Siri can't understand "Yes"

when i tell Siri, "set up a photo shoot with Diana for 1:00 on saturday" it gets everything right.  the appointment is set to the right time and everything else looks good.  then Siri asks something like, "should i add this appointment to your calendar?" and i say, "Yes", Siri reliably interprets Yes as Yet, tells me it doesn't understand, and gives me a list of things i can change about the appointment.  however, if i say, "confirm" the appointment is added to my calendar without problem.
i would have expected "yes" to be a valid answer to confirmation question.  it seems more natural language to me.  does anyone else have this problem?

Yes. When I say just "yes", it always comes back with "Sorry, I don't understand what you said". But If I say "yes, please", it says "OK, I'll add that reminder". Very odd. But it understands the word "yes". Maybe it just likes the magic word?
When it doesn't understand my confirmation, it seems to lose the original item that it asked for confirmation about. This is very troubling. Then I have to start all over again.

  • IPhone 4s blue tooth siri can't understand me.

The blue tooth is seriously the only thing making me want to go back to Blackberry.   Siri does not understand me while using blue tooth and a lot of the calls I get on my phone while in my vehicle will revert back to the phone settings and I will lose blue tooth al together.   Do you think this is something that Apple will fix or am I going to be only half happy with this phone?

There does appear to be a know issue with Ford vehicles. If yours is a Ford it is likely that your will need a software upgrade to your bluetooth in your vehicle. Ford dealers can do this for you.
    Hope this helps.

  • Siri can't understand plain English, or Latin, or Italian...

I have an iTunes library that is mostly the material from years of collecting CDs. It's not huge, but it's not small, about 600 or 700 CDs, around 225GB (close to 17,000 "songs"). I've recoded all the Apple Lossless formatted stuff to be AAC. That takes up about 49GB on my iPhone 5's iTunes.
Most of the music is classical. I've spent a lot of time making all the listings standard, including the composer, key, opus, number of the piece if appropriate, time period, and file type (Apple Lossless and AAC).
How can I teach siri to understand my selection?
For example, I'll say "Play the first Gloria of Beethoven's Missa Solemnis." Sadly (and oddly humorously) it says "I couldn't find 'the first gloria of Beethoven's Mrs. alumnus' in your music." [head slap] So I tried it again, enunciating as clearly as I could. Siri: Sorry, I couldn't find 'the first to gloria of Beethoven's Messe so Leninists' in your music." (Doh!)
Or simpler: I'll say "play Mahler Symphony Number 3" and I'll get "Sorry, I couldn't find 'Moeller Symphony number three' in your music."
Another, making it very simple: "Play Beethoven's Cello Sonata in A." It says "I couldn't find 'Beethoven cello Sonata in a' in your music." Yet, here's the listing exactly as it appears in iTunes under Beethove (composer): "Cello Sonata in A, Op 69: 4. Allegro vivace."
One final screw-up on siri's part: I say "Play Rachmaninoff Prelude in c-sharp minor." Siri comes back with "Now playing album 'Symphony no 5 in C sharp minor." What it doesn't indicate is that it's "Mahler's Symphony no 5 in C sharp minor." Rachmaninoff never wrote a symphony no 5 in C sharp minor.
Very frustrating. And I haven't even gotten to the issue of which performance of the same piece I want to play. I probably have 4 or 5 versions of each of the Mahler, Beethoven, and Brahms symphonies. Or, the two different recordings that Gould made of the Bach Goldberg variations.
So, how do I get siri to learn about my music collection and find the piece I'm looking for? It seems like siri should be able to be taught. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Native language is English. When I've used the online database to retrieve names of works, composer's names, etc., it was incosistent. For example, one Brahms's symphony would be entered as: "Symphony No 3 in F, Op 90: 1. Allegro con brio," while another would be "Sym. in D number 2, first movement."
This made it impossible to locate things in my music collection, especially when I might have 4 or 5 different recordings of the same piece done with different orchestras and conductors. Clearly, the naming conventions must be the same to locate anything in a relatively moderate sized database like mine. This is why I went through each recording and made the fields consistent.
Siri virtually never gets it correct. I'd like to be able to teach it how to find the piece I want to hear.

  • Siri can't understand "Rate this song 5 stars"

My goal is to rate all of my music.
So I have a playlist of all 'unrated' songs, that I typically play to/from work in the car during the home-work-home commute.
So I'd like to be able to instruct Siri to rate the current sing playing by just saying 'rate this song 4 stars' or something like that.
That would be the least distracting to my driving and allow me to use the commute to rate my songs.
    Other commands could be :
    -Add to playlist <playlist name>
    -Remove from this playlist
-Copy (or move) to playlist <playlist name>
I thought that this would have been one of the most useful Siri command sets for the music playing while driving/moving context.

I this is very strange indeed.in my case it's exactly the opposite that is happening.Siri has no problem understanding me on my iPhone 5 but all of a sudden starting two days ago, Siri Eye in my Honda Civic doesn't understand me or parts of what I'm saying only....

