Siri has problems understanding certain names

Have Siri on my Iphone 4s and have all my contact names filled in with addresses etc. Was asking Siri to remind me when arriving at my local Market which is Albertsons and I gave it a reminder of lets say, milk cheese, steak, etc.... But it returns and tells me that it doesnt understand what I mean. So I change it to another actual person contact such as Garry Smith and it has not problem, this happened over and over with differenct store names such as Vons, Pavilions, Ralphs so I dont understand what is going on here. It has the address of the market so it would know when I arrived at the position but it only works for my people contacts in my address book. If I ask it to call the store it has no problem bringing the number up from the contact list so I was a bit puzzled by this. Anyone have any thoughts on this.??? I was just hoping to be able to use it for like a quick shopping list on the fly so when I reach the market I would not forget anything, sort of like a quick shopping list. Anyhow I have not been able to crack this problem yet.

Siri won't recognize certain names in Contacts

When using my iphone 5C (running 7.0.3.) to email, call or text a friend named Chris Ryder, Siri always recommends 2 to 3 different contacts, citing she can't find the contact I'm requesting.
I've deleted his contat info and then created a new contact for him, but Siri still can't identify him. Any suggestions?

Reminders uses data detectors to automatically convert text, or speech via Siri, that refers to date and time into a scheduled date and time (i.e. Today, 6:00 PM). There is no option to turn data detectors off.
However, you can use a word that they do recognize to schedule a time of day after the word "evening". Depending upon the time of day the reminder is made it will either be scheduled for today, or tomorrow if the time of day has already passed.

Siri has trouble with certain words!

how can I get Siri to tell the difference between edge and age? I've tried so many times with "That is not how you pronounce "Edge" to no avail....any other solutions?

Siri does not understand certain commands

When I ask Siri to "Pause" while a song is playing Siri offers me a list of people to call or a web search. Siri does understand "Play" and "Skip".

Thank you again for your reply..............I have tried the UK Male version and the USA Female version and they are both as bad as each other..............The Australian Girl was slightly better but I thought I would stick to USA Female rather than the UK Male, but I have now reverted to him again to see if it makes a difference, but it did not. I am going to take it to the Apple store and see if they can resolve the issue! I will let you know what they come up with if anything at all. Thank you again for your time and trouble.

Siri has problems with work

I've been using Siri to create reminders. She won't remind me when I leave work. She knows where work is and can quote me the address.
She recognizes my word "leaving work" or "when I leave work" because the text matches what I say.
But she only goes into to her speech about "I can remind you when you arrive or leave..." and around we go again. She will remind me "when I get home" or other standard locations. But anything to do with "work" goes back into the cycle. Any suggestions on what's happening?
A second question, is there any way to define other locations? For example, we use mostly one grocery. Can I define a location to be a grocery store and have her remind me at that location?

Strange indeed!
And the story got stranger when my wife's iphone would recognize my work place.
The problem is solved though... typo. A very small typo. Now everything works as expected.
The way i diagnosed the problem was through the map function. I could ask Siri for my house or other locations and get a map. When I asked her to show me WORK i got no such address.
The confusion was when I asked her what my work address was. Siri shows the whole address record, including home address. Since Siri doesn't need to look at the location, no error generated.
Problem solved. Have a great week, and thanks to those that replied.

Siri won't understand synonyms - any way to fix this?

I'm trying to get a stock quote for "YIPI" but, as funny as this sounds, it's true, no matter how I say it Siri keeps giving the reply "Why I p - can't find a quote for that..." or something along those lines. How can I differentiate between "Y" and "why"?

If so I beleive this might be a sercurity setting issue that is causing Siri to not work.
Because Siri has access to certain bits of personal infomation, siri must be allowed to work even when the phone is locked with a passcode and access those bits of information.
Try the following: Setting>General>Passcode Lock, then in the lower half of the sercuirty options you will need to select Siri and give her access when locked the phone is locked. This is under the title 'ALLOW ACCESS WHEN LOCKED.

How to get siri to recognize another contact name, when the contact name she has does not exist.

Siri could not understand me when I asked it to call my husband, (he has a name I have a hard time pronouncing) so I put in a middle name for siri to understand. I then deleted the middle name from his contact, however, siri still tries to text/call that contact when prompted even though it does not exist.

Never mind, I already found the solution myself.
What I did wrong was:
- not copying the master image to the nbi folder
- selecting the netinstall-restore.dmg image as source to copy to my HD.
The thing is, when you create a netinstall image for 10.5, the image itself is already included in the netinstall image so you don't have to do anything else.
With the 10.4 image however, you also have to copy the master image to the NetBootSP0 directory.
In the *.nbi folder contains an netinstall-restore.dmg file. But that is only to boot you to netrestore, it's not the image itself.
Other alternative is to copy the images to another folder that you share with AFP and adjust the configuration of netrestore like described in this manual:

This manual was also how I figured out that I forgot to copy the image to the NetBootSP0 folder.

