Sirius radio on a mac

I subscribe to sirius radio, and was able to play it over my dell pc's, which I have since given away.
I tried streaming it through my mac, but got one message saying that safari isnt supported, and that I should try windows media player. I downloaded that, than tried streaming sirius again through that program, only to get a second message from WMP that " the file format is not supported". Any suggestions?

Why don't you simply download one of the apps for listening to Sirius? You'll find them at VersionTracker or MacUpdate.

  • Listening to XM and/or Sirius Radio Streams on iPhone

Hey everyone! I did a little research today, and found an easy (relatively) way to listen to XM or Sirius radio on the iPhone. First off, this is NOT a hack, and requires no installs on the iPhone. All this requires is a Windows PC (sorry, mac-users...I have a mac too, but my wife has a PC, so I used hers), an Orb account (free), Windows Media Player and a program called UXM. Again, this is not a hack, just a way for iPhone users to enjoy XM. (I do not take responsibility for anything anyone does, as the following instructions were not written by me. I have taken them from everythingiphone.com, and all rights etc. belong to them) cheers! It works well, not really ideal but its a start.
"Things you will need to get started.
    1. An xm subscription
    2. uXM from http://www.millardsoftware.com/
    3. Orb server from orb.com
    4. An iPhone
Download an install uXM (to the PC). Click the settings button and enter your email address and password you use to stream xm online.
    Click start.
Download and install the orb server (again, PC). Part of the install process will help you create an orb account. Once you have uXM and orb running on your PC (I could not get this to work in parallels on my mac) go back to the orb.com on your PC and sign in/orb 2.0.
    Click Open Application.
    Click Audio.
Click Favorite Channels under internet radio.
Click the 'add custom' link that is on the top of the page.
Type in the xm channel name.
Double click the uXM logo in your tray (next to the clock) and click the URLS button. Choose the xm channel you want to stream from the pull down menu.
    Click the clipboard button.
Return to the orb website and paste the url in the url field.
    Click save.
Now get out your iPhone and go to orb.com and sign in.
    Click Audio.
    Click Internet Radio Favorites.
Click the channel icon for the channel you just saved.
    Click play.
Click the small play arrow in the lower right corner of the QT screen.
Your stream should start. Mine seems to hung up at about 11 seconds. I just hit the back arrow and click play again and it work fine.
Wash, rinse, repeat for your other favorite xm channels."
Again, to repeat myself, this is not a hack, nor does it violate the iPhone's warranty, etc. It uses safari's quicktime plugin, that's it!
Note: For Sirius users, the UXM website millardsoftware has a Sirius application as well. Just follow the same steps, but on the sirius app. I don't have Sirius, so I don't know how well it works.

Did you try XM or Sirius? I was able to set up every XM station (except for the sports stations, they aren't available) and give it a thumbnail image like those on the XMRadio Online service. It looks really nice. Plus, with the Orb program (I had never even heard of it until today) you can store playlists of music and stream them from your computer, or listen to other internet radio stations a la the itunes radio stations. Its a lot like DotTunes, but free, so ya know...I haven't tried the other features besides the XM radio. Let me know if anyone else gets this to work. I'd like to think that, ultimately, XM or Sirius would make a Safari plugin that's a little more fancy than this, or maybe Apple will let them have a pretty little icon. Someday...

  • How do I connect sirius radio to my xnv660bt

I need help connecting my sirius radio to my xnv660bt. Sony says the head unit is compatible with the sirius hardware but after hours of trying everything, including replacing the Sirius SCC1 tuner and the SNYSC1 interface, talking to sirius tech support (worthless) and Sony tech support ( a bit less than worthless) I have no sirius radio. When I turn the HU on and go to the sourse list, I get a  sirius "button" but when I select it the next screen says "SR3" but I get no sound. All cables are correctly connected, at least accordiing to 3 professional installers. Other customer boards seem to point toward the problem being a Sony issue with several of their radios. Anyone else have the same experience and have any thoughts?

I understand you already contacted our technical support about this. Have you tried resetting the car stereo? You may also check the troubleshooting steps found here.

  • After I sign into my account @ Sirius Radio and select music , I want to goto another website. My connection with Sirius then is cancelled. What do I do to stay connected while surfing?

Sirius Radio advises me that I can stay connected and listen to music while I surf. But normally I can't. It's interesting to note that when I've gone to this Help page, Sirius has remained connected. I am now thoroughly confused. I will now move to another site and confirm my problem. ( or not )

  • TS5181 I have Sirius radio and I tag a song which says Itunes tags successfully downloaded, what does it mean?

