Siri can't locate my contacts

When I ask Siri to locate a contact, she replies that the contact isn't available and request to search on line.
Additional information:
iPhone 4S with all updates (current software).  This problem existed before and after the recent update (completed on 2/
23/2014).
I believe she properly recognizes the name, as her printed request on my screen (what she offers to look up on the internet) exactly matches my contact entry.
I can open my Contacts and use voice recognition to successfully locate the same contact.
It appears to be isolated to Siri.
Thanks in advance for any light you may shed on this issue.

I just had that issue last night. I said call Clare and Siri said. I am not permitted to do that, Jesse.
Turned FaceTime back on and she called right after. Enable FaceTime?

I have a Marcus Jones in my contacts.  When i ask Siri to dial Marcus Jones, she says she can not find marcus jones and only presents marcus smith or allison jones.  I dont understand.

I also have this issue, when as for a contact, it showed me three contacts with the same last name, but not the one I was looking for...  I validated it was in my contacts.

  • I've set my home and work location in contacts but siri still doesn't pick up either?

I've set my home and work location in contacts but siri still doesn't pick up either?

Call mum and dad are in the contact of yourself.
You have to manually add it back or if you have contacts in your computer addressbook, you can sync them back.

  • Why Siri can't make a call to all of my contacts?

Why Siri can't make a call to all of my contacts? Whereas, all of my connection is already "On and Connected To The Internet". But Siri always said : Sorry Rendi, I can't call Rendi Saputra's home number (example). There is something wrong about my phone?

Alright so I am doing this off of my guess that you did not do anything to mod your iphone or siri with a 3rd party application, If so then that might be the cause.
Anyways,  are your contacts correct, is the phone number correct? Just double check. Secondly turn off everything that haas to do with location and connection to internet, turn off the following: wifi, anything with to do with your carriers service like 3g etc. Also try and turn off siri, you can do this by going into settings>general>siri>off. Now reboot your iphone, dont just slide to power down, but completely turn it off by holding the home button and the sleep/wake button until your iphone turns off. Then turn it back on. You may now turn on siri and whatever else you desire. Now that you have turned siri back on again, try it one more time.
Keep in mind Siri is in beta, and there will be some kinks and bugs to it, and is not gauranteed to work 100% of the time, like diesel vdub had said. Also it may just be a bug with siri, and maybe you should report it to apple. I will try and look up some more information for you too if i can.
But, if it is one of those thigns that you need to fix, and you are willing to do so, try and restore you iphone completely. This might help but nothign is for sure, but dont restore if you have valuable data that is not somewhere else like on your computer, or synced with icloud, before doing a restore. If you do chose to do a restore, make sure you do a backup first!! then just restore it completely.
Keep in mind that i am not 100% sure that what i have said will work, and i might be wrong. But i hope i helped. Im not saying that i dont have a clue as to what im talking about, but rather that i cant be sure until it happens.

under contacts, there's a field for "phonetic first/last name." Just spell it how it sounds and Siri will get it.
If you don't find the field, go into edit mode and choose "add field".

You are syncing contacts or trying to sync contacts how - direct with a supported address book app on your computer via the iTunes sync process, which is selected under the Info tab for the iPhone sync preferences with iTunes?

  • Can siri access your photos and contacts?

I was wondering if siri can access your photos and personal information
And any other info about siri please let me know

You should have been syncing your contacts with your computer from day one.  Your computer is where all of your inof should live.  The iphone simply allows it to be protable.  Have you failed to keep your contacts on your computer?
All pics taken with your iphone should be imported to your computer regularly as you would with any digital computer.  Have you failed to do this?

Photoshop CS5(64Bit): "You don't have permission to save to this location. Contact the administrator to obtain permission."  I am the administrator and give myself permission. What can I do to save the file? This is the user's PC, licensed PS CS5 software and Win 7 OS.

Temporarily save to another folder, until you figure it out.
Just because you are the owner and are the sole administrator, does not always guarantee that you have permission. There are several folders that you can not access no matter how hard you try. As for folders in your document folder, it is more likely a basic permission setting that took on permissions of a copied file. Some folders and files are set to a child/parent default setting, meaning the child folder/file (the one you are accessing) has the identical settings of its parent and when the parent changes, so does the child.
You can alter the parent or the child folder/file.
Right click on the folder/file select properties.
    Click on the security tab.
Click on each of the group names and see what permissions are set.
You can then edit a group if necessary.
If it will not allow it, you may need to use the advanced button to create a new copy of the group which should happen when you alter its settings (In other words, you don't have to physically create the copy, it does it for you when you OK the changes)
The administrator should have full access to the folder in the documents folder, if you are listed as an associate of the administrator group your name should also be listed there with full access. The System should also have full access.
All other groups should have reading access only if they exist.

