, must match an end user that is configured in the End User Configuration window of Cisco Unified CallManager Administration. The administrator configures the SIP third-party phone with the user; for example, swhite, in the Digest User field of Phone Configuration window.

the easiest way is to get the snmp-server trap source command to work.
when you say it's not working, do you mean the branches still use the external interface as the source? or that it's sourced properly from vlan1 but somehow doesn't get encrypted?
what ios version are you running on the branches? maybe this is a bug and newer versions get it to work?
if you want to through another way than snmp-server trap source, then an ipsec redesign might be needed. As you noticed dmvpn would be the easiest. another solution would be dynamic lan-to-lan from branch to headend with gre tunnels (similar to dmvpn), and then force the route to the management network via GRE, this way the snmp trap source would default to use the tunnel ip address.

We will be upgrading soon to a new version of CUCM where 6921 would be supported but for now can we get them to work on CUCM 6 as SIP phones?

SIP Profile in CUCM 7.1.2.20000-2 issues
I am running into an issue in my production system regarding SIP Profiles. I have created a new SIP Profile that I need to use in some SIP Trunks. I need to cut down the "retry INVITE" from the default 6 to 3 to speed up a route group and route list hunt. However; I have set this option to three and the system continues to send 6 default invites. I have reset everything I can think of that uses this SIP Profile and to no avail. I have a 6.x CUCM system that honors this, an an 8.6 system that honors this - but the 7.1.2 system will not cut the retry INVITE down to what I specify. Any thoughts or help would be appreciated.

VCS X8.5.1 SIP TLS to CUCM 8.6.2
I'm having problems enabling TLS on my SIP trunk from the VCS to CUCM.
The SIP trunk shows active on the VCS, but I can't make calls from VCS to CUCM or from CUCM to VCS.
Before configuring TLS, I was able to make these calls.
With TLS enabled, the VCS search for calls from VCS to CUCM show the call rejected and give the reason "Forbidden"
Calls from CUCM to VCS get fast busy and I do not see anything in the search history on the VCS.
I've restarted the trunk and call manager service on the CUCM servers, but no change.
I'm not really sure where to go from here.

JoeI have again checked these and identical to what I set up, We have a multiple TX9000's on the CUCM in Secure mode working perfect and can make Encrypted calls to the TPS server via a TPS TCP Trunk.
but any calls to the VCS just fail on a VCS To CUCM Trunk using TLS with a fast busy signal. and the VCS doesn't even show a search history for it.
In the eyes of the VCS and the CUCM there is no Issues with the TLS SIP Trunk it seems to be working, but It seems SIP TLS packets don't even leave the CUCM. I have tried almost every resource known, and thought it was me just having some random issue until I saw Josef post the same issue.
Tomorrow I will check the X.509 names on the CUCM SIP Security Profile as this is the only thing I can think of that might cause the SIP trunk to be OK up but not route correctly maybe? -

i got some 9951 and 894X that i would them to auto register in sip but i got some 79XX that i would like them to auto register in sccp.
at the moment, some register in sip and other in sccp. is there an option to force them to using one or the other?
thanksPhones such as 9951 which can only do SIP will always auto register as SIP, for phone such as 79XX that can do either you define the preferred protocol under the enterprise parameters. You cannot define 2 different models that can do both protocols to behave differently.

Why is E61i SIP client pinging strange IPs?
I reflashed my E61i (using NOKIA's software updater). Then installed Trend Micro's Web Security and set the firewall to high (disallowing outgoing packets except those specifically allowed eg http)

E61i starts pinging IPs in china, spain, argentina, India, UK, Comcast etc at random intervals, sometimes as short as 2 minutes. Some of the IPs appear to be ADSL IPs.
Anyone has any explanation why NOKIA's SIP client should be pinging all these IPs? Is there a vulnerability in the SIP client?
Can anyone recommend a firewall which can tell you which process or application is trying to connect to the internet?
