Siren sound on iMac

Hi. I have an iMac with 2,66GHz Intel Core i5 processor and from somedays a siren sound is play randomly theough speakers (it desapears if I mute speakers). I've searched for information about it on Internet, but I haven't find something. The siren sounds 3 times and then play again some minutes later.
I'm very worry about it, because it could be a harware failure warning. Or a virus?. Please, help me. Thank you.

same thing here, this morning twice already, randomly a police siren sounded  , after 20 seconds it shuts off.
i had only safari open.
iMac i7 , snow lion.
console log does not show any process running at that time ...
where else can i look to find out what would do this?
Virus?
email attachment?
prank?
hardware failure?

  • Siren Sound on my iMac

    Hi,
I've already post this in other forum, but someone sugested to post it here.
From some time now, i have a siren sound that plays randomly on my mac. I have all my software off, but still it plays. How can i find from where is coming this sound and turn it off?
    Thanks
    Berto

Close all the applications first, then
    Go To finder> applications>Utilities (Folder)>Activity Monitor (Application)>
    once "Application Monitor" opens
check the list of things that are open on your mac.
Activity Monitor, and Finder Should be open
if another thing is open, well thats what it is haha.
To quit the application just select it and go to the Red Octagon icon on the top to quit the process.
    Hope this helps.

  • Disable sound on imac in target display mode

Have a question about disabling the sound.
I have a MacBook Pro connected to my iMac by the thunderbolt cable. I enable the target display mode on iMac with a script for disabling some configurations on iMac ( including the bluetooth for mouse and keyboard steal ).
I set the sound output in the MacBook Pro to the iMac DisplayPort.
The problem is now i have both outputs on iMac speakers. i want to disable all sound from iMac but keep the output from MacBook Pro on iMac speakers.
    Is this posible?
    Thanks.

Humm... I might go TosLink between the iMac and the FastTrack and then run the USB connection to the MacBook Pro when your using it in Target Display Mode.
Or vise Versa, leave the USB connected to the iMac and use the TosLink connection for the MacBook Pro.

  • Siren sound...again

Opteron 244 in MSI K8D Master-F. See more specs in my signature below.
PC powers up, 5-10 seconds later the infamous siren sound (continuos high-low-high-low tones) starts.
NOTE: The PC boots just fine, Windows runs at it should... CPU temp is 45°C, chassis intrusion is disabled and cleared, BUT the MSI PC Alert util still states that the chassis is open, grrr..shouldn't matter, tho'.
IT's just that f**** annoying siren sound!!!
Flashed BIOS today (could be something here), got the sound afterwards. Cleared CMOS, loaded CMOS defaults, cleared logs, cleared intrusion, disabled intrusion.
Google'd around, checked MSI and AMD sites.
Found 4 explanations for this particular mobo beep code: (It's got an AMI BIOS)
    1. Wrong RAM type
    2. CPU overheating
    3. Chassis intrusion
    4. PSU problem
...but the damn thing have been working fine the last cpl' days, so how do I stop the "#¤#"¤ sound?
Read somewhere that it was possible to hear this sound if the mobo THOUGHT there was no system fans inside the case. Well, the only fan connected to the mobo, is the CPU fan. The 7 case fans are controlled and powered separately from the mobo. So, if this is the problem, how do I "tell" the mobo to shup up about it?
Update: System won't boot at all, now. No signal on screen. Only siren sound. Fans and all spins up, tho'. Had the same situation when trying to run the PC on other memory types. Now I'm stuck. Again.
    Any ideas appreciated....

Hi all. Thanx for your ideas and efforts :-)
    FYI, current status:
No beeping now; I upgraded the BIOS to the newest one, cleared CMOS, disabled what-could-be-disabled regarding system chassis & cpu temp monitoring, and put a jumper on the chassis intrusion pins on the mobo.
Didn't get the Audigy2ZS to work, but funnily enough, the Audigy 1 works as a dream!
Don't have any onboard sound, nor AGP slot; this is a "server" mobo and therefore, some wiseass decided that AGP wasn't necessary. No big deal for me, really, as I'm not a gamer, but AGP _would_ have been nice.
Have only got 2 PCI slots, the rest are PCIX. The Audigy2ZS is detected and you can hear crosstalk in the SPDIF connector when something is played, but that's pretty much it. Gone through all system settings with a couple of friends (one of which is an mcse and -should- have known what he was doing) - reinstalled, checked the device manager, multimedia settings, volume controls, pretty much the lot. Card works as a dream in another PC, tho'. Anyway, no big deal, I'll just use it in one of my other machines and stick to the Audigy 1 in this one for now.
I'll guess it's cased closed for now :-)
    Thanx a mil'

If you have Headphones, Buds or a Speaker System plugged into the Audio Output (headphone) jack?
Unplug them and reset your internal speaker volume, then reconnect your Headphone, Buds or Speaker System.

  • What keeps making the cyclical noise while in sleep.  Sounds like iMac is loading a graphic or different screen.

What keeps making the cyclical noise while in sleep?  Sounds like iMac is loading a graphic or different screen.  Does it periodically while in sleep mode.  How do I correct this?  Just started doing it in the last few months.

