Site Definitions won't save

I am using Dreamweaver 8/WIN on an XP machine and the
username and password will not save in the site definition
dialog.....no matter how many times I create it from scratch or
enter it and click the save button. This is a new occurence and is
driving me batty. Has this happened to anyone else? Is there a fix
for this? Is there an update I do not have? This is very
frustrating and a time waster? HELP PLEEZE!

  • Lost Site Definitions

    Hi All,
Using Dreamweaver CS3 & Mac OS 10.4.11, so no Time Machine
Opened DW this morning and ALL site definitions gone. Have some of them backed up to .ste so can recover them easily, only about 25% though.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

Yes, check the Dreamweaver FAQ. You'll be surprised what you can find in there. You're in luck because you're on a Mac. Windows users who fail to export their site definitions won't be so fortunate.

  • Site Editor : can't save changes

When I save edited pages in the Site Editor (incontext editing), I get the message:
"There was a communication error with the server. Your internet connection may not be working or the server might not respond"
The one page site was created and uploaded from Dreamweaver with no problems.
    OSX 10.8
    Safari 5.2
    Thanks for the help,

    Hi:
I'm back... The Site Editor won't save again. Apparently, I have malformed characters on my site.
What's a malformed character? Am I creating them? Make them stop!
    Thanks.

  • Mac: lost MX 04 site definitions

    Hi, all,
Thought I'd try to do a better job of explaining what my
issue is. In DW MX 2004, on my Mac G5, I removed and replaced my
preferences and library files to fix a problem Apple was helping me
with. In the process, I lost all of my DW site definitions. I have
the old prefs and library files and have put back everything that
looks Dreamweaver-ish, but the site defs are still missing when I
    launch DW.
Is there a file or two that contains these definitions, or am
    I stuck re-creating them?
    Thanks!

  • To decide save site as a template, web template or site definition

    hi,
I have to create a generic site template which has few tabs in the home page and on click of these links/tabs
in this site template it will navigate to the sub sites created under that[this generic site template shud contain 3 sub sites -
[1 blog, 1 search center sub site, meeting workspace as tabs in the site template’s top navigation] and
    a) 2 Doc Libs
    b) 2 splists by default present in this site template [ most prob. its a team site template]
What should be the correct approach for creating this site template:
I have thought of implementing using:
     a) save site as a template and upload this wsp into the solution gallery. and based on this site template
i will create new subsites. one problem i will be facing is that, mine is a publishing site template not team site template.
     b) create a  web template having the above subsites and doc libs and splists
     c) last option is to create a  site definition [ complex ]
which one should i choose, assuming that, there would be future changes from customer side in the
site template.like, adding a new splist, sp doclic or a new custom web part.
in that case, adding a new addtion to the already existing site template will not affect/reflect the already running
    sites' content.
only those new sites which is created  based on the updated site template would be having the new additions
    implemented.
      help is highly appreciated.

    Hi,
From your description, the most concern you might have is that customers will have the requirements to add other components into their sites and created with them afterwards.
Since SharePoint 2010, it is recommended to take use of something like “a la carte” pattern to manage SharePoint sites. If there are needs to add sites, lists or other components,
we can make them as solution(.wsp) and deploy to our sites. By doing this, we will be more flexible and easier to manage the features and structure of sites.
So you can just create a site template with simple structure and deploy the solutions you want after sites created.

  • Dreamweaver CS6 will not recognize existing site definition files

Neither does CC, naturally.  These are sites I haven't edited for about a year. I can't find any information about reloading sites by importing the contents, only by opening the STE files... which in this case, won't open.

Are you attempting to simply open the .ste, or are you going to Site > Manage Sites > Import?
If you are tring to import them correctly (second option above) and they aren't importing, the .ste files may be corrupt. To create new site definitions from your existing content...
    1. Go to Site > New Site
    2. For the "Local Site Folder" browse to one of your current site folders on your HD
    3. Add a server and FTP credentials obtained from your hosting company (if you don't have them)
    4. Save
    5. Repeat for each site
EDIT: If you don't have the site's files locally, do the same as above (setting the local site folder to an empty folder on your HD) and, once you add the FTP info, click the Get button (down arrow) in the Files window to download your entire site onto your machine.

