Site doesn't show up despite publishing through iWeb

I'm publishing my site to an outside server with IWeb, and though the files are showing up on the server itself, when I attempt to access it from a browser, I constantly get a 404 error. Don't understand why, as all files show in in cpanel.
Am using bluehost.
Thanks for the help!
Chris

I am still having this issue. I am pretty sure you are right about my site being forwarded (it is) but I am not with GoDaddy. I am with 1 and 1 hosting and they have checked out the issue and informed me that they can't do anything.
If you are using Safari, my site loads as a white page.
It also only seems to happen in Safari. Does anyone else have this problem using internet services other than GoDaddy? I am running out of options, other than the possibilty of not being able to forward my url.... which makes no sense.

  • Publish through Iweb SEO only?

    I just was told on RAGE forum that I should only publish through Iweb SEO tool after installing google analytics. This was after i reinstalled it yesterday, and it appeared to be gone today. He said it went away because I published changes in my site throug I web. I had analytics on there for a couple months previously , publishing through Iweb, didn't seem to effect it. Is this accurate?

    Every time you publish changes to your site you should open it in iWeb SEO Tool and click the "Re-Apply Saved Tags" button.
    The tags are added to the html files after publishing to a local folder so, if you publish any changes direct from iWeb, these tags will be missing from those html files that are uploaded as the original info will be overwritten.
    After doing this I then optimize my files for faster download using either Web Site Maestro or WebCrusher and use the optimizer app to upload the changed files only.

  • I changed web hosts and can't publish through iWeb SEO Tool or Rage Site Map Automator. Do I need to delete the old site map?

    I switched to iPage hosting since Mobile Me is expiring. Also recently upgraded to OS X 10.7.3 and am using iWeb 3.0.4 for my web site design. I published directly to the FTP from iWeb but all title tags, meta tags have disappeared and I'm not showing up in Google or others. I tried publishing from iWeb SEO but it couldn't complete the process.
    Should I first publish to a folder as I did before with Mobile Me, then delete all old sitemaps and start over with the Site Map Automator and then try to publish from the SEO tool? Will I lose the key words and meta tags that are already in iWeb SEO?
    Thanks!

    The problem is that most tech support people don't understand how iWeb structures a site.
    When a visitor types in "domain-name-com" the browser expects to find an index.html in the root folder on the server. In "normal" websites the index.html file is the first page of the site.
    The iWeb index.html file is a redirect to the first, or landing, page of the site which is the one at the top of the left column in iWeb just below the site name.
    iWeb produces two index.html files.
    One is outside of the folder containing the rest of the files and directs to - folder-name/home-page-name.html
    The other one is inside the folder and directs to - home-page-name.html
    You have two choices of how you upload the files since you are publishing to a local folder.
    You can upload the whole folder plus the external index.html to the root folder on the server and the URL to any page will be...
    http://www.domain-name.com/site-name/page-name.html
    If you upload the contents of the site folder, and not the folder or the external index.html, the URL will be...
    http://www.domain-name.com/page-name.html
    See this page for more info and the warning about breaking the RSS feed....

  • Banner on wordpress site doesn't show in safari

    On my Wordpress site I have added a banner from an external link to be displayed on my frontpage. After saving it doesn't show the banner in Safari (but it does show it in Chrome and someone externally tested and said it showed in Explorer; so the html code must be right). The weird thing is it does show the image of the banner in the Snippet Editor. Anyone has an idea what causes this or how to fix this, I want all Safari users out there to be able to see and click on the banner as well!

    Some browsers are far more forgiving of errors than Safari, and not everything works the same way in different browsers.
    If the image is visible when you use Safari - Develop menu - Disable Styles, then it's presumably a CSS problem that only shows in Safari.
    Do test with all Safari extensions switched off, since they can have unexpected results.

  • My site doesn't show in the site listing sidebar

    According to iWeb help, "Your websites are stored in one file called “Domain” on your computer. You can copy this file to another computer as a backup or to work on your site from another location."
    When I open the file I've always opened to work on my site, called Domain.sites2, I am brought to the "choose a template for your webpage" window in iWeb.
    In the site listing in the sidebar, where I used to see my site listed, I see only one item, "Site," with a downward pointing arrow next to it. If I choose a template for my page just so I can get out of the dialog, I see "Welcome" Listed under "Site" in the site listing pane, but still not my site. Of course the main layout pane doesn't show my site either.
    When I close out without saving and preview the Domain.sites2 file with QuickLook, it shows a thumbnail of the site I am trying to access. The filesize is 6.4 MB. I tried using Time Machine to restore a version of Domain.sites2 from last year, but when opened, that also doesn't show my site in the site listing sidebar.
    How do I access my site?

