Siri languages

Hi everyone!
I have a question about SIRI: I know that, at the moment, the SIRI software is available only in a few languages (english, french, german?).
If, for example, I'll buy the new Iphone 4s in UK, with the english language, it will possible to download the Italian language when it'll be available?
Another question: if I buy it in UK, can I use the Iphone in other countries?
Thank you!

I've been told (here: https://discussions.apple.com/message/16556308#16556308) the Italian language SIRI will be dowloadable for free when it'll be available. I'm not sure, anyway.
About the second question: yes, you'll be able to use it anywhere. From the FAQ (http://www.apple.com/iphone/features/siri-faq.html):
Can I use Siri in any of these languages in other countries?
Yes. Siri can be enabled in any country, and you can choose to speak to it in English, French, or German. However, Siri is designed to recognize the specific accents and dialects of the supported countries listed above (US, UK and Australia for English; Germany for German; France for French). Since every language has its own accents and dialects, the accuracy rate will be higher for native speakers.
In Italian:
Dalle FAQ (http://www.apple.com/iphone/features/siri-faq.html):
Potrò usare Siri in queste lingue in altri Paesi?

  • How can I quickly change Siris language?

I would like to use Siri both in German (mostly if i want to write to or call somebody in germany - she doesn't understand german names) and English.
Obviously, the language can be changed in settings, but that's a rather long and awkward process if I only want to quickly have her call somebody. Is it possible to change her language using a specific command (like "change language to German")? I wasn't able to find anything of the like, and I think there is no setting to always use her bilingually (or is there?).
I'd be thankful for any help on this matter :)
    Lou

Siri should understand either language out of the box. This doesn't specifically state that you have to change the country or region in it, but I made some type bold at the bottom, that may infer that you have to that.
EDIT - I just asked Siri if she spoke Spanish - as a test. She told me that she speaks ...... And then she told me to change the languages in the settings. So - I do not see any shortcut to quickly switch between languages.

  • Can't set Siri for American English

I purchased my iPhone 6 in USA.  Just returned from two weeks in Australia.  Siri still thinks it's in Australia.  For example, when I say the word COLOR, Siri spells it COLOUR.  Also, I can't change the date format.  I want American style ... MM/DD/YY, but my iPhone shows format used in Australia ... DD/MM/YY.  How do I return my iPhone to USA settings?

    Hi David,
For Siri please change the preferences in "Settings > General > Siri > Language" and for the date format go to "Settings > General > Language & Region" and choose the one you prefer.
    With kind regards,
    David

  • Why does siri sound robotic?

Just updated my iPad iOS to 6.0.1 and now Siri's voice sounds robotic like someone's shoved something down its throat. Tried changing to different languages and they all have the same robotic tint to them. Any one have any idea what's going on? I have the most recent iPad ( iPad 3 I think)

    Hey appleab,
Great question. I believe the following article addresses your concerns:
iOS: Understanding Siri and VoiceOver voices
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5025
Your iOS device initially uses a compact voice for both Siri and VoiceOver. After you have configured a Wi-Fi network and have the device connected to a power source, iOS will automatically download and install a more natural-sounding voice.
    Siri
    1. Go to Settings > General > Siri > Language.
    2. Select the Language and Voice Gender* you want to use.
Note: If you change the language or gender for Siri, the new enhanced-quality voice will need to download.
    Thanks,
    Matt M.

  • Why Does Siri Sound fast/robotic?

I notice that with iOS7 that Siri sounds different on TV ad's and videos online, but after I updated mind does sound different but robotic, works fine and only after I bought a used iPhone 4s from a work friend and setup for my Mom to use as an iPOD her Siri voice sounds so much BETTER... like non-robotic and more natural voice, both are different from iOS6 but my phone is different not natural, I seen many posting about this problem but no real fix.
I have Apple Care and before I call or visit a store I thought ill post this?
    Thanks

  • Is it possible to customize Siri's voice?

Just wondering, is it possible to have a little personality in Siri's voice.
I tried find out: can I personalize your voice?
She responded, "I don't really like these arbitrary categories"
    Okay then.

