even if the location services for siri is on, sire can not do based-location reminders
Siri could use location reminders before the ios 6 update, i used to use them all the time based on an address in my contacts, now no longer works, is this a result of the disaster that is the maps app?

You did not mention how you have Windows installed on your computer, however lets get tot he point. There are 2 major methods, using Boot Camp or virtualizaiton software such as Parallels or Fusion. Either way, you should post in those forums. If you use Boot Camp then post in the Boot Camp forum, if you use Virtualization app then navigate to their forums and post your question there.

HT1975 Dropbox does not recognize location service
I have switched on location services and i do allow dropbox to use location (in the settings app) but the dropbox app continues to refuse photo upload and requests to allow location services in the settings app. What can i do? Thanks for help!

I am having a problem with my iPad Mini Retina NOT using location services in my local weather app. I have 2 iPads, the mini and an iPad 4 and the 4 uses location services just fine. I have checked all the settings and they are exactly the same on both iPads plus I have reset the mini and deleted the weather app and reinstalled. I did update to IOS 8 hoping somehow that would fix it but did not. IOS 8 however did not cause the issue (nor any others so far).
On the mini I do get the closest large city that I had already set as an alternate location on both. Both the primary and alternate are listed on this mini but the mini picks up the alternate instead of the location selected as the primary. I get an error message that says GPS error. For location the iPod uses the location of nearby wifi routers that are in Apple's database. You do not have to be connected to the network/router to use that router's location. Thus, it appears that the iPod can't see a nearby router that is in Apple's database. or finds one that has it location as China. Apple continuously updated their database based on info they obtain from iPhones. However, I do not know if that applies to India. No one has been able to find a way to inform Apple of a router or correct is location.

Steps to replicate:
1. Go to http://maps.google.com using Safari
2. Choose "allow" to use location services
3. Close Safari and wait 1-2 minutes such that the arrow sign (in the top right) disappears
4. Go to http://www.nature.com/news/economics-and-genetics-meet-in-uneasy-union-1.11565 using Safari
5. The arrow sign (in the top right) appears showing that the location services are used when viewing http://www.nature.com/news/economics-and-genetics-meet-in-uneasy-union-1.11565 (even few hours later)

The Nature journal (site: ww.nature.com) is not affiliated with Google in any way as far as I know!I figured out how to stop this from happening. I did 3 things, and I'm not exactly sure which one of them did it because I did them all at the same time.
1. Turned on Private Browsing
2. Cleared Cookies and Data
3. Turned off JavaScript
This stopped time.com from using my location without permission.
I then turned off Private Browsing and went back to the same page, and it continued to NOT use my location.
I'm thinking JavaScript being turned off might be the solution. However, there is a bug that causes JavaScript to turn on again without permission at times:

I do not know if it is supposed to be like this but i just noticed it this morning the location services icon in the upper right is always on. I went to settings to see what was using it and it was Siri. Is this supposed to be like this? Thanks.

i Just found a similar question below and it resolved my issue. Turn off the sync to exchange email and all works fine now.Couldn't agree more. I've been *trying* to use location reminders ever since buying my iPhone 4S but as yet, out of many, many attempts they've only actually worked once.
The kid problem is very simple, the way the phone needs the location to be an address in your address book, and it's subsequent inability to correctly locate the address. My home address is a correct postal address, and has been unchanged for 40+ years, yet clicking on my address from my own contact entry puts my location some distance down my street.
Whilst I understand the issue with the address lookup, it seems to be a massive problem with the location based reminders as it's just not possible to set useful reminders.
What if I want to remind myself of something when I arrive at the car park on a shopping trip? There is no address for that in my contacts, I just want to pinpoint the location on the maps and say 'remind me when I get there'. Surely that's the simplest my far. Same with address book contacts, if you had a field with the gps position in then one could tag the locations and know they were 100% accurate for location services.
Such a shame as it's one of the key reasons I upgraded my phone and as it stands it just plain doesn't work. -

IPhone 6 Motion Calibration Always Using Location Services

just received my iphone6 and is updated to ios8.
IVe noticed that the location services was constantly on so went through each item which was enabled for location sharing and disabled one by one. I discovered that under Privacy > Location Services > System Services > Motion calibration was purple. As soon as I disabled it location sharing icon switched off. As soon as i enabled it it came back on again and the purple icon showed up next to motion calibration meaning it was in use.
So my question....what is motion calibration and why is it constantly using location services??
thanksyes i have the same question, new iphone 6, restored from icloud back-up from my iphone 5, and motion calibration is using location services very frequently. it doesn't appear to be draining my battery to badly, but id just like to know exactly what its doing so i can know whether or not i want to keep it on. turning it off until i know exactly whats its doing.