  • Dutch Siri doesn't understand am/pm

Since iOS 8.3 Siri also supports dutch (sadly only with a male voice )
Today I asked Siri where my 9 o'clock meeting was. In dutch "Siri, waar is de vergadering van negen uur" ("Siri, where is the 9 o'clock meeting"). Siri responded with "No meetings at 21:00"
My question was indeed ambiguous, as I didn't specify AM or PM. However, this is not customary in Dutch speech to do so. It is funny that Siri somehow did understand that 9 o'clock could mean 9 p.m. or 21:00 in european notation, but it should also be smart enough to understand that I might have meant 9 a.m.
When I asked this, it may have been 9:01 a.m. already. Perhaps Siri assumes that you will only ask it about future meetings? Because I observed already with the US-english Siri that when I ask about "the meeting", she will always show me the next meeting, not the meeting I would currently be in according to my agenda. In my company arriving a couple of minutes late for a meeting is all to usual, so mostly when I need to ask Siri about meetings, I am interested in the meeting that has already started according to the agenda.
Is there some way to teach Siri such personal preferences?

Yea man, I was quite hopeful and purchased the 4S only because of Siri but as of now It seems only a marketing glamour.
Do you think It would learn our accent ? Or is this note the ultimate reality:
Can I use Siri in any of these languages in other countries?
Yes. Siri can be enabled in any country, and you can choose to speak to it in English, French, or German. However, Siri is designed to recognize the specific accents and dialects of the supported countries listed above. Since every language has its own accents and dialects, the accuracy rate will be higher for native speakers

It doesnt understand my accent. I have to speak very carefully even than It understands me rarely.
Like If i say ''Remind me to print CTC engagement letters tomorrow'' It will come up with something like  ''Remind me to ProFine CBC engagement tomorrow'' , most of the times its much far away from that.
I speak english fluently and is always understood easily even by native english speakers..
I understand that over time Siri will learn my accent and understand me better, how would that be possible? If at all thats true... ?
    Please help!

  • Siri doesn't understand stars in music and playlists

I love the idea of using Siri to control music playlist, but she doesn't seem to understand stars.  For example, I have a smart playlist called "★★★★", and when I ask her to "play playlist 'four stars'" she instead tries to play a song or album with "star" or "4" in the name.  I tried to get her to list my playlists, to see what she thinks it's called, but she doesn't know how to do that.  I also tried telling her "play songs with 4 star rating" and she didn't understand that either.  I don't want to have to rename my playlist to be "four stars".  Is there any other way to get her to understand what I want?

  • Siri doesn't understand when using headset

My wife and I are both experiencing this problem with Siri on iPhone 5.  Siri doesn't understand us when using any external headphones.  She's experiencing this with a wireless Jawbone and I'm using a wired Sennheiser/Adidas.  If we turn Siri off, Voice Control works just fine on both devices, and Siri works fine if using the phone by itself, so it's obviously not some sort of accent/mumbling problem or fundamental headset issue.
Asking Siri for playlist "Peak Mix" through the headphones gets me "You don't have a playlist:" "Keith Nix", "Peter Max", "Cake Mix", ...   Oddly, saying exactly this through the headphones to plain ol' Voice Control (Siri disabled) works JUST FINE.  Also, disconnecting the headphones and using Siri with the iPhone's mic also works JUST FINE
This also appears to have changed recently, within the last month or so (May 2013).  I don't recall having these issues a few months ago.  6.1.4 issue?  I've tried the "usual" fixes, disable/re-enable Siri, restart the iPhone, etc.

Siri doesn't understand 'home' if your address is not listed correctly in contacts. It can be the label for the address field is wrong or that your own address is not listed at all. Using iCloud's to store your Personal data instead of for example Google might also help. iCloud has special fields for storing information that Google using exchange sync does not provide, eg fields for storing your mothers and fathers name. Siri can learn a few things while speaking to it but it doesn't understand everything right off the bat. If you ask Siri 'call my girlfriend' but doesn't know it Siri might ask you who she is in your contact list. That doesn't work for everything though.

  • Siri doesn't understand "remind me when I arrive at work" - help

    Hi everyone,
For a while, I have been trying to ask Siri to remind of things when I arrive at work.  It works fine to remind me when I get home but she doesn's seem to understand "work".
    I have tried:
    "when I arrive at work"
"when I arrive at the office"
After that, she just repeats the question. when would you want me to remind you? home,...., WORK!,.....  I mention work again and it just doesn't work.
I do have an address with the tag Work in my contact card.
I waited for iOS6 hoping it was some bug but it still does the same.
    Any help here?
Does it work for you? What do you say?
    Thanks
    Nuno

  • TS4079 Siri doesn't understand me

I am a Londoner and Siri doesn't understand me! Why is that.. I talk full English but he don't type what I ask... What am I doin wrong?