  • Backing up and restoring site definitions

Losing your site definitions in Dreamweaver can be a disaster, but it does happen sometimes. The best way to prepare for such an eventuality is to back up your site definitions on a regular basis.
    Creating a backup
You can back up all your site definitions in a single operation by selecting Site > Manage Sites. In the dialog box that opens, Shift-click to select all site names, and then click Export.
In Dreamweaver CS6, the Manage Sites dialog box looks like this:
In earlier versions of Dreamweaver, it looks like this:
Dreamweaver asks if you want to include passwords and login details (this is the default option). Whichever option you choose will be applied to all sites, so click Cancel if you want to treat some sites separately, and export your sites in two sets by using Ctrl/Cmd-click to select them.
When you click OK, Dreamweaver asks where you want to export the definitions. Navigate to a suitable location, leave the File name field unchanged, and click Save. Although only one site name is listed in the File name field, Dreamweaver exports all the site definitions as .ste files in a single operation.
NOTE: This process backs up only the details of your sites, such as the location of the root folder, FTP details, and so on. It does not back up the actual files in your site, such as .html (or .php, .asp, .cfm) files, images, and style sheets. It's a good idea to use your normal file backup routine on your actual files from time to time, as well as exporting the site definitions.
    Restoring site definitions
In the event of losing your site definitions in Dreamweaver or moving to a new computer, open the Manage Sites dialog box, and use the Import button to navigate to your backup .ste files.
    What if I don't have a backup?
Often, if you don't have a backup of .ste files, you need to go through the whole process of re-entering the details for each site manually.
However, you might be able to restore them by using a restore point on Windows or Time Machine in Mac OS X.
On Windows, the site definitions for Dreamweaver CS6 are stored in the Windows Registry at HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Common\12.0\Sites.
In Mac OS X, they are at Macintosh HD:<username>:Library:Application Support:Adobe:Common:12.0:Sites:Site Prefs.
In recent versions of Mac OS X, the Library folder is hidden. In the Mac Finder, select Go > Go to Folder, type ~/Library in the search field, and click Go.
Dreamweaver CS5.5 site definitions are in the same location, except use 11.5 instead of 12.0. The numbers for CS4 and CS3 are 10 and 9 (without a decimal fraction) respectively. For earlier versions of Dreamweaver, substitute Macromedia for Adobe, and adjust the number accordingly.
If you don't have a backup of the actual files on your site, download the files from your remote server.

    Hello,
We are running iPlanet 5.2 Messaging Server and need
to migrate to another (duplicate) 5.2 Messaging
Server. We have all the software installed and the
LDAP user accounts created. Now we just need to move
the existing mail from one server to the other.
I found the Backing Up and Restoring the Message
Store section in the Admin Guide says to back up and
restore your data, Messaging Server provides the
    imsbackup and imsrestore utilities.
However I am wondering about the Queue?
    Under <instance>/imta/queue
What is the difference between the Message Store
and the Queue? The Message Store is where messages get delivered to, so you can read them.'
The queue is where messages are temporarily stored, pending delivery to wherever they go.
You can use tar, cpio, or what have you for the queue. Stop the server first. . .
You then just restore the files to the new server. No need to restart or anything like that. Just dump the files in, and run
    imsimta cache -sync
to tell the MTA to re-read the queue.
Can I just backup and restore the
    Queue using tar or cpio?
Thanks in advance for any advice.
    Regards,
    Tim

  • Voice Memos won't save my recordings?

I'm in college so I usually record my classes for further detailing, but I just recently discovered that Voice Memos just won't save my recordings like 2/5 of the time. I already lost like 4 important ones for the past 3 days.
The thing is that I see it recording, but it just doesn't save it, and it's just sitting there at 00:00:00 with the name tag I had put. I want to die.

    - Does you iTunes library already contain a Voice Memos playlist?  Some users have had to manually create it in order for the sync to occur.
    - Also try resetting your iPod. Nothing will be lost.
Reset iPod touch:  Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

My iPhone 4 is severely making me mad. It won't save any pictures I take. I will take the picture, then go to view it in the Camera Roll, and it just won't be there. The same thing occurs when screen shotting things on my iPhone. Some times it won't even let me delete the existing pictures I had on my phone before this all happened. I will click delelte, then it will pause, and eventually close me out of the photos app. However, when I go to settings, it says I have 440MB of pictures on here somewhere. But I can oly see 3 pictures in the camera roll. Also, it says in the camera roll app that it is 'Restoring...' then just sits and loads and won't restore anything at all. HELP ME PLEASE. • PDF won't save to computer

I download several financial statements in PDF each month and two of them, though enabled, will not allow themselves to be saved to my computer. They can be viewed, printed and edited but clicking on the save icon does nothing. The'Save to:' pop-up does not appear. I'm running Windows 7 x64 and have the most current version of reader (9.4.1). Has anyone seen this before???

    Hi,
Yes indeed, we have the same issue. After further research, I ran across this workaround that worked for me. Of course it does not solve the Adobe problem, but it does allow for saving a PDF that does not want to be saved while opened in IE (I’m using 8). Here is a copy of the workaround.
Of course the question remains – what is the problem and why do we have to use this workaround – very strange. Must be a compatibility issue with certain website, win 7, IE 8 and Adobe. The problem site for me was Chase.com. I called their online rep and they had know ideas.  Hope the workaround works for you.
Here is the link where I found the workaround.

