    Hello, iytask4me.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
I understand that your microphone is not working.  Try resetting the System Management Controller (SMC).  Once this is done, test using the microphone.

  • I removed the internal microphone - how do I get it back?

OK, I did a very stupid thing. It was late at night, I was recording - something I've done many times before - but the computer is brand new (L540 ThinkPad).
I was recording through the USB port from a synthesizer  with a Audio to USB interface, and the internal microphone on the ThinkPad was recording room noises along with the synth, so I went to the control panel, clicked Sound, went to the Recording Tab and removed the RealTek internal microphone from the system.
Well, like I said, that was a stupid thing to do when I could have muted it with the F4 key - but this is the first computer I've ever had with that feature so I didn't think of it. I've been using ThinkPads since the R30, I've had R40, R50 and R60 series. You know I've seen the icon there, so I should have known, but like I said, it's late, and I've been working on this song since before noon today.
So now the question is this. Since I obviously removed it from the system, is there any way to get it back?
If so, step by step how do I do that?
I googled and couldn't find the answer - perhaps I didn't use the magic search terms.
I apologize for being such a dummy, I'm not always that stupid, but on occasion I am.
I hope there is a way to get it back into the system - I'm sure it's physically there.
Thanks for any help you can offer.

I am unsure what exactly you did (which Windows version by the way?), because I think there is no option to *delete* a device from that screen (only disable).
When you right-click there, do you have a "Hide disabled devices" option? If yes, enable it and then enable the device again.
If that does not help, check device manager - if you have your microphone there, but disabled, try to re-enable it there. If you have some unknown audio device instead, reinstall the audio driver. If you have neither, the "add new hardware wizard" (hdwwiz.exe) should find it again for you - but I think it should be found again at the next reboot anyway.

  • Can I disable the internal microphone

    Hi,
I have been trying to disable the internal microphone on my eMac (1.42GHz PowerPC G4) with no luck.
Okay to start at the beginning...we have a new application that uses headset with microphone. I have updated the Sys Pref to point to Line-in, but it does not pick up the external microphone.
I have updated the Utilities- Audio Midi Setup - Audio Devices - so that the Audio Input also says Line-In.
I cannot change the System Settings (Default Input/Default Output/System Output/Properties For) which currently say "Built-in Audio', because there is nothing else in the drop list selection.
It was suggested that I disable the internal microphone to force the Line-In to work, but I can't figure out where to do such a thing.
    Any suggestion? Please.
    Thanks much.
    Stella

Evidently the headset/microphone combo purchased is not compatible with my eMac. Interestingly using the LineIn add-on I was able to get some sound picked up by the eMac?????
It turns out the person who originally suggested disabling the internal mic to me had actually flipped her settings back to using the internal mic without knowing it and sent me on a wild goose chase. Thanks all to responders for all your knowledge

Not something I've ever done, but I found a 9-year-old article from MacWorld -> http://www.macworld.com/article/1041790/tapetocd.html - that explains it a bit. Apparently the only software that you need is GarageBand and a hardware interface. Just Google "copy audio cassette to mac" and you'll get tons of hits.
    Good luck,

  • The internal microphone can't be found?

Yesterday evening my iBook G3 with OSX 10.3.4 crashed (don't ask me how).. anyway, now the internal microphone can't be found. In the sound settings it just says "no sound input device found". Does anyone know what to do about it?

