Siri seems to ignore middle names, but only sometimes

I'm trying to teach Siri that my father is Mark Richard Smith. Mark Smith is a common name in our family. I, my eldest son, and several cousins have that name. But we all have different middle names.
When I tell Siri my father is Mark Richard Smith, Siri gives me a list of all of the Mark Smith's. When I touch the one that is my father (Mark Richard Smith), Siri then gives me a list of the Richard Smith's in my contact list. It is people with the first name of Richard, who have different middle names (not Mark!).
I suppose I can make up unique contract entries to work around this, but it would be great is Siri could handle it.
It seems like a programming problem, but hopefully one of you will tell me something I'm missing.

Are you putting both your father's first and middle names in the first name field? If not, try it. Or put them both in the nickname field (you may have to add that field).

JPGs are used for quick proofing on an iPad.    DNG RAW files are edited on a Mac Pro (2013).    Other than deleting the JPGs before importing images from the SD card, is there any way to force Photo to select and import only the DNG images?

I did see the J stacked in the lower left of the thumbnails but couldn't figure out how to get to whatever is below it.   How do you select R?
I use an iPad to do quick proofs of my images.   A JPG is good enough for a proof ( dust on the lens, composition, blown out image, etc. ).   The iPad is JPG friendly and can load the images quickly.    Serious editing takes place on my Mac Pro with the DNG files.   I use the same workflow with the the Leica M 240.   iPhoto has been a quick and easy importer to the Mac capturing all of the metadata in the EXIF sidecar file ( location, date, time, camera settings, lens type). A quick scan in iPhoto for the "keepers" let's me export those worth editing to Lightroom/Bridge/Photoshop. I typically shoot 50 images from three locations in a normal day. If I'm lucky I'll get 1 worth real work to add to the portfolio.

Example - If I say good morning it will say good morning to you too, (my name) but it doesn't say my name. but the text shows my name. Also, is there a way to make SIRI say good morning or good afternoon when phone is activated?

My Macbook air charges fine with the Thunderbolt screen connection but only sometimes with the 45 W chargers. It seems to be the combination of the chargers and the computer. I was thinking whether the Thunderbolt screen has a larger power supply which easier activates the computer to actually receive the charge. It reminds me a bit of the Nokia Lumia 800 telephone, which when totally exhausted needs a strong charger to be activated again. I am as frustrated as most others. I have got two chargers, and both of them sometimes work, other times not. Sometimes, they start working after a while. Is Apple meanwhile coming up with a solution or advice how to handle such situation?

I just got my ATD and late 2011 MBP up and running. I've not tried running without the power adapter from the ATD plugged in, but I just tried and didn't have any problems with the display not waking. You may want to take your query to the ATD forum - https://discussions.apple.com/community/peripherals/thunderbolt_display - perhaps someone there has experienced a similar issue.

My Firefox 20 seems to not shut down but only restart. Also, rather than my home page, the last pages visited appear.

It's as if Firefox 20.0 never shuts down but only restarts.
Even when I close Firefox 20.0 by clicking the X button on the top right or use "exit," when I open Firefox, it acts the same as if I'd used "restart," namely the tabs don't load until I click on them. Furthermore, the 4 pages I use as my home pages aren't there but rather whatever pages I had up when I last closed my browser.
I have tried creating a new profile, which worked ONE TIME. Then, it went back to my problem.
I have used "restore" to go back to a time before the problem started but that hasn't worked.
I removed the addon I had downloaded in that time period but that didn't help, either.

Does it seem like that Firefox is crashing? Try checking if there are any crash reports by going to about:crashes in your browser. Alternatively you can try safe mode as outlined below:

Can't browse a Windows Server share by name, but only by IP.

I have one babbling problem. I have three servers, 01, 02, and 03. 01 and 02 are running Windows Server 2008 R2 and both are physical servers.  H001 is running Windows 2012 with a Virtual Windows 2008 R2 server (Hyper-V) called 03.
01 is setup as the Active Directory, DNS, Domain Controller, and a few other server roles. 02 replicates 01 and 03 has a few programs on it.
The problem I am having is that when I log in (Domain or non-Domain) Mapped drivers to 01 and 02 are populated automatically, but 03 can’t be found. If I ping the name, 03 it tells me that 03 is not there. However, if I ping 03’s ip address,
I can see it. I can even do a tracert. I can do a remote desktop to 01 and 02 using the network names but with 03 I have use the ip address.
Trying to do a Remote Desktop connection with the server name, 03 gives me the error, "The connection cannot be completed because the remote computer that was reached is not the one you specified. This could be caused by an outdated entry in the
DNS cache. Try using the IP address of the computer instead of the name."
I can use the IP address to connect but I really require to use the name.
If I login to the Domain, 03 takes up to 60 minutes to appear. I am then able to access shared resources with the name and not the ip.
I searched the Internet for a solution, but couldn’t find anything that worked. Any ideas you have, please let me know.

Thanks for clarifying. I missed that H001 was the name of your Hyper-V server.
In order for 03 to register its name in DNS, first of all the checkbox to "register this connection's addresses in DNS" must be enabled on the network interface. By default it is enabled, so it probably is enabled unless you somehow disabled it.
In order to accomplish the DNS registration (adding it's host name and IP address to the domain) it sends an SOA query to the primary DNS server configured on its network interface (it does this on all network interfaces if there are multiple). The SOA query
basically asks the question: What DNS server is authoritative for my domain? In other words, where do I need to send this information?
Note: If the computer is a DHCP client, and DHCP is configured to register records on behalf of clients, then the DHCP server issues the SOA query.
Below is an example of how to issue an SOA query using nslookup. The computer will add its own domain instead of contoso.com.