    In Lion and Mt Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
    To open your domain file in Lion or to switch between multiple domain files Cyclosaurus has provided us with the following script that you can make into an Applescript application with Script Editor. Open Script Editor, copy and paste the script below into Script Editor's window and save as an application.
    do shell script "/usr/bin/defaults write com.apple.iWeb iWebDefaultsDocumentPath -boolean no"delay 1
    tell application "iWeb" to activate
    You can download an already compiled version with this link: iWeb Switch Domain.
    Just launch the application, find and select the domain file you want to open and it will open with iWeb. It modifies the iWeb preference file each time it's launched so one can switch between domain files.
    WARNING: iWeb Switch Domain will overwrite an existing Domain.sites2 file if you select to create a new domain in the same folder.  So rename your domain files once they've been created to something other than the default name.

  • Failure to launch - can't publish through iweb

    HELP!!!!!!! Neiter the genius bar nor the .mac support can help with the following: I'm a .mac account holder and can't seem to publish my website through iweb. Every time I hit publish, the system asks me to log in with my mac user name and password which I do and my existence as a .mac account holder and the matching password is validated promptly. Then, nothing happens, my site doesn't publish. :-((( Every time I hit publish I have to go through the same drill of signing in without result - I'm ready to scream!!!!!

    I can't recall a specific fix for your problem, although I have heard of other people experiencing this. Want to try something anyway?
    Try reinstalling the iWeb 1.1.1 update right over what you have installed there. Download the full update from Apple from this location...

  • Site doesn't show up in ie!

    Hi!
    I hope someone can help me.  I have been making websites for a little while and been mainly using free css based templates to get my designs started.  For the first time I decided to start from scratch using one of Dream Weavers standard templates - 2 Column Fixed with Header and Footer.
    I thought I was doing great and have been checking progress in Firefox and Chrome and that was great so I was just about done when I checked in IE and found the site was not displayed at all - only the background was visable.
    In the header of the template is this -
    <link href="style.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" media="all" />
    <style type="text/css">
    <!--[if IE 5]>
    <style type="text/css">
    /* place css box model fixes for IE 5* in this conditional comment */
    .twoColFixLtHdr #sidebar1 { width: 230px; }
    .style1 {font-size: small}
    </style>
    <![endif]-->
    <!--[if IE]>
    <style type="text/css">
    /* place css fixes for all versions of IE in this conditional comment */
    .twoColFixLtHdr #sidebar1 { padding-top: 30px; }
    .twoColFixLtHdr #mainContent { zoom: 1; }
    /* the above proprietary zoom property gives IE the hasLayout it needs to avoid several bugs */
    </style>
    <![endif]-->
    If I remove these instructions (obviously leaving the css link at the top in tact) then the site shows up but it cannot link to the style sheet.
    I have tried replacing the above with other [if IE] instructions for the style sheet, even creating a new one just for ie but it still doesn't work.
    My site can be found at http://www.22brondeg.net23.net/index.html.  I have put it all back as it originally was so that my fiddlings haven't made things even more complicated. I am sure the fix is really simple but I just can't see it.
    I hope someone can help me out as I am going slightly crazy now!  Thanks in advance

    Hi
    I have checked my site again this morning and it is back up and running.  However I am still having the same IE issues.  What is particularly strange is that my friend and I both use IE8 and on her computer the site shows fine but on mine it doesn't link to the stylesheet?  The link to the site is http://www.22brondeg.net23.net/index.html.
    I have removed the below code from the index header and second page header so you can see for yourself but have left subsequent pages with the code in tact showing my original problem (ie the site not showing up at all).  I would like this site to be as universally visible as possible so getting this sorted asap would be great.
    <style type="text/css">
    <!--[if IE 5]>
    <style type="text/css">
    /* place css box model fixes for IE 5* in this conditional comment */
    .twoColFixLtHdr #sidebar1 { width: 230px; }
    .style1 {font-size: small}
    </style>
    <![endif]--><!--[if IE]>
    <style type="text/css">
    /* place css fixes for all versions of IE in this conditional comment */
    .twoColFixLtHdr #sidebar1 { padding-top: 30px; }
    .twoColFixLtHdr #mainContent { zoom: 1; }
    /* the above proprietary zoom property gives IE the hasLayout it needs to avoid several bugs */
    </style>
    <![endif]-->
    Thanks in advance...again!

