Siri cannot identify songs playing on the iPhone

Prior to installing iOS 8 on  my iPhone 4s, I could ask Siri to identify the song that was playing at the moment, ON MY iPhone. This is important because I have an extensive music library, that is constantly growing. When I am driving or walking the dog, I cannot pull out my iPhone and look at the screen to identify the song.
I used to be able to ask Siri "What song is this?", and she would tell me the name of the song and the artist. Now, she either says, "I can't identify music when you are using bluetooth." or "Listening..." and of course, she can't hear anything since she as stopped the music.
I have the Shazam app installed, and it is ok, but I need the functionality of asking Siri what is currently playing on the iPhone itself.
Is there some setting I need to change, remove Shazam (which I do like), or something else?
Can you all fix Siri so that if I am playing music with my iPhone, Siri will know that and get the currently playing song from the player, instead of trying to Shazam it?

I have several users in an exchange environment who cannot email a photo from the iPhone.  When the click on Email Photo, they are prompted to configure a mail account even though there is already an exchange account in place.  How do I remediate this?  Not all of the users in our environment have this issue.  If the users having this issue, install a secondary email account, Gmail, Hotmail, etc, then they can send through those accounts.  Why would the exchange account not be seen to send photos?

Sounds like it worked until the policies associated with the account that are creating the problem were fully pushed down.
Try setting up a new (test) Exhange account and see if it behaves the same way on the phone (after removing the problem account from the phone, of course).

Going back to your original post:
    5) Tried running Itunes in 'safe mode', running itunes as an administrator..nothing.
Was that iTunes' safe mode as opposed to Windows' safe mode? iTunes safe mode is invoked by holding down CTRL+SHIFT immediately after clicking the icon to launch iTunes and continuing to hold until this message pops up:
Click continue, then close iTunes and reopen. With luck iTunes now opens normally every time.

do purchased karaoke songs play with the words to sing by

    No.
I've never bought any but I'm sure I would have found/heard of such a feature if it existed. iTunes has limited support for including lyrics as text via Get Info., but does not support synchronized lyrics, let alone the full syllable-by-syllable highlighting that can be achieved.

Why do only some QuickTime movies play on the iPhone?
I have noticed that only some QuickTime movies play on the iPhone, does anyone know why?
    Thanks,

Depends on how the movies are encoded for Quicktime (i.e. which compression/codec). The iPhone supports only H.264 video.

Turn on iTunes Sound Check, which you can do by going to Edit > Preferences > Playback and checking the box.
Let us know if that does the trick.  If by any chance it does not, use the 3rd party program iVolume.

  • Just last night when I was trying to listen to some of my songs they wouldn't play on the iphone or itunes on my computer. What can I do?

I've purchased some songs from the itune store a while back and they played fine on my iphone and my computer. Just last night I tried listening to a playlist I created and some of the songs wouldn't play. They wouldn't work in itunes on the computer or the iphone. I tried deleting the songs from my phone and re-syncing them and it didn't work. I've not tried resetting the phone completely. Not sure what I should do now. Those songs cost a bit a money and I've tried already to access the cloud to see if they were there. What should I do??

Try the troubleshooting help here.  http://www.apple.com/support/iphone/assistant/phone/
You may need to restore your iPhone.
If it won't restore, try here. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1808
If nothing helps, you need to contact Verizon for information for an exchange or refund. This is a user to user forum, not Apple.
Apple's policy for a refund or exchange is within 14 days of purchase. Verizon's policy may be different.
Definitely try restoring .. hopefully you won't have to go through the hassle of an exchange.

  • I have a number of playlists configured to play songs I haven't heard in a while. They then drop off the playlist once they've played. When I use my iPhone, however, the songs stay on the iPhone version of the playlist. Why aren't they syncing properly?

I don't like Apple's algorithm that constantly pushes the same songs at me, so I have a couple of playlists configured for songs I haven't listened to in a month, two months, etc. This has worked fine for years. Since I've gotten my iPhone 4S, however, things are goofy.  The songs are marked as played and fall off of the playlist on iTunes, but they stay on the playlist on the iPhone, which means they come up again and again in the shuffle of that playlist. Even if I sync the iPhone the songs are still on the version of the playlist on the phone and I can't figure out a way to "refresh" that playlist and get rid of them. I know this is my own particular quirk about my music, but it's worked with every other iPod I've had. I don't know why the iPhone is holding on to a different version of the playlist than the one on iTunes. Is there a setting I'm missing somewhere?
My iTunes is on a MacBook running Snow Leopard.