Problem solved. Finder > Library > Preferences. There were three files: com.apple.something or another and address book.something.. (I can't remember).
Please realize that is only slightly more helpful than it started with a letter in the alphabet and ends in plist. Almost everything in that folder starts with com.apple. That is the default naming convention. It is a reverse domain name system (think reverse web address). So all Apple's preferences start with com.apple.
For anyone trying to fix a similar problem, please don't randomly delete plist files. While most will cause no harm and will get rebuilt automatically, deleting some will cause a little shock and awe. com.apple.mail.plist being the most shocking. If you delete it, you will not see your email in Mail until you recreate your accounts exactly as you had them before you deleted the plist. The email is still there, it is just that Mail doesn't know how to find them.

  • Siri can not find my location and all the other apps do not even

siri can not find my location and all the other apps do not even
    iPad 3 IOS 6.0.1

Do you have a wifi signal?  In order for the wifi only iPad to get any location fix, it needs to be connected to a wifi node - it's only way to determine locations is by looking up the wifi networks hardware address in Apple's wifi node location database of approximate locations (as mentioned already, it has no GPS chipset to use GPS location data).

  • Lost all my Address Book Contacts and now can't locate Backup

Strange, well today- now all my contacts dissappear for no reason...
only shows 3 newest one.... What happen to the other 200 names that I had.
I know I use Backup3 to my iDisk everyday, so I try to restore from a few days back and now it says "Can't Locate backup", gives me 3 choices to do "Locate",
"Skip this Part" or Stop Restore. Nothing works for me.
I even change the AddressBook.data.beforesave to AddressBook.data, now it shows most of the contacts, but still lost about 20 names...

  • Get Siri to set location reminders (using multiple reminder lists)

I found a way to get Siri to set location reminders using multiple reminder lists (but you can just use one list too):
First make additional lists in the reminder app: click list button (the lines on the left) > edit > create new list > done. Make as many as you want. I have grocery, home, personal, business, family.
Let's say you want a reminder to pick up apples when you get to the apple store. You must add the location in your contacts to your name in contacts.
    Do the following:
In maps app find the location with search.
Tap the blue arrow > Add to contacts > Add to existing contact
Choose your name in contacts. It will be added under your address for home or work so you will need to edit it:
    Click Edit.
Click on the small label on the left of the new address - it will just say "address"
Scroll to bottom of page and click on Create custom label
Enter the location name like "Apple Store". Click Done.
Important Note: You will need to delete the url it adds under your home url section and maybe other things it messes up with the new contact info instead of yours - so check all the fields each time you do this.
To make a location based reminder using a specific list you must open that list yourself - Siri will not open it for you.
    Example:
Open grocery list yourself in the reminders app
Tell Siri something like: "remind me to pick up apples" (Do not mention the location yet - if you do it will not work)
Siri will ask: "When should I remind you?"
Say: "When I get to the apple store"
Siri will say she will remind you and you will see the location reminder in the grocery list.
This is how it works for me but if you know an easier way let me know! This is beta so I'm sure it will get easier.

I have one thing to add.  You don't have to open the list manually.  Tell Siri:  "Add to my <listname> list".  For example, if you have a list named "Work", tell Siri:  "Add to my work list".  Siri will reply, "What should I add to your 'Personal' list?
and you can continue from there.
There is a syntax for doing all this in one sentence, but I find it only works about half the time. Too many fields for Siri to parse in her current Beta stage

  • Siri Gym/School Location Fail

I believe there is a little goof in the Siri design for locations. You are able to get directions and set reminders to locations associated with your contact on iCloud, so you can add your Home and Work address (correctly labeled) and you're good to go. You can also add other locations separate from your account such as Supermarket or Bank and Siri will recognize those contacts.
HOWEVER, the problem is that like Home and Work two other categories are given special privilege: Gym and School. So even though there is a string for Siri to recognize "Siri, can I get directions to the gym?" Even if you have a custom labeled address in your contacts listed as "Gym" or "gym" - Siri isn't able to make that connection.
So again to simplify: Home, Work, School and Gym are supposed to be easily setable addresses in your own iCloud contact for Siri to recognize. However it locks up on "Gym" and "School" for some reason.
This just seems like a goof on Apple's side - someone in programming Siri forgot to cross their t's and dot their i's. But there is a work around, you can add these locations but when you talk to Siri you have to put the emphasis on "my" as in: "Siri, can i get directions to my gym." It should be able to find the contact, but if you say "the gym" or "gym" it will say you have no yet set your gym address yet - even if you have.

I agree it takes awhile, I noticed that as well. But even after waiting, I (I say I), couldn't get Siri to work for the Company field. Thanks for noting!
Yes, but if Siri offered me the list of grocery stores to select from (In the same way it presents list if it can't pick an item with certainty) I'd be happy with that rather than having to make contacts manually (by using maps ironicallly) for all the places I most want to have location based reminders for. Like "When I arrive at Costco (Sams Club, BJs) remind me to pickup beef jerky".