    Hey Reepercheep,
Just a note...  I have been experiencing this problem with one of my accounts since back in Reader version 8.x. The second account only started paperless before Christmas. I was willing to put up with it from one group but two with the same problem broke the camel's back (it started to become a trend!). Hopefully someone has found the magic bullit to solve this. • 7.2 won't save artwork, where can I get previous version of iTunes?

iTunes 7.2 won't save any new artwork. When I press the 'Add' button in the Artwork window, I can select a .jpg file, it displays in the Artwork window, but NOT in the Selected Item window. If I return to the Artwork window immediately it's empty. None of my existing artwork seems to be affected.
I want to download a previous version of iTunes, but all I can find is 7.2. Can anybody help?

go to downloads.com or versiontracker.com or a download site for apple products and download it there

  • How do I manually recreate the site definition (.ste) for an existing site?

My iMac hard drive recently failed and had to be replaced.
Though I had backed up my web site files, I don't have a backup of the site's Site Management (*.ste) file.
Thus, I'm unable to manage this site in Dreamweaver (reinstalled on the new hard drive).
In some forum threads, there are references to "manually recreating the site definition." How do I do this?
    Thanks!

    paintwlight wrote the following:
Does Putting the site to the remote server constitute an Export, whereby a .ste file would have been created during the Put process and, therefore, exist on the remote server?
No. Hit F1 and search for Export.
If so, I assume that if I copy the .ste file currently on the remote server and save it locally (into Library:Application Support:Adobe:Common:9:Sites:Site Prefs), all will be well and Dreamweaver will once again be able to manage the site.
DW can manage the site after you have defined the site as mentioned
earlier. It does not need the .ste files at all. Those are created by
the user via the Export feature and are not used by DW itself.
Gosh, I wish I would have known about the .ste file before my hard drive died. This seems like way too much responsibility to put on one teeny tiny little file -- especially one that's not kept with the rest of the web site files.
The .ste file contains only the paths to your site and the login
information - if you choose to include that information. It does not
contain any of the actual files. DW does not act as a backup or archival
program. You need to keep backups of your entire site (including source
files used to create the site, such as Photoshop/Fireworks layered
images, Flash .fla files, etc...) as well as backups of the .ste files.

  • Can I store my Dreamweaver site definitions on an external drive?

I just purchased 2 brand new iMacs (one for office and one for home) to replace my old MacBook Pro. I am now moving all of my client files to an extranal hard drive so that I can share the same exact files in both locations. I just realized it won't be that easy with Dreamweaver because of the site definitions, which are stored locally on the computer.
Is there a way for me to move and store site definitions of the external hard drive. If so, can you provide detailed instructions on how to do this. I am paranoid about losing important data!
I am also assuming that Dreamweaver looks in a specific place for site definitions, so I'll need to 'train' it to look on my external hard drive to find them (if that's even possible).
Thank you SO much, in advance!
    Jackie

I think the OP was wondering if there could just be a single location that held the site definitions andnthat both computers would read when DW was launched on either machine to populate the site list.
Just clarifying the question, but that can't be done so Nancy's instructions are what needs to be done. Each computer will maintain it's own list of defs, but being able to export and import makes it a little easier.  Part of my workflow when setting up a site involves making an immediate export of the site def in a location that is being backed up. I also keep another secure file of FTP info as an added layer - just because there was ne particular web host that included special characters in the UserID, which did not retain in the site definition.  I don't mind having to do this, but I wish you could export the entire list and not have to do one at a time.

  • IWeb won't save work in Lion.

    Hello,
I've been using iWeb for a cuple of years, and have been creating quite a few web sites by now.
Recently, i switched to Lion, and saved my Domain file from Leopard, to the fresh new copy of Lion.
But now, in Lion, iWeb won't save my work/changes.
I've modified a site 4 times allready. As usual, i used Cmd+S and/or File>Save in order to consrve my work before the actual publishing to the MobileMe Domain. When I modify and publish my web site, the changes are present on the online version, but after i quit the application, everything comes back to the old version of the web site in iWeb. it doesn's matter whether I save or my work with Cmd+S or File>Save, nothing works. Everytime I have to start from the old version of the web site and modify everything again.
Has anyone encountered this problem and can she/he provide a solution for it?
Thake you very much for your time!

No, I have only one Domain file. Inside this Domain file, there are 2 sites. But for the past year it has been the same, and it worked well under Snow Leopard.
The Domain file (saved from Snow Leopard), i copied it to Users/user_name/Library/Application Support/iWeb. Of course, I overwrote the existing one (the sample one that comes with iWeb by default).
As far as I know, this should be the wright place to put it. Proof is that after installing Lion and putting the Domain file in the above named folder, iWeb recognized the Domain file and showed me my 2 web sites.
So i guess the problem doesn't come from here. It must be something different...

  • Backing up Site Definitions in Ultradev 1.0

I'm finally going to upgrade, but I have a lot of Site
    Definitions in Dreamweaver Ultradev 1.0.
Is there a way to backup and transfer Site Definitions from
Ultradev 1.0 to the latest Dreamweaver on a new PC?
I did find a few utilities but none that support backing up
from the old Ultradev 1.0 version.

    Good idea....