It appears that Siri is an Internet-server-based service.  I personally was not aware of that until now.  Voice-to-text in Mail started failing, and then I tried plain old Siri, and it said that it couldn't connect to the network.
Sounds like Apple needs to add a few more servers!
Anyway, it knows your name by looking at your address-book entry.  I noticed that it would occasionally say things like, "sorry me, I can't do that."  I had created a nickname for myself, many years ago, of "me" so that I could quickly add myself to the CC list of an Email message.  When I removed that nickname it started using my real name instead.

  • TS4079 I don't understand 'yes.'

    Hi,
I have had an issue with Siri since upgrading my iPhone 4S to the newest iOS.  The problem is produced when I:
    1. Dictate a text message.  E.g. "Tell Bob I am on my way."
    2. Siri presents the message to me and says: "Are you ready to send it?"
3a.  If I click "Send," Siri says "I don't understand 'yes.'  Would you like me to search the web?"
3b.  If I click "Cancel," Siri says "I don't know what that means."
Has anyone else experienced this?  I tried searching the web, but as you might imagine, the search makes it kind of impossible to get any useful results.

I have this problem, too on my iPhone. I wonder if it happens when I try and click "Yes" too soon.

  • Siri doesn't understand my question although it's one of the examples from the help section

I have a problem with the German Siri. If I ask her: "add bananas to my groceries list" in German "Fuege Bananen zu meiner Einkaufsliste hinzu") she says that she doesn't understand me, although this command is stated exactly like this in Siris help sect.

    Hello there, NE2SYN.
The following Knowledge Base article offers some good tips for troubleshooting your issue:
    iOS: Troubleshooting Siri
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4079
    Particularly:
Ensure that Siri can clearly hear you
If Siri is unable to clearly understand what you are saying, make sure your microphones are not blocked.
    iPhone 4s
Verify that the bottom microphone, located to the left of the dock connector, is not blocked.
    iPhone 5
Verify that both the mic in the receiver opening and the mic near the rear camera are not blocked.
    iPod touch (5th generation)
Verify that the mic near the rear camera is not blocked.
    iPad (3rd generation)
Verify that the mic at the top center, above the FaceTime camera, is not blocked.
    All models
If you are using a protective case, try removing it.
Try turning your device off and then on again.
Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,
    Pedro.

  • I have a question: Is going to be a Software Upgrade for Siri to start understanding Spanish or is goint to be a new iphone??

Well I was wondering that. Because I want to buy the iPhone 4S and Siri only understands English. Maybe if there is an update of the Siri software to understand Spanish I can buy it now and wait for the update. But if not I have to wait for the new iPhone.

No problem! The important thing is that your answer is resolved, not that I get the points. Just to let you know, you may have to wait a while before Siri is supported with Spanish. It could be a few weeks, but more likely it will be a few months or even a year. So don't buy it and expect them to update it very soon. It may be a software update or it may just be a server update and it will just appear on your phone. It isn't even clear that it will be supported in Spansih at all yet. Remember, siri is still in beta and it is unclear what Apple's plans are for other languages. So just keep this in mind when you are buying.

  • I can't understand apple teminology - what is the difference between a keychain and a password - why does my mac keep asking me to type in the keychain - I don't know what it is or when it was created!!!

I can;t understand the apple terminology - what is a keychain and how is it different to password?  When I set a new password it keeps asking me for the login keychain.  None of my passwords work for it and I don't know when it would have been created.

A "keychain" is a secure database in which passwords are stored in an encrypted format to prevent unauthorized discovery of your passwords. Think of it like a bank safe deposit box in which you can safely store your passwords.
If you have a problem with your keychain then perhaps you have not changed the passwords correctly or need to repair your keychain. You might try:
Assuming that you are using a recent build of OS X, go to /Applications/Utilities and launch the app called Keychain Access. Go to the Window pulldown menu and select "Keychain First Aid". Enter your password, set the radio button to "Repair", and click "Start".

  • Iphone 5s - siri can not hear me

I Have troubles with Siri and the keyboard microphone. Siri can not hear me and it is not possible to dictate any text via the keyboard. Both functions are working fine when I use a external headphone with microphone. The voice memo app is working correctly, so I don't think it is a hardware problem. I checked all siri settings and they seem okay. Voice feedback is not on handsfree but on always. Does anybody know how to fix this problem? I have the feeling the iPhone isfor these functions expecting audio input from annexternal source in stead of the build in microphones. Does anybody have an idea to solve this problem?

Well, that's a new comman issue comes up with IOS 8.3 version. Before 8.3 IOS version Siri were only available in some languages, however, after 8.3 release many languages are supported.
Even if you enable Siri > General > Settings.. still respond your voice.
No need to try to troubleshooting device - it will not solve your problem. You have to restore your iPhone and then setup as a new device. That's solution.
May I ask you to tell me if you siri in English ?