    Luke Tookey wrote:
Go onto Settings>General>Siri>Language and then you can choose any of the English ones and they work fine!
However, if you are in the U.S. and you change the language to anything other than the U.S. version of English, you will lose access to location based services with Siri.

  • TS4079 Siri not recognizing speech?

I have an IPod Touch 5th generation.....when I press and hold the home button, it says "What can I help you with" when I ask a question and release the button....all Siri does is scroll through the "Some things you can ask me:" screens...
I am holding down the button while I speak
The location services are enabled for Siri
I have Siri on in the General Settings
I have downloaded the new 7.1 OS but this is a new product for me and Siri hasn't worked since I got it....

    HI!
Tried everything recommended on line with no luck
Contacted Apple twice. Made a lot of checks, they even sent an e-mail with recommendations, but none of them has worked.
    - Restored the phone as new.
    - Restored from iCloud.
    - Soft Reset.
    - Check location services.
    - Turn off and on Siri
    - Changed Siri language
    - Enabled location services for Siri
    - Added my details as a contact and assigned it to Siri.
    - Tried wifi / 3G
    - Rebooted my home router
Siri only worked the first day.
    NOTHING WORKED...

  • Siri WILL NOT learn correct name pronunciation!

This problem occurs for multiple first and last names in my contacts—the following is just one example:
My last name is "Weber". Fairly simple and not uncommon. Siri had no trouble pronouncing it for any of my family members while I was using iOS 6. In fact, I don't recall any pronunciation problems in iOS 6, but now that I have Siri's "improved" version in iOS 7, many names are mis-pronounced. Siri REFUSES to learn how to say my last name correctly. Same with my wife's first name. About once a month since the realse of iOS 7 I've tried to correct Siri's pronunciations using slow, clear speaking and varied techniques (such as placing clear pauses between syllables, over-emphasizing each sounds, etc.) No luck.
When teaching pronunciations, the three examples Siri gives often sound identical to one another and are still very wrong. Names seem have a German dialect to them... (e.g., Weber can only be pronounced "Vayber" or "Wember" no matter how hard I try.) Is there something I'm missing here? Siri has gotten so much worse and it is incredibly frustrating...

    Hello JoetWeber,
It sounds like Siri is mis pronouncing names that used to sound just fine before iOS 7. It sounds like Siri may be using a different accent than it used to. I recommend checking the language settings for Siri to see if the correct dialect is selected.
Go to Settings > General > Siri > Language.

  • Dictation language on apple watch

My Apple watch is originally setup in English, but I would like to change the dictation language to Chinese. How do I do that? On iPhone, it changes depends on the language of keyboard user selected, but seems there is not keyboard on Apple Watch, How do I switch around? or at least change the default dictation language.

not working, it will only change the UI to Chiense, Even Siri is still in English, I found out that you need to change Siri language on your iPhone, but that just for Siri, dictation language is still in English.

  • Dictation language

When sending message, dictation language for some of my contacts is French while for others is English. Watch and iPhone are set to French. Anyone know why it is behaving like this?
    Many thanks!

    From the Watch documentation :
    Send a preset reply.
If the preset replies aren’t in the language you want to use, you can change them by switching to the keyboard for that language in the same conversation in Messages on iPhone. Cancel your original reply on Apple Watch, then reply again to see the replies in the new language. If you don’t want to change keyboards, you can dictate and send an audio clip in the language of your choice.
    Dictate text.
If you use more than one language and your dictation isn’t transcribed in the right language for a conversation, you can still send it as an audio clip. To change the dictation language, change the Siri language on iPhone in Settings > General > Siri, then start a new conversation.
Nevertheless, when selecting a friend by the side button on the Watch, Siri was always using English whereas French was selected for Siri, and using Siri in the message app on the watch for other contacts was correctly in French.
I had removed my friend, and added her again and now Siri understands French for her messages.
Anyway this seems to be related to the keyboard used on the iPhone, even if Siri uses different languages without touching the iPhone. Is this related to the keyboard on iPhone when the friend is added to the watch?