  • ToDO List doesn't show up on published calendar?HELP NEEDED

    I'm new to iCal. I've checked off the correct box to publish Alarms and ToDo List. When I view the published calendar in a Safari window, I can't see the ToDo list anywhere....all I see is the Calendar and "This Month's Events" at the bottom of the page. I want to be able to view the ToDo list via the web, but how?
    Thanks

    The .Mac webview of calendars only supports appointments, not tasks. Your tasks are actually published, so if anyone subscribes with iCal, they could see the tasks, but the browser doesn't display them. If you have access to a server to run a custom web calendar app, you could try phpicalendar. This works on the same principle as the .Mac server & parses the iCalendar file for display in a web page. It does support task display.

  • Site Doesn't Show Up In Safari

    I am having a bit of an issue. I built my site in iWeb, with no problems. I then published my site using .Mac, again experiencing no problems. My site was up and running for months with no real issues.
    Suddenly, my site can't be viewed in Safari. The page loads up, and all you see is a white screen. If you click the blank screen, my site appears. Then click on a link... and you get a white screen again. Only if you click on a totally blank white screen will the page appear. It does this only in Safari. I can view my site fine in Firefox and Explorer.

    Can anyone help or maybe throw a few suggestions my way?
    Much appreciated!

  • AirPlay doesn't show videos or photos through iPad  2)

    Having just bought iPad 2, I then replaced my original Apple TV with the new model because I wanted to use AirPlay. But find I can only play music on my TV, music-only for YouTube videos and no AirPlay icon on photos. How do I use AirPlay through iPad? So far it seems I have wasted my money in buying newest Apple TV.

    If AirPlay doesn't seem to be working like it should from an iOS device (this happened to me yesterday morning), try taking these steps:
    1) Be sure that your iOS devices and your computer(s) running iTunes are all connected to the same local network.
    2) Restart the Apple TV 2 device by disconnecting its power cable and then reconnecting it.
    3) Restart your local network router.
    4) Restart your iOS device by holding down the On/Off button until the power off option appears, turn it off, and then turn it on again.

  • Video (mp4) Doesn't Show-up After Published

    Hi
    Video (in MP4) plays well before published. BUT, after Publishing, the VIDEO Clip disappeared, BUT audio is still playing.
    What happened?
    Note: mp4 is reference in my Excel file, and saved in users\...\Videos\xxx.mp4 folder
    PK Hong

    Hi
    Instead of using If(ThisPicture="C:\User\..|ABC.JOG, Navigate,....), I used this IF (which I used before):
    If(Not(IsBlank(ColumnContainsVideoLink), Navigate...OR UpdateContext({VarVideo})...then it works even after Publishing.
    SO, it can still work but BUG shall be resolved when referring to PICTURE.
    Hope this will provide some info to MSFT for future improvement.

  • Playbar doesn't show up on published projects with slidelets.

    Hi,
    I have a new issue with Captivate 6, slidelets, and the widget hide slidelet close widget. The playbar no longet shows as soon as you get to a screen with a slidelet. Or, maybe the playbar no longer shows because of some other issue wth CP 6? Has anyone had a similar issue?
    Thanks,
    Gillian
    Also,
    Chris Dorna is looking into the widget problems with CP6. He emailed me this morning and said widgets work different in CP6 that previous versions. No where does Adobe let us know though.

