Siri won't recognize certain names in Contacts

When using my iphone 5C (running 7.0.3.) to email, call or text a friend named Chris Ryder, Siri always recommends 2 to 3 different contacts, citing she can't find the contact I'm requesting.
I've deleted his contat info and then created a new contact for him, but Siri still can't identify him. Any suggestions?

Reminders uses data detectors to automatically convert text, or speech via Siri, that refers to date and time into a scheduled date and time (i.e. Today, 6:00 PM). There is no option to turn data detectors off.
However, you can use a word that they do recognize to schedule a time of day after the word "evening". Depending upon the time of day the reminder is made it will either be scheduled for today, or tomorrow if the time of day has already passed.

I tried to create a reminder today for a Parents evening I had to attend .
I used Siri as usual and when asked what the reminder was for I said "parents evening". The two words came up but the reminder just said "parents"
I tried it again and the same happened so I tried "Parents Night" but the same thing happened.I then tried to just create a reminder for "evening" The word came up but Siri asked what I wanted to be reminded about again so I tried "night" and the same thing happened. I have tried on a 5s and a 6 both running the latest IOS anyone got any answers ?.Is there certain words you can't use

SIRI won't say my name but it's there in text.

SIRI won't say my name but it's there in text. When I ask it my name it will say it correctly. Example - If I say good morning it will say good morning to you too, (my name) but it doesn't say my name. but the text shows my name. Also, is there a way to make SIRI say good morning or good afternoon when phone is activated?

IMovie won't recognize certain 'File extensions' ??

Hi,
can anyone help here. I use Handbrake to compress Movie files before I use Quicktime to 'export to web' option, then import to iMovie to then edit before submitting ti iTunes ( keeps the size down but still have good quality ). Anyway even though the files from Handbrake have either a .mov or .m4v extension iMovie won't recognize them, but if I then use QT export to web ( which in turn makes a folder with the new files inside ) which have the .m4v, iMovie will see it !!
Any ideas please.
The compressed file under Handbrake is small but good quality ( 2.3Gb down to 178Mb ) but if I use QT it then becomes even bigger ( 539Mb ) !!!!!

I'm new to Handbrake so could you tell me what do you mean by 'Don't include extraneous data tracks' ?
Most people use HandBrake to convert DVD content (usually multiplexed M2V video and AC3 audio) to iPhone, iPod, TV, iTunes/Front Row files for viewing and/or iMovie '08 compatible files for editing. Since DVD content usually contains chapter data and the default setting for Apple device presets like TV normally default to include the chapter track data and (in older versions) may default to include an extra AC3 "passthrough" audio track, the output from such conversions are not supported by iMovie '08. If this is true, then re-exporting the content as you described would remove the extraneous data and explain why the files are incompatible with iMovie '08 before export and compatible after.
However, you have not confirmed that the incoming files are, in fact, stored on DVDs or indicated which specific settings are being used for your HandBrake conversions. iMovie '08 is only "edit" compatible with files containing DV, AIC, Motion-JPEG, Photo-JPEG, and certain profiles of MPEG-4 or H,264 video compressed data. So there is always a secondary possibility here that you are selecting an incompatible form of output form HandBrake and then using the "Export for Web" option to accidentally convert the incompatible compression format to a compatible one since this option exports to H.264/AAC by default.
If you have a much better way of doing this I am all ears especially if it makes my life easier, I am on a steep learning curve here ( sending video podcasts to iTunes but in good quality ).
The normal approach would be to select the iPod preset within HandBrake (or within QT Pro, GarageBand, MPEG Streamclip, etc. if the source file is QT compatible) and convert directly to an iMovie '08 compatible file. The iPod preset would create a file equivalent to the "Desktop" (1500 Kbps) file created by the "Export for Web..." option but, as previously mentioned may contain a "chapter" track if you fail to turn it off. If you want a smaller output file, then all you have to do is reduce the target data rate in HandBrake. If you are currently editing the equivalent of the iPhone file (900 Kbps) using your current work flow, then reduce the target average bit rate to 900 or 1000 Kbps before exporting from HandBrake. Basically, this approach is faster since you do not have to export the data twice. On the other hand, it is a bit more complicated since you have to manually ensure any extraneous data tracks are de-selected and that the correct compressing preset/settings are selected.

Siri has problems understanding certain names

Have Siri on my Iphone 4s and have all my contact names filled in with addresses etc. Was asking Siri to remind me when arriving at my local Market which is Albertsons and I gave it a reminder of lets say, milk cheese, steak, etc.... But it returns and tells me that it doesnt understand what I mean. So I change it to another actual person contact such as Garry Smith and it has not problem, this happened over and over with differenct store names such as Vons, Pavilions, Ralphs so I dont understand what is going on here. It has the address of the market so it would know when I arrived at the position but it only works for my people contacts in my address book. If I ask it to call the store it has no problem bringing the number up from the contact list so I was a bit puzzled by this. Anyone have any thoughts on this.??? I was just hoping to be able to use it for like a quick shopping list on the fly so when I reach the market I would not forget anything, sort of like a quick shopping list. Anyhow I have not been able to crack this problem yet.

No I dont really think it should understand everything but given the fact that it understands me when I tell it to call the contact Albersons or Ralphs or Pavillions one would think that it would understand the meaning of when I arrive at that contacts location set a reminder. Siri is very new and niave when it comes to her understanding everything and I accept that but hopefully in future updates some of the little things can be worked out. Thanks for your comment.

Inbox won't display senders names from Contacts list?