Siri doesn't understand when using headset

My wife and I are both experiencing this problem with Siri on iPhone 5. Siri doesn't understand us when using any external headphones. She's experiencing this with a wireless Jawbone and I'm using a wired Sennheiser/Adidas. If we turn Siri off, Voice Control works just fine on both devices, and Siri works fine if using the phone by itself, so it's obviously not some sort of accent/mumbling problem or fundamental headset issue.
Asking Siri for playlist "Peak Mix" through the headphones gets me "You don't have a playlist:" "Keith Nix", "Peter Max", "Cake Mix", ... Oddly, saying exactly this through the headphones to plain ol' Voice Control (Siri disabled) works JUST FINE. Also, disconnecting the headphones and using Siri with the iPhone's mic also works JUST FINE
This also appears to have changed recently, within the last month or so (May 2013). I don't recall having these issues a few months ago. 6.1.4 issue? I've tried the "usual" fixes, disable/re-enable Siri, restart the iPhone, etc.

Siri doesn't understand 'home' if your address is not listed correctly in contacts. It can be the label for the address field is wrong or that your own address is not listed at all. Using iCloud's to store your Personal data instead of for example Google might also help. iCloud has special fields for storing information that Google using exchange sync does not provide, eg fields for storing your mothers and fathers name. Siri can learn a few things while speaking to it but it doesn't understand everything right off the bat. If you ask Siri 'call my girlfriend' but doesn't know it Siri might ask you who she is in your contact list. That doesn't work for everything though.

Siri can't understand "Rate this song 5 stars"

My goal is to rate all of my music.
So I have a playlist of all 'unrated' songs, that I typically play to/from work in the car during the home-work-home commute.
So I'd like to be able to instruct Siri to rate the current sing playing by just saying 'rate this song 4 stars' or something like that.
That would be the least distracting to my driving and allow me to use the commute to rate my songs.
Other commands could be :
-Add to playlist <playlist name>
-Remove from this playlist
-Copy (or move) to playlist <playlist name>
I thought that this would have been one of the most useful Siri command sets for the music playing while driving/moving context.

I this is very strange indeed.in my case it's exactly the opposite that is happening.Siri has no problem understanding me on my iPhone 5 but all of a sudden starting two days ago, Siri Eye in my Honda Civic doesn't understand me or parts of what I'm saying only....

Siri WILL NOT learn correct name pronunciation!

This problem occurs for multiple first and last names in my contacts—the following is just one example:
My last name is "Weber". Fairly simple and not uncommon. Siri had no trouble pronouncing it for any of my family members while I was using iOS 6. In fact, I don't recall any pronunciation problems in iOS 6, but now that I have Siri's "improved" version in iOS 7, many names are mis-pronounced. Siri REFUSES to learn how to say my last name correctly. Same with my wife's first name. About once a month since the realse of iOS 7 I've tried to correct Siri's pronunciations using slow, clear speaking and varied techniques (such as placing clear pauses between syllables, over-emphasizing each sounds, etc.) No luck.
When teaching pronunciations, the three examples Siri gives often sound identical to one another and are still very wrong. Names seem have a German dialect to them... (e.g., Weber can only be pronounced "Vayber" or "Wember" no matter how hard I try.) Is there something I'm missing here? Siri has gotten so much worse and it is incredibly frustrating...

It sounds like Siri is mis pronouncing names that used to sound just fine before iOS 7. It sounds like Siri may be using a different accent than it used to. I recommend checking the language settings for Siri to see if the correct dialect is selected.
Go to Settings > General > Siri > Language.

Problem with song names

Hey, I'm having this problem with song names. For example, instead of the song title being "Song Title" it will be like "Artist Name - Song Title". It's like this for half my files. I'm trying to organize my music files and every time I fix it, it keeps going back.
This has happened to me before and usually if I double click it, it will automatically change. This time, nothing seems to work except doing it manually ("Get Info)" and that would take too long since I have 7,000 files like this. I posted this on another board and somebody said to right click the songs and click Update ID3 v2.4 which originally worked, but now nothing but manually doing it works.
This is like this when I open it for other programs, but I know iTunes caused. I think it has something to do with the "Keep my iTunes Folder Organized" check because iTunes renames the file. I also tried reinstalling itunes and readding my files.

I don't completely understand what you are trying to say, but iTunes doesn't automatically change your tag information.
iTunes stores a copy of the tag information in the library database. When you play a track, iTunes re-reads the tag information from the song file and updates the library data. This produces the efferct that iTunes appears to change tag information but it isn't, it is meerly reflecting a change that already happend.
Do you have any other software on your PC that can automatically change tag information? For example Windows Media player can do it if you select an option to retrieve data from the internet and overwrite existing info. But other software may do it too.
If you want to force iTunes to re-read all tags, go to your Music view and go to Edit>>Select All. Then right click in the selection and choose Get Info. Don't change anything, just exit by clicking OK. iTunes will update the library with the tag information from the song files.

I have a 4s, and I've had that problem, too. I've tried every method mentioned on the boards. If Ellips's suggestion didn't work, try this, and please let me know if it worked:
(I did the following while the phone was connected to my pc...if that makes a difference.)
1. On the phone, go to Music.
2. Click "More."
3. Click "Shared."
4. My phone lists "iPhone" and my iTunes Libary. Try clicking the name of your music library.
5. Wait until the circle makes its loop.
The synch still failed to complete, but all of my music was on my iPhone, again. Whew.
