Siri doesn't make voice dialed calls

I'm wondering if others are having the same issue I am with Siri. When I ask Siri to "call parents" or "phone parents", Siri comes back with "do you want me to call your parents your father?" I've tired it over and over again and Siri comes back with the same message "do you want me to call your parents your father?" It will work fine for days at a time then I get the above message for days. I've tired changing the contact name to "Mom&Dad" and I'll get "do you want me to call your Mom & Dad your father?" I've tried saying "dial parents home" or "phone parents", "telephone parents" and Siri comes back with the same message. It drives me crazy. Anyone else having this issue sometimes?

It is possible that the servers are down. There are numerous threads discussing this at the moment.

My phone doesn't make and receive calls. It doesn't have coverage where other iPhones with the same network do. Please, let me know how way I sort this problem out?

My wife is having the exact same issue after updating to the new iOS 8.1.1 and we've tried all the same steps even restoring the phone as a new phone. We've contacted our service provider and they've told us to go to apple to potentially "remove" her serial number from their servers to allow it to work properly on the service we have. We are desperate as purchasing a new phone right now is not an option and she desperately needs her phone for work and life.

  • IPhone 4S Siri Will No Longer Voice Dial Contacts - Always Call Failed

I am not exactly sure when this started (5.0.1?), but when I ask Siri to dial someone in my contacts, Siri recognizes the request, proceeds to Dial the number and no matter which contact I try, I get an immediate "CALL FAILED" and then the iPhone immediately locks. I have restored the iPhone as new, Reset Network Settings, etc. to no avail. If I turn Siri off from Settings, the phone will revert to the previous Voice Control that was present in previous iPhones and Voice Calls are successful. Only when trying to use Siri do all voice initiated calls fail. And it is 100% consistent in the failure. This does not appear to be a Siri network issue, as all Siri other Siri requests work and are speedy. Co-workers with the 4S are also experiencing the same issue, so it does not appear to be specific to just my iPhone. Can anyone else confirm? Thanks.

OK, so i have tracked it down to a single AT&T Cell Tower location in my instance, but it also just so happens to be at my office, which means I am affected by it all day. What is happening is that at this particular location, the AT&T tower is misconfigured or experiencing some type of technical issue, resulting in the inability of the cell tower to handle simultaneous voice and data. Siri uses data to match the contacts, names etc and hands off to the Phone dialer, which immediately experiences a call failure as a result of the 3G Data still being in use by Siri. You can verify simultaneous voice and data connectivity by placing a voice call and then attempting to use 3G data (you must not be using WiFi to determine if this is a problem with the Cell network). While in a voice call, launch the Speedtest.net Mobile Speed Test app. You will clearly see that 3G data services have all but ceased if this is your problem. End the Voice Call and run the Speedtest.net Mobile Speed Test again and 3G data will work fine.
I have reported the problem via AT&T's Mark the Spot App numerous times and had my colleagues do the same and called AT&T Wireless customer service to no avail. They simply refuse to acknowledge the issue is on their end. I personally know at least 5 other iPhone 4S users in my office who are experiencing the same issue and the results can be consistently recreated on all of their devices. And again, once they leave the office in the afternoon, all of their services return to normal and they can again make and place Voice initiated phone calls without the dreaded Call Failed. Thanks AT&T.

  • Can Make Voice/Sms calls, but cannot recieve any Voice or SMS on Iphone 4

My wife and I recieved our new IPhone 4's last wednesday. We are both new to at&t and Iphones. Had our numbers ported over from verizon. Since then when we are at home our phones seem to make outgoing calls and send txt msg's just fine. But both are only sporadically recieving calls and txt msg's. We are showing 5 bars on the E network, also have wifi hooked up to them from our router. I've tried full restores, reset network connection, had tech support re-register both phones, and power cycle them many times. It seems briefly after after resetting all network settings the missing txt will all flood in for a moment then it's back to just every now and then receiving them. I've also tried turning everything off in my house that cause interference which didn't help either.
Has any else had similar issues? And no this is not even holding on to the phone when this happens.

    Bump

  • Siri can't make local calls?

Siri can't make local phone calls, but she can make an international call. I bought my 4S factory unlocked in the US; have any idea what I should look at?

Switch Siri off then on again.
Do you have in Settings > General > Siri > My Info > your own contact info here?
And in your own contact info in Contacts app, is your mum in relation group?

  • Will a voice dialing car kit feature work with iphone 3g?

I am a new iphone user, and I know it doesn't have voice dialing, but I can't figure out if I can get around this by buying a car kit that offers voice dialing (e.g. parrot or motorola). Does this feature on the car kit require that the phone do voice dialing itself, or does it stand alone?
Or ... any chance of an app being developed/released to allow voice dialing on the iphone directly?
    Thanks.

Tried it. It works, but isn't a perfect solution. Here's the direct link to the app.
There's a brief one-time initialization. With the app active, you need to press and hold a large icon while you speak. It searches, finds the contact, and presents you with a list of 4 possible numbers (main, home, work, mobile). Even if you have only one type of number (e.g. just the mobile number), you get all 4 buttons (the others just say 'not available') and have to press the button to make the call. It only works via the built-in mic, not bluetooth.
So, assuming you have the app open when you start driving, you'd need to press-and-hold while you speak, then locate and press the number choice. That's two looks at the screen, and that assumes it gets the name right (it did a pretty good job in my testing, missed one, and the "next name" button is pretty small. Easier than scrolling through contacts, though.
IMHO, a better bet for frequently called numbers is a Utility like Speed Dial, definitely worth the 99¢.