    Are you sure that widget has been updated by Chris for version 6? The difference for widget API that occurred in CP6 has been known since long. Be sure to check if a widget has been upgraded,

  • Report works fine in VS2010 but simply doesn't show when published

    Problem:
    Crystal Report works fine in VS 2010 but doesn't show when published to web-server, there is no error, it simply doesn't show.
    Background:
    Installed VS2010 on a freshly installed and fully updated (.net 4.0 is included in the updates) windows server 2003 box with production release Crystal Report 2010. Nothing else is on the server.  IIS 6 is running.  My web-server and VS2010 is on the same box.
    I went ahead and created a new asp.net 4.0 web project called webapplication1. Thereafter, i put a few controls (text-boxes, list-boxes and so on)  on the default.aspx page. Then i created a report.aspx page. This page will have the crystal report viewer on it. I went ahead and set the report up without much hassle (got how-to's from the internet).  I successfully tested my web app with the built-in testing server, the beautiful crystal report presented exactly what i asked it to. There was one recurring "Sys.Application is null or not an object" hiccup that occured every time during testing when i navigated from the default.aspx page to the report.aspx page (the page the report is on). Clicking ignore or continue  on the dialogue box that comes up because of the hiccup will allow testing to continue.  Here's a screen-shot of this recurring hiccup.
    http://i440.photobucket.com/albums/qq122/ricom_19/Testing-Error.jpg
    As i've shown, testing went great, except for the hiccup. I now moved to setup a publish profile. Since my web-server and VS2010 is on the same box this seemed relatively straight forward. All the files went over except the report, i.e. crystalreport1.rpt  file. I solved this by  setting the build action to 'Content' in the CrystalReport1.rpt properties. I did a republish. Now i have all my files, see screenshot: [http://i440.photobucket.com/albums/qq122/ricom_19/Application-Home-Directory.jpg], on the web-server.
    I proceeded to try to browse to my app from another computer on my network. This was successful until i tried to navigate to the report.aspx page that the crystal report is on. The the report.aspx page loaded but the crystal report was simply not on it. No errors, not even the hiccup from testing occured. Its as if the crystal report viewer was never on the page to begin with. Only when i right clicked on the page and 'view source'  did i see some remnants of the crystal report viewer.
    Here is the Report.aspx page when tested in VS2010:
    [http://i440.photobucket.com/albums/qq122/ricom_19/successful-Test.jpg|http://i440.photobucket.com/albums/qq122/ricom_19/successful-Test.jpg]
    Here is the Report.aspx page when published to the web-server and browsed to from another computer on the network:
    [http://i440.photobucket.com/albums/qq122/ricom_19/Reportviewer-Disappear.jpg|http://i440.photobucket.com/albums/qq122/ricom_19/Reportviewer-Disappear.jpg]
    Details of adding report to my web app:
    1) Populate my dataset then write the XML schema, reportschema.xml
    2) Added the crystal Report to the project then used the wizard to navigate to the reportschema.xml. Of course i had to create new connection in Database expert. see screen-shot:
    [http://i440.photobucket.com/albums/qq122/ricom_19/CR-Database-Expert.jpg|http://i440.photobucket.com/albums/qq122/ricom_19/CR-Database-Expert.jpg]
    3) I formatted the report the way i wanted it
    4) Added the Crystal report viewer on the Report.aspx page
    5) In the code-behind of the Report.aspx page i bound the viewer to a report document that is loaded with CrystalReport1.rpt file
    see screenshot: [http://i440.photobucket.com/albums/qq122/ricom_19/Report-Page-Code-behind.jpg]
    That's it.  As mentioned, it tested fine in VS2010 but the viewer doesn't show when i publish to the webserver. I wrote a crystal report in .net about 8 years ago. Things have changed soooo much since then.
    I am wondering if its a license issue? Was also wondering if it had anything to do the testing hiccup, even though research is suggestion the two are unrelated.
    I've described my actions as best as i could (without getting into ridiculous detail) and have included screen-shots of relevant stages of the process. Have a look and tell me your thoughts. Thanks.

    The "Sys.Application is null or not an object" issue is known, submitted for a resolution and documented in KB #1528503. Unfortunately the KB search has been down the last couple of days...
    However, the issue is limited to compile time and does not affect a completed application.
    Re. the viewer missing. Sounds like the viewer directory did not get created or configure correctly. Before I get to that. You mention:
    "I proceeded to try to browse to my app from another computer on my network."
    This bring up the question: If you run the app right on the app server. e.g.; not a client computer, does the viewer and report come up? Is this issue isolated to client computers on the network?
    I suspect that the issue exists irrespective of which computer you try to see the report from - but that is an assumption. If the assumption is correct, see [this|https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/50aa68c0-82dd-2b10-42bf-e5502b45cd3a] article on configuring the viewer. The article does not have CR4VS2010 documented, but you should be able to guide your self using the article. I think the pattern will be obvious.