Server: ipam1.contoso.com
Address: 192.168.0.3
Non-authoritative answer:
contoso.com
        primary name server = dc1.contoso.com
        responsible mail addr = hostmaster.contoso.com

The query above tells you a couple things:
1. The DNS server that the SOA query is sent to is 192.168.0.3 (aka ipam1.contoso.com). That's because 192.168.0.3 is the primary DNS server configured on this computer's network adapter.
2. The authoritative DNS server for contoso.com is 192.168.0.1 (aka dc1.contoso.com).
If I configure an IP address on ipam1.contoso.com - say I change it from 192.168.0.3 to 192.168.0.4, the computer will ask it's DNS server where to send the update, it will find out that the update needs to be sent to 192.168.0.1, and it will send a request
to the DNS server at 192.168.0.1 to change the host (A) record from .3 to .4.
If no SOA record is returned when the query is sent, perhaps because the computer has no domain or belongs to a domain that is hosted somewhere else, then registration of the host name won't happen.
Registration also won't happen if the computer (03) can't reach the authoritative DNS server (01).
In your VM "03" open up a command prompt and issue the nslookup shown above, using your domain instead of contoso.com. Verify that an authoritative server is returned and that it is correct, and that you can get to 01 from 03.

"emergency calls only" - but only sometimes!

Hi everyone,
I bought the new iphone 4, and it worked just fine. The guy at the store (mobile phones store) inserted microsim, activated the device and everything was fine untill it was turned off by me. Then, when i would power it on, it would present the "emergency calls only" screen, but not allways! if you w8 for some time, try again, you can power it on normally, and again, if you power it down, and try again, guess what: "emergency calls only".
The craziest thing is that it gets the carrier signal once i turn it on successfully, but losses it after a few moments saying "no service".
Any idea on what could be the problem here?
i tried restoring with itunes, but except for losing all the data, it didn't really help....
do you think this is a sim card issue, or some hardware issue with the iphone?

Wifi "unable to connect", but only sometimes

ok so since i have had my iphone replaced (3g with 3.0), my wifi will connect randomly at home, and when it disconnects, (like putting it into sleep mode), i will go to wifi settings and try to connect to my home connection, but am only given the message "unable to connect to linksys". this is very odd because my iphone will connect by itself to my wifi connection without problems, only, i have no idea when this will happen. it randomly connects to wifi by itself.

Yes, this is widely reported 'feature' of 3.0. There are many current threads that may or may not help you (probably not.) Hopefully spotty WiFi will be fixed in the next firmware version.

Out of nowhere last week the screen just froze, on restart it was completely black. But after turning it on and off a few times the screen will appear, but it will freeze within a half hour or so of use. I have erased the drive and reinstalled a new system, ran the Hardware Test, replaced the battery(as it wasn't holding a charge), and the power cord which was showing signs of wear.
I don't believe it is the inverter as the screen is not even faint, it's completely "off", no sleep light etc. The only thing that I am able to do on a consistent basis is start up from the installer CD. This is what leads me to believe it's not the display itself. But at this point I am beyond baffled.
Anyone encounter a similar issue or have any idea what could be going on?

Both my wife and myself use the find my friends app. There are times when she logs on and it says that my location is unavailable. She is saying that I'm hitting the hide from followers but that's the case as I rarely even open the app. Could this be caused by sub-par service or data connections? Neither of us are using wifi, just cellular.

Yes, it could be caused by that. It relies on your data connection to the internet to locate your device. If it's intermittent or you are in an area with few cellular towers it may not be able to get a good location for you.

Z77 mpower mainboard giving me a code FF, but only sometimes?

I've just built my new PC and it's working almost perfectly except that sometimes when I switch it on all I get is code FF. But trying it again and it will come back as normal and give me no problems at all
I understand from reading posts that it's to do with the CPU and bent pins or an over-tightened heat-sink, but I've checked the board and cpu twice now with a magnifying glass and I can't see any problems in that regards. I've also tried adjusting the heat sink tightness. But I'm still getting this error, probably about 5 times out 10.

Intel i7 3.50Ghz 3770k idle temp is 34C
MSI Z77 MPower (MS-7751) updated to the latest BIOS
2x 8GB Kingston HyperX Blue dual channel DDR3 DIMMs @1600Mhz

My thinking is that it's a MB fault rather than the CPU due to it working perfectly once I get it to boot.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I've got an older model Enermax Galaxy 1000w modular PSU with two 12v CPU connections, 1 is an 8 pin the other is two 4 pins that can be connected together to make an 8 pin. I have tried both leads but get the same results. All connections are fully clicked in place. Hope it's not the PSU but I'll try a feed via the molex connector and see if that helps

TS3074 iTunes not not installed correctly, Error 7, 998 - but only sometimes

I am using Windows 7. Sometimes iTunes will not launch. I get a message that says iTune was not installed properly - Error 7, 998. I have deleted Apple programs (including iTunes) and reloaded them. I have added the net framework files that the help page recommends. The thing is, sometimes it still won;t launch. I eave the computer for a couple of hours, try again, and voila, iTune launches. Any ideas?

-sometimes when my rubric contact call me i can't seeyour name, but only your telephone number. I noticed that is common when the phone is locked with password.
I called the support, but I have not receives assistance!

It sounds as though you have content protection enabled on your address book. To disable this feature in OS6, search for "Encryption" within Options. Uncheck the "Include contacts" box.