How do I add an app so that it can use Location Services under Mountain Lion?
Ever since I upgraded to Mountain Lion, my VPN is no longer able to determine my location so that it can connect to the nearest gateway. I have Location Services enabled but my VPN is not listed as an app that is allowed to use it nor can I figure out a way to add it and at no time does it ever ask to use it. So how exactly do I add an app so that it will use Location Services?

Whereas /etc/default/passwd on the ldap client says passwords must be 8 characters. This is seen with the pam_authtok_check: minimum length from /etc/default/passwd: 8
. It is clearly not using the policy from the directory server but checking locally. So I can login ok using the ldap server for authentication but when I try to change the password it does not use the policy from the server which says I only need a minimum lenght of 6 characters.
I have read that pam_ldap is only supported for directory server 5.2. Because I am running ds6 and with password compatability in ds6 mode maybe this is my problem. Does anyone know of any updated pam_ldap modules for solaris 9?

Mail does not use correct outgoing server
Problem
Mail in Mavericks (and also IOS6 snf 7) does not use the outgoing smtp server associated with the account being used. This results in either a failure to send or mail being put into the wrong "Sent" folder.
Background
I have most of my non-icloud mail pulled down to a home server from which my laptops and ios devices access various accounts using imap. The local home server also provides smtp and relays all mail to my ISP. Recently I have been switching from an old home server (Mac Mini) to a new one (Raspberry pi running the debian Raspbian version with fetchmail, Dovecot and postfix setup).
While making the changeover I had access to both the old server and the new server enabled on my laptop. Naturally the majority of the settings (Name, email address etc) were the same although the name and address of the server to be used for both incoming and outgoing mail were different. This seemed tp work fine for incoming. However when I tested outgoing mail the copy that should appear in the "sentt" box went missing. This usually indicates some mistake in the setting of the sent mail folder on the accounts but this all checked out.
I eventually found the missing outgoing mail intended to go through the new server in the sent box on the old server. Further trials showed that no matter what I did the outgoing would always default to the old (and therefore first set up) outgoing server.
Deleting the old account and the old outgoing server of course should cure the problem and will eventually be the solution for me when I kill the old server. But i wanted to get to the bottom of the problem in case it reappeared in other contexts. Checking the "use only this server" box produced failure to send rather than the correct result.
Trialing various alterntaive settings showed that the problem occurs when there are two outgoing servers with the email address in the settings and the user name on the outgoing server name being the same. I had assumed that changing the description field would distinguish between the various settings; however this did not work. Changing the Name Field did work eg by putting (O) after my name.
It appears therefore that mail selects the outgoing server on the basis of email address (with the full name included) and user name (trrespective of the actual server or the Description that shows in the smtp server listing. In some ways this is logical but it produces problems in the context I have described and would also be a difficulty if you wanted to use an alternative server when in a different location.
I have trawled support and elsewhere for any thing similar. Lots of mail problems (don't get me started on the way icloud loses outgoing each time you edit the list!) but I have not found any posts on precisiely this point.
IOS devices seem to have similar problems, but a quick attempt at a similar solution does not work, and I cannot be bothered to test the options. I will simply clean them out and put in the new accounts.
Advice
Grateful for any comments or advice from people who have encountered similar problems and whether my diagnosis if correct. Have I missed any obvious corrections that would clear this up. I do not know whether this is a Mavericks issue or also appears in earlier OSX versions.

Where ever the Sent and Trash folders show in the Sidebar, highlight first one, and then the other, followed by clicking on Mailbox in the Menubar, and choosing Use This Mailbox For, and choose the function.