  • Iphone4 - i0s 7.1 update - cannot turn voice dialing off

Ever since my phone updated last week - whenever my phone has been locked and gotten pressed against something in my back it has been dialing random numbers. When i first got my phone I disabled voice dialing/calling by going to settings-general-passcaode-lock-turn off voice dialing. However, since the update the passcode has a bit of it's own and even inside that there is no voice dialing turn off option.
Anyone know where the voice dialing' turn off/on feature is now with the new update?
    Thanks

just spoke to adviser and they fixed it with this:
    1. Turn Siri on --> settings --> general --> Siri
    2. (just for the case you deactivated Siri here, not sure if you need to do that)
settings --> general --> restrictions --> Siri on
    3. settings --> passcode --> Turn Passcode on --> Allow Access when Locked --> Siri OFF
and it works better than before since you can't activate Voice Control anymore when your iPhone is locked...

  • Voice Dialing Glitch???

I have a password on my iPhone 4 so no one could use or get into my phone.I noticed that if my phone is locked, and I hold down the home button to make a hands free/voice dial call, where I just say a name or number,it bypasses my password lock and makes the call go through. Isn't this a security threat? Anyone who picks up my phone can just hold down the home button to make a voice dial call with my phone. They can call any name in my contacts and dial any number, bypassing my password. Am I missing something here??????

CORRECT ANSWER: Solution provided to me by Apple Tech Support-
When landing on the screen to enter your passcode, you must first press each number once to select it, then do a quick "double tap" on that number.  For instance, if your passcode is 1234:
    1.  Press "1".  Wait a few seconds, then double tap "1-1".
    2.  Press "2".  Wait a few seconds, then double tap "2-2".
    3.  Press "3".  Wait a few seconds, then double tap "3-3".
    4.  Press "4".  Wait a few seconds, then double tap "4-4".
Unfortunately, you must also "double tap" each item in the menu once you gain access to the phone.  Furthermore, you must use 3 fingers simultaneously to scroll down or up.
I do not recommend voice over.

  • Voice phone call with lookout ?

Is it possible to make voice phone call with lookout

Lookout can't simply make a phone call, but there are several ways to do it with 3rd party software or hardware.
Have a look at this thread.

  • 6131 voice dialing

A discontinued model but just bought new and unable to make voice dialing work for me (one of the reasons I bought the phone) 'Latest' firmware applied but on accessing voice dialing via the volume down button (is there any other way ?) I get an error message on screen 'VOICE SYSTEM ERROR'.
What am I doing wrong or what have I not configured ? Or is the phone at fault ?
Many thanks if anyone can help,Kevin

It could be a simple error having occurred during the update, you can try updating again (it will istall a fresh copy of the version you just upgraded to).
Alternately, there is not much else you cna do with this model yourself, you would have to take it to a Nokia service point. If your phone is still under warranty, problems caused by NSU can be repaired free.

  • When i ask siri to call me by my name she thinks im saying to voice dial someone

i just got my iphone so i asked siri to call me by my name (Nicole) and she thought i was saying call nicole and like voice dial her. what should i say to make it mean to call me by my name.

You need to set yourself up as a contact (in the contacts app), then go to Settings - General - Siri - My Info and select yourself. Then Siri will know you by name.

        tfoxx,
We want to make sure that everythig is working on the device without any kind of issues. When did you notice that the dial pad went away once a phone call is made or received? Do you have a screen protector on the phone that covers the sensors on the device? Please keep us posted.

  • My elderly mother hss EXTREMELY limited vision and is a technophobe. I am considering an iPhone with Siri.  Can I turn off everything else so she can use only the phone app and voice dialing and not accidentally open any other app and screw something

My elderly mother has EXTREMELY limited vision and is a technophobe. I am considering an iPhone with Siri.  Can I turn off everything else so she can use only the phone app and voice dialing or Siri and not accidentally open any other app and screw something up.

I'm asking, in all seriousness, why do you think your mother needs an iPhone? Honestly, if your mother is, as you described her, a technophobe, I would recommend against getting an iPhone or any other smartphone. I've spent a fair bit of time teaching older folks to use smartphones. If they are interested in learning, it's fine. If they have the phone because their kids or grandkids thought it was a good idea but they are afraid of the phone or not interested in its features, it doesn't go well at all.
Many basic phones have voice dialing. Obviously, it doesn't do all the things Siri does but it may be much less intimidating for your mom. Also, basic phones have hardware keys. Even someone with limited vision can learn the keyboard on such a phone. From the sound of your first post, all she will be doing is making phone calls.
    Best of luck.

  • My Biggest Problem with Siri - Voice Dialing

My biggest complaint with Siri is that voice dialing requires an Internet connection.  If I want to initiate a voice call to someone in my contact list why does Siri waste the time and bandwidth to access my contacts on my iPhone via the Internet?  This makes no sense and is much slower than was the case with normal voice control.
My suggestion would be that when you say "call" Joe Smith Siri will first look in your contact list.  Why would you have it any other way?
Am I missing something here or was this overlooked?

Siri also can't find contacts with non-typical but still common and phonetically simple spellings - Rebekah or Coffman.  The regular voice commands don't have this problem.  To Apple apologists who suggest that I go through my 800+ contacts and enter phonetic assistance, hey, get a life.  I need stuff that just works, which is supposed to be the the Apple hallmark.  My very first Palm Treo smartphone had more accurate voice dialing, and that has been true on all the Palm and Blackberry phones I had before getting a 4s.
There is a solution.  Turn Siri off permanently.  The non-SIRI voice dialing works better (though still not as good as my old phones).  Then go to the app store and install Dragon Dictation and Dragon Go.  Both are free as of this writing.  Dragon Dictation is faster, easier to use, and more accurate than Siri.  Dragon Go is slightly clunkier to use than Siri, but the results are equally good.  Neither has the frequent Siri "not available" problem.  You will have to live without the smarmy comebacks, though.