I have Sirius radio in my car.when I like a song it allows me to tag it and gives me a message on the radio that "I Tunes Tag is successfully downloaded" Where it is downloading to? I cannot find these songs

To set the Date & Time go to System Preferences->Date & Time. Uncheck the Set date and time automatically box if it is checked and set the date to before the date in the message.
As for safety I have had to do this when installing old versions of Aperture Apples photo program and have not had any problems I would recommend you close all  non-essential apps while doing this to minimize any weirdness. Also if you are running TM (or another backup program) I'd recommend turning those off while you do this.
Once you are done installing the software recheck the box if it was checked and the date and time should reset to today.. if not you can set them manually.
    regards

  • Playing Sirius Radio on iPhone

    Hello,
I have a Sirius radio account in my car and also have it on my PC and iPhone.
I can pull up the sirius page and enter the name and password, and it even shows that it is playing, but I cannot hear it. When I stick the ear buds in, all I get is music from my ipod.
Does anyone know how to get around that so I can listen to satilite radio on my iPhone?
    Thanks

You don't hear any audio because there is no Windows Media plugin for Safari mobile.
The only workaround currently is using a combination of uSirius and Orb. This workaround requires you keep a PC running at home to manage the streams.

  • Going crazy!!!  trouble with flip4mac / quick time / Sirius radio streaming

ok... back in June I posted on here that I was unable to listen to Sirius streaming on the internet with my new Macbook. Thanks to somoene's advice I was able to download stuffit expander, and use Windows Media Player through Safari.
Then the other day, somehow I ended up downloading Flip4Mac since they now have the universal binary one out and ever since then I cannot get my sirius to stream anymore!!!
    I have tryed everything:
-I uninstalled flip4mac and went back to my "old way" of listening to it, and windows meadia player would open, but then do/play nothing!
-I have tried checking the box to open it with rosetta and that does not work either.
-I have tried using Rosetta with both windows media player AND flip4mac downloaded
-I have tried using Rosetta and uninstalling the windows meadia player and just using flip for mac.
    - And I have tried all of the above without using Rosetta...
Now, I have just flip4mac installed and with Rosetta or without, not it just tells me that "the url is invalid."
And it never worked well in Firefox (always says an "unknown" plug-in is missing, so I don't even bother with that, I always just used Safari)
Can anyone PLEASE help me figure out how I screwed this up, and how to get my radio back on!!!
    Thanks!!

I have been listening to Sirius online for months now - with no problems - until today. Sirius just re-did all their software and now people can pay for a subscription to Sirius online, without actually owning a radio. I believe our problem lies within all of the recent changes and updates they have made. They have also updated their FAQ page on the player, and (as of Monday) it now says:
    2. What are the hardware and software requirements for the media player?
To listen to our music channels online, we recommend a high bandwidth internet connection (T1, DSL or ISDN line, or a cable modem), Windows Media Player version 6.0 or higher, and either Netscape 7.x or Internet Explorer 5.5 or higher. Unfortunately, we are unable to fully support other browsers at this time.
I wrote Customer Service and asked them if there is a work-around for all Mac users with Safari or Firefox, so we'll see what they say. Hopefully this is something that can be fixed, since my day seems to go by pretty slowly without Howard Stern =)
Please let me know if you find anything out, and I'll do the same.

  • Radio App in Mac OS?

Why is there no built-in radio apps that comes with Mac OS software?

    You mean like iTunes????
If you don't have an Internet Radio tab, open iTunes Preferences, General tab, and select Internet Radio. Then, in the Music section, there will be an Internet tab where you can choose a station.
If your station isn't listed, you can add it with the Open Stream… command in the File menu.

  • I don't have iTunes Radio on my Mac

I have a Mac OSX 10.6.8 and iTunes 11.1.1 and live in the US. When I go into my Music Library, I do not see an option for Radio. I see Songs - Albums - Artists - Genres - Videos - Internet - Match. Am I looking in the right place? I think I have looked in all possible places for it but I must be missing something.

I've got it on my Mac. It on the right hand corner of iTunes and it's a link. When I click on iTunes Radio nothing happens, probably because it's only a feature in iTunes 11 and I'm on 10.7 so therefore it doesn't work but I prefer to stay at 10.7

  • Running an Internet Radio Station on Mac OS X

    Hello Apple and Folks:
We are planning on running a radio/broadcast system using Shoutcast/Icecast streams from servers, local content and then converging them into a playout system to re-transmit to satellite uplinks and other platforms accessible via the Internet.
Do you know of a software that runs on Mac OS X and can handle this type of process. It would need have a playlist option to bring in other streams at the pre-determined time and also play stuff on the local server machine (Mac OS X) as well as provide automation, etc. I know there is software out there to do this on Windoze, but I would like to stick with a more solid OS since this system will eventually be a 24/7 operation.
    Thanks for any input/direction!
    Kevin

  • Asking again:  how to get live internet radio on the mac actually be live??

The software on my mac seems to treat certain audio broadcasts as podcasts rather than live broadcasts so that when it finishes a clip, it restarts it and plays it again. Is there a way to actually get the mac to play broadcasts as live and not keep recycling a broadcast as a clip?

    Where are you playing from?
    iTunes Radio? or a website?
From websites. The problem doesn't seem to happen when I use iTunes but it doesn't seem that every station's internet can be opened through iTunes. Or is there a way in fact to do that?