    Lynn,
I had a very similar issue (same playlist).  After several frustrating hours of various combinations I was able to sync by changing the options to "manuall sync.." and then "dragging and dropping" the needed playlist from the iTunes Playlist list to the iPhone button (on my itunes setup/view that was from the far left column list of all of my  playlist in iTunes to the far upper right "iPhone" button).  To sum up "checking" the playlist and syncing didnt work, "drag and droping" the playlist did... at least for now... then I unselected the "manually manage" in the options and re-synced and all playlist were synced correctly.  Good Luck.

  • When playing music on my iPhone 4 using earphones when out for a run, I select shuffle and only 3 or 4 songs play then the music stops as if I have set only 3 songs to play. How do I correct this??

When I am out for a run using earphone and a running APP I set my iphone 4 to shuffle songs but suddenly only 3-4 or 5-6 songs play and then they stop as if I set something to only play a certain number of songs from my playlist, its really irritating as I have to stop and press shuffle again, it happens with all my playlists and never mid song. This is a sudden issue as before I would just select shuffle and run and the music kept playing until I stopped it. Have I set something in error?? have looked at settings in General and in music and I am not sure what to do? any ideas??

Just realised this happens without earphones and without using the running app. My iphone will only play 2 songs when I select shuffle in any playlist, driving me mad!

  • Siri not identifying songs correctly in iOS 8.3

Siri no longer identifies the song I am listening to that is playing FROM my iPhone.  It listens to hear a song that it can potentially identify (with Shazam) being played out loud in the surrounding environment, hears none, then tells me it can't recognize the song.

SOLUTION! SOLUTION! SOLUTION! AS YOU CAN SEE FROM MY LAST POST I WAS EXPERIANCING THE SAME ISSUE OF NOT RECEIVING NOTIFICATIONS ON SKYPE WHEN SOMEONE WAS CALLING IN. TESTED: OK.   SOLUTION:1. CHECK TO SEE IF ALL NOTIFICATIONS ARE SET ON "ON".2. DONT "KILL" THE APP, LEAVE IT RUNNING IN THE BACKGROUND.3. NO MATTER WHAT YOU DO, WONT WORK IF YOU KILL THE APP.4. TRY TO MAKE A CALL FROM DIFFERENT ACCOUNT.5. SURELY YOU'LL RECIEVE "BANNER" OR "NOTIFICATION" IN CENTRE DEPENDING UPON WHAT YOU HAVE CHOSEN.6. THIS EVEN WORKS WHEN THE PHONE IS LOCKED.7. GOOD LUCK. 8. (SARCASTIC) THANKS FOR ALL THE SUPPORT FROM OTHER MEMBERS, WOULDNT HAVE BEEN ABLE TO DO THIS WITHOUT YOUR PEOPLE "ZERO" INPUT.  8. CHEERS.

  • Songs playing silence on iPhone 4 despite full restore and playing fine in iTunes

I'm playing songs that play perfectly fine in iTunes, so the files are not corrupt. Some files were iTunes purchases (so cannot be converted), others imported from cds. These songs play fine at the start but then around halfway just play silence, while the counter keeps moving. If I move the counter back a bit it'll play the song to the exact point it silences. So it's how the file appears on its system. Deleting and reloading the file doesn't solve it.
This is with an iPhone 4 (not the 4S) and running software 6.1.3 with iTunes version 11.0.4.4.
I have attempted a full restore from a backup, and then reloaded all of my music, same songs, same problem. I don't feel a manual restore would help because that means reprogramming every single app, and the music would be reloaded the same way so what difference could that make?
Just to add insult to injury my protection plan ran out about 2 weeks ago and my phone otherwise works fine, so this can't possibly be worth purchasing another pricey plan just to be allowed to TALK to Apple.
Any advice that isn't repeating the above tried steps would be very appreciated!

MP3 is a lossy compression - the more you do it the more your music tracks will degrade. Re-encoding the songs which have already been encoded will gradually reduce the quality (much the same as photocopying a photocopy). If you really need to re-encode something it's best to take it from the source, i.e. rip from CD again.
Obviously this would be a bit time consuming for all your tracks, but I think if you really had to do this with your entire music collection every time iTunes is upgraded there must be something seriously wrong with iTunes.
If you have track problems there's probably something in your computer software which is conflicting with the processes going on in iTunes. In my case it appears to be my antivirus. Do a bit of detective work and try switching a few things off to narrow it down, but you shouldn't have to go through a laborious process of re-encoding which will eventually degrade the quality of your music.