I finally figured out how to fix this.  First I reviewed "Mac OS X: Why your Mac might not sleep of stay in sleep mode."  I noted the bullet:  "Do you have any other external USB or Firewire devices connected?"  I have an CP685AVR for a UPS for my Mac.  I replaced the battery a few months ago.  I also hooked up Apple's 'Energy Saver' power management software to the CP685AVR using the USB connection.  I disconnected it, and that solved the problem.  I still have the UPS and battery back-up; I just can't "monitor" the battery.  What's to monitor?  It always said the battery was 100% charged even right up to the time the previous battery failed.  Thanks for listening, uh... reading.

It's Pac-Man's 30th Birthday today, and Google's homepage is a playable Pac-Man game around the Google logo. My boyfriend had the same problem, then I went to Google and was like Hey, it's Pac-Man! And then the siren started. He plays fine on my laptop, but for some reason the music is stuck on his computer.
All you have to do is disable the "Cool Previews" add on for firefox. Go to the "Tools" link at the top of the browser, go down to "Add Ons", go to the "Cool Previews", click "Disable". Then restart firefox and it should be fine!

Just to elaborate further; if the Windows OS has been previously installed, go to the bootcamp assistant in OSX (found in applications/utilities). There you will have the option to burn a disk or  download the needed drivers to a USB flash drive. After getting the necessary files downloaded/burned proceed and start your Windows partition, run the installer from the disc. This should solve the problem.

  • Surround sound for iMac

I have Creative Inspire 4.1 4400 (http://static.clickbd.com/global/classified/item_img/895644_0_original.jpg), and I would like to get surround sound from speakers when I watch movies. I have done some research for some time, and I have no idea how to connect this to iMac.
The speaker system has green and black cables (3.5mm). For now, I only have green cable connected to iMac, and I somehow get sound from all 4 speakers + subwoofer. But it is not a true surround effect since the sounds from rear speakers are the same as front speakers.
This is what the speaker system looks like: http://img140.imageshack.us/img140/995/dsc02837n.jpg
So, what do I need to get to have surround sound on iMac?

Here is the video of the set-up: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HKA7nbdyAaQ&feature=youtu.be
Again, this is what my speaker is: http://static.clickbd.com/global/classified/item_img/895644_0_original.jpg
Here is the picture of the back of the subwoofer:http://img140.imageshack.us/img140/995/dsc02837n.jpg
The green cable is for front speakers while black cable is for rear speakers. It doesn't have a separate cable for subwoofer.
After doing some research, I've read that this speaker system is "not compatible with optical SPDIF sound cards." Is that related to the sound card I bought?

  • Amber alerts without the siren sound?

Is it possible to get Amber Alerts without that loud siren sound happening at inopportune times?
I have to keep my phone active 24/7, but there are times I must have the phone on silent, but I don't want Amber Alerts to wail.
In the interim I have those alerts switched off in government notifications to have it silenced.

Since I must have the phone active 24/7 for emergency calls, I hope not only switching the silence slide button, but lowering the volume to zero will be the only way to not have that siren be heard when it would be disruptive.

  • Siren sound...does it continue AFTER cpu is fried?

Hi,  The expert help of this forum is appreciated!!
A 4-year-old system using MSI 845 Ultra, Ver.1, has suddenly refused to boot.  Siren sound (high-low beeps in series, like a British cop car) ensues after fans start up, and continues...and continues...and continues.  It's actually my father-in-law's system, so I don't know for sure what preceded this condition.
I do know that when I arrived, I heard one case fan whirring overly loudly...it was a rear exhaust fan. Unknown how long this had been the condition.  But, the P-4 1.7 cpu's fan and front case fan work fine, as does the vid card fan (a Winfast G-force2, which shows good diagnostic lights all lit). All drives power on; power supply seems fine.
So still good general airflow, no cooking smells, no leaking motherboard items, all cards/connections seated well.  No outward changes or software changes to a locally-manufactured system that has run smoothly for 4 years of light use.
My reading here tells me the siren means cpu overheating.  The machine owner reports he heard the siren start and then he repeatedly cycled on and off to get the machine to boot, before giving up and calling me.
The first question for your help  --->  Would the siren continue if the cpu were already cooked??  The siren begins immediately even after machine not started for hours; it's not something that happens only after some period of use.  It goes off first time, everytime.
Any other ideas for diagnosis...or prognosis??  Does the ongoing siren mean the cpu is still suffering, or is it dead and ready for burial? Do you think that one bad exhaust fan could have caused the situation?  I mean, this guy doesn't overclock...he's email, internet and word processing all the way (though he does leave the system on all the time, allowing sleep mode to take care of the overnights).  On the other hand, am I way off?  Could this be something else besides an overheated, fried cpu?
Thanks very much for your help!

Thank you Maesus, Johnny and Heath...your help is very much appreciated. I am always, always amazed about how generous the PC-expert community is!  I am going to work today on that machine at the in-laws...will put your ideas to work.
If no-go, I will probably be back...and yes, I'll then put on full specs too.
In the meantime, thanks again, and I'm outta here to go silence that really, really alarming siren (how DO they get such an annoyingly loud sound to come out of such an ittybitty speaker?).