Hi, and welcome to Apple Discussions.
Chances are that the crash did some damage to your hard drive (which may or may not be the cause of your microphone problem).
Try booting into Safe Mode. This will take quite awhile longer than a normal startup because it does a file check and repair of the hard disk.
You will see your normal desktop. Once completely started up in Safe Mode, try to restart normally, and go to Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility. Click on the top hard drive icon in the left sidebar and note the S.M.A.R.T. status at the bottom right of the pane. What does it say?
Select the named boot volume in the left sidebar, and repair permissions on it.
See if a little hard drive maintenance helps things out.
Every time you have to do a forced shutdown (as when a crash occurs) instead of a normal one, there is a chance of hard drive damage and you should repair the hard drive, either by booting into Safe Mode or starting up from the Mac OS X Install Disk by inserting the disk and restarting your computer, holding down the C key at the end of the startup chime. Then choose Installer>Open Disk Utility and select the disk in the left column. Choose the First Aid tab. Click Repair Disk to test and repair the hard drive. Once you have repaired the hard drive with either Safe Mode or the Install CD's Disk Utility, then start up normally and repair permissions from Disk Utility in the Utilities folder on your hard drive.
If repairing the hard drive and repairing permissions does not correct the problem, you may want to consider upgrading your OS to 10.3.9. There was a certain version of OS 10.3 that did exhibit problems with the microphone not being recognized, but I'm uncertain as to which version that was, and if yours was recognized in 10.3.4 and then not, that probably isn't your problem. But an upgrade to 10.3.9 wouldn't hurt, following F.J.'s suggestions in the User Tip, Upgrade! But do it right!

i've a iMac 27', summer of 2012, and my garageband doesn't record by the internal microphone, what can I do, to resolve this problem?
only for contextualize, in other softwares the microphone record correctly like quicktime, or in facetime, even photobooth. but in garage band not.
i dont know if its a problem of the software, an error of actualization, or a bad configuration. please give me a hand.
    cheers.

Did you choose the mic as the input device in Garageband Preferences?

    Try reset iPad
Hold down the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears
Note: Data will not be affected.

  • Will this ram work on the internal slot

    http://cgi.ebay.com/MICRON-1GB-PC2100-2100-266Mhz-DDR-266-Mhz-184PIN-1-GB-G_W0QQ itemZ270086275196QQihZ017QQcategoryZ74942QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

That RAM module will work in the internal slot of a 17-inch 1GHz iMac G4. It won't fit into the slots of a slower iMac, and is too slow to work in a newer iMac.

  • Why the alarm dosn't work when the iphone off?

why the alarm dosn't work when the iphone off?i make alarm then i switch the phone off .but the alarm didn't work .in the past nokia phones it was work

"Standby" (or "Sleep" is the phone's normal state when not in use. "Off" is when the phone is totally shut down by holding down the Sleep button the doing the "Slide to Power Off" on the screen.
If you believe it is dangerous to be in the same room as an iPhone, your question is pointless. I suggest you invest in a clockwork alarm clock.

  • My macbook air doesn't let me use the internal microphone

My macbook air doesn't let me use the internal microphone while my headphones are plugged in.  The reason I want to use the internal mic is that the person I talk to can hear me louder if I used the internal mic.  Can someone help please ASAP?  Thanks.

I assume you're using the 3 slot mini jack of the Apple earbuds/ mic.    Use a 2 slot headphone jack that doesn't make contact with the the microphone contact in the headset jack on the AIr.
The Air has a HEADSET jack, in which either headphones or headsets can be used.
headset jack on left, for both MIC and headset...............headphone jack for earbuds/ speakers on right (listening only)

  • I'm using the note taking view of Word 2011 for Mac so I can record a meeting as well as take notes. The audio of the internal microphone is so low - can I attach an external mic and have it work with note taking view?

Can I attach an external mic to my Macbook Air to enhance sound input for the note taking view of Word 2011 for Mac? I've tried preferences to up the volume of my sound, but I still cannot hear the recording. Any suggestions? I need to record a meeting as well as take notes so I'd like to use this tool, but the audio is not good enough.

A USB microphone can work with the Air, and I've used them before with my 11" Air.  Griffin also made a product (the iMic) that will add a standard computer microphone port, connecting to your USB port.  It's heyday was the time of the old iBook laptops (which also lacked a microphone in jack) but I think it's still around.
The single sound port on the 2011 models, as I recall, supports iPhone style headphone/microphone but I don't believe it will support a standard microphone input.
The built in microphone sits on the left side of the computer and I suspect wouldn't work well for picking up a lecture unless you were sitting just right in position vs. the speaker (preferably having the speaker positioned to the left and sitting really close).  By design most laptop microphones presume they are going to be mainly used to record a sound coming from the person sitting at the keyboard, while for a lecture you normally would prefer it concentrate on sound coming from behind the screen.