Is there a way to get the iPhone email Inbox to display the sender's name from my Contacts list when the user is on my Contact's list? As it is now, when I go to my Inbox on the iPhone, it shows a list of email addresses instead of the name's of the users, even though they are on my Contacts list. Once I click on a message and view it, then it shows the Contact List user name, but it does not show that data on the Inbox page.
Is this a bug or is there a setting to change this behavior or something else?

I'm with ya. I wonder if someone somewhere is working on an mail app that can both display names and allow us to use emoticons. Having used emoticons for years with my students, the sudden lack of them has some of them thinking I'm mad at them. Also, when I try to use the heartmark or other symbols available thru the numbers keypad, the email I send is apparently unreadable.

Shaman on Siri won't recognize a song automatically... I have to say to Siri : "What is this song playing?" And then it identifies the song ... Please help...

Ibook won't recognize certain CD-Rs (need help quick)

I used my work PC to burn a CD-R ("Corporate Express" 700MB/80 min, 52x compatible). The disc includes a Powerpoint presentation and a few jpegs. My iBook sounds like it's trying to read it but nothing pops up in the Finder or Desktop. I see an un-named 35MB file in the Disc Utilities area but can't access anything. Assuming the disc is fine, is this a Windows/Mac compatibility issue or a Mac/CD compatibility issue ? Anything I can do?

2. Which version is the Mac using?
3. Can the CD be safely ejected?
4. Can you successfully mount this CD on your PC?
5. Can you successfully burn CDs on your iBook?
6. Can you mount various media on your iBook?
7. Have you tried various troubleshooting techniques, such as resetting the PMU, zapping PRAM, etc?
7. Is this a first occurence, or have similar things happpened in the past?
8. Which iBook model are you using, and what drive does it have?
9. What OS are you using? 10.2? 10.3? 10.4?

Will the Siri program ever have the option of recording logorythims? of how I speak so Siri begins to match them to my contacts?

I've had some difficulties with SIRI recognizing the way I pronounce several names and/or words. It's especially annoying when I'm trying to dial contacts in my Address Book. I've used some motorola phones where it will allow you to record they way I pronounce the name so when I do need to dial it in a hands free manner, it will recognize the way I say it. Instead it is very particular about how it recognizes certain names in my address book.

Well...the iPhone is not a motorola phone. Siri is essentially Nuance voice recognition technology, and is still a beta program. The feature you're describing may or may not be added in the future.

As of my update to iOS 7 on my iPhone 5, Siri seems not to be able to find my fiance in my contacts. Her name is there, and Siri recognizes her name and spells it correctly when she says, "I don't see S*** R****** in your contacts... perhaps you meant one of these?" and then delivers a list of people sharing my fiance's first name.
I also have her associated as my "girlfriend" in the contact. If I say, "call my girlfrend", Siri calls her right up. No problem.
While I could just always say "call my girlfriend", I have to assume that there's at least one more person in my contacts with which this issue will arise in the future, so I want to know how to solve it. I've reset the phone, I've deleted and re-added the contact...nothing seems to work.
Any advice?

I have this issue also. I ask Siri to call a contact, it repeats and spells the contact exactly as it is in my contacts, then says it cannot find it. This happens for multiple contacts...

I use exchange and no settings have been changed. Also siri forgets who I am once every two weeks or so and she will only remember my wife's association. Further, in the last two weeks if I asked her to email someone. She will initiate a telephone call. If is say "NO" she initiates a sms and a multitude of other intermittent problems.
I have performed a master reset and reloaded from a back up before the trouple started and the problem still exists. The problem is on the Siri side and not in my phone as they also show there ugly face on my I pad 4 synced with the cloud for contact info.
Perhaps Siri is aware that I got an Samsung Note 10.1 for Christmas. It is about the right timing.

Siri won't pronounce name correctly

Siri mispronounces my niece's name. Her name is Mia (Mee-ah) and Siri mispronounces it as Maya. Mia is the correct pronounciation of the name - Mia Farrow, Mia Hamm, Mia Wallace, Mia Kirshner, Mia Wasikowska, Mia Tyler, Mama Mia, Mia in the Princess Diaries etc etc etc. and I have never heard it pronouced as Maya so I have no idea why Siri would pronounce it wrong.
I adjusted her profile and added the field for phonetic pronounciation which works if you ask her "what is my niece's phone number" but it does NOT work when I say, "Send a message to Mia" I text her more than I call her and I would like Siri to be able to say her name correctly all of the time rather than just part of the time.
This actually irritates my niece so much that for her upcoming birthday she will be getting a cell phone and wants, "anything but an iPhone" .
My two questions are:
Does anyone know wether there is a way to correct the pronouciation of names other than added a phonetic field in the contact info?
Is there an e-mail address for someone at Apple where I can send correspondance and plead my case for having future versions or upgrades of Siri to correctly pronounce this name?

I find if I ask Siri "read new text message" on the lock screen, she replies "You do not have any new text messages", then I unlock and ask again, she has the same reply. But I have found if I unlock first, then ask her to read it, she is able to (most of the time).
So it seems kind of pointless if I have to unlock and ask her to read it, when I am already one click away from reading the message myself. So frustrating.

Siri and Dictate cannot recognize the name Tibor - phonetics seem not to help

I cannot, for the life of me, get my phone to recognize the name Tibor when I dictate. It constantly comes out "keyboard." I have put a phonetic spelling in the contact (tried several variants of "tee boar," tea-bore," etc...) but it still hears "keyboard". Even spelling seems not to help as it cannot hear the difference between my "B" and "P". Any thoughts?

Have you already confirmed your Mac as a trusted device? Try this:
Lauch iTunes.
Connect the Phone/iPad
When it asks you to trust it, say yes.
Now try again to import.
